[Q] gamepad question - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have seen some apps around that make it possible to play games with some gamepads. However, i dont own one of those gamepads.
On my computer i use a cordless Logitech rumblepad 2 for gaming. I tried some of these apps to get my pad working, but offcourse if its not compatible it wont work .
I saw that when i put my pad in my tablet, that the light of the receiver goes on. Means it sees the gamepad right???
My question is how hard would it be to get my pad connected to my tablet so i can use it with games? Think i only need a driver for it but offcourse there is no such driver. Would this be way to hard for someone with average knowledge of android?

Did you find the answer to your question yet?

anybody have an experience with a bluetooth gamepad? talk about it here

so im thinking about buying this msi bluetooth gamepad for my g1 to make my emulation experience a little less cramped.
my problem is that i see no refrence to the use of this game pad on the g1 on this forum or on google.
Any ideas if this gamepad will be "plug and play" or "plug and pray"?
anyone have an idea?
Take a closer look at the specs. Android is not listed as a supported OS at this time.
Ive always wondered when someone would build a blutooth controller for phones
I wonder how hard it would be to get this working in android
it would really make the G1 that much better
I've successfully paired a Wiimote with the G1 but the system doesn't recognize any input from the Wiimote. hcidump -X shows you that the phone is receiving data but I don't think the phone knows what to do with it, yet . I'm thinking about digging a bit further and getting this working.
this is what i am afraid of. i should just get the controller and try to mess around untill i, or sombody else figures out what to do. i could be something as simple as writing a small app to reroute these lost commands to a keystroke or something.
or could be something more massive and complex than i imagine
probably just making an app..... it worked for the bt watches
That sounds doable, except the last program writing I did was with pascal in high school.
I got the android stuff started in eclipse but I'm lost after staring a new project. I should just leave this to a professional.
Anyone want to help?
If you are interested in alternatives to the MSI or Chainpus BGP100 bluetooth gamepad, google search "modded by bacteria" go to the "work in progress" section of his forums, and search for the thread "Re-housed Bluetooth controller". The creator of the site, Bacteria, will be transplanting the innards of the BGP100 into an SNES controller. Previously, he has transplanted it into a PS1 controller. It seams feasible to DIY into almost any controller housing.

PlayStation Controller with USB Adapter

Has anyone tried this? It would be cool if you could turn off the on-screen controls.

Edit:
I wonder if you can plug in a USB keyboard. Haven't seen anyone try that yet. I need to get an adapter an try it out.
I do know that you can buy a Bluetooth keyboard to use with the tablet that you might be able to map buttons to and use.
Also I do believe there is an App floating around that will allow you to Bluetooth the PS3 controller (or the Wii Remote) to your device to use with games.

I think honeycomb supports most usb controllers including ps3 and 360, I cant try it until I get an adapter though. Like is said above there are apps that let u use dualshock 3 via bluetooth, but I think they require root access.
Yes, you can use USB keyboard and mice. The Dual Shock 3 controller doesn't work (ironic, yes?). There is an app to use the DS3 and it requires root.
- Lisa (the one who did the video referenced above).
The ps3 controller is closed in as when you connect it with a pc... btw you can remove the on screen controls in the options...
Also... Lisa, I truly enjoy your very indepth reviews and previews of products...it is always your reviews that manage to go deeper than any review site I visit (eg. The usb port on the S) Glad to see u really are in depth if your on this site! I bought my hp TM2 because of you! Same with this really great tablet! Thanks!

Unfortunately the PS3 controller doesn't work. Sony's proprietary bluetooth is at it again. As you all know, Sony never likes to play well with other companies...and in this case, not even with their own devices. I ordered the logitech controller and an OTG USB cable which I'll try out today. I figure it'll work nicely and bluetooth would be even better. We'll see...
I have tried with a proper sony pad and can confirm it wont work via bluetooth or usb. it`ll connect to a rooted device but as the tablet isnt rooted yet it wont work.
I`ve talked to staff in a couple of Sony centres and they have said they have been told by sony reps that it will work with the controller soon.

Any update on whether the logitech controller works or not?
It works with the USB Adapter. Played my PS Certified Games just fine! It works on other games as well, but its hit or miss.

