[Q] Fuel gauge issues? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So ive seen time and time again that the fuel gauge can be a little wonky on this device, and forgive me if I overlooked it, but Ive never seen anyone post a fix. The issue Im having is that when the full charge notification sounds and I take my phone off the charger, its usually at 96% and I have to plug it back up about 6 more times after the full charge notification for it to read 100%. Ive tried charging it while the phone is off. And clearing battery stats even though I know that doesnt matter on the i777. Is there anyway to fix this?

I usually give mine premium gas so I don't have these issues.
Actually if you've recently flashed give battery a few days use to clear up.

I use the wall socket as well sir lol. I just dont know what else to do. Its been like 4 days since I flashed Illusion-xT with Siyah 2.6.9. What else could be causing this?

Some phones do not play well with siyah try flashing entropy kernel

Our fuel gauge doesn't require calibration, so no need to wait a few days. Sometimes it's just a little bit off, it's actually pretty common for it to drop to 99 or 98 after pulling a charger (especially if the battery was deeply discharged before charging on AC).
96 is a bit low though... I know gokhanmoral was screwing with charge termination recently. That might be the cause.

The only reason I flashed Siyah is that I didnt like Neo's tweaked version that is installed with Illusion-xT. Entropy, your kernel will work with his ROM? Im not using the I9100 Hellraise. Im using his I777 port.

It should work. Hellraiser originally started with a kernel and modem swap.
The other changes (audio libs, keymaps) have to be done regardless of kernel.
You can think of it as "pre-hellraised" with a different I777 kernel.

Awesome. So Im gonna flash your kernel and report back on how it works and if my fuel gauge quits being an ass.

Entropy, your kernel seems to help with battery more than Siyah did. However, did not resolve the fuel gauge problem. Full charge notification went off and when I pulled the charger it was 97. Even after plugging it back up twice it stayed at 97 after it was pulled.

[Q] How do I fix battery status update?

I am currently running Das_Bamf 1.3.2 but I have heard that the problem also exists on the stock rom/hernel.
My battery percentage does not drop over time. Only after I reboot the phone does it show any change. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Try installing battery left widget. Gibes you an accurate picture of what's going on. You will have to start with a full batteryband run it all thebwaybdown to calibrate.

I don't really want to be forced to install a widget on one of my home screens just to know what percent my battery is at. I would like to figure out why the status bar indication isn't updating. It was working when I first got the phone.

I agree. I had the same problem with Das Bamf. I don't see anyone else really complaining about it and my post was basically overlooked when I asked about it in the thread for the ROM. I ended up just switching to the new version of thunder and lightning and all is well. I'll give Das Bamf a try again when it's working.

are you using the extended battery? I am and I am seeing the same problems but I have flashed back to my original root stock rom with the htc kernel and still seem to have the problem. I may have to try thunder rom if the battery does work
Stock battery. I have tried a wipe and that didn't fix anything. So far I have no real idea what might be causing it since it seems to be happening on different roms including stock as well as kernels.
I was having this issue with VirusROM for the first week or more that I ran it because I didn't flash on a full charge (stupid me)... It also dropped from 100% to 90% in about 10 minutes when it did drop without rebooting - not sure if you have that problem. I resolved all of this by bump charging. There's a workaround for the CWM issue that I followed in another thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016508 ... ie. charge with your phone booted; reboot, charge, reboot, charge, etc. until you are at about 99% when you reboot. Then just wipe your battery stats and use like normal. I didn't think that it had worked permanently until a couple days later when my battery was recalibrated. I'm running the same kernel as those of you on Das BAMF if you didn't change it so I hope this helps you as well. Basically after I did this it only dropped 2-3% on reboots when not fully charged but I believe that is normal since it takes a lot of power to boot the phone up completely. Hope this helps.
Edit: Wanted to point out that after I wiped my battery stats I didn't reboot all the time to see if it was dropping since I figured that would affect calibration. Ran it until it died on normal use and got a lot longer battery life than stock, which makes me question as to how "accurate" it actually is after rebooting. Just a thought.
could you also just re flash on a full charge?
I don't think so, because your battery may not be at 100% if it says it is, which is why you would have to bump charge.
Ah, I see.
Well I think it worked. Thanks a ton!

