This version has no ATT, White notification text, fixed signal bars, and no FC's! Based on Adeo, so you keep the reboot functionality. This works for me on the new 1.5.2 SBF as well as Adeo. the "newbackup" framework apk is NOT deodexed, and from the new 1.5.2 SBF.
I still need to take new screenshots without the ATT and white notification text, but nothing else changed, so you should be able to use your imagination
New Black Browser (still unfortunately black text and a white text box until I can get apktool to actually build the browser apk).
For those who would like to know, I'm using Launcher Pro Plus, Light Grid LWP, and Beautiful Widgets with the small Super Clock and Simplicity theme with no background. Androdena weather icons.
If you want to revert, please follow the instructions with the framework-old and services-old files renamed to framework-res.apk and services.jar (remove .zip).
For the Black Browser, please just re-run with the backup browser apk.
To install the Browser, copy (cp) your current /system/app/Browser.apk to /mnt/sdcard, then adb push the downloaded apk to your phone in a directory of your choosing, and with root, run cp /path/to/Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apk and reboot.
If you are deodexed, and you follow these instructions to a tee, there shouldn't be issues. No guarantees if not, though I'm running the new SBF non-deodexed, and no issues.
Here are modified instructions copypasta'd from Designgears (thanks man!):
First, Rename the downloaded services.zip to services.jar (due to xda's upload restriction on .jar files).
[/B]
run "Shell Root" from SuperOneClick, wait until it says you have root.
Enter adb shell from command line, You should have root(#) access:
adb shell
Mount the system directory as read/write:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
Make a new directory on /data for your framework file:
mkdir /data/framework
Exit shell:
exit
Then from the directory of the downloaded files, run:
adb push framework-res.apk /data/framework
adb push services.jar /data/framework
Enter ADB Shell:
adb shell
Copy your new files to their proper location:
cp /data/framework/services.jar /system/framework
cp /data/framework/framework-res.apk /system/framework
Reboot:
reboot now
Phone will flash a red led. Just let the phone reboot (it will take up to a minute, so just be patient!).
IF YOU GET ANY READ ONLY ERRORS WHILE INSTALLING, MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN A ROOT SHELL (IF NOT, TYPE SU), THEN RUN THE FOLLOWING BEFORE TRYING THE FAILED STEP:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
nice
i want it
but dammmn its alot of work
I think fastboot might be unnecessary, however for some reason, I've had the best results using super one click every time.
Really, it takes 5-10 minutes, and some copy pasting...I've already done the hard stuff.
Im planning on releasing a shell script to be run in the folder with the files on the phone with terminal emulator, but want to polish the theme a bit more.

synergye, you can remove AT&T from the status bar if you change framework-res.apk/res/layout/status_bar.xml, and carrier length and padding to zero on line 5.
Also, the phone will reboot itself with the reboot now command, it just takes a bit (45-60 seconds). Do that instead of pulling the battery.
Good luck on getting the white text and removing AT&T from the task bar.
Can't wait

I'm actually using Adeo with it right now and still have the reboot option. I would assume this is because I modified the framework-res apk from Adeo.
Thats great, going to install this right now.
Shawn, I've tried droiddraw, microsoft's xml editor, excel, eclipse, wordpad, and notepad won't actually open the status bar xml. What am I missing?
It's a proprietary compiled XML format. To unpack it, you need to use apktool.
http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
Use:
apktool d framework-res.apk framework-res
apktool b framework-res.apk framework-new.apk
IMPORTANT:
Make sure you have the META-INF files inside the new apk. The easiest way of doing this is repacking the apk as something new, pulling out the compiled XML files, then adding them into the original apk.
On a side note, its nice to see an honest representation of what data connection the phone is getting.
I have a question. The data/framework folder we create, is there any reason why we cannot do it from a folder on our sdcard like how we pushed the deodex file over from designgears? Is this just your preference to have it in data or is it 100% required? Just curious cuz after we do all this we will have an empty data/framework folder just sitting there.
There's no reason it can't be in an already existing folder, or just data.
@Sean, thanks for the help, didn't know I'd be using apktool for that.

Thanks. There is a minor typo in your instructions. You forgot a space between CP and / for the service.jar line. You will get a directory does not exist without that space
Copy your new files to their proper location:
cp /data/framework/framework-res.apk /system/framework
cp/data/framework/services.jar /system/framework
Copy your new files to their proper location:
cp /data/framework/framework-res.apk /system/framework

Some reason my signal icons are not showing up properly and stays on white even though i have full bars. also the signal part is still black

Thank you for your correction.I believe this is because I replaced only one set of radio icons, so.if you're roaming, etc, they'll revert. Ill unify them later today. Also, the data portion stays white as if it's uploading and downloading until.it connects.

