[Q] ICS Passion v11 - USB not connected - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

everything was working on ICS Passion v10.6 and i updated to v11. After that either laptop or mobile doesn't recognize the usb connection.
when connecting mobile to laptop it is not asking me to mount the storage on phone. when i go to usb tethering option it says usb not connected.regardless of this situation charging through usb is very well happening.
Do i miss something?

Are you using a Samsung data cable?
If that doesn't solve it, your best bet is to just do a system wipe and re-flash.

As claimed the upgrade from 10.6 to 11 doesnt work properly. Now i reflashed 10.6 and usb connection looks good.

Did a wipe again and flashed v11. no luck this time also not recognizing usb. so no computer connection and no tethering

use mobile ap. never really tried usb tethering, mobile ap works just fine. doesn't really answer your question but that works for me.
I guess we're kinda confused... are you wanting to connect (i.e. "mount") your phone to your computer? or are you trying to use your phone to get your computer to connect to the internet (i.e. "tether")? if you want to just tether, you need to enable the mobile ap under Settings>Wireless and Network>Mobile AP> and check the box that says "mobile ap". If you are wanting to mount your phone to your computer, why are you wanting to do it... for odin or just to copy files?
I want to use usb tether to use the internet on my computer because it doesn't have wifi. I tried to plug in play but it doesn't detect anything.

Did you try downloading the sanding vibrant driver?
Works fine for me.

Not your average USB issue

Details : CM7 latest nightly with Siyah Kernel v2.6.12
Symptoms : My PC previously recognizes my phone without an issue (with the exception on when i flashed CM9), I then flashed back to CM7 it was working initially, now my PC does not detect/recognize phone (either nothing happens besides charging or states phone is an unknown device, the latter only happens like 1 out of 20 tries, as it is installing the driver SAMSUNG_ANDROID, it says device suddenly disconnected) even in recovery, Odin can't detect phone. Phone still charges as normal. Phone at times (subject to whether PC states the device is unkown) says there is a USB connection, and still maintains it eventhough i have pulled out the USB cable.
I still am able to transfer files to my phone's internal SD via Airdroid.
Remedies tried : Different PC Port, different computers, cleaned registry via CCleaner, reinstalling Kies & drivers, trying a different Rom & Kernel, cleaning phone's USB port.
Any advice guys? what other possible remedies there is? or is this something besides a USB problem?
Have you tried flashing original firmware to see if the problem persists?

i don't have usb utilities under W&N, maybe cause i am using cm7 which is an AOSP rom? still haven't try the stock ROM method yet, gonna give it a go after class...
Guys just asking, if i flashed the wrong bootloader, could odin still detect my phone in download mode?

lost USB mounting CM9->Sammy ICS

Hey Folks.
Lost my USB mounting and I don't know why. Switched over from CM9 (mounting in windows works without any problems with the recommend driver) but now when I plugged in my cabel, windows can't installed the driver (using LP7 with CFroot).
I reinstalled the driver, choose manualy the driver but nothing worked.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
try with usb debugging mode...
must be your PC issue....put the cable to the direct mother board socket after PC reboot
Also tried it with USB Debugging on and off on every USB port and two diffrent pcs.
having the same problem since using ics r. remix and still cant fix

Nice to see that I am not the only one.
And yes to all others. We could use airdroid but I am not everytime in the same wlan.
aha well, some ICS roms dont support USB mass storage.. which is gay, but it should go back to normal when you flash back to a GB rom... which is wierd. I find many issues are fixed if... DUN DUN DUUUUUUUNNNN you unroot then reroot. This will delete all your shiz, so makesure you have a few CWM system backups saved
You probably know this, but i hope it helps

