TetherGPS not working for ICS, any Alts? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Greetings fellow Primers,
Didn't see this anywhere specifically for the Transformer Prime but have seen it in spotty locations on other device forums.
Since the GPS does not work as a standalone then we will have to utilize our android phones to get our navigation working. I have seen that the TetherGPS app prior to ICS update worked flawlessly for this purpose.
Is there another app or something else anyone is using/doing in order to get navigation working on their Prime? Was anyone else using the TetherGPS app prior to ICS on any other device?

Wish this could be a sticky:
on the phone:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.Saenko.GpsOverBt&hl=en
on the prime:
https://market.android.com/details?id=googoo.android.btgps&hl=en
pair the prime with your phone...
enable all built-in location services, enable "mock locations"

That did it...and I agree it should be in a sticky somewhere. Wish they had a toggle version of those apps so you wouldn't have to open up the apps to accomplish this.
Beggars can't be choosers though...it works. Thanks!

I agree this should be stickied. I was trying to use Bluetooth GPS yesterday but had it backwards. Obviously not ideal but it works

Why it doesn't work? I got the client started.
[email protected]

Just an update for those still interested -
The 1.2.1 TetherGPS update fixes the ICS issue, and will now work with your Transformer Primes. It's on the Android Market, and will be up on Amazon's market in a few days.
Let me know if you run into any issues!

At least the latest lite version still does not work on my galaxy nexus :-/

[DEV] Bluetooth Experience

Hi,
I managed to start bluetooth on nookie froyo, BT scan is working well(on command line), sometimes it shows devices in the android gui.
The steps : ( use at your own risk and only for comfirmed devs)
Add bluetooth capabilities (HCILL) in kernel
Toggle the WL12XX_RFKILL flag on in evt1a defconfig.
Take the bluetooth firmware (bts file) from gforge.ti ( wl1271 firmware) for froyo pandroid and put it into /system/lib/firmware, alias /lib/firmware to /system/lib/firmware (useful for command line).
boot the kernel
and then
echo 0 >/sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state
echo 1 >/sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state
hciattach -s 115200/dev/ttyS1 texas
hcitool scan must show you your BT devices (if discoverable)
Stability is not yet here, Maybe some problems with UART high speed handling ?
This is very positive, it seems that the wl1271 chip is well connected to omap3621...
I will continue to dig ...

outstanding!
Woah. You, sir, just won TWO free copies of the internets! Can't wait to see where this goes, now that the HW seems to be good!
Forgive my ignorance on the subject but what does this mean? maybe the remote possibility of finally being able to use skype and actually talk with a bluetooth earpiece/headset?
That means, IMHO:
1) The hardware is in fact connected. One less thing wait for the salting crew to find.
2) It is possible bluetooth can now be activated in software, since the devs now know it is not a complete waste of time trying to activate hardware that is present but not live.
3) This guy freakin' rocks!

/me breaks out bt gps dongle to charge it, and runs out to his car to see if the bin on his center dashboard can fit a 7" screen. Yep! Just fits.

Forget skype?! Blasphemy!
I'm definitely looking forward to being able to use a BT mic + A2DP audio. Now that Clockwork recovery is mostly working, it's going to be great when a 2.2/2.3 custom ROM is out there to just flash and get all this stuff working and easily installed/reproducible.

Wiimote > Skype
This is wonderful. Now I can connect a wiimote to my nook to play emulators with!
Is this something that can be added to the stock firmware, or does it require compile options that aren't enabled in B&N's firmware?
SCORE!!!!
This means it is only a matter of time until our NCs are fully-enabled tablets. Awesome
Anyone know if Android's location services can use Bluetooth GPS as a "native" location device?
I have a hunch that B&N may officially add this in the 2.2 update to make it either look better in a marketing sense (why they would have it off I do not know except... * ) or to go with some fancy accessory.
*They might have it off due to a radio licencing fee they would have to pay or something... No firm data on this IMO just an observation.
Outstanding!

