In cm7, there is no option to set "proxy and port" in wifi settings=>advanced. It was there in froyo roms. So i was searching for an app which would solve this and i found this app which not only solved this problem but also provided an extra feature.
In some wifis like college wifi etc, u will be able to connect to wifi and browse the internet only in the stock browser or some other browsers also. But u wont be able to use the wifi for market, gmail apps etc. I don't know the exact reason. Someone told me that its related to some ports thing
So the extra feature is that, using this app, we can use wifi for market, gmail etc apps too...
so here's the link: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083284
Thanks to the OP of that thread

Hello everyone.
The Google plus is great. I installed the native app on my NC running n118+300611 OC kernel.
It partially works. Whenever i click the icons at the upper right (make a post/upload photos), the app force close.
Already tried fixing permission but it didn't help/
I wonder if you guys experience the same problem?
is there a workaround to fix this?
I am experiencing the same issue. Nightly 116, OCd 1.3ghz.
Same issue here on 7.1RC1 w/ stock kernel. Report to Google.
Same here, CM7.1 RC1 with latest Dalingrin OC kernel
logcat to the rescue... It's trying to grab location, which crashes a lot of apps the same way.
Workaround.. Tether GPS Lite or some other things. Sucks though.
Google Maps never crashes, but some other random apps do.
This is the same issue that WeatherBug has when it tries to find your location. We probably need some sort of a connection between the WiFi location and the GPS to spoof the GPS with the WiFi location and then stop crashing apps

Soo, like, Tether GPS Lite, or some other apps like Fake GPS, even Bluetooth GPS Provider without a BT GPS nearby works I believe. Anything that pretends to be a GPS.
IMO these apps are buggy. You can't crash Google Maps the same way, nor a few other apps, but lots of (buggy) apps will. I suspect there's some sort of API call to see if there's hardware GPS data before trying to initialize it in the case of Google Maps or other apps which don't crash.
FIX-io! Fake GPS Lite, done. Working. Nice - thanks all!
Yeah I'm thinking Google needs to put out an update for g+. I don't want to have to open another program all the time just to do a quick post. If Maps doesn't crash then g+ shouldn't either.
I'm running CM7 7.0.3 and to get Google + to not FC all I did was enable my GPS and enabled TetherGPS.
late,
Coz
Just tried your method. Worked for me too.
What about doing something like setting up Tasker, Locale, etc to start GPS Tether any time Wi-Fi is on? I figure this would work pretty well, no? Yes, it's a workaround, but a necessary one due to platform limitations.
I also was having FC issues with the app and CM7. I have since gone back to stock 1.2 MN for the moment and the google+ app is working appropriately without any work arounds. It is interesting that a work around is required in CM7 but not with rooted stock 1.2. Why would an AOSP build bork the app?
There're tons of apps for that on the market, but none of them manage to read the file's name correctly.
Ive been using GSaver till recently, when the gmail app got updated and now it doesnt work anymore.
I'll be happy to pay for one if needed..its a feature I really need and use.
Thanks,
Eran
try this. Don't know if it will work. its also in market
http://www.blackmoonit.com/android/attachsave
It doesnt work well, the max it can do is identifying the file type, and even that not always.
Any other ideas?
So, this is one of those problems where I just can't figure it out. I used Absolute System Tools to change my ro.product.model to GT-I9100 and ro.product.brand to samsung so I could play Modern Combat 3 on CM7 3.5. The next day I tried logging into Feedly and my device wouldn't load my Google Reader info and I couldn't access any of the feeds. It synced some header information regarding my "Tech" feed, but no individual feeds loaded. My first attempt to fix the problem was to change my model back to Touchpad and brand to HP, but that didn't work.
I was curious if it was my internet in general, so I logged on Dolphin HD and I connected just fine, I was able to browse any site no problem (No, it wasn't cache). I then noticed that in the bottom right hand corner my WiFi network was reading at "0%" with none of the bars filled. So I reset my router and still couldn't get Feedly to work. I then tried going to the market to redownload Feedly and noticed that the Market wouldn't connect either. I also tested Facebook and it doesn't connect. I tried toggling the Adblocker in Absolute System Tools and that didn't fix the problem.
So the prognosis; I can connect to WiFi, but applications such as Facebook, Feedly, and the Android Market won't recognize my connection. Browsers such as Dolphin HD and the default Android Browser will connect and so will Sync. My info from Absolute System Tools is set back to stock, but something isn't working properly concerning WiFi.
If anyone could post a backup of their build.prop, that might help (Although I haven't been able to properly load a backup save file from AST). I honestly don't know where the save file is, as I'm pretty new to AST, so a little info on that might be helpful.
I'm one step away from using Titanium Backup and formatting to a stock CM7 3.5, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

