How to minimise/hide incoming calls? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Often I'll be busy browsing or writing a message or whatever and I'll be interrupted by the full-screen incoming call display.
I'm looking for something that automatically puts incoming calls in the background, ideally just in the notification bar or something without interrupting the current app.
It's particularly annoying when I'm writing a message in Opera for example and an incoming call wipes the message because Opera doesn't have a proper restore state.
I don't want to block calls all together, just make them less intrusive.
I found a program called backgrounder, but it didn't seem to work, and from the youtube video I saw of it, a full screen still appears to pop up on an incoming call.

Haven't tried it, but recently discovered a nice app called itouch which simulates apple's assistive touch feature. If you press "home" or "recent apps" on it during an incoming call, it takes you out of the incoming call screen, and you can use your phone normally without having to cancel on the person calling one of its many great features.

restricted calls... anyway to do this

First, WITHOUT USING ANY 3RD PARTY APPS
If someone calls from a blocked/restricted number, is there any function in the Titan that would allow me to set it to not ring (or to only vibrate, or have a special ringer for only restricted calls)? I tried making a contact called restricted, but that didnt work.
Second, if the above is not possible, what are some 3rd party apps that I might try? I never pick up blocked calls, and I dont even want to hear it ring.
It's not exactly a 3rd party application, more like a service; check out www.youmail.com . If somebody with a blocked number calls me, it says "the number you are calling does not take calss from unidentified callers, please hang up and reveal your number."

Ummm.... There has to be a million. Ok not that many but seriously There are even some that are developed on XDA! I could find that one though ;c(
Here is one that is pretty popular. Im sure others will chime in with there favorites too.
http://www.wm6software.net/communication/call_firewall.html
I could swear I had done this in the past.... But I cant figure it out now.
You can try Ringo... it might do the trick...
http://ringomo.com/windows.php
If you dont want to hear it ring... I recommend SPB Phone Suite...
It has a blacklist feature to ignore calls.. ignore and never ring.
Also it has a great today plugin for showing your vmail, unread messages.. etc (I recommend turning off the big buttons though.. the default look is ugly IMHO)
And my favorite feature, you can set the phone to vibrate, or silent for a period of time (5 mins, 15mins, 30 mins.. etc) This is a life saver since I often need to silence my phone for meetings, and then a few hours later I realize... I have 20 missed calls because I never set it back.
### Edit ###
I just set SPB Phone suite to blacklist "Private" calls.
I then blocked caller ID and called from my home phone... Nothing.. no ring, no flash, the phone ignored it.
It did ring on the callers end the normal number of rings before going to vmail... I.E. it didn't go right to vmail like when you hit ignore.
Superb. SPB Phone Suite does exactly what I want with regards to calls from blocked numbers.
Thanks!

This site is very slick. Thank you for sharing it.
To test ignoring calls I added my desk phone number to the block list. I called it up, my phone woke up, but never rang and didn't give a notice of a missed call. My desk phone was greeted with the message I left it on youmail.com which happened to be the default smart greeting. Very very cool to have this feature without installing a thing on my phone.

Call blocking

I've tried a whole bunch of different call blocking apps and they all block the same way. They let it ring once then send to voice mail.
Is that the way calls are blocked on the phone in general? Or is it just the apps?
I want something that can send the call straight to voice mail without ringing.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
There is an app in the "andriod app and games" section in the main andriod section.
Also, i thot ics final also has an inbuilt blocker too but I havn't tried it.
Hv u tried blacklist caller?

Dont jus say thanks, use d 'THANKS' button. [XDA RULE]
So after downloading a whole bunch of different apps, I've come to realize that that's how the phone blocks calls. The only blacklist that works by directly sending the call to the voice mail is the one in the Call settings in the phone. I'm guessing that's the only one that works normally and apps work the way they do...
Is it just me or does it work like that on everyone's ace?

Do you mean that you got it to block without ringing ? I tried it and the caller still gets 1 ring before it goes to voicemail.
I'm looking for a reliable app, which works the other way around: Outgoing connection blocking.
1. Block outgoing calls to expensive phone services. (like 0900-xxx)
2. Block outgoing SMS. Before a SMS is sent, the user have to unlock this function by password input.
Is there something like that?
Normally you have to pay your mobile provider for this service.

I uninstalled it because I had network issues after I enabled it. Data connections kept dropping/becoming slow. I guess I'm still on the hunt for a call blocker.

Yeah, those sound like things an app can do. Well, the 2nd one at least. After all the different apps I've installed, I know I've seen it. Now I just can't remember which one xD
Yep, the two best ones are made by the same company:
Root Call Blocker (for general use):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Call Master (for advanced users):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
These are the only blockers that completely block everything without turning the screen on. Need to be rooted though.
Call master works perfectly on my phone ...it doesn't even wake up the fone while blocking calls and sms ..it rocks ..

