Anyone else getting lag while using Netflix on the SGP5? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Has anyone else experienced a decent bit of lag while watching shows over netflix? It's not connection based since my line is 150mbps, and clocking it to 1.2GHz from stock didn't change anything either.

Could just be Netflix itself lagging, or a problem with your service provider. Just because they claim 150 Mbps doesn't mean you'll always get it.
On my device, Netflix usually bounces between 800 MHz and 1 GHz (Netflix apparently does not support hardware decoding... )

Yes, I had the same problem - Netflix audio slightly out of sync. I tested on other devices and determined it was NOT the video source or data stream (no sync problem with other devices viewing same videos using same Internet stream at same time). I installed Tegrak overclock and pumped clock speed up one step (1.1 from 1.0). That solved the Netflix sync problem and hasn't had any negative effect I could detect on my SGP5. I set Negrak to add that slight overclock at boot. So far so good.

I used chainfire on it (4xmsaa)and it has a lot less lag.

Can't think how how that would do anything lol, but I'll try that!

as soon as The video starts I pause it for about 30-90 seconds,
then the video plays fine for about 20mins...
It might be a problem with buffering
if we could take the app apart maybe we could increase the buffer size?

Interactive governor

On my P500 original ROM + custom kernel caveman , the interactive governor seems to work very choppy in video playback .
How does it flow for you guys in video playback and what ROMs do you use?
Works fine for me. What's the video's resolution, bitrate, and codecs used?
uhhh I think all videos at 640X272 , 632X372 ( some tv shows I watch ) they run very bad . What I tested so far was avi , xvid . At around 1200 bit rate
What player do you use and have any of you found a player that can actually run a video with a rez above 640X480?
At 800mhz speed ( oc'ed the cpu ) and adreno 200 should be able to handle at least D1 rez or even 720p .
I've read a lot about the O1 falling short of the VGA resolution. Anyway, I get choppy playback with a video that's even less than VGA, but it doesn't bother me that much. For that video I used RockPlayer since every other video playing app I used choked the file out. So yeah, try rockplayer
I did try Rockplayer and that one works just horrible with almost every video . Now problem is if you have the full version . I only tried the lite version.
I'm out of ideas xD I'm actually waiting for the guys behind VLC to release a port. I've read somewhere that they'll be releasing an Android version soon
Still the problem pointed out in this thread remains unchallenged . How does the interactive governor work for you people and to those who have good performance overall with ( a bit better battery life ) snappier actions and decent video play , what ROM's do they use .
I'm interested to know because I think interactiv G. doesn't really work that well with stock ROM/.

I can only second your observations. Im on stock rom with the oc/touchscreenfix kernel at 748 MHz. With the stock player and interactive governor vids are choppy but they play fine if it is set to the on demand governor. I even had vids aborting with an error message i cant recall right now.
Exactly excor. That's why I want to know on which ROM , interactive actually fully works. Not being able to play videos is a big fault for me .
Also you should consider downloading from the market Mplayer . It plays videos very well and also adds a lot more functionality like Zoom to fit screen which we all know that most videos are ratio 16:9 and phone screen ratio is 4:3.
Got distracted by the video part. I'll be testing interactive governor now. Give me a day By the way, I'm on Light ROM(basically stock minus the garbage) and Der_Caveman's v3 kernel.
Update: Interactive governor scaling performs the short bench a few milliseconds faster than ondemand, and yes, I tested it a few times and not just once.
However, SetCPU has this little problem with reverting back to my default frequency settings when a profile has been activated. For example, my default setting is 768MHz max, and I turn the screen off(goes down to 320MHz, my setting). When I turn my screen on and check SetCPU, the max frequency setting stays at the one in the profile, and I have to re-set the frequency to set it.
Reverted back to on-demand
I tested today Youtube and I have to say this device has some serious issues in video playback . I guess it's either that ARMv6 is very limited in some categories or optimisations for it just suck balls .
HQ format on youtube worked horrible and after some time running it , it would give out an error : Cannot play format ( something like that ) . 800 mhz speed should be able to eat videos alive .
I've no problems with HQ Youtube Even a video that's near VGA resolution plays fine.
How about primev2? Do you think it has better video playback?
im waiting for coreplayer android release ;p
i dont know why but interactive hurts when scrolling on a page, switching through the main menu....i tried like all the ROMs here and m content with megatron and mik_os's kernel and set cpu set 600-245 conservative..plus i have a control over background apps using autostarts, watchdog lite etc...so even with conservative scheduling phone's snappy enough and video playback is smooth with nearly VGA resolutions

My phone plays HQ youtube videos really smooth and perfect. No lags, no errors no problem. And im not even OCd. I think the problem is in your software not because it only has armv6.
When i was on stock rom. Im using mvid payer. It works really good and smooth near vga res. (1gig for more than 1 hour)
. Never tried any videos res higher than that

This happens to me too. It occurs when one switches too fast between apps/videos while using the youtube application or long uptimes. The only fix so far is to reboot the system, then it's back to normal. If anybody has experienced this, I would like to know too.
ok what roms do you guys use? Currently I use LOL rom 1.2

I don't think so. By the way, try disabling HW Accelleration and stagefright. Also, check if SetCPU is properly restoring it's frequency settings when you come out of a screen lock. Interactive governor works fine for me(but for me ondemand is more responsive).