You might be able to tether your android phone's GPS to your NC using Bluetooth with an app in the market called BlueNMEA and an app called Bluetooth GPS in the market. Bluetooth GPS allows your android device to use an external Bluetooth NMEA compatible GPS with apps that require a GPS, like Google Maps. So if you put BlueNMEA on your phone and turned your phone into the antenna and then put Bluetooth GPS on your phone to receive the signal, it might work.
very good!!!

They probably left it off because, right now, the Nook Color is not open to 3rd-party software. There's nothing available (officially) that can use it, so there's no reason to spend development resources getting it running.

[Q] Rooted Cisco AnyConnect on TF201 crashes

New to XDA,...first post and all that jazz. On to the question...
I've rooted my Prime this morning...that all works fine and dandy; big props to all the folks involved in that!
One of the reasons was that I need AnyConnect to connect to my work VPN. I've installed the latest version from the market, installed the latest tun.ko using the tun.ko installer from the market. I've got the latest iptables. Also, my Prime is all on the latest firmware across the board.
AnyConnect starts just fine, grabs the list of groups. I am able to give it a username/password, but once I attempt to authenticate, the Prime freezes for a moment, then reboots.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling each component in this with no luck. I'm reaching out to the community on this. It would be fantastic to have this since it's the last thing keeping me from selling my 1215n, (...that 1215n is awesome, but bulky compared to the Prime, though I did upgrade it to 8GB ram and a 128GB SSD).
Thanks in advance; everyone here is awesome, give yourselves cookies and beers.
I'll be trying this as soon as I have time to root/play; I'll let you know what I find out.
But one thing to keep in mind is that ICS will bring a native VPN API system, and there should be a true Cisco AnyConnect method that works without rooting very soon.

I did read that ICS would supposedly have native support for AnyConnect. I'm just hoping that this works so I can list that netbook sooner rather than later. I'm sure I'm not the only person that wants to connect their Prime to their AnyConnect VPN now though.
[bump]
Hoping a few others get a chance to see this and try it.

Perhaps a stupid question, but does this mean F5 Firepass SSL will work natively in ICS?
AnyConnect originally didn't support rooted devices. Cisco came up with a version that did. You might want to do some research. It might just be that it's incompatible with the Prime. There are G-Tab users that have it working with root so the rooted version works with HC.
anyone else notice that the VPN service from the network settings causes a reset?
AnyConnect available on market (2.4) does not support TF201, AnyConnect 2.5 in beta has ICS support, currently does not have TF201 specific support though. Hopefully we will have full ICS support upon official release on market.
I was getting similar issues prior to ICS upgrade, now, different set of issues on the AnyConnect 2.5 loading properly.
TF201 ICS
I've used Rooted AnyConnect 2.4.7073 with sklid's tun.ko, and didn't have any issues. I only used it for a few minutes, though.

Hey, I tried a few things to get up and running and had a lot of problems. I then ended up needing to reinstall the latest firmware/distro (don't ask).
I installed ICS, then it installed cisco anyconnect (latest from market), I then rooted my transformer prime tf201. At this point when I opened cisco anyconnect it loaded fine but showed me tun.ko wasn;t installed.
Instead of fudging around I installed:
Tun.ko Installer
From the android market
I then checked all boxes to narrow the search and installed.
Everything worked fine, and I'm on the company VPN.
The ICS build for the TF201 was initially compiled without the tun kernel module. An update that should already be available will be compatible with the now available AnyConnect ICS package from the market. If you're using the existing rooted package (2.4.7073) you might run into some undesired behavior getting everything setup and working, though it sounds like some of you were able to get it working fine.
Also note that if you want to install the new AnyConnect ICS package, you will need to uninstall the rooted package before installing that one since the package ids are different. A reboot between uninstalling and installing is also desired.
Root needed?
I was patiently waiting for the 9.4.2.15 update to see if VPN would be fixed (without root). I was actually able to get connected with 9.4.2.14, but cannot remote desktop, ping, etc. with either version.
Am I correct in saying that without rooting and doing other "things" aside from the standard firmware updates that i will not be able to get VPN working (IPSEC XAUTH PSK). I know my settings are correct because VPN works on my laptop and iphone.
Any help would be appreciated as this is the last piece that I am trying to get working on my Transformer Prime.
Thanks, James

There is a Fake GPS app - I need a Fake Tablet app...