Yes, I use it with my emulators and it works fine. The controller itself leaves a little to be desired but with the OTG cable I bought and the logitech controller's usb dongle, i can now game a bit better on my tablet. I also bought the dock so that I could have the screen vertical.
You can use a mouse and a keyboard with usb.
I have plugged in the official wired Xbox360 pad and it works! The only problem is that the buttons are all mapped differently for the playstation certified games and there is no way of re-mapping them. For stuff like emulators where you can re-map the buttons it works amazingly well.
Has anyone tried using the PS3 DS controller ever since the PS Store came out? Just curious if it included some kind of software patch to allow the PS3 controller to work since Sony has stated that soon we will be able to use the PS3 controller. I just don't want to waste the money on the logitech controller just for the tablet when I have like 4 PS controllers lying around.

I Just tried and it doesn't work, all it does is flash the 4 red leds on the pad and that's it.
I think we need the Tablet rooted to get one working via usb
Damn! I'm probably going to try this when I get home from work and I have time to try pairing this to my tablet and then getting a refund if it doesn't work, unless someone wants to try it first. It says it doesn't require root, but the reviews are a bit iffy:

I'm leaving work early today (3:30 Eastern Standard) - I'll try to fit it in before my evening class.
Ok so after purchasing, no dice. The pairing was successful, but the server app still needs root to even start. I had no problems purchasing it because a have a bunch of android phones I should be able to use itwith. But as of now, the app doesnt work for the Tablet S. Would love to see rootcoming down the pike for this thing though...
Thanks for the update. I figured with the so/so reviews there was probably going to be an issue with the tablet s.

[Q] connecting PS3 controller to tablet s?

Hey everyone,
Have had my tablet for over a month now and absolutely loving it. Just a question to anyone that may know better than me. I was trying to link a PS3 remote to my tablet but no luck with the bluetooth connection. I have seen videos on youtube of a logitech remote, but since it is a sony device(playstation certified one none the less) I was hoping to use them when playing games. I know there is a program called siaxis controller, and siaxis compatability, but no go with either of them......anyone have any ideas or luck with trying?. I have even plugged the controller into the usb slot with the cable.
the pad currently won't work. Sony use a weird bluetooth setup on the ps3.
I've been told in 2 sony shops that it will officially support the pads at some point I'm guessing with ics.
If we got root then you can hack it to work but no root so far
It can be done with a USB connected controller, I can't post the link yet, but search Youtube for 'Sony Tablet S with PlayStation Gaming Controller' a MobileTech review.
Not sure about a wireless option though.
Yeah this was what I thought..... I looked high and low and couldn't find any info on the PS3 controller connection. I did find the video you were talking about for the usb controller. Thanks for that. Just a little bit of a bummer. One thing they seemed to have over looked, but I am sure with some software update in the near future, or rooting, we will figure out a way to get it to work.
If anyone finds anything in the mean time, please post it.....would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The problem with video is it uses Logitech not Sony controller, I wish there was a way to use Sony one wirelessly or wired at least.