Another note: after you push framework it will auto reboot, no need to enter in a command. So you push services.jar first, then push framework or else it will reboot before you can do it. Not sure if it will also auto reboot if you push services.jar, but it does with framework-res.apk.
I also noticed that graphics were replaced that were unrelated to the status bar such as graphics for various menu items and popups. It made them have white text on light grey background, which was hard to see. I went through the original framework and compared it with the gingerbread one and only moved over miles that were related to the status bar.
it looks better now, just missing the icons for the signal bars for normal state and also getting rid of the at&t text. Thanks for the mod!

Would changing the images in the framework file work? Or would we need to take any special care? I mean, if we update the images only in the framework file and push that to our phone, would it work?

yeah that's what i did too to replace the images that were misplaced. just change up the images in framework-res, then follow the directions in the OP to push it back in. i did it several times today.
you still gotta be wary of making your own though cuz some of the pngs are .9 extensions, those are tricky. but if you just copying and pasting images from other frameworks over, that should be fine.

Great job, pajoneer, thank you! I do prefer the clear, big numbers of Notification Toggle (see screenshot, maybe it will inspire you ), but your solution saves screen real estate. Thanks also for the clear instructions.
BTW, do you know a possibility of turning off the battery display altogether (thereby again saving screen space)?

Sorry for being dense, but how would I do that?
BTW, I have quickly tried my hand at decompiling and recompiling SystemUI.apk, but I'm not really getting anywhere with the tutorials I've found (after copying the compiled apk and rebooting, there is no notification bar...). Would you care to explain how you did it, pajoneer? Or maybe give me an idea of how to go about changing your apks?

Have tried signing with several methods (including stericsons autosign here, the shortcut method here and with the "official" method here), to no avail. Even if I just decompile your apks and then recompile and push SystemUI.apk to the phone, the notification bar stops working.
Must have done something wrong, but I don't yet know what. With ApkTool, I have followed the usual procedure described e.g. here.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I am using kyanROM and love it! One little tweak I was looking to make was in the notification it has kyanROM along the bottom. I was looking to replace that with my nickname. I am new to modding Android, so any help or tips would be appreciated.
Here are the steps I took and the issues I encountered:
Using NinjaMorph I extracted/decompiled SystemUI
I copied the files over to my PC
Looking through the files (not an exhaustive search mind you), I found one, tw_status_bar_tracking.xml, that had android:text="@string/kyanROM and android:layout_gravity="bottom". This looked promising to me, so I changed kyanROM to the name I wanted to use.
After saving, I copied this file back to my phone and opened the projected in NinjaMorph and said replace the original xml file with my new xml file.
"Finished" the project and closed out NinjaMorph.
Immediately experienced issues. SystemUI stopped working. Rebooting did nothing. So I restored my nandroid backup in order to start over. Back in NinjaMorph, I extracted SystemUI again and copied all files to my PC. Searching the contents of all files (a more exhaustive search) I found 4 instances of the phrase kyanROM:
First was the original in tw_status_bar_tracking.xml and said android:text="@string/kyanROM"
Second is in values\public.xml and says <public type="string" name="kyanROM" id="0x7f0800cd" />
The last two hits are from the same line in values\strings.xml and say <string name="kyanROM">kyanROM</string>
Now, assuming I'm correct that I need to mod SystemUI, after looking at the search results I'm thinking the change I need to make is to the last hit on my search, thus making it <string name="kyanROM">myName</string>. Then, when tw_status_bar_tracking.xml looks for the string kyanROM, it will display myName.
So, am I correct that in order to make this change I need to be in SystemUI? And If that is correct, is my proposed change correct - modifying the strings.xml file to show <string name="kyanROM">myName</string>?
If I do those, go into NinjaMorph and say to replace the original file with my new file I then should see myName along the bottom of the notification dropdown. Thoughts???
So I started over, this time I pulled the SystemUI.apk using adb. Then using apktool I did "apktook if SystermUI.apk". Then, apktool d SystermUI.apk ./mod". Found the file I *think* I need to modify (\values\strings.xml) and replaced kyanROM with myName. Saved the file.
Now I'm trying to recompile the file. I run the following apktool b -f -d mod. When I run this I get the error: Exception in thread "main" brut.androlib.AndrolibException: brut.directory.PathNotExist: apktool.yml.
1) Am I modifying the correct file to place myName at the bottom of the notification screen?
2) How do I fix the PathNotExist error? I've looked at some solutions, but none seem to have worked.
Actually you need framework-res.apk from /system/framework installed through apk tool.
Pull framwork-res.apk and install it as you did for systemui.
After installing framework,type
apktool d systemui.apk
Now make the necessary changes and type
apktool b systemui
To recompile it back.
Note:after you recompile, you need to add meta-inf folder from original apk to your new recompiled apk to make it work.

OK, I think I'm with you.
I need both SystemUI and framework-res in order to modify SystemUI
Install both (apktool if NameOfApk.apk)
decompile (apktool d SystemUI.apk)
make changes
recompile (apktool b SystemUI) but not the framework-res since I made no changes to it
And thanks for the tip about adding the meta-inf folder. I knew this, but since I never gotten that far to test, I'd probably forget to do that.

