Not sure when or the likeliness of this not getting extended but thought it'd be worth sharing. The exemption that makes jailbreaking the iphone and rooting android is going to run out and if it doesn't get extended, these activities could be deemed illegal.

The above article suggests signing a petition at the EFF (link to petition below):

I thought it was all about Apple too, but they did make reference to Android in the article. But it never was that big of a deal before with Android, was it? I just hope carriers don't look at this as an opportunity to pounce on the users.

I am sure they can twist the Legalese to say that you own the device, but Apple merely let's you lease software at no cost to you. This means that they still own the software, and if you modify it, it's illegal.
Gotta love EULA's. Check out iTunes one, it actually says that you cannot use iTunes to develop nuclear weapons... I am sure they could easily hide the "We own the software, so you cannot jailbreak it" somewhere.
Should not apply to Android, since it is open. Google could possibly pull a very **** move, and say if you root it, you lose the license to use gapps and market, but that is highly unlikely.
Android is and always will be open source. As long as android is Linux based rooting and modding android will always be legal.

This, all of this. I don't care what they do for Apple's ****ty software and operating system, but Android is open source and is licensed under ASL2.0. You can read about it all here: http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html
ASL2.0 is basically granting permission to do anything with it so long as the license is distributed with it, and that you indicate what exactly you've changed in each file you've changed.
Open source is open source is open source.

Paranoia? Wouldn't trust myself with one personally. (I like guns, but I don't have sufficient training to use one responsibly, and I don't believe that 99% of people do either.) But this isn't a gun debate ;-)
Insane to try and make 'rooting' illegal. What a complete waste of the earths resources. Only reason for this is to try and please the money makers.

I AGREE!! the way I see it once I give them money for the device I can do what ever I want to it because it is no longer their property, it's mine!
so if they want to not honor warranties then that's fine but making rooting illegal it completely stupid and I don't see how they could stop people from doing so...

Now that we have that out of the way, would you pay for the revolutionary app? If so how much?
no because im a cheap bastard

Looks like there is a tie for the most stable Android release (for apps anyway), between 2.3.1 and 3.2.
Here's the link to the article.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomiogeron/2012/02/02/does-ios-crash-more-than-android-a-data-dive/
This is the most useless of all of the already useless "let's look for any way that Android beats iOS" type threads I've ever read...
You could look at it like that, and post something even more useless. Or you could look at it as a way to compare the stability of various Android releases.
Did you even read the article, or did you get so excited to insult someone, you didn't even bother with it?
Thanks for making XDA one the best forums in the world to get flamed. You really help the site with your input.
LOL, its true, people flame for the sake of flaming... I thought it was kind of interesting, as I honestly figured it would have been the other way around, since we have so many more OS's on android than IOS

So in a world where companies and lay people alike are completely brainwashed into thinking iOS is the most amazing thing since sliced bread and NEVER has problems like crashing apps or any other problem for that matter, you don't consider this relevant?
If you were considering a tablet or smartphone OS and just wanted something stable without cheer-leading any particular company, you wouldn't consider this relevant information?
Why exactly are you here?
Good stuff, pretty cool to see actually.

Nah I mean by not having a aosp kernel
They use android kernels
They give you instructions to install it on a gs2
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mozilla/Boot_to_Gecko/Setting_Up_Boot_to_Gecko_Build_Environment
The funny part is that Gaia ( the launcher I suppose) can run on our phones already with limited capabilities, along with any app built for b2g since its completely HTML5 based

Well if anything the manufactures will yank the best parts out and use that in the roms. As far as devs porting it to our phones it will be interesting to see who tackles it. Thats why i asked if there was interest in the mozilla os, might be fun to play with.

Listen, if you want something other then sense on your phone, sell your phone and buy one that comes with whatever you were looking for. If it gets ported to the rezound by a dev, cool, if not, all this begging, post bumping etc is just worthless. There are countless people on the rezound forum who keep wanting something other then sense. If you want AOSP, buy a nexus. Dont flood the forums begging for something else. Its extremely tiring and imo should be a bannable offense so we can set an example to everyone. The rezound community is known as one of the crappiest out there due to your type constantly begging and *****ing.

So you want people banned who just "discuss" other possibilities? Good logic there. If your soo offended a few of us would like something else and would donate for it maybe you should keep your comments to yourself. All we were doing is talking about it. In case you didnt notice this is the general section of the forum. And no im not the reason you call the rezound forum crappy, you said it not any of us. So by your logic i guess dmedows should stop working on aosp and scotty should abandon hope of s-off. Sounds to me "no offense" that you are afraid of change.
Back on topic.
Old but still an interesting read
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/259568/20111201/carrier-iq-spyware-company-s-android-app.htm
omg
Thats soooo olddd omg. There is an app called carrier iq to tell if u if you have it. Most of providers have removed and almost every single custom rom has it removed. Dude this article is form december 2011.
That's old news. Like, really old. Look at the date on the article. Verizon doesn't use CIQ on any of it's devices. It may use something else, but so far we don't know of anything, so any claims otherwise are just FUD.
Edit: ninja'd

yeah i noticed it was old but just thought it was an interesting read... shouldnt of put the title that way but never the less its interesting.

I think they accomplished what we would all hope for profitability. Doesn't make the tech they put into the now called products they build any less just means they have to play by a different set of rules and the challenge to produce the same quality of work will be impacted. Sure as users we will lose and gain some features. I just hope they don't forget how they got to where they're at and start charging us or worse stop free rom development.

I'm pretty sure its illegal to sell something that's free/open sourced. CM cannot use android and make a Rom and then sell it. Android is open source.

True yes but then they are Inc. which means as soon as they are contracted to make a retail phone rom then why would they keep making a free rom. It maybe open source but open source does not mean free. May mean that you can use the codes libs and so on for your own development but if it were free red fedora and Ubuntu wouldn't be making money.
