The weirdest thing happened with my Droid RAZR just now. It suddenly rebooted, then shortly after restarting the ringer decided to turn on and not stop. I rebooted again to see if it happens again, but hasn't yet.
Has anyone experienced this behavior? I'm not rooted and I haven't installed any suspicious apps. The only thing I can think of is Smart Actions maybe being the culprit but they have been working fine for the longest time now. Or maybe it could be Juice Defender, or even the pre-installed Task Manager app?
I'm thinking that someone tried to call you the same time you were rebooting and for some odd reason it just stuck in ring mode. It's a fluke!

Check your sound settings. If screen lock sounds are on and SD card sounds off, this results in a continual ringing at boot up. The trick is turning both on or both off. This bug is being fixed in the upcoming OTA (I'm pretty sure).

Lol, that's a possibility. It would be one massive coincidence if this scenario occurred for me, especially at 1 AM when it occurred. With phones being so complex these days anything can happen to cause weirdness like this. My phone randomly booted on its own. I didn't initiate it. In the 2 months I've owned this phone, it has been rock solid without crashing. This maybe only the 3rd time its done it during the time span.

Thanks for the tip. I originally had both on actually. This now got me thinking that the SD card probably had a minor hiccup resulting in the phone rebooting and trying to load back the SD card at start up. Think that's plausible?
This hasn't happened again (yet), so I guess it was a fluke. Thanks guys for the tips.

There are a few posts out there where people still have some issues after the OTA, but it seems that, at least for some, things might also be better.
How many of you still have issues with the phone hanging or rebooting now that you've had the OTA update?
I also wonder if maybe it is happening because I'm using Go Launcher Ex rather than Moto's.
I am using the stock launcher and get hangs/reboots every couple of days. Before the update it would just shut off, and I would plug the USB in to get it to power back up, since the update I have only had it do that a couple of times, but I am having reboots now too (maybe instead of additional shutdowns). I'm not really sure if that's better though :/
I still get muted audio, but now I don't have to restart the phone to make calls. Just try calling again and again and it eventually it will go thru with sound. That said the phone had become very laggy since the update.
No more muted calls I or random reboots on my photon or my girlfriends....
I used the leaked update thru rsdlite ...she flashed hers thru the OTA
Again no issues since the update ..loving the phones

I am not seeing any lagging nor other issues since the sprint ota update. Note, I have not rooted my phone and am using "motor blur".
I do not usually call out a lot so I cannot say for sure if the no audio calls are still an issue for me. I also power down and start up my phone every morning.

No lag at all and in fact it became even faster after I did a factory reset after the OTA. as for lockups I have none of that, but sometime when I go to make a call it'll reboot the phone, but that is usually because the radio is already on the fritz. But when I say radio I'm talking about the 3G/voice radio the WIFI and 4G radios still function perfectly fine while the 3G is totally locked up and the bars never go up or down at all. The restarts from the radio have become less frequent it seems and I am starting to see it do it if I jump between roaming and Sprint. So I'm going to run as Sprint only for a week and see what happens.
Also a funny thing I noticed is that before I did the factory reset I was rooted and after the FR I was still rooted??? very odd...
I did the ota update the day it came out and am not having any muted call issues but am having an issue where the phone hangs once a day and becomes unresponsive. The only way to get it working is to remove the battery for a few seconds and replace it and restart the phone. I had called sprint and they had me hard reset to stock. That worked for two days and its back to doing it everyone day again. I don't know about anyone else, but this is not making me happy I really needs a stable phone..... Help!

Mine reboots from time to time as well. I went to the circus yesterday & was trying to use the camera & it wouldn't start up. I power cycled the phone & it was good to go. Then I got a phone call, the audio going to my bluetooth (Jawbone Era) got real bad, to the point I had to turn it off & back on. The sound was coming from both the bluetooth (static & spurts of words) & the handset (regular audio). Anyone experienced anything like this?

I got mine after the update but I have not had any muted calls...I rarely call out or receive on my phone though. I do however have random reboots while streaming music or using navigation on my phone. I also will lose the ability to stream Last FM and / or Pandora randomly while I still have full cell signal. After starting and stopping playback several times I can get them to work. I did have this issue with my old HTC Hero as well but no where near as often.
I was reading a web page in a restaurant & it just rebooted on me. No rhyme or reason. I want to like this phone but paying $600 for it to have this problem is a bit much to take.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App
I've had a few reboots since the update but I narrowed the problem down to the hearing aid option under call settings. Once I turned off that feature, my phone has been virtually flawless. HELL YEAH!!!
I've had the phone for 5 days, and I've gotten about 5 restarts.
It happens when I'm doing something. Playing with ring tones, playing a poker game app...
Just wondering if it's happened to anyone else, and if it's hardware or software related.
EDIT: 9/29/2011
I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now. The past week, I've not had any restarts. Don't know what's changed. I think there was an OTA update about last week. I"ve been using it as much as I had been - web browser, angry birds, email, etc...
Oh, about last week I also re-seated the battery. Don't know if that does anything, since the battery seem like it was seated fine. But someone recommended it. Could just be a fluke.
So, one way or another, the random restarts seem to have solved itself.
Me also
Had mine for about a week and has rebooted at least 5 times. Phone seems to hang and then rebooted.
I am coming from an EVO which never had these problems. Thought about trying a Samsung or another Photon
Yea, just yesterday when I was using my flashlight app for a few minutes. It has mostly happened when I used the led flash as a flashlight. It doesn't matter which app I use, it just restarts sometimes.
And also when I was playing a game today.

