I'm rooted, but I don't know how to install a ROM. Please help!
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
If you search the forums you will find many guides to this. Best thing is to find the ROM you want and look at their instructions.
Download the BSR (boot strap recovery) and then download which ROM you want. Then install the BSR and go into the app and press Install Recovery, then press Recovery Mode after you plugged your phone into the wall. It will shut down then boot back up into BSR and use the volume rocker on the side if the phone to go down the list until you get to Install zip from SD card and use power button on top to select and then select chose file from SD card and navigate to where you have the ROM you downloaded. Then select it. It will ask are you sure, select yes. Also before you install zip, in the BSR, select wipe data/factory reset and also select wipe cache. Then select reboot system now and there you go! It will boot up to the ROM you just installed!

Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110389
In there, choose a ROM you would like. In each ROM's thread, they give instructions on how to install them. Check the droid X2 development forum for guides and multiple how-tos.
Hope that helps
Yes that's a quick, generalized guide to installing a ROM, but some roms may be different, such as CM7. bfmetcalf said it best though. Find the ROM you want and follow their instructions. Sometimes people post videos on Youtube also.

Download the rooted stock or deodex version, copy to root of ur tab. Open rom manager, select install rom. After that it's pretty much self explanatory.

i assume since it is rooted that you already have clockwork recovery installed.
hold power and vol down to boot into recovery
select wipe cache/factory restore
select install from zip
select the rom i showed you
reboot!
you must put the rom in the root of your tab first
use androzip to move it there

sorry but still a newbie here and i might get annoying to some peeps here but just very cautious on how this would work. so i'm going to ask question
factory restore - does this mean i'm going a clean up and unrooting my device? from the steps above? is the end product going to have the touchwiz update or is this the touchwiz update with a email sync problem? where does the touchwiz update happen? i didn't see that step above?
lastly.. is there a video i watch to see this in action.
galaxytabhacks.com is a bit slow on updating their video's on how to update a rooted GT 10.1 with touchwiz update...
thank you all for the current post and i'm sure that there are many users here that will appreciate this information.. (for all you do please post and cheer on the peeps that helped us out).

ok.. so go to clockwork recovery - i know how with that two options (icons by pressing those buttons)
make a backup - don't know how?
factory reset - i'll read up
install zip from sdcard - done it before
install - if i find it i'll select install
reboot - hopefully
so how does the backup work - any steps.. where can i find that option. thanks again for all these information..
in the main clockword recovery menu select back up and restore ...select backup
these are all in the main menu of cwr... dont worry about the wipe/factory restore just select it and do it.....make sure you put the new rom in the root of your tab first. just like you did with the root.zip when you rooted
put the new rom zip in your tab
boot into cwr
make a back up
do a wipe/factory restore
select install from zip
select choose zip
select the rom zip you downloaded and put in the root of your tab
install
reboot
this is from the first link i gave you
Here is the clockwork mod menu
- Reboot system now (self explanatory )
- Apply update from SDcard. (when you connect your device to your computer it will show up as tablet. The SDcard that cwm refers to is simply your device storage. Always make sure to copy install.zips to the root directory of your tablet storage.) You use this when applying an update for a specific ROM if that is what the ROM developer says.
- Wipe Data/ Factory Reset You should always do this before you install a new ROM or if you are having minor issues with your device.
- Wipe cache partition Think of this as the lite version of whats above . If you do above though it doesn't hurt to do this too.
- Install zip from SDcard Use this to install new ROMs.
- Back up and Restore
- Mounts and Storage use this to connect your device to your computer when in recovery mode. It is also possible to transfer files to your device while in this mode.
- Advanced What you are interested in here is something called dalvik cache, you want to wipe this too before installing any new ROM
- Power off
this is the main menu of clockwork recovery
backupand restore...wipedata/factory reset...install zip reboot are all on this menu

Need some help as well.
My io tab went into that infinity loop so I flash it by fast boot, but then accidentally rooted it? i guess, as I see the superuser icon.
How do I get it back to stock. I have no backup with it at all....and don't know what is happening.
I just want a normal machine that can update to touchwiz officially. thanks
krbernier, thanks for the help!
Alright so I am currently on the most current MIUI with CM7 kernel on my vibrant but I want to replace this rom with simply stock JVT 2.3.5. But when I try flashing it I get a bootloop. I looked it up and apperently I need either the talon or bullet kernal but preferably bullet. So how exactly Do i do this? I won't pretend I know what I'm talking about because I don't :x so please be as precise as you possibly can with the steps. Please, I'm easily confused :x

You have to ODIN back to stock as CM7 & MIUI use a different partitioning than Regular Gingerbread or Froyo.
So..
ODIN back to stock, root, flash custom recovery, flash rom, bam.
Plus if needed here is a guide to go back on going back to stock eclair... http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guid...nja-apps-everything/page__p__11106#entry11106
OK but here's the thing... I didn't root my phone the first time so I don't know how to reroot it and I remember the Instructions for simply stock said if I am installing from an eclair or froyo rom I have to use the small version, then medium version and finally full version... but there is only 1 file soooo.. again I'm lost x.x

