Your value is falling so much - HTC EVO 3D

The price of this device has fallen very much.
Are there problems with this device?
What is the cause for this?
This device has slightly better specs then the Sensation then why is it selling for 100 euro less then the Sensation?

Umm...same thing that happens to all devices after they are on the market for a while...they lose value when new devices come out.

Nothing's wrong with it, it's just been out for 6 months now and people believe that the 3D is the only additional thing it's got going for it (it's not)...
It's just not terribly popular, they advertised left and right 3d this and 3d that and well, nobody cares... the 3D games on the market are - meh... and it takes a lot of equipment to see your 3d videos elsewhere.

Thank you for your answer. Is the internal storage enough for you?
Well the good side is that you will get a lot more users. It has gone up in the sales charts, because 3d or not 3d, it is a cheap Sensation at this price.

Yep, at one point, I had about 320 apps installed, of course some on the SD card and still had about 120MB of free space available.

why is it a surprise that a phone that has been out for almost 8 months now has dropped in price...
classic move by sprint when they are getting ready to release another phone. the galaxy nexus is coming out and they aren't going to charge 300 bucks for it like **** verizon, they will charge 200. so, naturally, they can't charge you 200 dollars for both because one is outdated, so they drop the price on the 3D.

The EVO 3D's value seems to be falling at an alarming rate. It is like the black sheep of HTC phones.
My rooted near launch day EVO 4G sold for $320 approximately a month before the EVO 3D came out.
This phone will sell no where near that amount.

I am in Europe so Verizon and Sprint have no relevance to me.
I have a quite good knowledge of the market and I tell you this is not normal.
Nexus at 490, Sensation XE at 450 euros, Samsung S II sells at 430, the Sensation at 380 and the Evo at 270 together with the LG 2x at 270.
These are new unlocked phones. For the price of a Nexus I can buy 2 Evo 3D right now.

well yeah, but if you find the right buyer anything can be sold at the price you desire.
take your case, for example, maybe that guy didn't have an upgrade on his contract, and didn't have insurance or anything but needed a new phone and a good one. he is looking at wholesale no matter what he does, so to pick yours up for 320 isn't an amazing deal, but stilla hell of a lot better than 400

No, no these are European retail prices.
Thank you all for your input!

Makes no sense to me why It's so cheap ppl talk so bad about this phone but I find it near flawless.. the battery life for me has been amazing I get like a day and a half with moderate usage. Internal memory is perfect I have like almost 100 apps and am not even using half of it. Only issue I had was that it wasn't as smooth as others but with the new 2.17 base It's super smooth now and will only get better as ics comes. For me if It's that cheap I say go for it I have friends with both the gs2 and the sensation and they both see more issues than me and id say It's still on par with the newest phones out. Until a phone comes out with an a15 dual or quad core this phone will match the best.

I don't know what it's like in the EU, when it comes to phone devaluation over time... but here in the States, it's the same deal - 3VOs are about $100 cheaper, than they used to be... I had an EVO 4G that had been stolen... I had insurance (Asurion), and they sent me a crap 4G that was an obvious refurb; the camera lens was pointing down, and to the left (!), and, the phone itself - as far as sound quality during calls went - was terrible. I packed it back up, called Asurion, and pitched a b**** - they sent me ANOTHER 4G, and the cover didn't fit correctly - so, I went to a local Sprint retailer, and raised hell. I ended up speaking to arbitration specialist at Sprint, and sent the phone back... on the next day, I received a brand-new, made in Taiwan, in the box - EVO 3D. Upon further inspection, I found out that the boot was 1.4 - and promptly went to Revolutionary I/O - got root, and everything's peachy. ;-)

Pretty sure these guys are right on. I've not seen another phone with better hardware released yet. They will come, but this is still top of the line hardware wise. And 1gb rom and ram Awesome! Plus it's been out for a long time.

Idiot's Guide to Nexus S and EVO3D - For Idiots.

