First FEB OTA, NOT ICS-Incoming Software Update Thread OLD - HTC Rezound

http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/rezound.html
New update coming soon apparently. I would recommend people holding off on it until a stock rooted version is released.
If the package includes new radios it might help us out with ICS roms or give us better signal strength.

Not holding cause I'm not rooted. I'm upgrading this HO! Right away. Sick battery issues

Yep I heard later this afternoon. The wife is running unrooted stock so I hope to get a look at the update when it hits her phone.

Maybe very good news

Hopefully if there are new radios they are GSM/CDMA hybrid to solve the Texting/SMS problem, and to make the HTC Rezound a world phone!!!!!
FINGERS CROSSED!!!!

I just got mine Sunday and am still 100% stock. So I'll get this as soon as it comes out. Been waiting to unlock the bootloader and root it, just to run the phone for a few weeks to see how it is.

unlocked bootloader
Can I install the OTA on the rezound if the bootloader is unlocked only?

Hi, speaking as a newbie with a Rezound that's rooted and has an unlocked bootloader.
If I install this update, it'll break my root right? Would it affect the bootloader?
If I don't want it to affect my root status, would I have to wait until a "hacked" version is released by the developers here?
And if I ever install a custom rom, I could only get software updates through the developer of that rom, correct?
Thanks guys!

Per the PDF
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update,
Software Version: 2.01.605.11; Baseband: 0.95.00.1118r,
for your HTC Rezound.™
Verizon Wireless and HTC encourage you to download this update.
Device Features
+ Updated signal strength meter to 5 bar Received
Signal Strength Indication (RSSI).
+ Screen Timeout issues while connected to Wi-Fi have been resolved.
+ Resolved issue with Mobile Hotspot data stalling while multiple users are
connected.
+ Improved audio quality during voice call.
+ Reduced forced closures related to the People application.
+ Improved device stability reduces continuous resets.
Email, Messaging and Data
+ Resolved issue with Task Manager stopping Mail background service.

Maybe this will work, OTA RootKeeper, search for it in the market.

Just checked my phone and it is already doing an automatic download of the OTA.

Yup. I deferred it, but I just checked and it's there. About 54mb it says. I won't download it until I know it doesn't break root or anything else I have going here. I did download that root protect software just in case it actually makes a difference.

is there a way for you to somehow get the http:// link?

Con its still downloading for me. I'll see what I can find when its complete.
I didn't ask for it start downloading, it just started on its own.

It is likely it won't let start installing automatically. So if it prompts you to install, connect to USB and see if you can find the zip file.

No update yet here, but my mainver was updated running ics so that may be the reason
I'm living on a yellow submarine

If you aren't running the stock rom it probably won't authenticate.

mine locked up at 54%. lol. on clean rom 1.5. going to do a nandroid and restart I guess.

The update downloaded to my phone and i hit ok to install it but it didn't do anything. no reboot or anything. Any suggestions

Guys.. dsb9938 1.0.2 rom has had this base now for a long time. Been running it for a while now and very nice. I didn't like the themed version so I'm running the stockish build. Just saying

Firmware Update just hit...

52.5 mb. Took about 10 minutes
Won't install. (HTC unlocked, rooted, and some bloat uninstalled w/ TB.) Phone restarted after install & went to ClockworkMod Recovery screen.
Bottom of screen says:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying update package
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
The Software Update button on the phone refers to this page at vzw. It says it's a new baseband and doesn't even refer to ICS. Is it ICS?
I'd be interested to know if reverting to stock works for others or if it's even possible after uninstalling bloat.
Thanks.
Return to stock. that's why people shouldn't root if they still want to update their phones.

a rule of thumb is generally don't except any update unless your on pure stock (unrooted, htc locked or relocked, stock rom and etc.)

An ICS update is going to be more than ten times 52.5 mb.
stock updates will fail to install if you have a custom recovery.

No it won't. The phone will update the existing OS, not install a clean install, therefore it will only contain what needs to be updated...

When it goes from GB to ICS, then pretty much everything is getting replaced..
Someone might be able to extract the radios from that, but it looks like a Gingerbread-specific patch overall. UI changes to display five bar signal strength, etc.
And the fact that they released this right now does not speak well for the prospects of an imminent ICS release. Can't see why they'd deploy both in short order except that maybe ICS has been pushed out pretty far.
Finally, where are the soak testers? How does stuff like this get released and none of us have heard about it beforehand? Surely somebody in the user base is testing these things before release???

