Hi Everyone,
I have just joined Giffgaff in the UK as service provider. They use O2 network so they are classed as a "virtual provider" as far as I know.
I have entered the APN info in order to get on the net and send mails and all works great. But, I cannot send MMS.
>there is no place in the OS to enter MMS details
>on MSFT site it said that the phone will read the SIM on first boot assuming ADC is enabled.
>I reset the phone and still no MMS
> I ring Nokia and they tell me that ADC is in fact enabled in unlocked Lumias.
>how can I check this?
>others say to install the network setup app but I can't because I don't have the very latest firmware
>some have tried this and now say that Giffgaff is not in the drop down menu so therefore can't be used.
So, as I am chevron unlocked, is there any way to change registry settings to ensure that ADC is enabled and therefore hopefully read the info from the sim card?
As long as your phone is debranded the handset should read the SIM card settings after a hard reset.
You should also be able to install the Network Setup app once it is released again (hopefully soon) after it was taken down to be updated.
If your phone isn't debranded then hard resetting won't help and you won't be able to install the Network Setup app. You won't even be able to see it in the Marketplace.
See this thread for more information on debranding.
See this thread for more information on Network Setup app/MMS/ADC.
Thanks for this great info. My phone was bought from Clove and is supposed to be unlocked. There is no branding other than Nokia. The problem is, I think, the fact that ADC may not be enabled even though it is unlocked. I called Nokia to make sure and they told me that all unlocked phones had ADC enabled and it was only carrier phones that had this functionality disabled. I somehow do not believe this.
If auto data config is not enabled then the info on the sim, card canot be read. And I reset my phone in the hope that I could get the MMS details this way but no success. I have read elsewhere as well that even I can get the network setup app from marketplace it will still not work because Giffgaff are not included as a service provider at this stage. Oh, what to do. WHy could MSFT not have given us this functionality within the OS in the same way as our old winmo platform.:-(
Network Setup app has been available for awhile already, at least for me. I just received an update for it through Marketplace this morning.

Network setup is not even in my marketplace because I am running 11451 firmware and it is only available in th every latest firmware (according to Nokia). And anyway, even if I had network setup available to me there is no mention of Giffgaff as a provider so I still cannot get MMS settings on my unlocked Nokia Lumia 800. What we need is either a MSFT update allowing us to change MMS settings or Nokia to include Giffgaff on their app. I think its that simple.
The network setup app came avalible today in the UK.
It would install and run but still couldnt send MMS on a vodafone branded device, so ive just debranded and its all working fine.
So i can now send and recive MMS
We need to get Giffgaff included on Nokia network setup app; simple as!

Hi Guys!
All we have crossed Battery Issue.... just like I faced. I managed to found a good message released by some one on Internet today.
Sorry for no able to post outside links, The site is http: //blog.walshie.me/2010/11/15/htc-mozart-telstrabattery-issues-solved/

Updated: HTC Mozart & Telstra–Battery Issues. “SOLVED”!
with 40 comments
Since the Mozart was released in Australia about 3 or 4 weeks ago, there has been a public uproar about the battery performance. Sometimes I haven’t been able to get 6 hours out of a fully charged battery with push email on.
I’ve been working with a technician from Telstra for the last 2 weeks debugging the issues. The root of the cause has come down to the way the Phone is configured to operate on the Next G network. By default, the phone uses the telstra.wap APN (Access Point Name) to connect you to the interwebs. Now the telstra.wap APN allows you to access internal telstra services like Mobile Data Usage & MyBill etc.
The “issue” isn’t one that “we” fully understand at the moment, it could be a configuration issue on the Telstra network or a software configuration change on the device. But Telstra understand the issue and are actively working to get a fix.
A workaround is available for all those who can’t wait for a ROM upgrade. All you need to do is add an APN in the “mobile network” configuration settings. The APN is “telstra.iph”.
Now this APN is specific to devices that require PUSH email & use a fair amount of data. The APN transparently proxies all your HTTP & HTTPS traffic over the Telstra network and improves the battery life 300%! I went from 6 hours to over 24 hours battery life.
To set the APN, go to Settings > mobile network. Scroll right to the bottom and click “add apn”. In the APN box, type “telstra.iph” and click the tick icon in the Application Bar.
Now, this is by NO means a permanent fix. What this does is provide a temporary solution for us while Telstra & HTC work on a fix.
The only “issue” with hard setting this APN, you can no longer get to the “My Bill” part of the Telstra Portal, you can still see “my data usage” and everything else.
Update: While hard setting the APN fixes the battery issue. It appears it stops people from purchasing apps via your Telstra bill. This is because the default proxy inserts billing identifiers as headers when you click “buy” via the Marketplace app on your phone. Now you”re using a DIFFERENT http server (the iPhone specific ones), which don”t know about the Windows Phone marketplace headers. To get around this, click the “change payment method” link before you click the buy button. This will give you the option of registering a new credit card.
Best Regards

