[Q] Wifi problem - dropping - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I am currently on Gingerreal 2.0. I can connect to my wifi, but suddenly, somehow after a few minutes the connection drops and then switches back on...It is not a router issue as my laptop and other phone works fine without dropping.

I get the problem sometime.. make sure that your router is not blocked and that your room door is not closed or other obstacles.. this will affect the signal.. just press scan again on the wifi menu and it should work.

No, no , you did not get my point. It drops the connection and then automatically reconnects even if I keep it next to the router.
NOTE: My wifi screen off is set to :Never.

Wifi auto connect

This seems to be a problem with android itself. Wifi never automatically connects to saved networks when in range.
I have to use an app called wifi fixer to monitor my wifi connection- it connects to a wifi network that I have saved when it is in range.
Below were my original questions I posted in the general section by mistake. After a lot of searching I found the folder organizer app can create short cuts to folder or categories for apps. So I can have a short cut in the launcher that goes to all my games, or utilities.
I haven't figured out how to make the cell radio being turned of be persistent. So I just have my device set to airplane mode- but when I reboot it I have to turn the wifi back on.

1. I'm on StreakDroid 1.6.0 and everything is gravy cept for WIFI not connecting automatically. That seems to be a problem with Android itself. For me it is a problem because I'm not using a dataplan because I get free wifi through my cable co. I'm using csipsimple with my old gizmo5 account that I bought with my n810.
2. Does any launcher do app draws? I'm using Launcher pro and it would be nice if I could put a folder in the dock to store all my games.
3. Anyone know if I can use 2 bluetooth controllers with this on emulators? I'm still waiting on my Datel classic wiimote but it would be awesome if I could use two controllers.
4. How do I remove the No Sim card message? I use this as a wifi device and I had it set to airplane mode for a while but then I found the app "any cut" and made a short cut to turn off the cell radio. Apparently if I have it set to airplane mode it turns off wifi by default- and I thought that was the reason why wifi doesn't connect automatically but I still have to manually initialize wifi. I have wifi set to never sleep btw*
5. Turning off the cell radio isn't a persistent setting it seems. Does the cell radio still use battery power if there's no sim card in the device?

Streak WIFI Issues
I am having the same problem. Running 2.2 with 318 baseband. Phone can find wifi but will not stay connected. Phone goes into an endless cycle of connecting and immediately disconnecting. I am able to get WIFI to work by putting the phone into airplane mode. Anyone have a fix??
Are you using the stock rom or dj_steve's? I've heard of people getting disconnected from wifi if the signal is weak. There's a way to turn of data on 3g under wireless settings. I believe that would prevent it from switching between 3g and wifi connections.
I don't really have this problem though. Once it connects to one of my saved networks it stays connected. It's just that android doesn't do this automatically when a saved network is in range.
WIFI Issues
I'm on stock rom. WIFI signal doesnt seem to be in the issue as I have been within 5 feet of the router and had the issue happen. I'm reluctant to turn 3G off as I need it on to make and receive calls in my house via Microcell.
You probably have to change that setting under wifi that puts the wifi radio to sleep when the screen turns off. I have mine set to never.
You may also want to run wifi fixer- which will automatically reconnect you when you get disconnected.
I'm going to try this:

The 2 programs that I use have helped me with my WIfi issues. Its not 100% but it does work 95+% for me.

Try rebooting your wireless router. I have 2 netgear wgr614's. One at home, the other at work. After several connect/disconnects, it goes in the connecting/disconnecting loop until I reboot the router. Go figure...
What I did that seems to have worked is to set up a static IP address instead of having the router assign it for me (DNS). Since then my Wifi connects every time. I could be wrong but it seems to have worked for me.

You mean DHCP not DNS. Mine always connects when tuurning wifi on but if left on and my streaks sleeps for an extended amount of time it will not connect till I turn wiring off then back on. I also have wifi sleep policy set to never. Had that issue with nexus one as well.

S3 not automatically connecting back to WiFi

I’ve recently upgraded from an S2 to an S3 and have a slight issue. When I’m out the house and connected via a data connection (O2 giffgaff) all is great however when I get back home or to a saved wifi spot my phone will not automatically connect to it whilst the screen is off. I have to litterally wake the screen from sleep/lock mode to the home screen where I can see the data connection still on then soon after it will switch to WiFi with the connected confrimation message.
Surley I shouldnt have to wake my phone when coming in range to a saved WiFi point in order for it to connect to it, my S2 never had such issue and automatically connected to saved points. Earlier I went down to the shop and used the data connection whilst there, come back to work and hadn’t woke my phone for about half hour, turned it on and it started connecting to the wireless. The connection still works when the phone is in sleep/lock screen as I still recieve emails etc so it's not cutting of data connections completely when sleeping so I'm a bit puzzled by this, I haven't tested this vice versa WiFi to data but I'm sure there must be a simple setting somewhere.
Any help greatly appreciated.
I noticed this earlier on, I was out all day, returned home and wifi wouldn't auto connect, I had to disable and re enable wifi

It's strange I can't quite work it out, I tested it the other way round and it seemed to automatically connect to mobile data when there was no saved WiFi in range so it only seems to be an issue with auto connecting to WiFi.
I'm going to try a few more tests.

You could try deleting the saved network and adding it again. It has happened to me before and that has fixed the problem.