Ok ... I am a huge baseball fan.
The MLB At Bat 2012 app is the same for phones and tablets.
I am assuming, somewhere in the app, it checks to see what tablet and OS I am running on.
When it discovers my tablet isn't on the "supported list" (either in the app or a check online), it won't enable the live video features.
The damn Kindle Fire is supported, but at this point, the Prime isn't.
You can spoof locations ... but, can you spoof your tablet? ie when checked, have the tablet report it's a Samsung Galaxy, Fire, etc?
Sounds silly, I know ... but the devs at MLB won't just allow everyone to try to stream.. my 2 year old EVO streams just fine.
And I can actually stream live MLB games using desktop mode of Opera.. but, I can't "Fake GPS" ... it checks my ISP. With using the app on the phone, it checks phones position using GPS or Network or whatever..
Anyway, curious if it's possible ... lol anyone up for a crazy worthless challenge?!
Either that or crack that damn app so it doesn't check which device I have.. sigh.

Try changing the build.prop file in systems folder, some apps check that to get device info. Ie. System apk. Just replace each "transformer prime" with whatever you think is supported

Changing the build.prop to a different device I think would be a bad idea.... I would definitely do a LOT of research first because you could really screw up badly.....
If you can post up the APK someone might be able to figure out what its checking and either disable it or find a workaround.
EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw on the Market it's a $15 paid app.
Sorry if this is a little bit unrelated, but this is one of the only forums where I've found people discussing the At Bat 12 app.
In the past I've spoofed my GPS location with the app "Fake GPS" (the OP alluded to this). This year it doesn't seem to be working. Did they change to using cell tower IDs or something instead of GPS location?
I am able to spoof. Wasn't originally, but I had forgot to allow mock locations.
That and turn off the check position by cell network.
Just watched Rays beat Yankees and Rays are blacked out here.

There is a LITE version that requires a log in to your MLB.TV subscription to get all the features. Kind of like Netflix (Which also didn't work with the Tranformer originally! lol )
Sorry, I don't know how to attach the apk and cant include a link as a n00b, but a market search for AT BAT LITE will bring it up.
I've got the same problem. No video.
My dad (in his early 70s) saw my Transformer and went out and bought a Prime thinking he could watch MLB through it. No Dice.
And while we've found a workaround using Opera, its horrible, difficult, and not very pretty (Just loging into his MLB.com account and streaming through the browser). The whole point of the app was to make it easy for a non-tech savvy guy like my old man.
If there's an easy solution to "fix" that app, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd love to get the MLB working for him!
Anyone want to take a peek? I'll buy the beer.
Would be nice if they would just support it.
I am sure it's something small in the app.. something that is checking the device to see if it's on the "tested list".
I have both the Lite (which is free in both markets), and the $15 paid version.
I finally said screw it and ordered Dish with the regional sports package ($9/mo addon).. now, with that, I get the Rays, Marlins and Braves games live and in HD (they are blacked out on MLB.tv because I am in their market), and with MLB.tv on the PS3, Xbox and Roku, I get everything else (because games OUT of my market are blacked out on Dish). Black out rules are so strange.
I stream to my TFP using the Dish Android App, which connects to my Sling Adapted hooked up at home on my new Dish Hopper DVR.
It's not the same as a full functioning app, but, I can watch the Rays games live at work.
Never mind! The Transformer Prime is now working with MLB At Bat!

location
I am trying catch me if you can as a gps locator. I turned off wifi and gps locator. When I bring up the map it shows my fake location as expected, but at bat still locates me to in the blackout area? Are there steps that I am missing?
I use FakeGPS.
Check allow mock locations in the developer settings.
With Wifi on, Run FakeGPS. Map will download, set location. Run FakeGPS. Stop location. I do this initially so I can see the map. After you do this, fakegps will always have your location in that spit, so no need to download map everyone via wifi.
Turn off Wifi. Uncheck all 3 options in location settings.
Run FakeGPS.
Set location.
Turn on wifi.
Load at bat.
should be good to go.

