I currently have the android wifi-tether v 3.1 beta 7 in my RAZR. I am happy with it but there are times when my phone will just freeze up and would not let me turn off the wifi tether resulting of me rebooting phone. Will there be an advantage to update to the latest, which is 3.1 beta 11? What are the advantage, if any? I ask this because I could not get the info from the website itself.
I am using Beta 10 and haven't had any of those issues.
Im running Beta 9 and it works fine as well
So is it pretty easy to set up free wifi tethering on the Razr once you've rooted the phone? Probably getting it today and just wanted to make sure I'd be able to make that happen.
Something in the 'unlock bootloader' petition thread seemed to indicate that we couldn't do free wifi tethering without having the bootloader unlocked, which didn't seem right.

I am new at this. I got my thunderbolt a month ago and it already has the new firmware. So, was wondering from tomorrow onwards, can this phone be rooted to get free wifi/hotspot (plus the new firmware) or I have to pay $20 per month
as I will be on a road trip for like 15 days and need this to work properly.
any suggestions from gurus here would be great.
If you have the where with all to root it, the Synergy rom has the unlocked hotspot. Do not know about other roms because I am new to the Tbolt. I am coming from an Evo.
Yes all roms have the hotspot feature and you can get them after root. I use the hotspot feature on CM7 and its working great.
Oh so you guys are using the integrated hotspot feature and not the downloadable app from the market?
Since I can't post in the dev forum yet: I still have a TB with the day1 rom/radio/everything, and I refused all the updates so far. Are the instructions in the root thread still applicable to me?

you'll need root to get free wireless tethering. If your ROM doesn't have it built in, there's always barnacle...
After seeing the above replies, does anyone know if the Das Bamf 3.0 RC4 has a built in mobile hotspot like mentioned in the synergy rom? Or do we have to use Wireless tether for root users/barnacle?

Wireless tether
sent from my BAMF'n thunderbolt.
Wireless tether works great on my rooted T-Bolt. I had stock rom Froyo until last night, now I have Gingerbread 2.3.4 and wifi tether is working great still. You can even download it from the market as long as you do it via wifi and turn off your radio.
Which version are you using and what settings are you using? Did you set it to a specific device profile?
I tried 2.07 and it connects, but dies after about 2 or 3 minutes.
I tried the 3.1beta and cannot get that to connect at all.
Any assistance you could provide is greatly appreciated.
try Inj3ctTh3ory rom wireless tether is cooked in the rom
Hello everyone!
I have my gtablet running the latest installment of Vegan and I love it. I'm always trying to make improvements on it somehow, and now I'm trying to tether it to my droid 2 so I can "borrow" its 3g. I've looked in the the Barnacle method, wireless tether for root users, and pdanet tablet. None of those really worked for me. I wish pdanet tablet was more stable otherwise it would be the perfect solution. Has anyone found out a stable tethering solution?
My tablet has the latest Vegan-Tab, and my D2 has gb 2.3 rooted on it, if that helps. Thanks!

I'm running VEGAn 5.1.1 on one of my gTabs and I don't have any problems tethering using either of my rooted Motorola phones (Droid X on Verizon and Atrix on AT&T) phones using Barnacle. I do have some intermittent connectivity issues with the lated released Wireless Tether for Root Users but after I started to use the unreleased version 3 beta it doesn't have that problem anymore.
On the other gTab I'm running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 and it doesn't have connectivity issues either.
Barnacle seems to want to work, but the gtablet keeps saying that its obtaining the ip adress and then itll eventually give up. also, the 3g signal indicator turns from blue to black. im not quite sure what that means.
I know it is possible to tether android tablet to an android phone via bluetooth so the tablet can use phone internet. Is it possible to do the same with two android phones? I know it's doable over wi-fi, but bluetooth uses less battery.
in this specific case two phones in question are thunderbold and incredible. thunderbolt is rooted, incredible is not but I can root it if needed to make this work.
thank you

Finally I installed ICS on my incredible and paired both phones but still can't tether. any ideas?
I still need help with this.
I rooted my incredible, flashed ICS ROM and installed wifi tether 2.7, there is a bluetooth tether option there.
my thunderbolt has BAMF SoaB and bluetooth tether is greyed out in wifi tether app.
according to my research, it's a kernel issue, I need kernel that has "CONFIG_BT_BNEP". I tried flashing several different kernels with no success.
if anybody is successfully running bluetooth tether on their thunderbolt, please let me know which kernel you have installed.
thank you
on galaxy ace doesn't work :-??
This would be very nice if anyone could get this working.
I've had my Moto Xoom paired and using my phones internet via bluetooth many times, but I think it would be convenient to share by Droid 4's internet with my old D2 as well.
Has anyone had any luck with this besides using a WiFi hot spot and draining your battery in a couple hours?
Running cm 10.2 and I can't seem to get WiFi tether to work..running the 3.3. The built in cm hotspot seems to work..devices connect but get no internet

wifi
Ya i ran to this issue for the last year. Some peoples phones work with the native wifi mine never has. I have tried the trevemod, wifi was less then 2mb. Then i found the 3.2 and 3.3 versions of tether. It takes a lot of tweaking to finally to get it to work but they do work. Problem i always had is if i used my phone as it was going sometimes it would turn it off. And after an hour the data would be less. So i would have to reboot phone then i would get over 20mb again.
So not sure if it works on 10.2 but i came a crossed a thread in the OMni 4.4.2 Rom posed by SIlentstyder. found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495109&page=24
He came a crossed it for use with the NExus 5 via sprint. There are step by step screen shots how to do it. I gave it a shot and it worked like a charm. I have full 30Mb LTE + utilizing the native tether. It worked on the OmniRom. Then i went back to see if worked on DirtyUnicorns 4.4.2 and it worked there as well. Havent tried it on the sense roms but would assume it works there as well.
Only issue i had found is with dirtyunicorns rom, which i like the best out of the kit kat roms, is the internet works fine. i can connect any device but i cannot open my work email on any device connected to it. as well as that vpn doesnt work. So i went back to OmniRom and i can do this no problem. So not sure what thats about. I havent seen any post that have that same issue. So hopefully there will be an update soon and i can try it again.
Give it a shot, just make sure to save a copy of the settings.db if it doesnt work.

My Stock DNA is starting to prompt me to upgrade...surprised it took this long.
Anyhow, I use (depend on) FoxFi to tether over wifi, as I understand it, this doesn't work on KitKat yet (despite a recent breakthrough for samsung phones). I'm open to ROMs, already s-off, rooted, unlocked, so I need to know...
Which ROMs can Wifi Hotspot with or without the app? I still have unlimited data, if this is relevant information. Which one has the best following, and is most daily-driver ready? I used to enjoy fussing over my phone a lot more, but not as much since android and hardware got that much better. Thanks for any input!

Viper DNA 4.0 is daily driver ready and the native wifi Hotspot is modified to work and it will not prompt you to upgrade your plan.