Problem with cm9 and wifi

Hi i went from stock ics on my ray to cm9 by followingnexact step by step guide provided by cm9. Used their kernel as well. Have never modded my phone before. Having a small problem with wifi though. After my phone has been asleep for a while, if i wake it up the wifi icon in status bar is no longer blue its a dark grey and i can no longer browse anything or use the internet. Ive tried rebooting. I did the whole wipe cache etc when installing cm9. In wifi settings in advanced ive also left the setting to "leave wifi on when sleep" checked. If i turn off and on the wifi connection the phone ofcourse is able to reconnect again the icon is blue and i can connect. It not jsut a one off thing its been happening since i isntalled the rom.
If i wakek from sleep a few minutes later i have no issue with wifi. Its only when its been sleep for a while do i have this issue.
Any solutions?
I have the exact same problem but for me it's even bigger, whenever i turn on wifi on my modem, i can connect to internet on my phone, but after awhile i lose my connection completely, on my phone and on my pc also, the only way to get it back is to reset my router and wait for like 5-10minutes...

If its also an issue with your. Pc then your issue might be also the router.
My other devices actually work fine in my case its oky this phone that has issues. Macbook iphone ipad nexus s no problems with those.
Same issue here. I can see available networks but unable to connect. There should be no problem with the wifi router as all my other devices work well and I have tried another router. Now I have to flash back to stock firmware.

Your issue seems more severe than mine. Mine actually connects and works, just that when it wakes from long sleep it wont work until i turn off and on wifi.
I get this problem too, but my problem even worse than yours. My wifi lose it's connection after a while, but the icon on status bar shows it's connected, running ping test, browse, even play store can't be accessed. I pinged the router and got unreachable.
And yeah, this problem occurs when I'm using all ICS based rom..
Anybody has any idea if this is a known problem, or if its just us few having thisissue?

I have same problem. I have SE xperia mini with CM9. WiFi worked fine until yesterday. Now phone can't connect to AP (full signal - try connect -> signal drops down), but sharing 3G internet over WiFi works fine. I cleared dalvik cache, but that didn't help.

[Q] WIFI issue after updating to Jellybean

is anyone having a problem with the wifi after updating to jellybean for s3?
inital connection to WIFI works but after a certain period of time, the wifi stopped working and i need to restart the wifi again for internet to load. IT happens all the time now after leaving my phone with WIFI on.
Constant restarting WIFI to get connection does not happen in ICS..

No such problem for me with JB LJ5 stock or custom!!!
Might be your modem-router....
This happens to me too. It's fine for me at work, but when I'm at home the wifi fails to connect after some time. Are you using dd-wrt at home? I am and I'm wondering if that's the issue.

I find that having my wifi set to always on in advanced I get better wifi and slow drain, having it on wifi off while asleep makes your wifi keep disconnecting and reconnecting. Best way is to switch wifi off when you don't need it.
Also some battery saving apps I've found to stop wifi and need to keep reconnecting, this has to be changed in the settings
wi fi dropped

Hi, Mine is Galaxy Note 2 i317 with Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I did have similar issue. I took two smart phones to Target, one is ICS 4.0.3 and the Note 2 is 4.1.1.
The 4.0.3 never has any issues with wi fi connection. But the Note 2 keeps on dropping the connection. I ran an application wifi analyzer to check the available networks. It turns out that Target has so many routers that are using the same ssid, i.e. "Target Guest Wi-Fi". There are channel 1, 6, 11, etc, as well as many 5Gs. I did an alias for every available connection. Then I pick one of the stronger signal strength 5G and connected to it.
After that no connection was dropped.
The point is that you should try to connect to the strongest signal SSID so that the Note 2 won't keep on dropping the weak connection.
I have no idea why the ICS 4.0.3 can handle better than the 4.1.1 Jelly Bean as far as wifi is concerned.

I'm experiencing the same problem since updating to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on my HTC ONE X. So it seems to be an Android issue, not specific to Samsung or HTC.
I connect to my home network over WIFI, everything works fine until after a little while my apps seem unable to connect to any data/internet. They just time out or come up with error messages about connection problems.
Sure enough, if I disconnect and reconnect to WIFI, everything starts working again... for a little while.
It's like the WIFI goes to sleep, but forgets to wake-up again.
And there is no indication on the phone, ie. it still shows as connected.

I echo that? It's 3 months later... has anyone figure anything out in regards to this issue?
Mine shipped with JB already. Sometimes, when reboot, it doesn't connect to my WIFI network, unless i disable WIGI connection and re-enable it...

[Q] Force 3G on before leaving WIFI out

Hi,
You probably already noticed that by your self..
When you're downloading something over 3G, and you turn the WIFI on during the process, there is no problem because it authenticates and connects the WIFI network and meanwhile keeps the 3G still alive.. it only shuts it off when the WIFI is completely connected and therefore the download is not hanging off..
Unfortunately it was not programmed backward.
When you are on WIFI and turning off the WIFI to move to 3G, or perhaps when you were at home and now walking away the range and so it automatically disconnects it, so it leaves the WIFI first and few seconds later it trigger the 3G and connect it..
During those few seconds you lose the connection and if you were on downloading process it hangs off..
So I was thinking, why not force the 3G on, connects, and only then, hang off the WIFI..
Any app that can do that? or any developer that might wanna pick up the glove?
I'm sure it will help few others but me..
Thanks ahead!