Ok, I'm using a Telstra Mozart with an AT&T SIM card. Will this work for me? Usually if I change the APN I lose my service.
I have flashed the TMob_AT ROM by Ansar
Thanks for posting a 4 month out of date fix for a SPECIFIC issue only on TELSTRA to do with their APN, which was fixed months ago.
This post is totally useless and in fact incorrect as was resolved in December.
If anyone changes their APN because of this post, they are idiots.

No, don't change it, you are not using Telstras network, and if you are they fixed it months ago.
I really have no idea why the OP pasted it here, pure stupity.
It was regarding an issue with the TELSTRA NETWORK NOT THE PHONE.
Do not use these settings if you are not in australia and on telstra. It will not work anywhere else in the world, and it has been resolved locally. Does not help in Aus any more either.
@OP [original poster] does your phone work with that APN change? probably not! while your enthusiasm is valued, misinformation is not! Test before you post!
Just letting everyone know, I've got 7740 update on my Titan today.
Unlocked, SIM free - UK.
It says:
It fixes email issues when forwarding email and also fixes voicemail issues - I never noticed there were issues with them. But update is always goood!
It's a 10 step update.
No changes to firmware or bootloader. Seems like minor OS update. Nothing new with speed or performance as others mentioned in different posts.

HEADS UP!
Before anyone rushes into updating phone please back up as many things as you can. Update doesn't cause any issues to data. However like all other updates this one is roller update. It will add everything that is intended to be on the phone by now. One of it being error 80004003. This error won't let me download any new apps or update old one. Only way to resolve is master reset after update installation. This error was notorious following manual mango update. Since we had mango pre installed, it wasn't apparent. Now after 7740 update, 80004003 is haunting me. Am going to hard reset now.

I have no such problem following the 7740 update. All is well, including buying and downloading new apps.
Did you reboot? Mine was fine first couple of hours . It stopped following a reboot. Having said that I've been having issues anyway with live id and marketplace.

Ok did few tests. Rolled back to 7720. Updated again to 7740. manually entered live credentials after setting up phone. Nothing changed.
Rolled back to 7720. Updated 7740. Normal set up. But this time manually entered network credentials and son settings and voila!
Verdict: giffgaff was being funny! Nothing wrong with phone, OS or network now. Update made my phone forget my SIM as giffgaff don't have settings loaded on SIM.

Glad you got it working.
Just for the record, yes I had rebooted. The only issue I had (from new) was that like yours, my device is UK unlocked. I have an O2 SIM but the default APN settings and those loaded via 'Connection Setup' break mobile data connection. I Googled the Googles and found that iPhone APN settings for O2 allow mobile data connection on my Titan. Weird.
It also makes me feel a little dirty knowing that i have iPhone APN settings on my WP7 device

