30 pin to Micro USB - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Accessories

Curious to find out if this adapter would work on the p6800.. It is said to work with p1000, but i am not sure if it will work with the p6800..
I always have a micro usb cable around for my Galaxy Nexus.. If this works i can leave the proprietary Samsung 30 pin cable home and just carry this small adapter.

Update - The item is no longer on eBay....

I was wondering... We get this 30-pin male to usb male connector... can we use a usb-male to usb-female connector instead of a direct 30-pin to female connector?!

I bought one of these for my 7.7 and it works fine. It ONLY charges. It cannot be used for data.

Search ebay for "Micro USB Laden Dock Adapter" to get another version of the 30 Pin to micro USB Connector. But again: only charging - no transfer

I got one of these. works great for charging through any micro usb charger, even my usb car charger with a micro usb cable plugged into it.
i got one to try then after i made sure it worked ordered 3 more. home, car, office etc etc
http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=2420

I ordered a few of these to work with my older GTs (original, 7 Plus). They've all worked fine with each. I use them with a retractable usb to micro usb cable to lessen the amount of chargers/cables/portable batteries i need to carry (one set will serve my phone and my tablet and just swap out the ends.)

Both work for me also. USB and uSD. Data transfer and video. Haven't tried charging though. Got mine on eBay. Keep an eye out. They'll return I'll bet.

OEM not working on my P1010

mini to micro USB adapter

I just received these a few days ago and they work great. I have purchased a motorola one and another ebay one last year but both of them when I plug into my Evo 4g or Ev3d I have to move it around to charge. These have longer and more solid micro connector and I don't have to move them around at all. I bought 10 of them and all 10 work great. The only thing I don't like over the previous ones is that it doesnt have a string or rubber band to tie it to an existing mini usb chargers or sync cables.

Any questions on them let me know.
Why even deal with these? Just get new micro usb cords from monoprice.

Because I have multiple AC chargers for my older phones that I can use at home and work to charge my Evo. Also being able to reuse my older car chargers is a plus. at $1 a pop it only makes sense to reuse those chargers rather than buying new ones. PLUS you can take the adapters out and it goes right back to a mini connector. Just in case you have other devices that still uses mini usb. Not everything is micro usb yet. And specially great if you have good quality chargers you can reuse than buy cheap chargers with cheap circuitry.
100% agree. Monoprice has these go on sale all the time for like $1 or $2 for a 3 pack so i buy them every time. I have tons of mini usb stuff from older phones, no need to buy all new chargers and you have the option of using it for multiple devices (mini/micro).
It also comes in really handy for PC's, i have a mini USB cable connected to my PC that just sits under my monitor for when i need to connect USB hard drives or any other sort of devices and then i just attach the micro adapter if i want to connect any micro devices.

Is the monoprice ones better? I know I bought a motorola one and a few ebay and some i think at daydeal but all of them the micro usb connectors were junk. Had a hard time keeping my phone charged up when I move it around.
I too have mini usb cables on all my pcs home and work along with wall chargers. You never know when you'll run out of battery power specially for us whos always flashing roms. lol.

confused about USB cable

it seems that some people on the forum say they have a standard micro USB connector on the Flyer??? and most of the ebay sellers list standard micro usb products for the HTC Flyer
MY connection is a proprietary one - it looks like a micro usb but has a 'step' in it
like this one...zoom in on the picture
http://www.expansys.com.au/htc-flyer-data-cable-dc-t500-extmicro-usb-12pin-white-209995/
wtf is going on?
Try it, you will like it, except for charging.............
try what? what will i like? what about the charging?
off the shelf micro usb works fine.
The proprietary style is only for charging
If u have a micro usb cable then u have to put it in the opposite way. Like this

It's a generic micro USB connection. The extra's is just that, extra. And not mandatory. I read somewhere (could be here, could be somewhere else) that they made the different connector so you wouldn't use the charger on a device that can't handle the power. But you can use any micro USB cable to connect the device to your PC. And you can even use any micro USB charger, but you'll need a lot of patience as it'll take a long, long time!
While you can use a standard micro USB cable, I have heard it would be better to use the HTC one because it will stay in better. I have used a standard one just fine, but the HTC one does hold in better IMO.

Its both proprietary AND standard. As vj092887 said, you insert the micro-USB male plug "upside-down" from how you would on most HTC devices. And it plugs into the "bottom half" of the jack. All this is in respect to the tablet laying flat, with the screen facing up.
If you use the included charger or sync cable, it takes up the "whole" jack. Sync doesn't really make a difference. But the included charger is much faster than standard HTC Micro-USB chargers.
jeebus on a swizzle stick, only after reading this did i actually shove a standard micro usb into it and i'll be damned.....