[Q] Music skipping Xperia Neo

Not an unusual problem by the looks of it but sooooo annoying and soooo many options to try and fix the problem.
(edit - just to clarify, its more of a skidding than a skipping - the sound/rhythm is stretched and short of shudders like when a CPU is under-load with other apps running, but I've currently got over 100MB at idle.)
I've read the following forum which has so many options in it and a lot of good info so I'm going to slowly work through a few of the options with my Xperia and see what might solve the skipping issue.
http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/72913-music-player-skipping-cause.html
I initially started using the stock player that came with the Neo and noticed it skipping every now and then but then yesterday when coming home from a music festival with a few new albums it came to time to STOP the skipping.
I always copy files from original CD's at the highest quality and then drag and drop them directly into the folder on the SD card to cut out any other application adding its musical interpretation into the tracks with missed data and timing etc (this is a practice I started years ago so hopefully the tracks are the best they can be)
So from here I start fiddling with the device......
1) I noticed that I dont get any skipping when using ES File Explorer to play the files but the problem ES File explorer is that it doesn't appear to have a shortcut directly to its media player and I dont want to have to go hunting for files EVERY time I want to play music.
2) So now I've started Meridian just as a test and it definately made an improvement = less skipping but still some
3) So I"ve moved Meridian to System App as suggested in the Forum and I'm running the player and keeping a close ear on it to see if it skips.
If it does the next step will be to start using "AnTuTu CPU Master Free" and setting it to start from boot and set it to raise the minimum processor level to around 400 MHz
If anybody who actually knows about this stuff has any ideas I'd be interested in hearing them.
I dont know why EX file explorer plays the files better than anything else I've tried - I have made it a system (ages ago) but I would also like to know what it uses for media playing? is it using its own complete of settings or whatevers? or is it piggy backing off the standard player? If I uninstall the standard player will ES still work?
If ES is using its own settings - how does it take control of things so well that the skipping stops?
What other media players take majority of control and ----------dam it just skipped, so I'm rewinding to see if its the track.............nope---------(ok onto the next plan and increasing processor idle speed.
4) Increased Idle speed to as close to 400 as I can and 3 min later - still skipping! c##p
Now what? I'm going to go away and think about this some more - if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
I'm trying to replicate your fault but so far its been playing pretty well, Havn't noticed any skipping, stutters or whatever for the last hour or so.. I did notice a slight jitter when I first started up the music player (Stock) but that was just on startup.. now its rock solid.
you might have some service/App running in the background thats causing some CPU strain or memory hogging momentarily.. I would suggest checking your logcat either with adb terminal or an app that can show you your logcat. check this to see if your getting any low memory warnings or any other errors.
I'll start up a bunch of services and apps and see if I can get my music to skip, Ill also search my music collection for the highest bitrate files I can find (might be that I just use lower bitrate MP3's and so they don't strain the RAM and CPU as much as your high bitrate ones)
I'll let you know if I can get my music skipping like yours.

I've experienced this before, turns out it was the SD Speed Increase app settings that was causing the trouble. Apparently, if I change the setting to anything other than the stock (128 [bytes allocation unit?]), my music would randomly stutter/skid. Left it to stock and never installed it again. I hope this helps.
I've had it too, using UberMusic and CPU Tuner. The problem is not the minimum cpu speed, because the cpu will be running full speed when the screen is on (or more than the minumum). With the screen off profile, my cpu is running at 122MHz, and still no stuttering.
I think the problem is caused by low RAM. Uninstall any unneccesary app and try if the problem persists when you're not multitasking.
I've experienced the same problem a few times using stock music player.. but recently I downloaded google music and never experienced it again... you might want to try this app since it's made by google and ui design is awesome!(ics like)
I've been listening to music for 3 straight hours now, I've managed to get it to stutter twice, once opening a news app (CPU strain while updating web pages?) and once when I opened a file explorer (I repeated that action several times since and couldn't get it to repeat the fault) logcat on both occasions mentioned an error: DMAMISSED 32 for the audio driver. In computer terms DMA means "direct memory access" or the newer version Ultra DMA. this is a little chip that accesses external memory (firstly directed by the CPU but then it frees the CPU up to do other stuff while its reading away, kinda like having a second cpu just for reading your music, but it still needs to get commands from the CPU) and I'm guessing that the missed 32 error is the DMA not getting the message from the CPU in time, perhaps the CPU is busy with something else? or whatever, I'm going to suggest running lower bitrate mp3's and see if it still stutters as much (if at all) try ripping a cd at or under 192kbps stereo or even 128kbps.. What bitrate are you running now? 320kbps? Or variable bitrate? Still not sure if its the problem but would help to eliminate it.
DMA Errors could also be caused by an SD card fault.. might be worth trying another card and seeing if it stutters.