FWIW, I'm on the extended battery and stock ROM and there's no issue that I can observe in terms of the percentage not dropping/reporting properly.
Most of this stuff seems like urban legend and placebo effect to me.
Does anyone have any documented (by Google) evidence that any of this "battery calibration", "batterystats.bin wiping", "only flash roms on 100% charge" stuff is legit? If not some documentation on the OS, then some actual controlled testing with data that supports these concepts as legitimate?
I mean something that documents how batterystats.bin operates and what it controls and doesn't.
My understanding is that the batteries themselves have integrated circuits that control the battery's charge. Surely this can be communicated to the phone (how else does the phone know the voltage being supplied as it diminishes?).
Seems that an intelligently designed OS would take advantage of the battery's own reporting and just go by its charge status rather than come up with some silly scheme that involves the phone using batterystats.bin to control it; especially when, if the urban legends are actually true, that file is so easily confused and needs to be wiped so often. Gr
I see where you are coming from and agree that testing needs to be done but bump charging and deleting battery stats got my battery notification to start indicating again

[Q] SGS2 battery drain

Latest SiyahKernel with stock rooted ICS 4.0.3.
Now, this has happened twice in the last week. I unplug the phone from my charger and place it under my pillow for the alarm to wake me up, and go to sleep. I disable both data and wifi so that twitter won't update and wake me up prematurely. Then, I oversleep about two hours, and what wakes me up is the phone that's EXTREMELY hot. The alarm doesn't go off and the battery is completely drained.
I have no idea what drained the battery and why the phone was that hot (I couldn't hold the phone for more than two seconds before I started experiencing pain). I've tried searching, but there were no topics like this one. So does anyone know how I can fix this?

http://cow.neondragon.net/index.php/how-to-resolve-poor-battery-life-battery-issues-on-android
Thanks for the answer, but even after doing everything there I have the same problem.
A few days ago, I was able to "intercept" the process.
I had just used the phone, and put it away. Then after no more than ten minutes, I noticed it getting extremely hot. When I tried unlocking the screen, the phone had frozen, so I had to pull out the battery to turn it off. When I put the battery back in again and turned it on, the battery level was down from around 80% to around 60%. The battery graph showed like vertical drop, so it was clear that it had happened within those 10 minutes.
Is there really noone who has had this problem before?

Try N.E.A.K ICS kernel. I had some really good results with aokp rom. It's compatible with Samsung rom as well I think. Check it out
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I'd be more worried about it setting my pillow alight
Steps.you could try:
- Wipe all data (Optional maybe an app conflicting with something)
- Update kernel or change rom to CM9 or any other stock
- If none of those work try an different battery
*I believe its an well wakelock had this when i was using siyah 3.1 Rc 1-5*
~Blizz™;
I had roughly the same problem. I did a full wipe and installed a custom from and changed the kernel... everything works perfect then. One of my friends finds taking his battery out every few days works best. Try both and see what results you get.
Sent from my GT-I9100 running ics resurrection v1.4 using xda app
I would have to guess that it's either the kernel or the battery calibration. Are you using a third party battery? I think with the original samsung batteries, this must not be as much of a problem (I have never owned an original samsung battery for my S2, sadly). I know that with my fake Chinese super-cheap "2150mah" battery, which somehow is small enough to fit in the original cover which makes me think it's more like 1350mah, I have gotten horrible battery drain problems for basically no reason. But, after following the thread where it was explained to charge to 100% and then take the battery out, wait three minutes, and put it back in, I've had the phone stay at 100% for over four hours, with wifi, syncing, and all that turned on.
I should mention that I sometimes also have had this problem where it seems to be charged, then for some reason it drops to 20%.
If your battery is third party, make sure you calibrate it. I've also noticed that the more roms I flash, the worse my battery life is, so I'm trying to resist the temptation of flashing something new every twenty minutes.
Good luck.
/proc/last_kmsg
Use it.
You could try downloading Better Battery Stats and hope to identify the wakelock or app that's draining the battery. If it's not either of those and you haven't always had an issue with it under your pillow, I'd say it's time to try a wipe and new rom and if the problem persists even after that...hardware problem.
Have you been able to leave it under the pillow previously? Part of me is wondering if the overheating itself is affecting the battery and causing it to degrade though I doubt it should happen so quickly and in such an odd fashion as you're experiencing.
After a bit more tinkering and testing, I'm almost 100% certain that it's the kernel, as it was the only thing "constant" in my testing. I reflashed over and over. I also think it has something to do with the wifi, since when wifi's off, my phone is fine and doesn't get touched by the described bug. So right now, I'm waiting for SiyahKernel 3.1 to be released while keeping wifi off.
On the changelog for RC6, it says that the "battery drain issue" is fixed, and on the changelog for 3.1, it says "new wifi drivers", so I'm assuming it'll be ok once the 3.1 is released. Thanks for all your replies and help.

battery issue

Hey guys! Last night i put my phone to charge (about 2AM) when i came home and when i got up at 5, it said fully charged so I unplugged it. Soon after (Maybe 2 mins) i noticed a drop on the battery bar. When i went into Settings>About Phone>Status (ANDROID 2.3.6), the battery readout was 91% and it said the battery was being used for 0H 3M 23S. Plugging back in the phone (USB or WALL) results in the same behavior
I am currently running down my battery and will proceed to charge it up and hopefully calibrate it. Can any of you provide any insight as to what may have caused this issue? And are there any fixes in case the calibration does not work? I kept searching around but I couldnt find my exact problem listed and therefore i couldnt get any answers
All help greatly appreciated Thanks ^_^
Flash Siyah or Dori Kernel, and then you can do a reset on the Fuel-Gauge chip in Extweaks. If that doesn't work it's maybe a hardware problem and you probably have to replace your battery...
I've read in other fora and have been convinced that Battery Calibration does not work, since in every cycle (or whenever the battery is charged up to 100%), it somehow "resets" or auto-calibrate or something..
Perhaps flashing another kernel would be a good idea..
But nonetheless, you may try BetterBatteryStats to check what's consuming power..