Shortly after I got my Flyer, I was at work and wanted to connect it to my laptop. And realized I had left my (HTC) cable at home, sticking in my PC there. I was also kind of disappointed as I had bought the flyer specifically because you could use a micro USB cable!
So, I thought, well, why not try it and see if it fits. And as I generally always first try to stick a cable in upside down (don't ask me why, even if I think about it, I'll try it upside down first ), I got lucky this time and found it fitted

i NEVER put in cables upside down (because i always put a little dot on the top side of the connector using nail polish...you can use liquid paper for a more 'manly' experience)
Is there a source for an innexpensive extra cable? I've been using a standard micro USB and it works but feels very loose compared to the official HTC cable that came with my flyer.

If you mean with a HTC style power connector, no, that's for charging only. For data cables Ebay or Amazon has them for about $1 each.

I wouldnt buy those generic cables from ebay/amazon etc they are poorly made and can either break off in your device, break off the connector on the device, or short out.. I highly recommend getting either Motorola or HTC OEM cables. They cost $2 - $5 but its worth it.

Does this mean that the MHL adapter with 5 pins will work (standard Micro USB), and I don't need the 12 pin MHL version (extMicro USB)?

yes! but apparently it charges really slowly so microUSB is best left to data transfer only

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Although a standard micro USB connector works for me when transferring data I don't like how loose it seems in the Flyer's socket. So I want another cable just like the one that came with my Flyer, a micro ExtUSB cable. I've only found mini ExtUSB cables not micro ones, hence my request for an inexpensive cable source.

there are no inexpensive extUSB cables...i don't know where you are but try expansys or amazon in your country...they're all upwards of $20
There is no 3rd party source for the non-standard HTC proprietary connector.
HTC manufactured Windows Mobile and Android-based devices have a proprietary connector called HTC Micro ExtUSB (Extended USB). ExtUSB combines Micro-USB (with which it is backwards-compatible) with audio input as well as audio and video output in an 11-pin connector. The extra pins also allow for higher charging currents.
If you really want to spend on a high quality cable, here you go, the best, most expensive per foot USB micro cable in the world . For ~$25 this should keep your Flyer and small pets from bursting into flame............

By the way, all the generic or other brand MHL adapters work fine with the HTC for connection to HDMI.

Extension cable for MHL Adapter?

I have a MHL Adapter and I get video just fine. Now I want to be able to sit on my couch while i use the adapter. Seems to me the simplest way would be to use a 15-20 foot Micro USB Male - Micro USB Female extension cable.
Does anyone have any experience with such a setup? Do you have a recommendation for such a cable?
TIA!!
Why micro USB? You can get a HDMI cable as long as you might want (Monoprice is particularly good). If it's not enough you can carry a HDMI signal over a single or (simpler to find) two CAT5 cables w/ RJ45 jacks for hundreds of feet.
I guess the thought was that if I have the Micro USB Extension, then it's one thin lightweight wire that has to travel across the floor.
If I did HDMI, I'd still have to be near power whereas with Micro USB, I could set the power adapter, and HDMI, and MHL Adapter all together and then have a thin and lightweight wire traveling across the floor.
But if it's not possible, (micro USB limitiation??) then HDMI it would have to be.

If the micro USB works it would be much cheaper than a comparable length hdmi cord.

Just bought 10 feet on amazon! Lovely!

I wanted to do exactly this - extend the cable but at the micro-USB end to avoid having the Micro-usb power supply line and the bulky MHL adaptor all where the phone is - much cleaner to just have a thin cable coming out of the phone and headed towards the TV.
I did get hold of a micro-USB extension cable (2m/6ft) but unfortunately it does not work. Directly plugging the phone into the MHL adaptor works perfectly, as soon as I insert the micro-USB extension it doesn't work. I need to have a closer look to check the pins are populated etc, but not sure why this would be an issue - don't think it can be signal strength and if all the pins are populated I don't see why the adaptor would care.????
Any thoughts?
Micro B USB extension not working
I, too have been trying to figure out why an extension cable doesn't work the way you think it might. Today, I tried cutting my 6 foot cable, first making sure I had the right power leads working. Then I went through all the possible combinations of connections to see if one would work. None do. I'm at a complete loss on this wondering what I should try next.
Thanks for info....similarly baffled but at least you have ruled out something!
Like the other guy said, get your x for of hdmi cable, then just plug your AC charger in where you are. Mhl might use additional connectors/pins/whatever vs micro USB. Or you can go totally wireless and use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
Also I remember I had a charging issue with an extension. Sometimes one product works better than others. I can't charge my phone with my 20 dollar AC charger from best buy since the ICS leak. It's weird. Hdmi cables are pretty uniform, I would just extend that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Yes, that works, always has, but that's not the point. Would rather have just one long cable connected to the phone in front of the TV rather than three cables, the device and the phone in a kludge setup.
A partial answer
This allows connecting 6 feet away with a thin, flexible single cable..Also cheap, but shipping takes 15 days.

