Looking for a ICS Boot Animation that is Vertical - TouchPad General

I am currently running CM9 and the I would like to flash a ICS Boot animation that fits the entire screen vertically instead of landscape. Does anyone have a link to one? Thank you.

I like the plain old android boot one. And it's horizontal.

Check this link out, I posted this a long time ago, I think this is what you're looking for, if you still are
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392843

I will try it out when I get home. Thank you so much. =]

Thank you for your quick response, but it doesn't fill the whole screen like I had hoped, I noticed Evervolv ICS's has a boot animation that fills the whole screen but I am not sure where I could find his boot animation.
Edit: Looking at yours and the one in Evervolv they appear the same for some reason using it on CM9 doesn't render it full screen like it's suppose to. Kinda upsetting but oh well. Thank you.
Looking at yours the and the one in Evervolv and CM9, yours and Evervolv are at 30 FPS the CM9 is at "720 1280 24p 0 0 part0"

I haven't really tried to customize my TP on CM9 yet, I figured it's a very early alpha build and I don't wanna do what I did with CM7 (fresh install every time then install and customize everything all over again) lol but I'll try the bootanimation and I'll let you know if I figure anything out

Bootanimation - Bios boot
Hi...
It might not be what you are looking for but this one is the bootanimation I am using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055789
I have it on my DS7 and started using it on my TP as well. ^_^

Well I changed the desc file from "768 1024 30p 0 0 part0" to "1024 768 30p 0 0 part0" but it doesn't look nice but it does fill up the whole screen.

I think we need to rotate it. It's not in the right orientation.

Just open the rom with a archive app and extract the animation zip and copy it to your system/media folder

That sounds correct, how would I go about changing the orientation? It looks like the boot animation is made up of a bunch of pictures moving at 30 fps.

Actually I tried rotating all the pic and that totally kill the animation. Will that be something to do with the two "0" in the txt file? But I saw some other ROM with vertical boot screen has that two "0" unchanged. I guess that's something to do with the kernal

The naming of the files shouldn't be changed, that would probably crash the whole thing or maybe even cause a boot loop. I also tried rotating the images but that didn't work, and my guess is because of the image sizes, they increase significantly. I'm not a developer in any way but I'm thinking the issue is with how ICS reads the orientation of the animation vs GB (or maybe CM9 vs CM7), because the same exact bootanimation plays vertically on CM7 builds but horizontally on CM9!!!

so the reason, or at least one of the reasons, why the boot animation is oriented the way it is in CM9 is because "ro.sf.hwrotation=270" has been disabled in build.prop and I'm sure they had a good reason to do so because if you try to enable it (which I did) the boot animation will be vertical but nothing else will work lol as in the touchscreen won't work which renders the TP useless. So the best solution (if you're not a dev, just like me) is to wait for our hard working devs to fix this issue.

thanks a lot zentronic. i actually followed your video tutorial on how to make boot animations and i was able to get one working. not the one that i want but a trial one. not very difficult at all. the problems i was having was actually getting a decent video of mario getting the 5up. i downloaded an emulator and ran through 3 levels while recording my screen. i am able to watch the video just fine in wmp or other video players but when i try to import the video into a video editor it doesnt want to show up. the screen is mostly black in the video and not usable at all. very perplexing to me and i have no idea how to remedy the situation.
the only other way that i thought of to get decent video of mario is to have the right card in your computer to plug a game system directly into it and capture that video. i currently dont have that option so i figured it would just be easier to ask.
i figured it would be much easier to capture that video and edit it than to try to create that video from scratch. i want it to look like it came from an actual NES. i love that 8-bit look, dont want it to be too cartoony or anything.
i do have a capture card lying around somewhere that i will try to find and install into my computer so i can mess with this or at least have ready for the future.
EDIT
ok found my capture card and will be installing it in just a few min. i know i can edit videos captured this way without problems (ive done it before) so hopefully i will be able to start on this animation today.
I would like to ask in advance if i can use this in my Mario theme?

i am making progress on my version of this. im not sure if zentronic is still planning on taking a stab at it or not. when i get mine done i would have no problem with anyone using it. zentronic seems pretty cool so i doubt he would mind either but better safe than sorry. since this is my first real boot animation it will take some time but i will work on it every chance i get...i think i want this more than anyone else. i have a video now and im in the process of editing. im not a video editor by any means so there is probably an easier way but i dont know about it so i need to take baby steps to make sure i dont screw up. please have patience with me.

hey be patient, took me about a good month to comprehend everything in regards to themeing and theres still alot that i dont know.. patience is key and thanks in advance... =)
ill probably continually post in here to keep anyone interested up to date on my progress. im done working on it for tonight but i think i made a ton of progress today. i was thinking about possibly changing the "5UP" text to something else. maybe "booting" or something like that. id love suggestions as to what you all think could go in its place. i will make sure it looks good though so im thinking a longer phase might be a bit of an eye sore. who knows though. any suggestions will be considered and most likely tested.
huge progress today. the video editing is going much smoother than i though it would (adobe after effects is a pretty sweet program) i should only have 2-2.5 seconds of video left to edit. i over looked that part when i was first doing all my photoshop work. so i need to go back into photoshop which will probably be the longer of the two operations. its very possible that i will get the video editing done today, just taking a break. im sure i will get back to it later. off work for two days so it should be done, at the latest, by thursday evening. now i just hope i dont run into any unforseen roadblocks. i will also post a youtube video so you guys can preview...i love when previews are included.
Keep at it!

