Cannot install apps from amazon app store

I have the amazon app store installed on my Nook tablet but none of the apps will install (tried 5 different ones). I keep getting the following error message:
'The application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again.
I obviously have allow unknown sources checked and also have a 8 GB Micro SD card installed which the Nook tablet recognizes. Any ideas on why I am getting the error message above? Thanks for any suggestions.
Are you doing App Install or Package Install? If anything, try re-installing the Amazon Appstore. Good luck
By any chance, are these apps that you bought and installed previously on another device? I had that problem with the Kindle app but not with a couple of others. I tried one or two other methods too, and finally had success getting Kindle from a free software website.
did you try resetting the nook? i didnt have the EXACT same issue but i did have issues downloading things and a simple reset fixed all of that for me. i still have things that say "this is not compatible with your device" which is crap because i sideloaded the .apks of the same apps that WERENT from the amazon store and they worked just fine.
That sounds like what happens when you use app installer rather than Package Installer.

I've just rebooted my nook Tablet to see if that fixed my problem, which is the same as the OP's except I haven't been able to install ANY .apks after setting the "allow 3rd party apps" checkbox.
Specifically, I'm trying to get mobovideo to install, also four or five other video players, and Amazon Marketplace. I can download all of these no problem, but when I click on the download it tells me it can't install and says something about trying to "Archive then Unarchive" the file and try again. Which I would try if I knew where downloaded .apks go...I did find my second Am Market download (fat fingered the install so downloaded twice) under My Downloads, but the only option I get when I touch it is "Delete".
I'm downloading all this stuff on the device. Is that my problem? Does the sideloading need to be done from a microSD?
Thanks!!!

Here is an apk of Moboplayer that I installed no problem on nook tablet.
Just ran a quick test -- While some apps won't load due to incompatibility, the couple of successful tests I did worked fine. I did do them as package installs.
This is using a sideloaded copy of the Amazon Market.
The fix was to take the micro sd card out of the Nook and delete the entire contents of the card and then reinstall the amazon app store. All apps install fine now. Strange since I deleted the contents of the card before inserting it originally. Not sure why I had to do it again...

When an app is incompatible, do you get a message like the ones we've been posting, or something more helpful?
Can anybody comment on my using a direct download rather than sideloading via microSD? Is this simply not the way to do it?
bkerk25 -- thanks, I'll give that apk a try in the morning and let ya know
I have used both sideloading and direct download with few issues at all. Some apps simply won't install right now either way. I have recieved the same error message you described a couple of times.

It's a light error message that states the program is not compatible with my device. No details on why
Alrighty. I'm not sure what's different, but I went back to comptonsoft.com/test/ and tried downloading AppMenu. This time it worked, I was able to install it and view the "secret" options which I haven't seen since the initial attempt, and am now browsing Amazon Apps. I hadn't attempted to go back to that app since rebooting, so maybe that's what I needed to do. Also, I was habitually hitting App Installer first, then Package Installer when that failed, so I dunno, maybe that messes things up.
Anyway, thanks for this great workaround xda folken!

I'm having the same problem. I've tried:
Removing and replacing the sd card
Using a different sd card
Trying to install all kinds of different apps
Resetting the device
Reinstalling the amazon app store (actually, I get the same error when i try to install even that or Appmenu now)
Factory reset
Nothing works and it's very frustrating. I think I might try to exchange it for a new one, unless someone here has a better idea

maybe try transferring the apk's from your sd card to the system\app folder using ES file explorer or root explorer and install from there?

[Q] You don't Have Any Devices...:(

Hi,
I have just been able to Root my Nook Tablet...but I'm stuck on the "Android Market" step...
I can't seem to be able to install anything simply because I don't have any "android" device associated with my Google Account...
How can I "add" the Nook Tablet as my Android Device in the Android Market?
Many thanks!

When you first go into the android market for the first time, you should be prompted to login to your google account. For me, i had a gmail account and just used that. It will then sync the NT with your google account.
Hi,
Thanks for the tip. I actually did try to login from the NT on the Android Market webpage with my google account and got to the same result....
The Android Market webpage simply complained that I have no android device associated with my google account...

I'm not exactly sure how to fix the problem then. I couldn't buy off the android market because it wasn't sync'd to my device, but as soon as I finished the root, restarted the NT, installed go launcher, and went into google apps on the NT, it sync'd and I was okay to buy apps from either the NT or from the webpage.
You are sure you completed the root process correctly AND restarted the nook (I had to manually restart it after root process because it didn't auto restart, by holding down power button until prompted to shut down, then push ok on screen and then turn back on). The first time I tried rooting I couldn't get google market to sync because I hadn't restarted the nook since I *thought* I was done with root, but really wasn't.

Hi, thanks for the reply...
I actually am not sure I did a restart on the NT after rooting...I was trying to install the Go Launcher EX from the Android Market directly (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex&hl=en)...should I try installing a different version Go Launcher from one of the links provided here in the forum?
Thanks again,
Gizmo

The android market will not run until fully rooted, which requires a restart after the nookandzergy.bat file is finished, before you do anything else. If you haven't restarted, try that first. If it still doesn't work, try a factory reset, then do the root again.
Go Launcher EX is what I used. I got it just like Albert did on the youtube video that is linked in Indirect's root post. The only difference is I had to manually restart.

[Q] deleted market

hi
i erased all my sd card
and from that there is deleted market and all the others app
my android version is 2.3.4 on HTC HD2
iii tryed so many tips to run the android ics version and the others but i cant find no one of toolkit nand that can work,, all of those were crashed or something similar
S im searching how to backup my market or how to run another android version like ics or the similar i have 2.3.4 that includes market
if you can help with some links that are in work ,
IF IS THERE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS FOR THIS JUST HELP ME !!!
If you google "android market apk" you will find many links to download the market. Put this on your SD card and install it.
As far as the backup, Google will backup your settings, including what was installed and will restore upon a factory wipe/reconfigure of your handset (google account).
I also use appbrain - will show you what you have installed and you can easily re-install apps on a new phone.

Rooted Nook no market

Hi everyone, so recently I rooted my nook to the CM7. Everything seemed to work fine, till I noticed that I dont have a market (google Play) and when I go Dev tools, it wont let me login to google. It says : the application Dev Tools (process com.android, development) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.) I have tried over and over. and nothing. Also I tried to manually download the APK for the Market, and when i click on it it says the same thing the Dev Tools does for the google login. Someone please help me.

Please go read @CubanLuke88's post on terminology.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1666065
I think it would help because rooting is one thing and installing CM7 is another thing. But I think the most important thing to note is that when you install a new operating system, be it CM7 or CM9, google requires that the GAPPS ( package of Google applications ) must be separate from the OS. So it is always and I repeat always a double step when putting in the new OS. You would load in the operating system and then you would do an second load in of the GAPPS immediately after. Before rebooting. I think a utube video would be good to watch

[Q] issue with the market - rooted archos 70 IT 250Go

hi there,
i'm seeking your help because i think i've done something wrong with my archos ;(
i've tried with a software called link2sd to include the play store in the rom, so i wont have to go thru arctools everytime i'm resetting android.
But when i did, play store stopped working... tried to get rid of it, cudnt uninstall it, so went to /system/data and deleted the apk files.
But now it won't install anymore. Arctools is still downloading the files, when i click on "install apps", arctools is telling me as usual that the files have been installed and that i need to reboot. But when i reboot, there's absolutely nothing happening, no market, no google talk, nothing.
How can i get the play store back to my device?
Thanks for your help
If you used the chulri root, read the first page again that talks about the unionFS.