I took apart the two cables and the USB has four wires while the MHL cable has ten.
are the mhl wires easily extendable themselves by splicing? I'm thinking strip out a few usb cables and use the wires? Or just go purchase some extremely thin gauge wire (22 gauge) and make it yourself?
Micro B USB extension not working
The Micro B USB connector only has 5 connections, so there is no way you can connect 10 from the MHL cable to it, so something else is going on.

I bought splices and thought about extending the cable. It's possible.
galaxy s3
I did wanted to do the same but the extension cable didn't work. I looked at the connecting points and felt that the micro usb from Mel adaptor is to bit longer than usual so I thought that may be the reason and I shorten it resulting damaging my Mel adaptor itself. Now I am going for allshare cast wireless hub. So everyone please don't try to cut the micro usb pin from your adaptor or u will better decide to for my option to for complete flexibility.
I want to do this EXACT same thing but slightly more extreme:
I want an MHL adapter with 10-25 feet of micro USB cable on the end so I can use it from anywhere in my living room.
Is there any such cable/adapter?
Why do all MHL adapters come with only a 5 inch cable??? It is maddening!
*bump* I am looking for this too.. but I have a reason slightly different.. I have an AppRadio in my car that I connect my phone to. The MHL cable end is rather bulky and does not fit into the opening of my otterbox that is on my phone... most microUSB wires fit into the opening just fine.. Taking my phone out of the case every time I am in the car is rather ridiculous so I bought the micro USB extension (bought a 6" one).. didn;t even register except to charge... So, and ideas would be greatly appreciated..

30-pin splitter?

Anyone know about a splitter that will take the 30-pin input and let you use one side for the 30-pin power adapter and the other side for 30-pin accessory like USB OTG pigtail?
I'm in the same boat,
Search and search but nothing,
You get USB to 2 30-pin but nothing for 30-pin to 2 30-pin adapters
The only option you have is to buy a Galaxy Tab break out board from Kinetica and solder your own cables to it..
What do you want to use at same time?
It would be nice to run external power while having an accessory plugged in such as the SD or USB drive or keyboard. I have 2 USB keyboards that have the pointing device built into it.
look in m y post in the make your own cables thread.
i added power to the odks circuit board and can watch movies via hdd at same time as charging.
easier way would be use the breaK out board though..
I have the connector parts, just I have to know the pin assignments...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065&page=11
Look at this thread..
Try my post first one before this page..
It explains it..
pin 7 is the posative 5v @2amps...
pin 30 is the earth..
(this is how i run it in car connected to 2 amps 5v source)
works well and if start close to 100 percent battery power leave it plugged in it doesnt drop anything even after watching 4 movies in a row still is 100 percent.
eventually i disconnected it to let the battery drop down alittle as not sure if good to keep it at full charge?
Maybe the best way would be try to follow my dock mod?
that way you can just use the 30 pin usb adapter and add a powered hub.
havent given an update on "line out" output as my usb adapter is covering it up
the outlet socket.might consider opening it up again and finding out if works then relocate the 3.5 stereo socket outlet.maybe could just solder some wires to it inside and add a new output some where else more accessable..

Havent seen that cable before...anybody tried it?
Just curious IF and HOW it works...
I modded my dock to accept charge and host at same time but only triggers charge when hdd is connected whilst power applied.
I've got one from ebay. But its very poor quality. Its functionality is OK, but you cannot charge the Tab. External power is used to power the USB devices. It switches between internal Tab 5V and external 5V when applied. It ok with USB hdd that needs power.
o.k. thanks..
Cant help but wonder about the possibility of using it as charging and host at same time by using different resistor than 20k.not sure if you guys seen the thread about host and charging on galaxy s3 (hw mod) but they discovered a different resistance value 40.2k that could make the power part of the usb travel in both directions at the same time allowing this to happen...
im thinking the same could maybe happen for our 7.7 tab.

Micro-USB plug hub with Ethernet

Does a micro-USB hub with ethernet that has at least 3 USB ports exist? I despise chaining a bunch of dongles, so I'd like to see if an all-in-one solution exists:
- micro-USB cable attached to the dongle so it can plug straight into the GNP
- Ethernet port (my experience is that wifi sucks on the GNP)
- 3 USB plugs for flash drive, keyboard/touchpad combo, Flirc.
The closest I found is this Samsung dongle (the price used to be $25 but it went up, can still be found around $17 on ebay shipped from China though), but it only has 2 USB ports and I'm not sure that it would actually work with the GNP:

(may be an excellent solution for someone looking just for 1-2 USB ports)

It would be great if it had a micro-USB connector rather than a standard one, to avoid yet another adapter cable.
I dont think that will work. My friend got one and I plugged it into my tablet that has a standard USB slot and ethernet didn't work. I bought a USB (standardsize) to ethernet adapter works fine on my tablet. Now I need a standard to micro adapter
