Only if you keep the same file systems. Custom roms are usually ext4 and stock roms rfs.

Other backups can also be backed up/restore. For ex- you can restore a backup made on your friends Galaxy Ace in your device (if you have the custom rom and cwm recovery) but backup made on galaxy mini can't be restored in ace.

Check compatibility of theme with your ROM....maybe the theme u flashed was not meant for your ROM!!!

So you made a backup from stock rom (ics?) with stock kernel. And you want restore it? Is this the same firmware as you currently running?
did you renamed the backup? CWM writes something in the restorte process? e.g md5 mistmach or something else?
If you made a backup from gb rom you can't restore it with ics kernel, because cwm can't restore the kernel.
I created backup of latest kernel n ics. Than i tried to install custom rom but it didnt work so i tried t restore... Twice unable... Dont wry only 1 backup and date is mentioned on it.... U mean t say to restore kernal shall remain same?
1 more que i used pimp my rom app nw my internet game force closes?

On cwm when try to restore gives you a status 7 error or something like that?
Friend one thing you have to remember that while restoring old rom you have to remember that you need to flash the same kernel on which you have taken the backup as your problem is rom kernel mismatch. For stock rom try Rage kernel
Sent from my Xperia Live with Walkman using xda app-developers app
Restore like this:
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Format system
Wipe dalvik cache
Restore
Be sure you have not renamed backup or any file related to cwm

It does nt gv error it says restore sucessful.. Whn i reboot it stays n sony logo

Yes Ajay74 is right, your problem is kernel ROM mismatch. On all Xperia 2011 devices (and before) there is no separate partition for recovery and it usually lives in the boot partition and recovery cannot back up the partition where it lives. So the kernel is not backed up and restoring a back up will not restore the kernel that made the back up.

It basically creates a image of your phone...apps, contacts, kernel too...everything is backed up!:good:
EDIT: Even if u flash a new ROM, ur custom kernel will not be affected unless the ROM itself contains another custom kernel!

Since i don't know which version of stock rom you have as backup and also if rooted or not, the easiest way (like i'd do it) is reinstalling CM 10.1, copy boot.emmc.win from your backup to your computer and flash it via fasboot command "fastboot flash boot boot.emmc.win". Then you can restore backup via TWRP and it should boot.
thanks

Follow these
1.Go to CWM
2.Backup and Restore
3.Hit Backup
4.Done
These will backup your whole Rom and at the time of restore just hit restore that's it
the backup will save in sd/clockworkmod/backup/Here