OK, I installed both - no harm I guess. So I have made all my changes, updated the apk with the meta folder, etc. I'm ready to push this over to my phone. Using adb, do I need to remount or can I just do the following: adb push S:\apk\SystemUI.apk /system/app/
Well, I took a shot and just did the adb push without remount. I think it worked. We'll see if there are any issues moving forward. Yay! Many thanks....
edit: I noticed it reset my wallpaper, easy fix. Wonder if anything else would've been reset by this change?
Hi guys,
I've been doing quite a bit of research and also quite a bit of trial and (all) error. I am currently trying to replace the battery icons in my current SystemUI.apk with battery icons from another SystemUI.apk (both DNA, of course). From what I read, it looks like I need to decompile the SystemUI.apk, but it appears that apktools currently does not work with the DNA. I have also tried just extracting the apk files using winrar, and then just copying the files over, but when I do that I the stat bar disappears and everything is black. I'm curious how you guys are managing to make basic mods like battery icons and transparent stat bar on the home screen when using Nova. I've read that the transparency needs to be done by editing a couple xml files, but the one in res/values is only available when you decompile.
As always, any tips or guidance would be warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
Use 7 zip to drop the new images into the zipped system UI then it will ask you to update archive and say yes. Then flash system ui.
That's the short version.
Do I actually need to flash, or can I just adb push while mounted in recovery?

You can do that as well, my main point was to use 7-zip, for image replacing I personally use zipthemer so I can use my theme on any rom, Each time I install a new rom i just need to run zipthemer on my phone and flash the zip it makes, and walah, themed to my liking.
Ok so i have had NO LUCK whatsoever trying to get this to work. My ROM for the Note 2 is a TW base (people want the S-Pen functions). And they like the AOSP feel so i decided to try and make a ROM that is AOSP themed. Well i have the launcher and a few AOSP themed apps such as the messaging app.
The flashers were very satisfied with my work so far. But they wanted an AOSP themed status bar. Meaning some AOSP battery images wifi and so on. I decided just just replace the EXACT images. I used a cm10 ROM to get the pngs. I also did use the newest Apktool to do it. I did all the framework installation. I decompiled both and started transfering. Here is what i did. I went to the drawable-xhdpi folder in both ROMs. They had pretty much identical png names. But the icons were different (one being the blue theme) so i took the blue icons (battery and wifi) and transfered them to my rom. I made sure that only the pngs with the same names were transfered. so there wasnt any issue compiling.
Next i compiled the APK file.
Then i used my backup systemui.apk file to transfer the META-INF folder to the new one using 7-zip.
Then i went and signed it and used dsixda's android kitchen to zipalign it. Then after all that i pulled that apk from the zipaligned folder and put it on my phone's sd card. I have the root explorer app. I move it to my /system/app folder. It moved successfully. Then i reboot and when it comes back up i dont have a status bar. And my wallpaper is black for a little while and then goes back to the feather thing.
I have tried signing and not signing. Zipaligning and not zipaligning.
I am stuck here. I am really wanting the AOSP themed icons in the status bar. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Try this:
Decompile, mod and compile your apk as usual (don't sign or zipalign the file).
Open your fresh compiled apk, and your original apk using 7-zip (I haven't tested with Winrar, try if you wish).
Drag and drop all the files from your compiled apk to the original one, EXCEPT the AndroidManifest.xml.
Push this new cross-modded apk to your phone and reboot.

i got a systemui.apk from another phone ( xperia arc 2.3.4) which has the same status bar like i do ( droid 3 )

is that because it is from a different phone ( i looks exactly like my status bar ) or it might be a signature problem from android xml ?

You can't do that. Just because they look the same doesn't mean the coding is the same. You are gonna have to add all the missing coding from one that has it to yours. Not an easy task at all

I even tried to copy a status bar from a 2.3.4 rom ( droid 3 ) to my own build ( 2.3.4 droid 3 ) and did not work
I somehow need to edit the status bar, the interface, so that I create the space needed by my toggles and then add them
And after that I need to create a command file so when I click on wifi to turn it off or on for example, right?
Do you know any place for learning coding or some tutorial that could help me in a way or another?

You will need to use a decompiling tool such as APKtool. Then transfer the PNG files from the xperia systemui to the droid3 systemui. Make sure png file names are exactly the same on both systemui's or just rename them to match the droid3 systemui. Also make sure if you have lets say 400 png files in one folder make sure you have 400 at the end of your modding or you will have compiling issues and force closes!
Then use 7-zip to transfer the meta-inf folder to the modded apk file. Zipalign and boom you are done!

So if i understood corectly i'll have to do this
1. Decompile both apks with apktool .
2. Copy all the stuff from framework-res from xperia to my systemui ( or just for the status bar toggles )
3. Transfer meta-inf .
Question : if i transfer meta-inf folder i will copy and replace the original right ? And what is the meta inf actually ? (The command lines for each power toggle ? ( i mean what to do if i click wifi for example ☠)
4. Zipalign .
5. Replace the file in my unzipped rom ( should i unzip it normally or with apktool ) and then zip it and flash it
