I love CM7, but I need HDMI, I know a lot of you do too. I am trying to learn how we can get HDMI on this ROM, but I'm still a n00b at stuff like this. So I was thinking we could have a brain storm thread to see how we can make HDMI work.
Here's what electroman987 sent me:
Hey,
Just wondering if makeing an app with the API library would be the best bet. No real android programming but with what I have learned, it would seem that a custom app would be the easiest way.

I'm sure if we come together and brain storm, we can figure it out!

Maybe, but like I said, it's moto specific drivers.
I'm still leaning towards the lib area of a stock build.

Think we could just pull the files off a ROM that has HDMI mirroring and put them in CM7? Or would we have to change stuff in the files?
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App
Motodev.com has motorola specific api, including hdmi. Are these specific to blur or only kernel? I know the original Droid x had an app called real hdmi and another called xternaldisplay which added TV out on a device that didn't support it.
Maybe we can make a similar app using their API?
edit: cool my response took forever to type. Someone already suggested something similar

Unfortunately, the Moto HDMI files are blur infested POS's. What would have to happen is the HDMI files will need to be pulled from Moto's repo and then reworked. Starting with the api might be a good start, however, you now need to figure out the drivers.. That is a PITA.
Ciao!
Got something for you IDMA... let me get you a link.

I think the application will work for our device; however, I don't have an HDMI cable or experience with it to try and test out.

Unfortunately for this to work it would appear we would need webtop working on the x2, a project that was abandoned several months ago due to the x2's limited memory. For those curious, you can read through the thread here.
Just try it please.
No hate intended.
Edit: I just saw that WebTop was required, but I wanna see if you at least get the HDMI output.

In theory, No, its a Driver that has to be built into the ROM, that will "tick" if it is activated. By 'built into a ROM' I mean: In the System area of the device. Maybe even a fstab like file could be the problem, while the driver is built into the Kernel. I'm still looking into it, but no way to test

Is it possible to get a port of the Webtop app from the Atrix that uses only HDMI connection to work on a TV? Just curious, seems like it shouldn't be too impossible since they are able to port Roms over from the Atrix already, and internally they are similar devices if I am not mistaken.

Off topic, Nebraska fan huh? Welcome to the Big 10! Go Blue!
Back on topic, what I don't understand is why I am the first one to bring it up, unless it was brought up in a rom thread? I don't know that much about the Webtop app, however, I played with it on my buddies Bionic and it seels like a pretty good alternative option to buying an expensive new laptop. I don't see myself buying a lapdock or anything right now cuz I think it is too early in the development to spend money on something that will be out of date by CES 2012. Once we have Quad core ARM processors, or 2gHZ + processors without overclock it might become worth it.

Yeah I'm on eclipse 1.0, and I flashed Nitro's HDMI fix before I flashed the atrix webtop HDMI.
EDIT: With only the HDMI fix from Nitro it just mirrors as usual, no menu pops up at all. The only new thing you get is a little hdmi icon in the status bar.

I flashed it right over my ParanoidAndroid ROM and also AOKP and it works great. Should work fine on CM9 as well but I havent tested that. As always, backing up before flashing is a good idea.

I will post here when there is voice search fix. Apparently its getting worked on. As it is right now though, its pretty cool. Searching for stuff works just the same and you get the "cards" feature. I never used the Google search box before so I didnt really mind replacing it.
Bump for OP change.
So far I'm not too impressed with how it works in cm9. It's very sluggish for me, I have to touch the screen after searches to get results to "refresh", and it has caused a reboot twice while doing a voice search. I flashed via cm7 recovery, cleared dalvik and cache. Also for some reason I can't get it to add a shorts team to the sports card.

Hi. I'm a new user of the CM10 Alpha 2 and am very thankful for the work put into it. I have encountered some issues I wanted to report. I did search the thread before posting this but it's entirely possible I missed something.
I use an app called AutomateIt to do some stuff on demand. One of those things is to enabled Bluetooth when I put the phone in the car dock. The trigger still works as the other actions I have scheduled (volume changes, etc...) still happen but BT never turns on. Oddly it IS able to turn BT off when I undock.
When I undock and turn BT off my audio appears to stop working. I no longer hear media audio nor the UI sounds when I tap. I haven't tested call audio yet to find out if that's broken. Rebooting the phone restores audio.
Apps that install themselves on the SD card disappear on reboot. I found a post where someone suggested moving these to internal, which I have done. I've had about a 50% success rate so far as some of the apps crash on launch after moving to internal.
Netflix closes immediately upon launch. Several apps close intermittently: Email, Gmail, & Flipboard are some examples.

I don't even have my bootable base anymore. Forgot to make copy before I started modding it to get data working. Unfortunately I got work tomorrow. If I can get an uploaded bootable ROM then I can work on what isn't working. Sure wish there was a android kitchen for lg g2 to attempt doing this the way I would prefer. Plus this is effectively the first ROM in which I am doing this. Usually just editing and modding other Roms for myself. Hope I'm not biting of more than I can chew.

Its OK. Hopefully this thread gets some juices going on getting this ROM done.
If anyone has a booting ROM with either a data or phone issue please upload so we can collectively try to solve the issue.

Can anyone give me an idea of what has been tried thus far? I figured I would try to help since everyone was asked but me. Unless the reason nobody asked me is because you don't want my help. Lmao
I've got it booted on my phone and have data working, but phone is broke and contacts fc every once and a while

Did that already didn't work for me. So I'm going to tell everyone what I did to get to this point so we can all work on a solution together

We started with a flex ROM and changed boot img libs/modules. Etc /permissions pertaining to Verizon also a build prop edited for it. Basically got a booting ROM with no data. Originally that was with tangjuns ROM. Then I tried starfighters and couldn't get it to boot. Now one of us is trying rayglobe. But we would defiantly love to have your help to get this off the ground. I asked in your thread about a Verizon version of aeon flux. Just trying to get some of these great Roms for our phones. You guys do great work and obviously help each other out. I am the new guy that chose this as my first project. Thanks for all you can do.

Some of you said you were having trouble getting the flex Rom to boot.
These are the steps i've taken:
In Android Development there is a thread by Tangjun269.
On page 13 of thread is a rom called Flex_Rayglob.zip 952.3 mb
I downloaded this rom it's got Gapps baked in and has the ugly black around the icons removed witch I think looks better.
I use root explorer to extract rom then I replaced these items from any one (your choice) of the stock rooted 12b builds in the Verizon section:
Extracting each one from 12b and dropping into extracted flex rom.
Boot.ing
META-INF
etc/apns-conf.xml
Lib/modules
Now zip rom, boot into recovery back up and flash.

No go tried contacts and phone.
if we can get these two jars to framework and actually boot, it might work.
/framework/com.verizon.settings.jar"/>
/framework/com.verizon.phone.jar"/>
everytime i flash them, or push them, the phone wont boot :/
I think we might have more luck if we disabled signature checks. That might be causing issues of being able to switch the apks over. I don't remember if you disable this In android policy.jar or services.jar