True orientation Lock (portrait and landscape)

Since I enjoy using the phone in portrait when laying down, I finally found an app that would work. I know there are ROMS that can set the default to portrait, but I also wanted to lock landscape as well (similar to the iphone)
Unfortunately it's $1.49 in the market, but I haven't found any free app that works (most were just widgets that turn auto-rotate on and off)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.coinsoft.android.orientcontrol
It does work, but be aware that (at least for me with ADW Launcher) when/if one uninstalls the app, the default orientation gets locked to whatever it was last set and will not return to auto.
YMMV.
I'm using it now. It's not bad. Has some flexible configuration options. Thanks for the tip.
I've been looking for something like this. Thanks a mil
Ok just to be sure, this software locks the orientation in Portrait for any applications? Or is it just for the launcher?

It's a paid app
That would be stealing
It would violate XDA rules.
hmmm now that true portrait mode is available, maybe there would be some new apps that would follow its method of changing orientation and would be free.
Is there any way to change the boot and/or lock screen default orientation without flashing a custom ROM?

You don't need to flash an entire ROM, there is a thread with the mod here at XDA.
The only other lockscreen option is a replacement lockscreen that allows/forces portrait.
For booting, the initial Dell logo is pretty much hard coded in, but you can use a different boot animation that is portrait. I made one with pics of my grand kids.

Even though I have root, I still need to flash a custom recovery to do this however, correct?
I just prefer the plain jane lockscreen in portrait. I tried all the paid and free options, and for me at least, they sucked.

If you want to flash any kind of .zip file for a theme or boot animations you need a custom recovery. But, you can change the boot animation without using recovery by placing the alternate boot animation in /data/local. If there is a bootanimation.zip file in this directory it over rides the stock boot animation. So you only need a file explorer with root access to do this.
I believe that you do not need a custom recovery to do the portrait lock hack, but I have not done it.
If you don't have StreakMod Recovery installed how are you backing up your phone? I use nandroid to make a backup every couple of weeks at least. You can prevent StreakMod from being over written.

I'm rooted and I'm using Titanium Backup, but I'm still on s Stock Froyo ROM. I'm taking my time and reading as much as I can before I jump into flashing on my Streak, because even though I came from the HD2 and the Vibrant (and flashed those dozens of times) I'm always a little hesitant when I'm trying a new method and I can't afford to brick, maybe more than most, because I can't get ANY decent phones here in Panama.
One provider sells the 8GB Galaxy S for $800!
Thanks for the info. I'd love to have the PIN screen default to portrait also. Does the above mentioned hack accomplish this as well?
I actually had to change my PIN because I couldn't reach "0" when I changed my screen dpi to 180, which I much prefer over the standard, since it was then blocked/obscured by the Emergency Call button.

[Bootanimation]--HACKERS the movie -- crash override bootup screen

I just put together a hackers boot animation based on crash overrides bootup screen from the movie hackers
I made it for my Rogers evo 3d so the zip is Rogers_bootanimation.zip
to use it in a custom rom just rename it Bootanimation.zip
I love this boot up and plan to add more animations to it.
UPDATE: Aug 31. now it loops infinitely

Is kool but you should make it so that it loops. After the initial boot it just stays static.

I lived this movie when I was younger. Not realistic at all. But I understood you can't show real hacking because it would be boring for movie goers.

Actually, some of the stuff they did in that movie was possible only a few years prior.

[Q] How to speed up the CRT Screen off animation on CM7

Hi,
I noticed an annoying thing about CM7. The screen off animation is noticeably slower than that on Stock 2.3.4 and other Blur based ROMs.
Does anyone know how to speed it up?
+1 I would also like to know lol
Havent found a setting for it. I took this as in this is what it is supposed to look like. I assumed the stock blur based made it choppy and thus made it appear to disappear quicker.
Never thought about it much, shutting it off and putting it away is what I'm doing.
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App
I noticed that it was slower right away. But it didn't bother me at all.

sense ROMs play bootanims faster than aosp ROMs. You can change this by adjusting the fps in one of the xmls but I can't remember which.

not in the xml(that i've ever seen, but i dont know everything, lol)but in the desc that comes with the bootanimation(if you unzip the animation(Sprint_bootanimation.zip not the flashable one if there is one) make sure when you zip it back up that you do so with zero compression