[Q] Native Xbox360 Controller support flashable

Hi does anyone of you know if its possible to flash an native Xbox360 Controller USB support via CWM in the existing Rom of the S3.
Because it already work well with the PS3 Controller.
Thanks and Greedings
sPeEdX100
Just use "USB/BT Joystick Center". It's a paid-for app but not really expensive when compared to what you can do with it.
Yeah i know this app but i would find it better if i could store the driver of the 360 controller in android so i dont have to configurate bt Joycenter for every game
I saw also there are some Custom Roms from other devices which support the Xbox360 Controller, so there must be drivers in the Rom Package.
Is it possible to cut them out and flash only these files in the existing rom?
I think it would be better if there is an additional package for those, who want to stay official as much as possible and dont want to go the way of custom rom, at least in the first time.
Like me, cause I got the phone just 2 weeks ago
So it would be awesome, if I dont have to use the stupid program all the time. I dont know what I did wrong, but the app just doesnt save any settings I put in. So I dont give a f*ck on this bt/usb joystick center.
I want native support for my awesome phone, just like these xoom tabs do.
If ps3 works, x360 should also work. Would be awesome to play all my games like shadowgun, dead trigger and even gta3 anniversary edition on my hdtv with my mhl-connector.
So, thats why whe should ged some additional packages for this
If you find the dev, who integraded this feature into his rom, we could ask him to put out this as an extra feature for all the others.
cheers and peazz out
EDIT:
afaik some other phones and tablets (asus transformer) have native support for xbox 360 controllers. So why doesnt somebody pick up the modules and drivers from those devices and integrade it into a flashable package for our phone??
I dont think this is such a big challenge for a good dev. Hopefully someone will read this here.
Exactly what i mean
I found out that the "xpad.ko" file should be the driver for the Xbox360 Controller.
Has anyone the file or could extract it from a Rom and cook it into a package to flash it in the existing Rom
is the "xpad.ko" the only module you need? or is there more for it??
I guess it wouldnt hurt, if you or someone else just would ask one if the devs, if he/they could implement this driver/module into a flashable zip and make the x360 pad compatible with our beloved phone
Cause I cant afford a ps3 controller , too expensive, doesnt worth it, xbox is better
so, hurry on, guys
EDIT:
Something useful, and how to activate the module.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110906
Looks like it has to be loaded with a script manager. Something I just dont know how to do
maybe you have more luck than me
EDIT2: another useful post on the internet.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...oller-support-on-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1/
even if its the galaxy tab 10.1. The only stuff we need are the 2 modules and maybe some layouts for the different games???
For about $4 you can get an adapter to use Ps1&2 controllers on Ps3 so when you plug it in the phone will recognise it as a Ps3 controller then you got probably a hundred different PlayStation controllers to pick from including steering wheels.

Have you tried it out yet? I surely wont buy an adapter, that possibly wont work on my android But the biggest **** on galaxy s3 is the thing, that we cant use mhl adapter and x360 pad at the same time -.-'' but with bt ps3 controller it works. That sucks. Have to think, if there is probably a workaround for this :S
I tried the adapter using a Ps2 controller on USB/BT Joycentre App and it does get recognised as a Ps3 controller, and I'll try it without the App when I get home but if a wired Ps3 controller works as standard then it should work because the adapter just converts the signal and phone assumes it's Ps3, and it's obviously not as good as a wireless controller but it is another cheap option.
I just hate the bt/usb joystick center app, thats why I ask, if it works without it. I dont want to configurate another controller, that really sucks -.---'''' and doesnt get saved properly, or I just dont get it how the app works -.-
peazz
The 2 Needed Files are xpad.ko and ff-memless.ko . But they must be specified to the running kernel on the phone and thats the point i stuck
I attached the 2 files in my post, maybe somebody can work on it my Device Kernel-Version is "3.0.15-554452-user"
Thanks
"insmod [FILE]" is the command you're looking for.
However it wont work since that module is compiled for kernel 2.6.39.4-00002-g2977a0d and thus is incompatible with the 3.x kernels.
You may need to compile it from source.