HAHAHAHA!
I think it has to be just O2 then! But what I was told at giffgaff is - since they use O2 settings and since their SIM don't come with settings on it, hence WP7 can't find APN automatically and so our data connects are broken. However O2 SIMs should ideally have APN details launched on the SIM itself. So if your Titan recognises your O2 payG or payM SIM, it should load APN automagically.
However shame you've got iPhone settings on your awesome WP!
Recieved 7740 today. Phone informed me the update was available. Recieved the HTC update last week so all is good. Well done Microsoft & HTC
O2 Network UK
Hi folks.
So I've got a Lumia 800, SIM-free from phones4u. I've tried the following to get my MMS working. Note everything else on the phone works fine.
Cut my PAYG O2 sim card to micro sim, booted up phone (first boot), set APN settings etc.
Doing a complete phone reset.
Getting a replacement microsim for O2.
Doing another complete phone reset.
I've bounced between O2 and Nokia's customer support lines a few times to no avail.
Texting the O2 number (2020) to get MMS settings sent to my phone. It errors.
So I have three questions.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Is there a way to force it into the right MMS settings?
Is Nokia's Network Setup application on the way after the secruity flaw that got it unpublished? Any indication when it might be out?
Sorry if any of this is a stupid question. A friend suggested you guys might be able to help.
Got the same problem and I believe everybody with sim free Nokia's experiencing the same problem.
There's no way to change the MMS settings. We need to wait for Nokia to release the app.
It's a bit annoying though.
Lumia 800 on O2 Ireland here as well and MMS is not working. I was expecting this as MMS on my existing HD7 would not work either without running the Connection Setup software provided by HTC.
I'm hoping the Network Setup software will be back soon on the Marketplace(and will actually include O2 Ireland in the settings).
Although my lumia seems ok with mms on tmobile uk, my wifes Mozart wont send or recieve mms at all i have tried everything. As HTC used to have a setup app before they removed it (dunno why its needed) im sure it can be setup by software.
Hi,
Nokia released the Network Setup App again. The only flaw is, I can't seem to find the app in Marketplace. BUT: go to this thread and follow the link in the first post on your phone.
My data connection now works perfectly, but MMS still does not work
Happy to report that USA T-Mobile Lumia 800 sending MMS perfectly.. after reading this thread, I tested this and my coworker got the photo I sent just fine. Didn't even take that long to send (T-Mobile USA restricts Lumia 800 to 2G Edge)
Thanks zoidinger - this got me the app. Annoyingly I now can't seem to actually make it *do* anything. I can select between O2 UK 1, O2 UK2, and tesco mobile, but no matter what it always ends up set to "O2 UK 1" iff I change it, go out and come back in again.
I'll have a play around today when I get the chance and see if I can get anywhere.

The Connection Setup app doesn't exist anymore on Marketplace or what? Because I had a Mozart before and to fix the MMS config I downloaded that app, ran it and then it worked.
BTW: I also got MMS to work on my Lumia yesterday with the Network Setup app. Here's how I did to get it to work:
1. I ran the app
2. Removed the app
3. Turned the phone off
4. Removed the sim card
5. Started the phone
6. Turned it off again
7. Reinserted the sim card
8. Turned it on again.
Now it works!
Right after playing around I got it working!
It was some combination of the following, in various different orders:
Playing with the Network Setup app
Removing the APN settings
Re-adding the APN settings
Rebooting the phone
Thanks so much for the trick to get the Network Setup app!

Unfortunately, that does not seem to work for me. I tested MMS with another phone. It worked instantly. I also checked the MMS settings inside the XAP from Nokia and they seem correct. Don't know what to do else...
The problem affects only branded firmware. Solution:
1. Open Internet Explorer on your phone.
2. We go to the following address: goo.gl/l5vi2
3. Click on the link "Zune Link" in the first post at the top.
4. Install the application.
5. Remove APN manually typed in the phone settings, if any we have (Settings-> Mobile Network-> Edit APN).
6. Run the application, wait a while and we have configured the phone.
7. Close the application.
Here is updated link for Network Setup from Nokia
I had to call Nokia as the previous links in threads did not work. they gave me updated link and I ran the app, power-cycled and sent MMS with no errors on phone. Please make sure you remove any APN settings before running the app, reboot after it detects your carrier. Enjoy, I hope this helps. The forum won't let me post a URL, you can email me directly [email protected] for link and maybe someone can post it
So I upgraded from the Titan to the Titan 2. Both are unlocked on Telus for use here in Toronto.
On the Titan 2 trying to run the HTC Connection app fails. On my original Titan it configures fine. On my Titan 2 MMS fails and group texting. On my original Titan it works fine.
I feel that essentially they are the same phone so it should work on both unless there are hardware changes be. I took out my sim card to test these functions and it just doesn't make sense. And why would the Titan 2 not recognise my carrier while the original Titan would?
APP "connection setup" does not work on Titan II
APP "connection setup" can run well on a Titan to fix MMS problem, but it does not work on Titan II. It shows Carrier does not exist in database. Do anyone know how to fix it? Or we can only wait for HTC update this APP?
BTW, I unlocked my phone using code to use a non ATT sim.