So after trying to decide between the two for myself, I've decided to try to help other like-minded users find the phone that's best for them.
If you see anything incorrect or missing, please let me know!
I'll start with the Nexus S 4G
Software:
Ships with Gingerbread
Will receive upgrades first
Will likely run Icecream (HC reworked for phones)
AOSP
No bloatware, and no Sprint apps
Hardware:
1GHz Hummingbird Processor
512MB RAM
4" Super AMOLED screen
16gb internal storage
NO MicroSD card slot
NFC Capability
5MP rear camera
VGA Front camera
1500 mAh Li-ion battery
GPU rated as good, if not slightly better than EVO3D's Adreno 220**
Unique Contour display*
*The contour display can best be seen here. Essentially, the display curves slightly at the ends and reviews have reported it feeling nice against your face. Aside from the feel, the SAMOLED display grants more vivid colors, more luminance, and more contrast, making text easy to read at most sizes.
**Which means the Nexus S will be able to display graphics on a similar caliber of the EVO3D, which is much higher than the EVO.
Layman's terms? Have you noticed how bad the N64 Emulator is on the EVO? It should run beautifully on the Nexus S, and even better on the EVO3D.
Media
DLNA Support for wirelessly streaming media from the phone to your TV or computer
Supported video, audio, and image formats are not known yet, but we can safely assume the standards are there.
Release date: "Spring" 2011
Price: $199 on contract
Form:
An important spec of phones to some users is also their outside form. Here's what we've got on the Nexus

}
Size and weight:
63mm x 123.9mm x 10.88mm
129g
4" contour display
Feel: CNET and user reviews say it feels light, and the material feels ´lighter´without metal parts.
This will make it feel more airy, smaller, and less bulky than the current EVO, which is very similar to the EVO3D
Users have reported a 'cheapy' plastic feel to the Nexus S, similar to the Epic. Other than that, there's no decision one way or another if that could be an issue when dropping the phone.
Advice? Don't drop your phone, no matter which model. Or buy a case of some sort.
Summary:
If you end up selling your EVO for $200 (easily done), you'll be able to upgrade to this phone for free. Why would you do that? Well, it's free, and it's a hardware and, eventually, a software upgrade from the EVO. While it boasts almost the same specs as the EVO, the processor is newer and the screen displays more colors with more vibrance.
Currently, the TMO Nexus S has benchmarks that run circles around the EVO and battery life that has been reported to last ~20 hours off-charger. Sound good to you? Same to me.
The phone will definitely last you through 2011, and likely a good chunk, if not all, of 2012. I anticipate it will also be receiving Android versions 2.4 and 3.1 (If that's Ice Cream), which will be more than capable of running on this phone, even if Quad-Core phones are released and run it as well.
Aside from the hardware, the software will be top-notch. You'll receive the latest Android software updates as soon as they're released, and the dev community should be buzzing on this phone, considering its AOSP nature.
Who is this phone good for?
Economically-minded users who want a boost from their current EVO and/or want a great developing experience. If the latest and greatest Google software is your thing, this phone is for you. Keep in mind that Nexus S already runs the Honeycomb SDKs and it will be a breeze to port the AOSP Honeycomb to the Nexus S once the source is released. Further more, AOSP will finally be developing code for WiMax chips, which will help ROMs like CM in incorporating WiMax. You'll also get WiMax on CM8 (When released) first, most likely.