[Q] Best gaming controllers for Xperia Tablet Z

Hey everyone. I'm starting to get into more gaming on my mobile devices and now that I have an Xperia Tablet Z I'm getting even more into it because of the large screen.
I know the tablet has Dualshock 3 controller drivers built in and I've been able to try it. It worked easily and flawlessly which was great, but the problem is that I don't own any PS3 controllers. I've used an app that allows my to connect my Xbox One controller to the tablet which is awesome, but it needs to be plugged in the entire time and I can only connect one Xbox controller to the tablet at a time. I've realized that bluetooth is the way to go for having wireless gaming as well as multiple controllers connected.
So the question is: Will the PS3 controllers be my best bet to use specifically with the Xperia Tablet Z, or will I be better off saving some money on generic android bluetooth controllers? Or maybe even the generic versions of the PS3 controllers? I like being able to just turn the controller on and have it connect automatically without having to open any other apps and sync or go through settings to get it to work.
I'm a complete noob when it comes to bluetooth controllers on tablets so maybe any bluetooth controller can sync up with the tablet without issues and I just don't know that. Right now I'm leaning towards buying authentic PS3 controllers to guarantee that they will just connect when I turn them on, but if I can save a bunch of money and get the generic version of the Dualshock 3 controllers then I'll absolutely do that instead. I just don't want to buy those just to find out that they don't work.
Any help, even if you can just share your experience with controllers that you've used would be super helpful.
Thanks!
...Now that I think about it. We might as well start a list of controllers that work well and don't work well with the Xperia Tablet Z.
Controllers that work great:
Authentic Sony Dualshock 3 controller:
-Built in drivers.
-Fast setup.
-No need for OTG after initial setup.
-Can connect multiple controllers (at least 2 haven't tried more than that).
Generic SixAxis controllers (don't have rumble feature)
-Exactly the same as authentic Dualshock 3 controller except that there is no rumble feature.
-Costs significantly less.
Nyko Playpad Pro
-Just ordered this (got it for $14 on nomorerack.com).
-Will update this section once I have a chance to try it out.
I have a PS3 controller but mine is a different one.
Normally you have a DUALSHOCK, but I was informed that exist a model called only SIXAXIS, and this one is what I have.
I bought a refurbished one and works perfectly.
The main diferences between the two is that the DUALSHOK has a vibrator in each side and the SIXAXIS doesn´t.
In fact if you don´t mind about something vibrating on you hand, you should go for a SIXAXIS, is lighter, so will be more confortable to play for long periods
I don´t have it here with me right now but you can see the diference looking above of the charge/player LED, is written SIXAXIS, instead of DUALSHOCK.
Anyway, hope it help you decide :good:
Cheers
EDIT:
I forgot to say that is cheaper too, I payed around of $28 with tax.
Usually the DUALSHOCK is (at least in Canada) $54 - $60 without taxes

Thanks! I'll add that to the list. It sounds much better than paying full price for the dualshock. I'm assuming it connects the same way as the Dualshock? Just plug it in, turn the controller on, wait for it to connect, then unplug the controller?
How did you connect two dualshocks at once?

It took a bit to figure it out, but it's actually pretty simple.
-Start with both controllers off.
-Go to Settings>Xperia Connectivity>DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller>How to connect controller.
-Connect the first controller via USB. The controller should power on, bluetooth should turn enable itself on the tablet then the tablet will tell you that the controller is connected.
-Unplug the first controller and make sure it is still working (go to home screen and try selecting apps with the joystick).
-Go back to the "How to connect controller" section and plug in the second controller (make sure the 1st controller didn't turn off). The tablet should tell you that the controller is connected. You should be able to unplug that one and use both now.
You may not need to go into the "How to connect controller" menu to do this initial setup, but that's how I got it working. After this initial setup you should just be able to turn the controllers on and have them sync up to your tablet automatically (providing the tablet had bluetooth turned on). Let me know if you have any issues getting it to work.

You do the same way you do with the Dualshock.
Like I said it is original, except for the vibrators.
So yes! Way better than pay double of the price for something that shake in your hand.

Thanks, I will try it there, although it isn't restricted at Xperia Z3.
I also have the z3 and my question is with 2 dualshock 3 controllers does it work well with multiplayer in emulators? I want to be able to play Mario kart and goldeneye 2 player
You can use any bluetooth controller with just this simple app
Just install SixAxis Controller app from google playstore and you can connect bluetooth controller from it. But note that, to use this app your tablet must be rooted.
With the help of this app you can also map keys of your controller to your tablet.
I play modern combat 4 using custom mapped controllers using sixaxis controller app. You can also use your controller as a native controller and enjoy games in default keymapping.
This app will require you to connect your controller with OTG cable for initial setup and later on you can connect your controller via bluetooth.
You can find the app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en
I'm a Tablet Z gamer myself. I use PS3 controller on my Xperia Tablet Z LTE. It works great. But for instance, some game like Modern Combat 4 have horrible default keymapping and SixAxis controller app is the best alternative for it..
But be assured that, Six axis controller app is a paid app so buy at your own risk. It's working for me very well, so it must work with most of the android devices.
You can read my experience on gaming with my tablet on this thread:

I hope you find this information helpful to you.
