Charging Battery: Is the following normal? - HTC Amaze 4G

Hi everyone,
I wanted to explain something about my phone's battery charging:
I have the phone down to 3% charge left and I plug it into the charger I have put
in a wall socket and let the juice flow into the phone.
The red light is solid BUT the battery icon on the Amaze 4G is showing as charging up= green bar fills up battery icon.
My question: Is this normal behavior for charging an almost dead battery?
BTW, The HTC rep I spoke to today said:
"You want to run the phone to next to zero battery life for the first few times and then charge it up."
Is this guy right?
Thanks and forgive the ignorance,

Yup. You want it to die completely and fully recharge it to calibrate the battery. You'll get the maximum life out of it basically.
The charging icon does that. It means it's charging lol. It's a fancy little animation. That's all.

[Q] Battery charging

I was wondering if charging the View/Flyer was like charging the HTC phones. You charge til the light turns green, shut it down. Charge until the light turns green, turn it on, charge until light turns green again?
There is no mention of that in the Flyer's user manual.
It just says charge it with the supplied cable and it's fully charged when the light turns solid green.
It sounds like you are maybe talking about calibrating the battery meter? I did the same as my HTC phones. Charge to full, drain to about 20%, repeat a couple times. Don't drain the battery until the device shuts down, its not good for the battery, and no real benefit gained.
I haven't heard of the sequence you mentioned.

No, such myth didn't exists for the Flyer and hopefully they also disappear for other HTC devices.
"Myth? But it works..."
Yes, also my days are lucky when I see a star in my morning coffee grounds
"But why is the percentage then better?"
Ah, the percentage is better. Yes but did you ever check if the device stays longer active? Surely not because then you know, that the accumulator didn't work better when you charge him in a special way. The only change is here cheating the battery statistic which is used to build the percentage. Therefor it stays longer on high values but didn't work any minute longer. Sorry.
.
Li-polimer batteries ALWAYS need a good full initial (out of the box) charge, after that, they improve in discharge over the next 5 to 10 chargings. The battery does not have any charge memory degradation as old Ni-Cads used to have so totally forget the 'discharge-recharge' idea.
However, as posted by redpoint73, never let it get below 15% or life is drastically shortened.
Best policy is, whenever you possibly can, connect it to a HTC (9Volt) charger and keep it topped up.
If you treat you devices battery as a 'only when mobile' power source; then it will give you long life. Don't misuse or abuse it...
I have a charger at the side of my sofa, one in the car (for long work days) and one at the side of the bed for overnight. Done the same for all my HTC devices before, and never had to replace a battery (which BTW, you can do if need with this tab!)
Ok, all that said...Is there such a thing as over charge? If I left the charger plugged in over night, would it be wearing down the battery? So do I need to keep an eye on charging and unplug it as soon as it's full/green lit?

You can leave it plugged in.
It's a fully regulated system, just like a laptop.

[Q] Help - Phone not charging

Hi guys
I need some help my evo 3d is not charging. I upgraded clockworkmod yesterday to 5.0.2.0. My battery died while i was out but now it won't charge. I've searched and it looks like a bug in cwm but I can't find a way to kick it into life. I don't have another phone that I can use to charge it. Can anyone help?
Did you remove the battery and put it back in?
When my battery dies, the phone doesn't turn on, charge, or give me any LEDs. I have to do a battery pull to make it turn on.
So there is no red light signaling that it is charging? I ask because when my phones battery dies, I need to charge for about 10 minutes before it turns back on, but the charging light is on.

There isn't any red light signaling for me. I went through 2 Evo's and both acted as if bricked when the battery died or I completely turned the phone off. It becomes functional again with a battery pull.
Phone plugged in for half hour no red light at all. Tried pulling battery twice still nothing. From what I've read it's a bug in the new Clockworkmod for evo 3d gsm. I can't find anyway around other than to charge the battery in a different phone. This is my 1st android phone and I don't know anyone with a sensation or evo3d
Ok left battery out for the last 5mins and put phone back together left charger out and powered on. It suddenly came to life! (i'm guessing battery had a tiny bit of life left) Waited for phone to boot and now charging light is on. Phew panic over. Thanks for the help guys

I think I was patient enough! I plug it for more than 16 hours but it's not fully charged.
Try another charger, maybe the one you have lost strength.

I try another charger and nothing have been changed. I also remove the battery and put it on the another Desire X and use my own charger, the result was OK, and battery fully charged. So there is no problem with my battery and Charger.
I use a widget that shows battery voltage goes to 4194mv, at this point percentage show the 90%. If I restart my phone percentage goes to 94%!!

[Q] Sometimes my battery won't charge

Hey, I have been having problem with my phone for the past 2 weeks in terms of charging it. Sometimes it charges when I plug it in to a charger and the next day when I plug it again, the red light lights indicating it is charging but it really doesn't. So when I plug it in to a different wall outlet, it charges and when I do the same the next day it doesn't. Not until a switch a wall outlet. I don't really know what could the problem be, I have tried a htc charger and a third party charger, both are giving me the same results. I even flashed different ROMS and KERNELS to see if the problem resolves but it doesn't. Please I don't know what the problem might be, I mean the red light even turns on, but sometimes it charges and sometimes doesn't.
When it does not charge even after charging it a couple of hours, note the current battery level then restart the phone and take a look at battery meter again, it should indicate it correctly. Something similar happened to me due to a bad battery.
I've done that, but it doesn't change. For example last night I used my phone till 6 percent, put it on charge, woke up this morning and saw that it was dead. This happened before too but I didn't completely use my phone till 6 percent, usually around 20 and it just wouldn't charge. So I would have to move to a different wall outlet to charge it.
maybe your battery has gone bad ? o.0 try a new battery
Yea I suppose that is the only option I have left . Thanks for helping

Any answer may apply to this question doesn't matter if you're right or wrong, but what if its not the battery? could it be the pin inside my phone that maybe messed even though the red light turns on?

[Q] Battery led indicator

Bought new battery, and everything was fine for a few days.
Now it charges to 99% and the LED is always red, it never switches to green to indicate its fully charged like it did before, even with this replacement battery it turned green after fully charging.
Rebooted the phone, no help.
Put in the old battery, it charged to 85% and LED turned green. Ok, so the phone isn't crazy, maybe new batt needs recalibrating or something?
Ideas?