I wouldn't have a clue about this bit-rate thing your talking about - how do I check this?
I've also stopped using the CPU minimum speed thing because I think it caused my phone to totally crash and not display any menu's at all - so had to re-install from clockwork mod boot.
When I'm listening to music I'm not ever doing anything in the background with the phone - it just sits on the table or on the seat of the car - this is when it skips.

Situation summary..............
1) Minimum processor speed app removed due to possible fatal error and notes above suggesting no difference (which is what I thought also).
2) SD speed increase app removed
3) Still running Meridian player due to user friendliness and less skidding - (might go back to stock app to help create more skidding so I can isolate the problem.
4) Track bit-rates might be too high - I will try this as a last resort once I've tried the other options.
5) Try another SD card - hmmm maybe I'll try this another day when I've got some spare cash
In my case, the track bit rates aren't a problem since I often have 320kbps and variable bit rate mp3 files being played in the stock music player and I experience no jitter/skidding.
Ok -
* Instant skidding using Stock Media player with "SD speed increase" app uninstalled.

Now I'm going to re-rip the CD I'm listening to at a lower rate and see how that goes.
----right I've done that and also realized that when I put the original music files on my phone I hadn't converted them from WAV to MP3 so they were huge files. I've now re-ripped the cd in WAV and then converted the files to MP3 so now the files are approx 3 MB instead of 30 MB.
So now I will play them on the stock player and see how they respond.
that has been happening to me ever since i updated to .42 and i didnt know whether it was because i was fiddling with the phone (rooting, installing ics them which .62 reset to SE GRRR ) or whether it was just the amount of music and i had recently added Kasabians new album Velociraptor .. it was really ("was" hehe) especially because i would play it in the car connecting it to a jack lead on my radio .. and it was driving (no pun intended lol) me mad .. but then today i found my mini mp3 dock and though id plug it in and whack a few songs Foo Fighters and the like .. and I swear it didnt jump/skid/skip/slip once .. it was perfect .. and this was all before i updated to .62 about 10mins ago .. hopefully its all ok .. gotta check and make sure its still rooted

Thanks for your input.....are you trying to say that you dont get any skipping when you use the mini mp3 dock rather than the jack lead?
I get skidding both through the lead and through Bluetooth.
Since reducing the size and format of the files I've not had any skidding or skipping.

Youtube app never fully buffers a video

Hello, recently (like android 4.2) youtube has decided to stop buffering videos whenever it feels like it, which means the video just hangs when it gets there with the little buffer wheel spinning. Sometimes it will continue to load the video after it stops, but most of the time it just locks up the whole app and you have to force close it and re-launch it. I have tried clearing app cache and data and what not, but nothing has helped. I even tried turning off wifi optimization, but that didn't help either. I thought that maybe it was my ISP, but the same videos in the browser play just fine with no buffering at all. It seems to do this regardless of the length of the video. I get about 30mbps down and 5.5up when I run speedtest on my tablet, so I don't think it's the connection that's causing the issue. I should also mention that this happens regardless of quality. It will load relatively quickly to a certain point, then just never buffer again. I fear the only way to resolve this issue will be a factory reset.
This Reddit thread solved my YouTube issues. I have fios, fyi.
http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/13kmvd/have_time_warner_internet_but_can_barely_stream/
Edit: oops this apparently.might be a problem with the new YouTube app.

I get this! All started when I upgraded to android 4.3! Its highly annoying, and the only way. I have found to fix it is to kill the YouTube app, find the video and place you where at, and then go from there
I also had this issue before the YouTube app was recently updated

You don't have to force close youtube by the way, simply pressing the home button and going back to youtube afterwards does the job for me as well.
I hope they will fix that issue soon
This sucks so bad! I just got this awesome nexus 10 and I literally cat go 5 seconds without buffer. Do I have a bad unit? How do I fix this? I can surf the web just fine so it isn't my wifi to the nexus 10.