That is the same old 2.01.605.11 OTA update from late January/February. Nothing new at all.
The OP is receiving the update because he is on 1.02.605.6 firmware.
I think HTC should just do either one of these 2 options
1. Not even release ics since everyone here has it pretty much
2.Just release ICS already with source code or just take a sense 4/3.6 rom from xda and turn it into an ota.
Seriously we have everything working on a sense 3.6 port that HTC is probably still trying to work out.

1. What about those who run stock? They want ics too, think about how little this community really is compared to how many regular users there are
2. They will release the kernel source with it soon after as they have to by law
If they take one of the roms from xda they have to give credit which they won't give credit so they will just release it when it's ready
These aren't sense 3.6 ports, they are the real deal from HTC themselves leaked to the community
Sense 4 is a port but HTC will never release sense 4 to us

Thanks for uploading this. I have a question for you though. I installed this and everything went well but my flashlight app is gone, and I can't get my camera to open. Can you tell me what I did wrong? I appreciate any help. Thanks.
Thanks for all your efforts
Thanks once again for your efforts. AS suggested by you before, I am on 1.29 with bullet proof kernel.
Is this 1.27 worth effort going back for better audio during calls? I am getting wobbling voice during on call with speaker.
And also when i clicked stock kernel to download it says Nocturnal M7 stock. so is it not stock HTC/Tmobile kernel?
Thanks in advance

Should I just flash this instead of that TWRP backup you gave me in order to get my phone back to stock? Or will I be left with the same issues?
Hi,
Wondering if we need a corresponding firmware.zip for 1.27.531.x if we want to truly get back to stock after the 2.24.x update comes out for us on T-mobile?
I was thinking once the 2.24.x update hits us we're going to get a firmware update that could prevent us from getting back to stock 1.27.531.x for warranty purposes. Or if you just don't like 4.2.2 and you like 4.1.2 better.
I know we can flash the stock nandroid backup, but I'm thinking that stock nandroid based on 1.27.531.x won't work on a 2.24 firmware and updated hboot?
Or am I completely off and that nandroid would restore an updated firmware and hboot back to to 1.27.531.x?
(Man, really showing my noobish behavior today!)

Quick note to anyone coming from MJ9, this update can remove your root, and the MJ9 saferoot method will not work on it.
Happy updating to those out there!

If you updated to 4.3 you cannot go back to 4.1.1
Also going to 4.1.1 is touchy. If you were to go back you need to go to 4.1.2
Basically if you have the official 4.3 update and beyond you cannot unlock the bootloader or in some instances root.
I am using the Skynote Rc2.5 ROM but I am technically coming from 4.1.2. There is no official 4.2.x update for this version of the Note 2.

Right, I was asking because the ND3 update doesn't appear to be any different than MJ9 firmware wise except for what I assume are mostly changes in the baseband to accomodate the Telus bands. I would think that safeboot will be updated easily for this minor build but I am not any expert by any means.
I also saw people talking about for the same Telus update for the S3 to just Odin backflash VRUCNC1 4.3 to VRUCML1 4.3 with success (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575661&page=153). Anyone tried that? I might actually try it myself to get root back. I don't this new "update". I think VZ did this more to take away root than add some really necessary Canadian roaming anyway.

Curious to see what your results are if you do try this. I also feel that VZW did this update more to take root away, especially considering that the base band could have been incorporated into the (hopefully) upcoming 4.4 update.
Yup, this annoyed me enough that I finally got an account!
this update was just to steal root. they had already tried using the my verizon app to take it. telus uses gsm and the same lte frequency verizon uses. all vzw note 2's could already "roam" on telus. this was just vzw being f**ktards trying to control us.

I rerooted with saferoot. I was still having the connection issues with everything google related. I took the ota update again to try to fix the issue. The google issue fixed itself after the ota, but my root wasn't taken away this time. So now I'm on build vruand3 and have full root access. Maybe someone can shed some light on this , or it will help someone

First post! Yep, I'm a noob but I have read the rules and know what to do.
So, I'm just going to jump into the question. I have a brand spanking new G watch and want to install Gohma onto it. Thing is, I'm not sure if rooting will block OTA updates like it did on my G3 (still on 4.4.2 ) So if I were to root/unlock bootloader/install a rom/install a recovery, would this in any way make the regular method of updating change?
Anyone who has rooted their g watch and/or given it a custom recovery, please do let me know about OTA updates, anything I may need to know. Please. I'm desperate :'(
Thank you!
Yes it does break OTA updates. If you want to go back to stock the LG way.