Glad to know it's not just my phone only having this issue. I'm wondering if we should call HTC on this one?
Is there any way to manually configure the APN setting? I will be getting a Titan 2 for use in UK and would love to know how to get around this.
Yes you can manually configure the APN but those settings are very limited in comparison to Android phones. There is no seperate settings for data and MMS.
Btw, I called HTC support. They are unaware of the issue. They found it strange and were unable to help me. I asked for the protocol to escalate the issue to ensure HTC is made aware of it and he asked me to send an email through support so I have. I guess we'll see what happens.

WP7 sets your settings APN DATA/MMS on the first start (after a factory reset). If you have a known common carrier then the settings are loaded automatically, but if you had AT&T and then unlocked and simply swapped sims (obviously everybody does) the titan or for that matter any wp7 phone does not change the MMS settings.
"Automatic Data Configuration" is run on the first-run then disabled until the next factory reset.
I recently purchased a refurbished phone Samsung Galaxy S21 5G. I just got it yesterday, and found that I am not able to use my mobile network. The sale said it is factory unlocked, and according to the descriptions, it should work just fine with my US Mobile SuperLTE network as well. When I switched on the phone, I see Verizon on the screen and so, I assume that it was locked to Verizon in the past.
When I tried to change the network settings, specifically the APN settings, I get the message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user." The three dots on the top with reset to default is also greyed out along with Network mode in the previous page. When I click Network Operators and try to connect to the network manually, I am only able to connect to Verizon Wireless and no other. But, calling and messaging seems to work fine. Is it that the unlock process has not been completed properly? Did any of you face the same problem before? It would be great if there is something that I could do to unblock the APN settings as the rest of the phone works really well. The specific model is SM-G991U.
Thanks!

So, you need to go into the settings menu and find about phone, software info. What you want to find is the CSC information.
It will basically look something like this: XAA / XAA-XAA / XAA (or some other letters like VZW or ATT or TMB etc etc.
What taht will tell you is very helpful in determining what rom the phone is running and what kind of device it was originally. Find that in your device and post it and people will help you to figure out what it means.

So the csc info is complicated, I'm no expert on it. But it does look like the OYN indicates it's a multi csc rom. It does have XAA as a part of the code, and that indicates it's 'open' for that specific part. But all the others are VZW. So it's running a vzw rom, obviously.
Your sim US Mobile uses both verizon and t-mobile networks. So it working for calls and texts makes sense, as a vzw phone. You could use patched Odin and flash a different (open) rom, but first you should verify that the device really is unlocked from vzw.
Best way to do that would probably be to insert another carriers sim card and see if it can make calls / texts. If not, it's not unlocked. But are you saying everything works now except mobile data? IOW, no internet access?
I had an international sim card at hand and I put it in. Interestingly the APN settings are no longer blocked. But, I do get a notification from setup wizard saying the inserted sim is not from Verizon and some services may not be available. But, messaging still seemed to work and I was also receiving 4G.

Oh then yer okay. That message from verizon can be gotten rid of a couple of ways; 1) use adb commands to disable the specific packages 2) use patched Odin and flash a different rom
VZW is the only rom I think that does that, and it's very annoying. I don't remember exactly which packages have to be disabled, but search google and use xda and vzw in keywords and u should find it.
The 2nd option would be my choice. It would do away with vzw crap and with an open rom you may find volte and vowifi will work also.
cheers
Thank you so much for your reply. That sounds great! To just give it a try, I tried putting in a TMobile sim and phone restarted to install software for TMobile. After that the APN settings were unlocked and now I am also able to connect to the internet using my US Moblile sim. The only problem is the the network mode is greyed out.
This rom I think only recognizes network from major telecom providers. So, just flashing with an unlocked rom would just help to unlock all the features and also remove telecom specific crap. I will try to flash it today.
Thank you again!
I also just flashed the stock firmware which is fully unlocked. And there is no bloatware from telecom OEM's. I am now able to use the network and set the APN's, but the Network Mode is still greyed out. Is it possible to know why? I am guessing that if the phone is fully unlocked, I should be able to change the Network Mode. Is there any other info that I can give you to help understand what is happening? I do not see vowifi as well.