In my home network I have 3 DLNA servers that allow streaming of all myvids/music.
When connected to wifi on my S3, if i open the Gallery app it automatically searches and parses all files on available DLNA servers.
This drains a huge amount of battery life! and it does this every time the gallery is started.
So far I have not found a way to disable this search or even to limit the servers.
I am running stock everything.
I first thought it was the "All Play" service but disabling it did not help. I know believe it may be a part of the Gallery app itself.
Any thoughts/ideas on how to disable that functionality in the gallery app?
Note- this is not the same as DLNA file sharing. disabling that only disables sharing of files from the s3 to other clients.
This annoys me as well. As much as it is kinda cool functionality to have, every time I go to show a picture of something on the phone at home, it spins up the hard disks in my 2 NAS devices for no reason. An option to turn this off would be great...
I have the same problem. My WD MyBook Live, and media players in the network show up in the gallery and slow it really down. I hope somebody has a solution to this as so far I only can stop it selecting the option "View by" "Content in device" but that can not be saved.
Here is something i have found.
If you select "View By " from the Gallery options menu then choose "Content in Device" it disables the DLNA view.
BUT
only for that instance of gallery.i.e. if gallery app is killed then you will have to choose option again.
Still you only have to do it every time you reboot your phone.
there is another thread just like this that has opped up same section slightly different request.
Ill pop a link from this thread into the other and see if we can get an answer. Have you disabled the media scan function in the wi-fi section?

there is already a thread on the Q&A section about this problem found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704575
You should post in here to collate the information and of course use the search feature next time

The thread you posted was only started yesterday. This one here has been here for a week.
Either way ill jump on the other one and get the guys to jump over and get to answer I know you can remove the image cache but I'm not sure about the continual load because even if you remove the cache it will just keep updating it.
You can also root your device and manually remove the Allshare apk's. but that removes the allshare functionality of course.
I have done this on my S3 and gallery no longer searches for DLNA servers.
I've decided to use BubbleUpnP for DLNA streaming purposes instead.
Any luck?
Just got my S iii and am having same issue. I vaguely remember it asking about dlna upon setup, but I cannot find how to disable it loading pics from my PC every time I open gallery. Battery killer! Btw, there is nothing in the other thread mentioned about this. Has anyone figured it out?

I haven't seen any comments on here in several months, has this been resolved? (Aside from getting a replacement Gallery-style app.)
I'm new to Verizon and have the S3 (Verizon model of course) and have the same problem. I turned off all DLNA settings but the Gallery app still searches. I have Plex Media Server at home (Mac version), so Gallery gets extremely sluggish when I'm home and have WiFi turned on. It's sluggish to the point that I have to slowly enter Task Manager to exit it; no sense even trying to get the "Content in Device" option set because it never sticks and takes almost forever to get to because of the sluggishness.
I also went to the other forum link posted above, but that seems to be talking about WiFi always scanning, not this Gallery/DLNA issue, unless I'm missing something...?

on my rooted note 2 I used rom toolbox to permanently remove anything 'allshare' related, as I don't use that stuff. It resolved my issue with gallery slowing. I have plex installed, but it is not sharing photos.
Deleted.
I think I managed to solve this on my device.
I went into the "more settings" under wireless and network. And into "Allshare cast" when I turned this off my gallery suddenly started working again.
*edit*
Nevermind, it was just for a few minutes. The app started to slow down after I closed and opened it again.