B&N Bookstore (Magazine Subs) on ROMs

So I've gathered that for some reason the B&N Bookstore APK won't run on custom ROMS like CM 9/10. I haven't been able to find through searching in this forum why this is the case. Is anyone aware of why the app won't run? Is it an internal check for a model string or something like that?
I'm running the latest CM10 Alpha and it's really killing me not having wired on the nook...that was one of the big selling points of it for me - digital access to my WIRED subscription. If I can somehow help get development started on patching that app, I'd like to.
I am running the Alien Fire ROM and the B&N Nook app works. I have two magazine subscriptions and they work just fine.

Are you referring to the Nook app that's available through Google Play? There are several magazine apps that will only work through the B&N Nook app that's part of the stock ROM. WIRED is one of these subscriptions and will only work from that particular APK.
Time and People won't work in the Play Store version either. You can see what will and what won't on the decription of the specific magazine on the B&N website.
Bump. Still looking for a way to access my WIRED subscription from my non stock rom.

Turning HP Touchpad into an sort-of Amazon Echo Show

Hello all,
I love my Touchpad. It got me through College, especially with its completely underrated out-of-the-box office suite. However now it just functions as my Alarm Clock on my bedside table on a Touchstone dock.
When the Amazon Echo Show came out, I think I can saw we all laughed a little. After all, who would would want a tablet with at-a-glance information that they can't carry around with them. Then I realized, that's *exactly* how I use my Touchpad in Exhibition mode. So that got me thinking: how could I transform the hardware I already have and love into a device similar to the Echo Show.
Now, in my mind, there are three ways to do this:
a) Keep webOS and install the somewhat buggy ACL made by Phoenix Communications then install the Alexa handsfree app from the new Fire10 tablet (if I can find the APK). Basing myself on this article: https://techcrunch.com/2017/09/19/a...s-as-a-cheap-echo-show-with-hands-free-alexa/
b) Install Android 6.0+, and make the Google Assistant my Alexa stand-in. I would therefore need to find a way to port-over webOS's Exhibition Mode. Also perhaps the Prelude fonts, as I find Roboto completely unappealing.
c) Install ANY version of Android, and use the same Alexa handsfree app from a), setting it to be constantly on (no screen lock).
Given the Touchpad's aging hardware, any Android ROM would need to be fast, minimal and barebones as I don't intend to use this for much else. It does, however, need to be stable enough to not crash every time I say "Ok Google" or "Alexa".
Any tips on how I should proceed?
Thanks in advance!

Quick Update:
Option a) does not work. As I suspected, the ACL simply doesn't work well enough to run the Google Assistant and listen for the Ok, Google hotword. I didn't run the Alexa app, but I suspect I'll run into similar issues with it.
This leaves me with options b) and c). I've been installing all sorts of different ROMs for the past day and I keep running into a recurring issue: the WiFi on my tablet doesn't seem to be working. It works fine in webOS, but in every single Android version I've run it gets stuck on "turning WiFi on".
I suspect I have an issue with the ath6kl driver, but I can't find a replacement driver updated for anything past CM9. Can anyone help me? I seem to be having the exact same issue OP is having in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hp-touchpad/help/wifi-wont-clean-flash-t3612062

Hey !
Thanks to kernel and settings found here, my TouchPad is now usable.
I plan to use it as a control screen for my home automation system, and a echo show / google home like.
You told that the Google Assistant was active, and usable on your TouchPad. Could you please explain me how did you activate it ?
I tried some tricks found on xda dev, but i'm stuck with google now...
