hello fellow xda members. well i have a problem and its that i have no idea how to downgrade my phone (xperia neo v) firmware from .62 to .42/.58 ( sorry noob here ). i really need to downgrade my phone so that i can root it and flash a rom so that i can get a rooted .6s fw. Thanks in advance )

yes you can , download .42 firmware(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313445) and flash it via flashtool, now you will be on .42 firmware ,root it & install CWM(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509) , now go to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446308) download the zip file & install it from CWM & reboot , now you will be on .62 firmware & rooted

Hey thanks man. will try it out and post results when im done
Sent from my MT11i using XDA App

oh btw, can i delete the .62 rom after installing it? thanks

Correct?
The way I understand it:
To root your phone you need .42 version of firmware or older. To DOWNGRADE your firmware you need booloader unlock. And to do that you need to intervene to the hardware of your device.
So if you have updated your firmware to .62, to root your phone you need to intervene to your device's hardware and there for loos your warranty and risk frying your phone.
Sorry if I’ve stated something wrong, I’m new to this. If there is ANY other way to root my phone, please, let me know.
I’d rather not risk frying my phone; thing that, since I’m a newb, is highly possible, if I choose the “hardware” way.
Thanks in advance.

Questions better in general section. Thanks.

Cheers
I guess you have locked bootloader. You can try with RootXperia.zip method with CWM recovery for locked bootloaders.
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20671610&postcount=14
I also updated to .62 fw but didn't tried this method, as I haven't got time.
Hmm, you can also try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446308
Although you will need to flash old .42 or .58 version with flash tool.
Not sure how this one is preroot-ed but I guess same as above with RootXperia.zip, I mean with same files.
EDIT: Yeah, just realized that my first suggestion wont work, because you need root access to install cwm

1) Flash using Wotanserver, search about it on this forum
2) Flash using flashtool with .42 .tft file firmware.

You can try this ...... (I can't post the links because I'm new here. Who want to know please give me a PM and I'll show the links) . I follow first one and it worked for me. I have a Neo with .62 fw unlocked but the solution is good for locked phones too. Is a very easy tutorial and quick to apply it.
I ask moderators to not warm me again to move my post on other tread (like before). I try to find on this forum 2 days a solution to root my neo but I found only few ways complicated and not good for me. I couldn't post any question on some treads where peoples discuss about this because I'm new here and is a stupid rule what is forbidden this. If I'm new is not mean that I'm stupid too.
Thanks.

So if you found some new method, which isn't already explained in (at least) 2 threads, tell us.
For locked BL you have this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468866
For unlocked BL: simply get kernel which have recovery, and flash rootxperia.zip

How Can I revert Stock Rom?

I flashed to 4.0.1.A.0.283 Generic Global rom but now I want to revert to stock rom and I want root with easy way. What can I do?
Why using that old fw??
Flash .42 fw, and root it with DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit.
Everything is in STICKY thread in development section.
Which is why I suggest you, first read sticky threads and other ones, then ask questions.

For Neo V
01.Flash to 0.42 fw using flashtool
02.Root and install CWM
03.Download this & install it with cwm, just install. No need to wipe anything
(If your boot loader is unlocked use this instead )
And you have rooted, cwm installed 0.62 fw
For Neo
01.Flash to 0.42 fw using flashtool
02.Root and install CWM
I cannot find a proper link like the Neo v one for Neo,I guess you have to unlock boot loader to root Neo in 0.62 fw.There is nothing much upgraded anyway in 0.62 comparing to 0.42.So no harm in staying 0.42.And next time please mention what phone do you own(Neo or Neo V ) please.
Anyway if u did little research before asking this I'm pretty sure you would've found the answer already in Neo V android development section mate.
My phone have unlock bootloader. that's why I can't flash an another fw. Because it can be brick.

OTA can brick your phone, but flash shouldn't. Why I say shouldn't? Because if you follow instructions everything will be ok. Follow link I gave you, and flash .42 fw with flahtool.