Could you list what LP7 rom you got (stock?).
Do you mean USB Mass Storage (ICS style) or MTP (GB style)?
I'm on WanamLite v10.7 (also LP7) with Siyah 3.0.1.
I didn't try stock LP7 / CF-Root so I'm not sure what might be the reason in that setup but here everything is working great.
You might want to try to download the latest Kies (even if you don't use it) and get the latest drivers that way - some times helps.
Hey.
Runing this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24753451&posted=1#post24753451
Which is nearly stock...deodexed and so on...
I am running atm the old LP7, now i saw that chainfire released the actual WLP7 (will flash it tonoght).
I mean the ICS mounting method. It is the stock one from this rom.
Kies is a good idea. Will also try it this evening.
Thanks for your help.
How to enable USB mass storage on Android 4.0 ICS Samsung Galaxy S2:

USB mass storage
Hi,
That doesn't seem to work with the latest updates of ICS (4.0.4?). When plugging in the HTC Desire, I get the USB notofication and tapping on that allows selection of mounting the USB mass storage. However, on my Galaxy S2, I don't get the USB notification and so no option to mount USB. Under settings -> More - I don't have any USB utilities.
I'm running CM9 nightly from Apr 13th and Siyah 3.1rc2 kernel. Anyone else?

known issue in the latest AOKP ICS...heard that you can access through MTP
access through mtp
Thanks for the hint about MTP and glad I'm not losing the plot re AKOP known problem....
I had seen the device show up and assumed it was MTP, but there is no indication on the phone that it is connected thru MTP. I didn't want to try anything in case I messed up. Not a pressing issue for the mo, though. I presume the BYT (bright young things) will work this out soon...

New S2 can not connect to PC

I just received a replacement S2 from AT&T, my old S2's USB port went out. I am wanting to root through Odin and get CM9 back on but I can not get my phone to connect to my PC. I have tried on my main PC Windows 7 64 bit and my laptop Windows XP. The phone is running 2.3.6 KK6. When I connect it I see MTP Initialization followed by MTP Connected on my phone, but nothing on my computer. When connecting in Mass storage mode by either enabling usb debugging or through settings -> wirelss -> USB Utilities the phone will just beep when connecting. I've tried the following to fix:
- Installed Kies, Reinstalled Kies
- Installed just the Samsung USB driver
- *#7284# on my phone and made sure PDA was selected under USB. Even switched to Modem then back to PDA.
- Tried removing my MicroSD card
- Multiple reboots
- Tried 2 different cables
- Tried different USB ports
Any other ideas on how to fix?
Try this dude.

First thing I would try is to completely uninstall the usb drivers in Windows, and then reinstall the usb drivers from this thread.
Well...I fixed my issue and want to headbutt a kitten as well. Turned out that I wasn't using a MicroUSB cable that was able to do Data as well as charge. Guess all MicroUSB cables are not created equally. I had 3 that I tried and they would just charge the device. I talked to Samsung and they asked if I was using my "Official" Samsung cable. I thought I was, turns out I wasn't. I went to Walmart and got a cable certified for Data and all is good in the world. Connected to my PC instantly.
So if you are having issues, check to make sure you are using your Samsung cable or one that is certified for data.

usb do nothing but only charging :(

hi guys..
my (rooted GS2 running on stock 2.3.5) do nothing but charging when connected to usb cable
1-tried many cables
2-usb debugging on/off
3-*#7428# method
4-turning on,off ,removing SD card
5-tried different usb ports, different pc, laptops
all don't work (
SOS please..i can't connect the phone to pc ,only by wifi maybe but i wanna use my usb for God's sake ?!
FYI ...I found many people suffering from same issue without answer..help me..help them ..thx
Try different USB ports; use a mainboard (powered) port on the PC/laptop itself, and don't use a hub, not even if it's powered. Also try uninstalling Kies, rebooting, re-downloading it, reinstalling it & rebooting again. You need the drivers, might be a problem around those.
go to some friends with Windows 7 with network access, plug in your phone and see if it recognised by Windows and Windows attempt to install drivers.
I found this at work, i was plugging my phone into a monitor usb which is not directly into the desktop, i found i had to plug it into the pc itself. I believe it to be the power/speed of the port
yeah I've had the same problem, my pc doesn't detect the fact that I've plugged my phone in on any port, front or back and my phone doesn't detect that it's been plugged in, but it still charges, I'm currently using Resurrection Remix 2.4 on the latest Siyah
TIA