Intro:
"How do you follow up one of the most popular, most successful, biggest and fastest phones of 2010? In the case of the recently announced Sprint HTC EVO 3D, you give it a higher resolution screen, 3D recording and playback capability, and you open up a whole new world of user generated content. Oh, and you make it even faster and more powerful."
-Source
EVO 3D
Software:
Ships with Gingerbread
Includes Sense 2.0 (?)
Includes Sprint Software
Hardware:
1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor
1GB RAM (Which can be expanded* into the External Storage, giving you up to 5GB RAM, which diminishes as you fill internal storage, down to a minimum of 1GB)
1GB Internal Storage (Previous rumors stated 4GB. This still isn't clear or confirmed at all either way.)
4.3" 3D qHD Display with a resolution of 960x540
Expandable memory: 8GB microSD card included: supports up to 32GB
Dual 5 MP cameras used to capture 3D images and videos
1.3MP front-facing camera
1730 mAh Li-ion battery
HDMI port
No kickstand... Devastating, I guess?
*Much like a page file on a PC This has also been pointed out as a rumor, and is MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE
Media:
DLNA for wirelessly streaming media from the phone to your TV or computer
Audio supported formats:
Playback: .AAC, .AMR, .OGG, .M4A, .MID, .MP3, .WAV, .WMA (Windows Media Audio 9)
Recording: .AMR
Video supported formats:
Playback:.3GP, .3G2, .MP4, .WMV (Windows Media Video 9), .AVI (MP4 ASP and MP3), .XVID (MP4 ASP and MP3)
Recording: .3GP
Form:
The EVO3D is similar in look and shape to the EVO. Here's what we've got
Size and Weight:
126mm x 65mm x 12.05mm (4.96" x 2.56" x 0.47")
170 grams (6.0 ounces) with the battery
Feel:
Taken from Engadget's hands-on review:
"As we'd mentioned in our hands-on, we immediately noticed that the EVO 3D didn't feel particularly heavy or bulky in the hand; in fact, we would've guessed that it was a bit lighter than the 4G. Well, turns out they're almost exactly the same weight -- holding the two one right after the other, we couldn't detect a difference.
As for dimensions, the 4G is actually wider -- the 3D's quite a bit more manageable when you're holding it, especially if you don't have giant paws -- and they're right around the same thickness."
Price: unknown
Release date: "Summer" 2011 (June)
Summary:
If you want the latest Sprint power-phone with latest industry hardware and technology - You won't be disappointed. While there are mixed reviews and feelings about the 3D feature of the phone, it seems that 3D is completely optional and is simply an added bonus for buying this already great phone.
Battery life is undetermined right now. While it boasts an industry-leading 1730 mAh Li-ion battery and the processor is some times number more efficient than the current EVO, people speculate it to have as much batter life as the current EVO.
In short: Like your EVOs now, this phone will be fast, bold, and furious, taken to a new extreme.
EDIT: Since the question has been asked on the forums, I've done a little bit of research:
How will the EVO 3D's display hold up against iPhone 4's?
To answer it shortly, the EVO 3D has a slightly lower resolution (960x540) than the iPhone 4 (960x640). Being that the EVO3D has a larger screen and a lower resolution, this means that the PPI (pixels per inch) will be lower, resulting in a slightly less sharp display.
Who is this phone good for?
Power-users who want only the best for themselves. Want to play the latest 3D graphics-intensive games on your phone? EVO3D is for you (please don't mistake 3D graphics for 3D images)
If you buy into the 3D thing, you'll also be able to shoot and view photos and videos in 3D.
This phone has power, screen size, and speed that make it worthwhile to keep far into the future.

Deal running through 4/16, but call Sprint to check.
Thanks! I already knew all of this, but it'll help some people here for sure.
Also, the Nexus S has a contour display, which you didn't mention.
Oh right, thanks! I'll add that in for sure. Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you thought it was helpful Even if not for you.
I like how this was titled, Idiot's Guide.....for idiots.
No way lmao.
Haha, thanks man.
I'm in no way an expert, I'm a slightly above-average user when it comes to knowledge of hardware and software. I'm just compiling info that I dug around for myself and ask tons of questions on --- and I'm putting it in (hopefully) layman's terms.
Do you all think I should include a comparison of the two phones to the iPhone 4, since everyone seems to use the iPhone as a comparison tool?