Had restarts and a few lock ups everyday. Got a replacement and no issues since.

None for me after 3 weeks.
My EVO 3D used to do it once in a while when it would lose a signal.
Those who don't have random restarts hardly at all...are you installing apps and using the phone fairly heavily?
I'm wondering if this is a hardware of software issue.
Try re-seating your battery and make sure the back is on good.I was having the restart issue and it ended up being that the rep that initially started the phone up didn't put the battery door on correctly.

Exactly. I've only had one random restart, after the OTA, but I chalk it up to the heat wave where I was working. Poor Mo-Pho got up to 119 degrees.
I would also suggest a factory reset and wipe of the internal SD, a lot of times the testing of each phone before they're put in the box can cause issues.

no problems here. love this phone!
Me I am facing this issue since I got the phone I am at that point of replace the unit or order other phone!
What do you think?
I am really so pissed how is that you see only good comments on this phone and no body mention this known issue on thos youtubbie crappy videos...
I cant believe that I paid good money for this phone and I am not the only one with the issue. Sad thing no body know if this is HW or Sorftware!
I have no problem fixing the software... we really need the hackers spending some time debugging this issue.

Ive had my phone for about a month, probably had 7 or 8 restarts total since I got it, two in one day during the first week but it seems better after the second OTA update. For the past two weeks I've only had two restarts. Each time it restarted I was playing angry birds and had let the phone got to sleep while in the middle of playing. When I woke it up it restarted. Sounds software related to me. Im rooted but not unlocked. I love this phone!
I get over 1 a day. Its sad. Def gonna get a replacement when I get the time

I get atleast one a day. I don't notice because at home I set my phone down a lot. It gets worse when im on the phone surfing the web. Then it seems to do it more often. Yesterday it rebooted three times in one hour. It gets annoying but im past my 30 days to return plus Sprint doesn't have any other phone that interests me.
Sent from my Photon.
I have the reboot issue, but I have narrowed it down. DEVS TAKE A LOOK!!
So far I can get a 100% repro of this issue if
1. I am on WIFI for DATA and make or receive a call.
2. then leave WIFI area and attempt to call out, TXT or use 3G data.
3. phone will reboot every time when that occurs.
60% repro of reboot issue with the fallowing.
1. make or receive call with WIFI on but not attached to network.
2. go into WIFI range of a known(not new!) WIFI hotspot and phone attaches to WIFI on it's own.(this will sometimes cause the WIFI, 3G, and phone signal to all appear in the task bar at the same time)
3. make a phone call, txt or turn off WIFI then attempt to use 3G data and phone will reboot.
Also this is VERY IMPORTANT!! The conditions above will not cause the reboot on it's own. If you have data updates off or leave WIFI off all day then you might never see this. Also VERY important if you receive a call when attached to WIFI and then use your phone for data only you will not get the reboot right away it may take upto 30-40 min. Also important, if you attempt to do either repro above via making a phone call you will see the dialer get stuck at "connecting" in the upper left hand side, but it will never go to "connected" and hitting anything on the dialer or the back button will not help only home, but you will notice nothing on the phone will work anymore. This will ultimately lead to a reboot!
Here is the problem as I have trouble shot the living crap out of this and it seem that either the voice/3G radio is locking up or the dialer is crapping out.
Also on a side note that when the dialer is stuck on "connecting" if you force stop the dialer it does nothing, but if you force stop the "dialer storage" it will kill the dialer, but you will still get a reboot at some point after that.
So now we know where to look at for this issue. Can any of the devs look into this as I am not sure where to go from here, but this IS the problem everyone is seeing and can be hardware or software.
Is anyone experiencing random vibrates in 3's? Like your device will vibrate 3 times and stop every once in a while, while your device is in stand-by mode, (screen off, not in use)?
Let me know if this has happened to you and if you have found a solution...
Let me know if you've heard of this, or even if this hasn't happened to you.
Any response is welcome.
Thank you.

Reserved for the OP, "deedscreen", that's me!
Ya I've experienced it. Every minute or so, it'll vibrate 3 time like you said. For my phone, it doesn't matter whether the screen is on or off. It's pretty annoying, but a reboot solves it until it starts again randomly. Come to think about it, I haven't had it happen in at least a week. I'm on cm7 btw.

