[Q] Rooting issue! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I have had my phone for a few weeks now and I'd like to ask about a little problem I have been experiencing. So, I just rooted my device this morning and flashed the new ICS ROM. Though, I realised that I prefer MIUI. So, when I loaded recovery to flash my new MIUI ROM, I was greeted by a blue 'CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7'
I don't understand this because when I rooted this morning the recovery I had was a different version and it was orange.
What I need to know is the steps I need to take to flash a new ROM from scratch. Do I need to go back to the original ROM, then re-root? Do I need to re-root at all even?
I guess I'm still kind of a noob, so any help would be appreciated and I will click that 'thanks' button for anyone who gives a good answer.
Thanks in advance, Joe.

CWM and root are not directly related.
CWM comes with the kernel.
Root is part of the rom.
Miui will be rooted when you flash it.
You do not need to be rooted to flash roms via CWM recovery.

[Q] Is it necessary to flash custom recovery if using stock rom

Hi,
I'm running already Android 2.2.2 update 10E and I'm going to root my phone.
I want to use the same stock ROM.
Is it necessary that I need to flash custom recovery.
Please help & sorry for NooB question.
If you only want to root your phone there's no need to install custom recovery.

[Q] [HELP] Official LG Updater over ClockWorkMod Recovery

I have an LG Optimus One running 2.2.2 latest firmware V10e. Recently, I rooted my device and installed ClockWorkMod Recovery and the Lagfix+OC Kernel by der_caverman. I am using the Stock ROM with that Kernel.
My question is when the official Gingerbread Update comes out by LG, will I be able to update it with the official LG software updater or will it not work because I have ClockWorkMod Recovery installed.
If not, how can I remove ClockWorkMod Recovery get my original Recovery Back???
any help would be appreciated!
I already asked the same question

If the phone is just 'rooted' and no custom ROM, would one need to follow the above steps before upgrading? Thanks

nope. you can upgrade at any time if u are staying with ur oem rom even if u are rooted. only thing is that u will lose ur root previllage after the update.
its alwayes advisable to have a custom recovery and custom rom. cause it can take nandroid backups(will save your day if anything goes wrong)

it is risky since you have changed the frame work.if i were you i will do the following.
1)unroot the phone( if u have used gingerbreak use the same to unroot)
2)down load the original recovery from http://www.megaupload.com/?f=XGKNWZQJ and flash. thus u can getrid of amonra and get back original p500 recovery
3)reboot and hard reset and upgrade.
4) since u are now on original recovery and in unrooted condition if any thing goes wrong u can claim warrenty.
let me ask u why u need an upgrade? to get lot of crapwares? or to get amere 600mhz kernal? or to get a laggy phone with mere 60 mb of internal storage space to install all ur apps? or to have adds on every apps?
go for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
its stable,beautiful,oced and updated gingerbread.
Thanks for your answer!
And I understand you when you ask me why do I need official update, because I agree that official rom = creap And thats why the first thing that I have done when I rooted my phone was to uninstall all the bloatware from it
I will for sure flash miks rom when he base it on official gingerbread, and if I have a little time for weekend current mod that you recommended (I only hesitate because of the bugs - I know there are just a couple of them, but...). I tried yesterday francos kernel v151, but I'm experiencing color bending in lower half of a screen with it...

ya its up to you to decide...and i agree with u absolutly.but i aint had any problems with mik's 6.5.2(not using francos ker cause some error with cpu freq settings, u have to use setcpu).
Just one more question - when you said:
2)down load the original recovery from http://www.megaupload.com/?f=XGKNWZQJ and flash.

yes its a flashable unsigned zip.but if u r using amonra to flash( cause it is unsigned) u have to uncheck the option "toggle signature verify" first.Amonra wont allow u to flash unsigned zips unless u do the above.
ps:if original recovery is flashed u will lose all the options in amonra and the only option will be the hard reset option.
there is a good how to section if u wish...

Show me please.
Thanks every one very much.....

Where Download?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I need to install only a recovery, because a custom rom brings ROOT. I'll use ODIN, where I can find recoverys in tar format, because the one I have, is the site of ClockworkMod and is in zip.
Thanks to all.

why do you need a recovery if you are not going to install custom roms. You already have the stock recovery to whatever you are going to do

Lol, you must know that CWM is integrated into the kernel, so if you need CWM you must install a custom kernel(insecure kernel) having CWM, and all custom kernels are made to enable rooting, trying to push CWM into stock kernel(secure kernel) is pretty dangerous and you might brick your phone, and stock has its on recovery mode which you can use. Anyway before performing any wipe or factory reset check whether if you have super brick bug if you are running ICS 4.0.4, and stupid question or not try including more details about your phone.

I thank people who write helpful posts, so i expect the same.

I want to install a CUSTOM ROM, like cyanogem, slim bean, etc. So your idea is install a kernel, but I can install recovery and then custom rom, right?
And this insecure kernel, can you give me the link to download?
Thanks.
P.S. - My SII have Gingerbread 2.3.5. original, I don't have touch in nothing.

Help needed correct recovery !!

Hi all, ok ive rooted my GS3 and its running 4.1.2 , but my question is that im not sure its going into proper recovery mode as when i put it into recovery it doesnt look like the usual recovery screen !! ie im trying to install the Audio hack zip and flash it but it keeps failing everytime i try, can somebody please help me, also is it because it needs a diferent rom like Omega or something, hope to get some help soon, from
Brian
You need to install Custom Recovery first... (CWM or any other)
Rooting only doesn't include CWM...
Use Odin to flash it.
thankyou
Hi and thankyou for that, so when you say i have to install flash a custom recovery, do you mean i have to install a new rom like omega or something ? and yes i do have Odin.

Just go to original development and you will find a choice of 2 or 3, you can flash them in Odin/cwm/mobile Odin depending on their format so read instructions

i9100 Rooted but no CWM

Hello everyone, greeting from Turkey!
First of all im a newbie for android rooting and romming etc. I ve always used stock roms since ive got this phone. Now Im running a I9100 (int.) with stock Turkish 4.1.2 (XXLS8) on it and i ve rooted it via superuser.zip with my stock recovery.
What i want to do is to install CWM and want to flash a RELIABLE and Long Battery life rom. Are there anyways for me to install a CWM without using odin (via stock recovery). And can you please suggest me a good rom for daily usage. (i want to use vanilla android btw [just like nexus]).
Thank you for your helps.
I don't know much about roms/kernels for the international version, but you will need to flash a stock kernel with cwm and then just choose a rom from your development thread and follow the instructions, don't forget making backups and reading a lot, you can start from flashing cyanogenmod.

As i said i dont know about international version kernels, but it should have a tag like "stock kernel" or something like that if its for stock, just install it and you will have cwm, if its not stock it wont be installed anyway.