Try an app called "Viral' from the playstore. I started using it as it can play YouTube music videos in the background while I'm using some other app. Recently I've been having issues with the default YouTube app and discovered that Viral did not have those issues. It may be worth giving it a try. I'm using a 4.4 custom ROM linked in my signature so your mileage may vary.
The issue I'm having is YouTube stops half way through a video and simply will not continue playing that video from the stop point, even after a reboot. I can play another video but it too stops half way or so in.
The YouTube app isn't NEARLY as good as it should, I'm still enraged and disgusted about the fact that the YouTube app on iPad is so MUCH better than the Android one, it has gestures to let you toggle full screen , it has pull down to refresh on lists (like the pull down to refresh on the gmail app), if you exit the app and come back, the video you were playing doesn't have to be rebuffered again (it keeps a few seconds buffered so you can watch the video quickly) AND worst of all, the iOS app lets YOU choose the resolution of your stream, what you get isn't an HD "on" and "off" toggle, you get proper choosing, like on the website, you get to choose between 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p AND 1080p, HD on our app is 720p, not 1080p, actually Google disabled the option from all android apps.
After that update I lost a lot of faith in Google, no wonder the iPad has so many more high quality apps, if you want devs to take you seriously, then YOU should give proper support to your devices, 1080p streams should have been available ever since our N10 was released, this **** is just unacceptable.
Thanks @3DSammy for the tip about the Viral app. :highfive:
Well, I figured out the issue, but not a fix. I think it's tied to comcast's router. I set up an old linksys with a broadcomm wireless unit as a repeater and I haven't had a single issue since. Numerous router resets and devices restores did nothing. It doesn't make any sense though because it only happens with the YouTube app, but same settings and everything I was able to watch a video completely on my nexus 10 on the repeater that I could not get through on comcast's router/modem(Aaris unit). It's strange though because my repeater connects wirelessly to my comcast router, so it goes nexus 10 to linksys repeater to comcast's router. It could be a security issue I guess, but I didn't look into it.

Online video playback start freezes

I've lately faced a problem that keeps haunting me on a daily basis.
Whenever I startup a Youtube video from the app, or a Twitch stream or even open a video link with MX Player, I hear the audio normally but the picture is freezed or very low fps for the first 4-10 seconds. This literally happens almost every time when I start watching an online video. Usually when I start the video a few times again or skip to like 0:02 it starts normally. Sometimes this happens when I do a longer skip during the video as well.
It's very annoying and it definitely started happening after the OS updates. My OPX has been working brilliantly otherwise for 5 weeks now and the only customised thing in it is the Google Now launcher I've been using since day 2. My mobile internet is a constant 15/5 mbit 3G plan and this happens on a 10/10 mbit WiFi as well.
Anyone else facing similiar problems?
edit: This seems to happen only when YouTube/Twitch starts the video in HD. When I set YT's quality to 480p or lower and start the next video in that quality, the problems seems to go away. Naturally I expect this phone and this 3G internet to start online videos in HD.
make sure you've updated to oxygen os to V 2.1.3 , if you did, make sure the OPX RAM is not fully loaded by closing recent apps, or check the device storage to make sure it's not almost full, if problem still exist try to wipe cache partition through recovery cuz some phones from different careers comes with same problem in playing music or videos but after wiping cache all goes good, if it didn't work with u so it will be strange thing, i have problems with twitch but not the other apps, hope i helped u.

Video playback problem

After months of researching why video playback fails on my device, it is because it is using cpu rendering not GPU. That also prevents me from playing +240 videos on YouTube. In VLC beta, I can change the playback device to OpenGL 3.0 and video works awesomely. How can I do this system wide?

This is not a real solution, we want to have hardware accelerated playback like on any normal system.
There is another problem too, I've seen few people mentioning it. It probably affects only integrated intel gpus, hardware accelerated vids look like ****, they have extremely low color depth.
This problem doesn't occur under recent Androidx86, so I hope that they'll switch to new kernel as soon as possible.

Works like real shiiit on my pc. We have GPUs and we want to use them. Maybe the kernel update in the next version will fix it? Let's hope so.

everything working very fast system (INCLUDING SLEEP AND WAKE UP but havent tested every sensor etc). Sim card function not working so jide please enable sim card function for calling and internet data. Thank you.
so far with an Antutu score of 124,000 i have tested 1080p 60fps HD video playback which plays smooth and crisp and 3d games like Dead Trigger 2 work perfectly.
by default the remix os is in powersave mode but all cpu cores stay on and high which causes battery drain and cpu heat but with a software called 3 cpu manager the problem can be solved easily by setting the max cpu frequency to 800 Mhz on all cores and you also have the ability to change from powersave to performance mode which is what i used to acheive smooth 1080p 60fps video quality! (without overclocking the system 1080p 60fps footage is not possible and laggy!
please enable HDMI audio and widget capability and please make remix os unrooted and create a method to easily root for users who want root that way you have both audience users!
I think you should post your message to this feedback page so that it reaches the developers