MIUI ROM v2.1.67 incoming call acceptance?

Hey guys, so I'm obviously running MIUI on my 3D but everytime I receive a call and I slide down to answer, a voice pops up and asks me to press 1 if I want to receive the call? How can I set this up right, I'm pretty sure it's a setting but I can't find it! Thanks
Are you using google voice?

I installed it and unistalled because it kept sending me emails and all that junk. Could that be the problem even if it's not installed?
When I had that issue it was because I integrated my phone number with google voice. I fixed it by going back through the settings and choosing not to use google voice to make any phone calls.

Removing google voice association with the phone number is one way to resolve the issue.
If you're interested in keeping google voice but dislike the requirement of pressing 1 every time to accept the call, the feature is labeled as Call Screening and is available under the Settings -> Calls section on the web site: http://www.google.com/voice.
If you receive a lot of legit phone calls, this setting would probably get frustrating quickly. If you receive a lot of spam calls, this setting is very handy as you can send it to voicemail and listen if they leave a message.
Hope that helps!

[Q] Need help turning something off

My wife started playing with my note , and I have notice that everytime I get an e-mail or call that my phone tells me " You got 1 new e-mail " or tells me who is calling. Anyone have an idea ?
I am confused as to what you are asking. You dont want to know when someone is calling you or texting you?
You can turn off notifications in the menu settings of the messaging app.
As for phone calls, well you will probably need to download a blocker app to stop phone call notifications.
Sorry for the confusion.
I don't know if she install something but does your Note notify you via voice that you got 1 new e-mail.
Or like when someone calls that this person is calling you or the number ?
It kills me to hear that while I am listing to music.
I think he means that it is talking aloud to him. I had that with some ROM I flashed on my last phone. I had to do into settings> applications > all applications and clear defaults/data on any app that had TTS in the name Example - Pico TTS. TTS stands for text to speech.
idk for sure, but perhaps she turned the Driving Mode on.
goto Settings / Voice Input and Output / Text to Speech settings.
is Driving mode checked green? if so, uncheck it and do a test call, see if it stops the phone from talking to you.
tx --- art.

You are the BESTEST !!!!! LOL. Why she did that , I have no idea. For all I know she is getting kicks and giggles for it. But thanks. That was it !
It sounds like she turned on the Vlingo Voice App with Driving enabled?
I did the same thing when I first got the Note last week.
np Fred, lucky guess lol. i'm glad you asked, now i know what that option means

Call blocking with HTC One M8 ?

I am coming from the LG G2. I love the build quality of the M8. So far, my only ***** is the ability, or lack thereof, to block phone calls.
On the G2, if I went to Settings>Call, there was a call reject setting there. It had a check box to block unavailable numbers, and I could add any number I wanted. I also could use what I called a wildcard to block calls.
For example, I could add 1-800. Then there was an option under that to choose beginning, end, etc.
I could just enter the 1-800 and then choose beginning. So all calls beginning with 1-800 would be blocked. Just add 1-800, 1-877, 1-866, etc and get all the stupid telemarketers who "somehow" got my number to be blocked.
Is the functionality missing on the HTC? I had thought that this was a function of KitKat Android.
Would be nice to have back.

I have yet to receive my M8, but in the past i've tested out about 20 call blocking apps and found extreme call blocker to be the best one as it blocks the call BEFORE it even hits the device. Also it has options out the wazoo. I know we're not supposed to talk about paid apps here but i've spent a long time testing all those different apps out and if it's not baked into the M8, it'll save you lots of time testing. I'm in no way shape or form affiliated with extreme call blocker, just a long time, satisfied user

Doesn't actually happen before it hits the device, cause if it did there would be no way for call blocker to interact with said incoming call. There is a delay from when call hits device, and actually rings. This is where it intercepts the call. I use Root Call Blocker Pro. Many options also. I have it set to kill the call immediately. It can be setup to send it directlyto voice mail. Let it ring once, kill ect. Also will log, and block texts same way.

This is true but my phone never rings. It'll actually pick up for a sec and immediately disconnect without using a special ring tone designed to silence first ring. Not quite sure how root call blocker pro works as it may have come out after I discovered extreme call blocker. It also has the same features in that you can block calls and texts alike. Set it to go straight to vm, hang up no voicemail. I'll have to test root call blocker out to see what the similarities and differences are

Exactly. Mine never rings either. Runs as a service, that's why it needs root. My screen never lights up, or anything. Nothing to let u know there was even a call except the log. It kills the call the milisecond it hits the phone, so it never hits the dialer/ringer whatever u wanna call it...