1) Odin to stock(make sure you take out your sim card and you micro sd card)
2) root
3) install rom manager from market
4) install CWM from rom manager
5) wipe factory reset/cache from CWM
6) flash simple jvt rom
GOOD LUCK
Not quite sure what you mean by small version, medium version, and full version. But if you need help getting you phone rooted after returning to stock then follow these instructions straight from the noob guide posted by s15274n...
GREAT, I AM ON JFD NOW - HOW DO I ROOT?
You are likely still connected to your PC and booted up to the T-Mobile jingle. Great, drop the notification bar down and mount your phone...
HERE ARE THE STEPS TO FOLLOW....
BUT FIRST... WHAT UPDATE.ZIP FILE DO YOU NEED?
There are two options here. Choose before you start.
A – an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs. There have been issues with CWR not flashing properly recently (June 2011), hence Option B.
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
So, A or B?
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
Also, download the ROM you plan to flash (assuming you are not sticking on JFD – why would you).
LINK TO THE DEV SECTION
2. Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3. Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4. In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5. It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now... I COVER HOW TO FLASH ROMS LATER – JUST KEEP READIN BELOW
Yeah, it is that easy!!

Also, once you're on stock and rooted just flash the rom like normal...
1) Boot into recovery (Volumes + Power)
2) Do a factory reset, wipe cache partition, and wipe dalvik (in Advanced Menu)
3) Then go to "install zip from sd card" > "choose zip from sd card" > Select the rom.
4) Reboot and you should be good to go.

This is the "medium" - http://www.multiupload.com/H2SEQVI9AO
This is the "Large" - http://www.multiupload.com/WWYGBJAS10
****Both "medium" & "large" are basically the same one with more apps and such than the other****
Simply Stock JVT
http://www.multiupload.com/5GM8SQPTQJ
- Flash the "small" first
- Choose either "medium" OR "large" and flash
- Finish with Simply Stock flash
Of course do the normal clearing of settings and allow time for ROM to settle between flashes.
Good luck!
The small/medium basically is the old school of aquiring gb bootload. If you wanna go there, the dev sec has odin flashable backward compatible boots. there safer but i never trusted gb. bootload bricks a permenant.
I successfully performed Unknownforce's hboot downgrade and rooted using Revolutionary. I want to start trying out ROMs but a friend told me I should back some stuff up first.
My first problem is I wanted to take a screenshot of my apps menu just in case I lost them but I wasn't able to do it like I used to with the POWER + HOME buttons.
My second problem is Titanium Backup. Apparently I have to run this in root, but I thought my phone was rooted already? Do I have to run it in a rooted ROM? If so, what's the best way to backup my current ROM and configuration?
I'm so lost. Can someone post a quick and dirty guide to doing these things? It might be easier if I understand the concept and flow of what I should be doing.
Thanks.

If you are rooted, you should have superuser, check your app drawer. Get titanium backup from the market and backup the apps you want or you can just do a full system backup with TWRP (team win recovery). There are many good roms out there. I'm partial to Meanrom. Head over to the EVO 3d developer thread and click on the roll up sticky thread for all the links that can guide you through this.

Super user is an app. It gives permission for other apps to have root privileges, such as titanium backup.
If you do not have superuser in your app drawer then most likely your not rooted. Flash this zip from recovery and you'll be rooted.http://db.tt/4MQNcpdb. Revolutionary does not give you root, it just gives you s-off. I am going to assume that you flashed a recovery during the revolutionary process so I will not go into that.
I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone. DISCLAIMER: If you choose to follow these direction and use the zip from above I am not at all responsible for anything that may happen to your phone or sdcard.
1. Go into menu/setting/power and make sure fastboot is unchecked. Fastboot will prevent your phone from booting into bootloader unless you do a battery pull.
2. Power phone off.
3. Boot into bootloader. Do this by holding volume down and power button until phone boots into bootloader. Make sure you hold volume down button first.
4. Once booted into bootloader select bootloader then select recovery. This will reboot phone into recovery. (Navigate bootloader and recovery by using volume buttons and make selection using power button)
5. Once in recovery select "install zip from sdcard"
6. The superuser zip will be in your download folder if you downloaded it directly from phone, select that folder then select the super user zip from the link I provided.
7. Select "yes install zip from sdcard"
8. Once the zip is flashed select "go back" then select "reboot phone".
9. Your phone will boot up like normal. Check in your app drawer for the super user app, if its there your golded. One more note, you can make a backup of your entire setup from recovery. Just select backup/restore and select backup.
ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ANY ROMS OR MODS.
After you have made your backup I would suggest that you update your firmware first then look into flashing what ever rom you choose. Go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443592 and look under other firmware bits and you will see xHausx latest everything. That will give you all the firmware, newest prl, radio, and other updates. It will look like this
Firmware w/o hBoot, System, Boot and Recovery partitions. (Must be S-OFF)
http://dev-host.org/svsae25h2v0n/PG86IMG-2.17.651.5_Firmware_Only.zip
MD5:25442C4C8EDDD628391FA6E3CD9924B0
Once you download it check the md5 and verify that it matches up with the one given under the zip file. IF IT DOES NOT MATCH UP DO NOT FLASH IT, COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE. Redownload it and check it again. If it matches up place it on the root of your sdcard and rename it PG86IMG.zip. make sure it is typed exactly like you see it or the bootloader wont see it. Once that is done boot back into bootloader and you might have to select bootloader. It will find the PG86IMG and ask you if you want to update it. You will have to press volume up to select yes. Once your updated make sure you either rename that zip file or place it into a folder so that the bootloader can't see and prompt to update again. You wont be able to get into recovery from bootloader if it still sees a zip file with the name of PG86IMG.