Thanks for that reply. I am baffled by this though.
While you say it breaks the updates, I learned from another source side note that you must reject all OTA updates with a ROM installed... Implying you still get OTA updates.
If it really does break updates though, it would be cool to see some kind of after market operating system with updates become available. Preferably Cyanogenmod I recently flashed Cyanogenmod on my G3 I mentioned before, now I can update it on a different but similar OS.
I'm not sure if I can update Gohma, and I'm not sure how long it will be updated for. Therefore, I'm just gonna stick with stock for now unless I can confirm I can receive OTA.
Ok, here's another separate but not unrelated question. Can I receive updates after reverting back to stock assuming I could revert to stock recovery, if possible?
Thanks again.

CyanogenMod isn't a different OS, it's still Android. On another note, You can only update Gohma via the package the developer provides with each release, which flashes the system image up and modifies it after. You cannot receive ANY OTA packages while flashed to Gohma as the package asserts will fail during the attempt to install.
To answer your last question, yes. You can receive updates after reverting back to stock system image and stock recovery (recovery is needed.) as your watch will effectively be... Stock.

Brilliant! Thank you so much for your response, I feel loved <3
Sorry, I didn't mean a 'different OS' for CyanogenMod but... you know... nevermind.
I will need to find out how to revert back to stock recover though, I am a noob at that sort of thing and just used flashify
I will look for a tutorial on that but a link to one will be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

It's no problem, I'm glad to help. That said, I happened to get the link for the post I was attempting to direct you to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/development/script-lg-g-watch-tool-t2820863
Download that and use it to restore to stock. Restoring to stock with the latest version of the tool will put you on the latest OTA available at the time of it's release, which I believe is 5.0.2 since 5.1 hasn't been released yet for Android Wear.

Thank you very much. I decited to root and intall Gohma. Problem is, it is on 5.0.1, so I was offered an OTA update... I'm so confused. Will installing the update break the root + ROM, or break my entire device?

As the poster above me stated. It won't cause any problems, the asserts fail when it attempts to install causing it to simply exit from recovery and reboot. There's a tutorial somewhere on these forums (I completely forgot where this time) about neutering the update system so that it won't beg you to update anymore. Honestly though, I'm having more luck on 5.0.2 stock than I was having with Gohma, my battery life is pretty good too.

How do I know if my device has an update once rooted?

Like I rooted my 925I variant but now I see all these news articles about ram fixes and I am here like wtf do I do. Here's what I have:
Build: LRX22G.G925IDVU1AOD1
Baseband: G925IDVU1AOD2
SamMobile doesn't even have firmware for devices imported from India. I also see AOE3 for SM-G925I but it's for Trinidad? Like is it safe to flash another countries ROM?
And do I need to full wipe to update?
You come to xda and see if anyone opened a thread about a new update lol. Honestly that's how you don't... And if you have custom rom, you wait until the rom creator updates the rom. If not then you'll have to unroot to get the update

if you dont freeze sdm.apk or are running a custom rom then even with root you will get an alert of a software update but it will just fail to install.

well their wrong. on stock OS with root you still get update alerts and have many phones all root and all got alerts of updates while root but would fail to install them which is why i never worried about freezing SDM.apk

No it doesn't even let you check for updates. Have you tried it?

This is what I get: Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available
Same here. Changes
- pingpong root
- AdAway
- Disable 50% of the stuff that comes preinstalled (FB, WhatsApp, G+, Hangouts, etc. etc.)
No update notifications possible
Same question as original post ...
once rooted, how to know if my Rom is the latest or not??
I see some OE4 roms.. is it newer than mine? does it fix the RAM issues??
So many roms nr, it's confusing to know which one is newer...
(I have
build :LRX22G.G925FXXU1OACV
baseband : OCW)
Thanks for help
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
I'm rooted via pingpong and an update showed up. Waited for download to complete but update failed. Tried twice with similar results. Phone was rebooted and when I check again for check update, it says....
So how do I know if the update was applied? I believe this update doesnt change build. I still see 5.0.2
bottom line once rooted the only updates u will c or get is when or if u get a custom rom and they update that rom
Well, I get the same too on my 925I
"Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available"
There's a new ROM for my region G925IDVU1AOE4. I heard there are slight improvements (not sure how noticeable) on the RAM management. I'll update when I have the time.
I believe as long as you have the same model number, you can flash the ROM regardless of region.