No, not yet... I have had a recent family emergency so I am postponing the replacement until after the holidays.
Nope, my phone has never done that. Stock 198_6 and rooted.
Yes! It's been happening for a few weeks maybe. Probably once or twice a day? I'm on rooted 198_7.
Yes, it does
Mine is doing the very same thing since this week (after a phone format/reset).
That problem never happened before the format/reset.
I'm on a rooted stock photon and I'm experiencing this also....
it'll be random too. sometimes 3 vibrattions or sometimes just 1, but every time its different. sometimes it'll vibrate in 3 quick bursts. or just 1 time..
i found the temporary fix which was to reboot but it just occurs after so long.
mine has done it since i got it on the 1st of November
Sorry for the late reply, but yeah... I've had that issue with every Photon that I've had and trust me --- I've been through many Photons... Are you all rooted? I know that's a stupid question, but I never had that issue when I wasn't rooted, or maybe I just don't notice it...
I've been bothered by the famous Random Reboot that I haven't got ever!!!

I am on stock unrooted and I get this maybe on an average of once every other day. It seems completely random, and usually the phone is in sleep mode.
I have something to say that may seem stupid, and I'm not trying to insult anyone...............Do you have it turned off in Notifications? If its on, it will chime and/or virbrate whenever you get e-mail or text. The # of time depends on the number of new notifications.
Something I learned this weekend when I shut off that damm chimer that would wake me at 3:00AM!
If this is an issue, I've never experienced it. Stock rooted.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
There is a feature on the stock rom that saves a logfile when you press the two volume bottoms at the same time for a couple of seconds. It will initially vibrate 2 or 3 times and then once more when the logging is complete. Check you device in the internal storage for a folder named bug2go. That is where the logs are stored.
Sent from my MoPho. All typos are the phones fault.
It does it sometimes when you aren't even hitting those buttons, if you use root explorer and modify the file from "filename.file-extention" to "filename.file-extention.bak", could that stop the problem???
So about five minutes ago I was playing a game called Triple Town and all of the sudden my screen freaked out and was super distorted and it wasn't hardly usable. So I turned the screen off and back on and nothing happened. Then I restarted my phone and it fixed it. But it scared me because I just got my phone back from getting repaired. Has this happened to anyone else?

^is always a good idea, you could take a step or 2 further..
1. pull battery and re-seat SIM and MicroSD
2. if rooted you could clear cache and davlik cache
If my phone ever acts up, I just remove the battery for a minute. I restart the phone 2 - 3 times a day to clear up the RAM. Never had an issue.

Really? Do you restart that often out of habit or do you notice a difference? I know old WinMo phones needed to be restarted on a regular basis to clear up memory that wouldn't get released, but I didn't think that was an issue on Android. BTW, this is my 1st Android phone so I am genuinely curious.

It is both. I used to have a Nokia phone and I used to restart it 1 - 2 a day. I used to work at T-Mobile and many issues I get from customers were solved just by pulling the battery out or restarting the phone. The phone is like a computer. It needs to clear up the memory. It makes a noticeable difference.
I try to remember to reboot the phone every few days. I think it helps keep things running smoothly.
If I have a problem I will turn off, pull battery, and pull SIM. So far with this phone I only did that once when it spontaneously rebooted. Hasn't happened since.
Hi all im having a interesting problem with my touch screen. Infact im not sure its the touch screen or a software bug really. Im runing a Droid X2 with Eclipse 2.2.1 now. Th problem started out when i was texting it would suddenly stop sensing the text keys i was touching. If i locked the screen and re opened it the problem stopped then the problem suddenly only started affecting the send button. and the odd thing is when i changed to swype entry it started working. I sbf'd back to 2.3.4 and the problemed seemed to go away. Then i rooted saved with voodoo root keeper updated to 2.3.5 418 build then restored root and cleared data and loaded eclipse 2.2.1. I belive at this point the problem was fixed then i reloaded all my apps with titanium backup and then suddenly the problem reocored. I went into manage appas and went yo multi touch input app and cleared the data but that didnt fix it any sugjestions? Ps im still not 100% sure its not a harware problem but i think its software.
Wipe and call Verizon to get a new phone. Had same problem but it would happen about 5-20 times a day and no I'm not kidding in fact some days it was worse then 20. Its a bad digitizer. Not software related. I had it on froyo, 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5 all rooted and not rooted, on eclipse and a few other roms that I liked. Nothing will fix it and it will get worse. But from all my experience all Droid x2 have a bad screen in one form or another. I went through 3 Droid x2 and all of them had a bad screen.
A fun little experiment to try and I suggest all owners of dx2 should try is call tech support but don't talk to any one just try selecting options and or speaker phone. I found 3 Droid x2 with this whacked glitch that happens on every rom official or not. What to look for is if you try to select an option see if the screen goes shuts off as soon as you hit the option. Its a random glitch and all 3 of my dx2 had this but in different parts of the screen.
My first dx2 had issues with selecting option 1 and 2nd dx2 had issues with options 2 & 5 and 3rd one got it when I tried to hit speaker phone. And I knew it wasn't because of a screen time out cause it would do it even when I was rapidly trying to hit the numbers. This happens with any phone # that has a select option portion. May take a couple phone calls to get the glitch to happen.
But original poster just call Verizon, your original issue should he enough to warrant a replacement as long as its still in warranty. I assume its a bad digitizer cause that's what allows your phone to register what your touching on the screen. Its hardware not software.