Battery problems after fleshing custom rom

Hello. I got a lot of problems with my battery. It was all fine until i rooted and flsahed a custom rom. I flsahed jellybam and wiped cache data battrey stats and everything before. I get a lot of random shut downs and reboots and battery percentage drops. Sometimes its at for example 80% and i don't use it its in my pocket and it just shuts down. Or it sais it has 30% 40% and i receive a call or sms and it gets to 1% and shuts down and when i turn it on it has again 30 40% or slowly gets to that percentage. I tried aokp, jellybam, rainbow rom (something like that) rootbox and tried dorimanx and siyah kernel. Now i went back to stock rom and krenel but the problems are still there. I attached a pic of my batt stats so pls if anyone knows what could be the problem please help.
Edit: i tried calibrating the battery with an app and manualy shutting down the phone charging the phone to 100% and remove the battery a few minutes but that didn't change a thing

Sorry for the late reply i had some other stuff going around. I tried resetting the fuel gauge chip with extweeks while on siyah kernel and that didn't change anything, i tried a few more roms and kernels but the problem remains. Now i am on resurection remix 4.0.4 rom with flexy kernel and i tried reseting the fuel gauge chip with xxtweeks and again nothing changed. I guess this is a problem with the phone becouse with different roms/kernels the problem is the samo. Lately its getting worse. The phone is on the table with 80% battery and i just hear the low battery sound and when i unlock it its on 12%, and than goes to 5% and lower and shuts down. After restart it has again around the normal 80% for example. Also one day i charged it to 100% and as soon i unpluged the charger it dropped to 0% and shut down. Could it be the battery or is something seriously wrong with the phone? Thx in advance

Could be the battery.
Just try another battery from which you know it is working in your phone, and then try your 'faulty' battery in a phone from which you know it is working. This way you will know at least if it is the phone or the battery.
Thanks for thr replay. I guess i‘ll just buy a new battery and see how that goes because i don't have a spare s2 and battery to try

Sgs3 charging problem (takes too long charging)

Hello.
Recently I started to have a weird problem with my Sgs3. It takes way too long to charge. And when I say too long is like, I go to bed at 1am with 9% battery and it charges all the night and at 8 am when I wake up was at 85%, just happened today these stats.
The problem I have noticed is, back when it has no problems charging it just goes into deep sleep to charge and usually was good in about 2 to 3 hours. Now, every time I charge my cell phone never goes to sleep, in the battery screen just appears it as active (with screen off) all night long when I plugged it into the charger. And there's the problem, some days it just charges normally and others I get this problem. Been trying to know if is something I do to make this problem but I just can't find it and I need help. I wiped dalvik cache, hard reset, everything and still the same.
I'm using última rom 9.0.1 (same problem with 10.1 and 11,I just like 9.0.1 better so I put it back) with siyah kernel oc 1.6ghz.
There's an screen of my battery. Notice its active with screen off and was charging ok, and suddenly just started to charge wayyyyy to slow, happening tons of time this.
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post, I searched for a problem like mine and didn't founded, just ppl with no charges at all.

As you've got Siyah, try setting the charge current up a notch.
CyanogenModded Very China-like, from my Samsung Galaxy S III
LG Familyguy59/Beatsleigher
looks stupid, but, samsung original cable seems to be bad for charging, the opposite, only samsung cables are good for data transfer, try to charge with another cable (I use a sony one) luck
In general it looks like indeed Samsung's cables aren't well-made and after some time they're losing some "power".
Luckily we have an international USB standard (micro usb?) for SGS3 so you can try really different chargers, from cameras, other phones, headphones etc.

Sometimes the issue is with the charging port also. Like, if I use a multi-plug or an extension board then my SGS3 also charges very slowly, even if there's no other device connected on multi-plug or extension board. You can still try Galaxy Charging Current app from Google Play Store and check your phone's charging current when you're charging your phone. It should be near 1000mA as that is the stock value.
Hit Thanks if I deserve it :good:
---------- Post added at 12:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:44 AM ----------
Also, it maybe possible that since you are on a custom rom and not all customs roms are stable. So, it might be possible that with your rom, there may be some bug which isn't letting your phone go to deep sleep mode properly when it's charging. Try reflashing stock rom & kernel to rule out software as your problem.
