Hey XDA,
I want to flash a custom rom on my GS2 but first I want to format my micro-sd card and when I go into storage settings the Format option is grayed out.
What can I do? I can't format it on my laptop because I don't have a micro to SD converter
Thanks!
You need to Unmount it before you can format it, click the button above format SD card.

Under settings, SD card & phone storage, unmount SD card, then select format SD card.
Anyone know how to wipe the Sd card? The reason is that over time, many apps created many folders on my sd card and i want to start fresh for 2.1. So yea...
Put it in a card reader and format it, or mount it and format it.
Hello...
i go to Settings -> Storage... and i unmount de sd card.
Then it activates the option to delete sd card. It isnt any option called format SD or something like that.
I have backup all my files to my pc hard drive ( cut & paste). So my sd card is empty. To delete the sd card ( 8 gb capacity) it takes 2-3 seconds.
Its that ok ?
Would you recommend me to format the sd card ? If so how ?
Thanks in advance
It's ok to format your card. Try to put it into an adapter an connect that to your pc, and format it from Windows (FAT32 is ok).
After that it should function as new....!
Good luck, greetz,

connect your phone with the usb to the computer. Mount the SD card and after that you should see your SD drive in the computer (under my computer). Right click on the icon of the SD drive and then click format and click quick format.
Thanks... but you are telling me how to format the sd card in the pc... thats right...
My first doubt was if i had already formatted the sd card or if its a bug or a translation mistake in ginger bread.
When i unmount the sd card it lit the option "Borrar tarjeta almacenamiento" ( Delete sd card in english), and it doesnt appear any "Formatear tarjeta" ( format sd card in english).
Everybody has the same ? Or do you have the two options to delete and format the sd card ?
Thanks again.
There is only one option. That is to format the SD Card. I think its a translation mistake. Make a backup of your SD Card and then use the delete/format option.

Use GParted and an external card reader to format it, you won't have any problem...
My phone is asking me to format my sd card out of the blue. I have a 32gb Kingtson, I have a lot of crucial data. I have not yet formatted the sd card. I've tried conventional ways of getting my data like using GETDATABACK FAT32 but it did not work. I have used other but no to avail.
Does anyone know what is the best method to recover files from a sd card that was working but now it is not?
Go to settings>storage and unmount microsd. Remove the microsd feom ur phone. Use a microSD card adapter ... a full size sd card that u can put ur microsd card into and will fit into your pc. Click and drag important data from microsd onto desktop. Then fat32 format the microsd and reload the data onto it. Done.
Or u can upload all data to dropbox and then format amnd reinstall... but it may take a while.