Yes, it is.
To OP: OTA update can be done over 3G also, it is not a requirement to use WiFi.

He went back to a previous firmware, because .62 is unrootable and so the devices isn't like you have bought it, because the .ftf you flash isn't the same like the one on phone before
that kind of solution excludes AZERTY HW keyborad of the SK17i ? it seems that every custom rom every is design for US HW keyboard but i dont want to lose my keyconfig anymore by switching firmware,

Search for a french firmware ftf, maybe in development forum you could find one
Or you copy the keyprint.xml from your current rom, save it on your pc, flash a generic firmware and push the file back :good:

Sorry for bothering.
I was reading many texts on this forum and all over the net, and because I`m a newbie I`m still not sure if I`m right about this.
So this 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware is not rootable unless I downgrade right ? I have an xperia ray if that makes any difference.
So the only solution for me to root the phone is to flash the phone with an older version of gingerbread right ?
Thanks in advance.

I guess there's no .68 firmware. Only .58/.62/.69/
I would update; with an ota update (via wifi) you shouldn't loose root. To be on the safe side, download the local-prop script (how to root .431), run it on your current firmware, update, see if you have root, if not run push-root-files

[help] Any way to root Gingerbread 4.0.2.A.0.62 having an UNLOCKED bootloader? help

I feel lost now. Too much forum search, lots of threads that lead nowhere, methods that don't work.
I want to have Gingerbread 4.0.2.A.0.62 rooted. My phone state today, is descripted in my signature.
I'm on version 58, rooted and with bootloader UNLOCKED and using Rage Kernel.
I can't upgrade OTA becase the bootlader stuff - but I can't Flashtool 4.0.2.A.0.62 either, because the processs makes me loses root.
Why?
I did this before. I Had version 62, downgraded to 58, rooted then flashed 62 and everthiing was ok: 62 rooted and everything ok - but then, I had a locked bootloader.
Is the unlocked bootloader the problem here? (done by the official way). Any way to revert it? There is a post where they called "Relock bootloader" - doesn't work on my Sony.
I think I'm gonna cry
any help will be much appreaciated - please forgive my English :crying:
EDIT : sorry, wrong post, please delete

OTA update to 6.1.A.2.45 for rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader

I have a rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader, by following instructions on this thread.
Today I received a notification about OTA update to 6.1.A.2.45 (40MB in size) and I was wondering if I can apply this update without loosing root. I really did search for an answer on the forum before making this post and couldn't find anything specific for my phone, but what I did found only confused me more, which is to be expected since I am a noob. Apparently it worked for some users of Xperia Play with unlocked bootloader, but on the other hand some users of Xperia Arc S say that bootloader should be locked when making an OTA update.
I would really appreciate any help from more experienced members, I'm new in Android and don't want to start by bricking my phone.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Boom
better dont, you will end up with a bricked device. NEVER accept OTA updates if your bootloader is unlocked.
Don't update with PCC when you're unlocked.
Wow, that was fast! Thank you guys.
hi, did you find how to update?

Hmmm,
Slightly different scenario here.
I have a rooted xperia S with a locked bootloader and obviously want to preserve root.
Previous experience tells me that a PC update from SEUS does a full wipe of the phone and looses root however OTA updates usually preserve root. I was hoping somebody could clarify if this is still the case?
Thanks
if your bootloaders unlocked you cant update ota or via seus. it will just give an error about your device being modified

I've not been on much recently at all so I could be wrong, but I'm sure it's been said that you can flash ROM such as the linked one when bootloader is locked and perhaps the pre-rooted one too. May need to search the thread.
Nothing out there that allows me to root my Xperia S on ICS without wiping my data though I think. One can wait... or dream. :[

Yeah having too wipe at this point is a bummer. If I'm going to wipe my phone ill wait for the ability to unlock my locked bootloader.
Problem with that is I will most likely have a new phone by then.