Guys, this is an old post, but the same keeps happening with newer models, and i didn't want to use a third party app. I downloaded an app called DisableService (needs root) and disabled the service SystemService inside NearbyService. The nearby devices list has disappeared from the gallery's menu and the gallery starts up a lot faster. I have yet to try if the gallery will still spin up my nas but i'm very optimistic.

Hi,
Few days back, I start experiencing some Adware issues in my windows machine and windows phone. I have a blog which server Google Ads. Now, If I load my blog or any blogpost and then starts click randomly anywhere, it open a popup to ad.adsmatte.com/rot.aspx?and_some_parameters. I noticed that, I can experience the same problem in any website that servers Google Ads. I suspect this to be an Adware. But, I'm not sure how this creeps into my machine as well as in my windows phone. All the software that I use are genuine and no pirated copies are there in my machine.
But, the most surprising this I noticed is, my Windows Phone is also affected by the same problem. Since, IE in Windows Phone don't allow extensions and has proper sandboxing architecture, then how come IE in windows phone could be affected? I tried resetting my browser in both desktop as well as mobile, but didn't helped at all. Also, I launched the browser in InPrivate mode, which has the same problem too. . I even tried loading the same in FireFox (with AdBlock installed), but has the same problem.
I searched the internet for a solution and came across these 2 links - http://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-g-2014/528571-adware-redirects-most-websites.html, http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=8189. And, I'm surprised by the timing of these issue. Is this a new Adware out-break? Is spreads to all machines connected in the same router, if I got it right.
Is there any fix? How can I get rid of this?
All machines connected to my wifi have gotten Infected with this admatte.com . Condition of my phone is worse , I cannot open any site from any browser as I get instantly directed to this site. It does look like an outbreak , because it has been reported on internet since yesterday only and no solution is working. No anti virus is able to detect this adware. So we really need help.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ad-matte
I am facing the same issue. It infected my PC, iphone and my android. I tried malwarebytes with no luck. The attack is so bad that I am unable to open any article in NDTV app. Did anyone find a solution?
adsmatte
All this started just a few days ago. And yes it infects all the devices connected to the same router. What i observed was if you just try the link ad.adsmatte.com it redirects to google ad services, i dont know what to make out of it though. I have been using adguard extension in chrome and havent faced the problem since the installation. I would recommen you guys to do the same.
enjoy this

best solution worked for me
Got this virus on Firefox days ago, I had tried many means to delete it but did not help. I followed the guides here
removebrowserhijacker.com/remove-ads-by-ad-adsmatte-com-pop-up-how-to-get-rid-of-ad-adsmatte-com-adware
, reset browser setting and remove add-ons, then restart. It did help something.
For Chrome go to Settings--> Advanced --> Do not Track
Start the Do not Track option. This works for chrome browser in android mobile phones
ad.adsmatte prob solved..
I have been searching the prob all over the internet but at last my own intellect got me the solution... Its simple solution for android phones ..just go to wifi menu.. Long press ur wifi id and select modify settings.. In there change DHCP to static Ip and fill in the details as per shown there already.. In DNS type 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and save it.. Its done..No more rubbish admatte ...Such a headache i ve been through for a month
wat prashu posted sounds dandy except that I WI settings on my android - but Save button I not highlighted, and no use anyway
practically, my internet on hone is disabled because of the redirector.
If anyone is having any problems with the advertisement.just move to the router settings and head off to LAN and unselected dns automatically.. Select the dns manually and enter Primary dns- 8.8.8.8 Secondary dns- 8.8.4.4