Thanks for all your help. I successfully performed all the steps you mentioned but when I boot up and check the 'Software number' it still says I am on 1.13.651.7. Is that how it's supposed to be?
Also, can anyone help me with the screenshot function? It seems I've lost the ability to take screenshots all of a sudden.
Yes you are still on the old software because of the hboot rollback. That is why it shows an older software number and also why you have lost the screenshot function. You only updated the radio and firmware at this point. You should now be able to use titanium backup to backup all you apps. If you want to save the positing of the app on your home screens use the desktop backup feature also in titanium.
Once that's done your ready to flash a rom. I suggest cleanrom to start out. Go here to find it http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=98 this will be flashed from recovery. Once your apps are backed up make sure you sync your contacts with your Google account because flashing a rom the right way WILL erase all user data. It will not effect firmware or radio though.
1. Reboot into recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Wipe cache
4. Go into advanced menu and wipe dalvich cache.
5. Install zip from sdcard. Should also be in your download folder if you downloaded it directly from phone. Choose the cleanrom zip or what ever one you chose and your good to go.
I don't remember if clean rom has titanium backup included in the rom or not. If not once your Google account is set back up just download it again and restore all the apps that you backed up.

Boot into recovery and do a nand back up incase something go's wrong when that's done by now you should have titanium back up installed and back up any apps that you want to keep and then find a ROM that may like and flash it but for you flash the ROM read the post first to find out what's working and what's Knott working and base your desission off that and if you fell thats the right ROM for you try it out and before you flash any Rom's download a super wipe tool I highly recommend it and wipe every thing as normal factory reset wipe dalvic cache scroll down to advance click on it and scroll down to dalvic wipe battery star's wipe and then go back to your download folder and you will install the super wipe tool when thats done your ready to flash your new ROM go back to the download folder and flash the ROM don't install any them's until you've had a full boot and that way you will know what's working and what isn't working. Good luck

Just search in development section for a rom for your phone you like. There will be installation instructions and a kernel to flash.
Make sure battery status is more than 75%, best 100%
1. Download the zip to install the rom and copy it to your sd card. Download the kernel (make sure the right one for your device),too.
2. Download sony flashtool and install it.
3. Open flashtool and click on the flash, select "fastboot mode" and choose "select kernel to flash". Now put your phone in fastboot mode (hold volume up while connecting to pc, blue led will turn on)
4. Select the kernel you have downloaded from the thread of the rom. It should be named boot.img. Flashtool will automaticly flash it.
5. SEE THE LOG FOR ERRORS. IF THERE ARE NO ERRORS/BAD BLOCKS, CONTINUE!
6. Unplug device and restart. Press volume down again and again.
7. Look in the forum thread, what has to be wiped/formatted (for example /system or /data or just do a factory reset).
8. Select "install zip from sd card" -> "choose zip" -> choose the installation zip you put on your sd card. and click yes.
9. Just let it install, don't pull battery, because you think it stucks.
(9.1) If there is an aroma installer, you will have to choose your device (volume up or down to navigate) and home button to select. If required select unlocked bootloader.
(9.2) If there were any fixes on the thread, just flash them, too. For that you had to put on sd card before starting everything!
10. Reboot and enjoy
Hope it helps

Hope it helps

tnx for your reply its been a great help :good::good:
I want to flash my Samsung Fascinate to Eclipse from AOKP. But the problem is, I do not know how to. I had a friend flash it the first time, but I won't be able to ask him for a while. But he told me not to hard reset it because if I did, it would be bricked. If you need to know, the version of Eclipse I want to flash is v5.0.

Alright, so here are the links from the eclipse Rom thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1977656)
First download The Rom and Gapps. I find it easier to download right through my phone browser. If you downloaded from your browser, it should be in the /downloads folder.
Rom: http://d-h.st/KON
Gapps: http://d-h.st/921
Next, go into recovery. DO NOT USE THE THREE FINGER METHOD. You can unlock your device, and hold the power button. It should say reboot, the click on recovery and boot there OR download a app called " Rom Manager" and boot into recovery from there.
Once your in recovery, Factory reset your phone, and wipe cache. Use the volume up and down keys to move, and the power button to make selections.
After that, go to "Install zip from SD card", then "Choose zip from SD card" and locate the /downloads folder. Open up the folder and find the Rom that you downloaded. Click on the Rom (with the power button) and install it. After that, do the same, and this time look for the gapps and Install that. Once your done, just reboot your device, and it should load.
**Keep in mind that you will need to re download all your apps. Sign in with your Google account you used to get your contacts and sync other data.