I took a long look at nexus s, it may be a bit better than evo 1st gen but I dont care for the look of it. The plastic back, reminds me of the Epic, feels cheap in the hand

Gizmodo review...ouch that hurt

http://gizmodo.com/5812185/htc-evo-3d-oh-my-god-make-it-stop-hurting
Gizmodo has hardly anything nice to say about the evo 3d....i don't really care I'll be picking mine up on launch day anyway, but I just thought I would share with everyone else.
I noticed that, it's like everyone wants to complain about the 3d being ****ty while turning a blind eye to the raw power that is Evo 3D! You don't have to use 3d people!
Sent from my Samsuck Vibrant
The problem is that this is the first 3d phone. They aren't going to rate it that well. You can read the bias in some of the reviews and tell that they're overdoing it.
No the problem is Gizmodo are one of the biggest group of iPhone fanboys. Though I'm sure the newness of 3d isn't going to instantly wow anyone (until its on an iphone and its called innovation)
Very happy EVO 4G owner, but now after all these reviews, for sure waiting on the Sprint Galaxy S2 coming out end of July / early August, then will decide.
One of my beefs with the EVO-3D, is the gimmicky "3D" feature. I can give two ****s about 3D on my phone, would rather have seen HTC spent more development time in making it a thinner phone, while improving other features. And including the Green Hornet in 3D, and Spider Man 3D, who ****ing cares about that bull****, is that truly a selling point ? To who ?
I think HTC and Sprint dropped the ball a little here, they should have just made the EVO-2, and made it super bad ass specs to destroy the Galaxy S2, and should have tossed that "3D" idea in the trash for now.
Proud owner of my EVO 4G, but crying a little on the inside after reading lots of these reviews today.
Its funny how so many people here at xda have stated they could care less about 3D and would buy the phone without those capabilities while at the same time, the 3D feature is a HUGE focus point for reviewers. I could care less about the 3D, it will be fun to play with I'm sure, but its not a major concern for me in my decision to buy or not buy this phone.

The 3d will be neat to mess with and see if development can make it better.. but even with bad reviews, I've never not seen a phone get better then it is at stock out of the box after groups like Cyanogen get their versions of Android on the phone.. I'm not stressing out, I will be waving to T-Mobile next Friday.

Most [H]ardcore geeks I know, don't want the EVO-3D for the "3D", they want is for being more of the EVO-2, or a next gen EVO, with double the spec's as the original and Sense 3.0
I wish reviewers, would look at the EVO-3D that way, step back away from the "3D" aspects of the phone, and just review based on much improved battery life...the cool updated Sense 3.0...and faster hardware with dual cores, more memory and RAM...and the higher res screen...Those updates are very worthy of a high review in my opinion.
The phone is a beast. 3D is cool I'll be happy to have it. 95% of reviews are b.s. buy what u want not what some guy u don't know says.

I just don't understand what spec isn't up to the highest level. I mean Yeh could use more internal memory but not a big deal with apps2sd. Camera its already proven 8,5 or 1.47838 doesn't matter as much as sensor ala iPhone. So people who says shouldn't have focused on 3d what spec would u raised the bar on and no saying quad core don't work tablets aren't even there.

3D is not important to me. I mean, I'll probably use it in the first month or so, but then I'll probably forget about it. That being said, I don't think it would be fair for any reviewer to disregard the 3D, as this phone is going to be the "trendsetter" for the niche. Just like the OG Evo was the trendsetter for large screens and kickstands.
I do believe, however, that the 3D feature should not be given as much weight during these reviews.
They did mention that it's FAST. But 3D hurt guy's eyes. Some people are more sensitive to these things than others. What I am after, is a solid phone and new Sense. (Sorry AOSP crowd, I like my pig with a professional makeup on)
I think all the reviews and people wanting the phone need to ask themselves would you buy this phone if there was no 3d?
I know I would buy it just because of the specs and sense update.... This is a definite upgrade from my og evo
The 3d is just icing on the cake....
And the whole experience of the phone isn't 3d.. Only 3d movies videos and pictures will be in 3d... Your normal day to day use of the phone (text, email, etc) isn't going to be in 3d...
And as someone else pointed out... As soon as an "i" whatever comes with 3d it will then be accepted...

$5 bucks says that if the phone did not have the 3D feature, or the 3D feature was not the headlining feature, it would have had better reviews across the board for all websites that examined the phone.
I understand people don't like the idea of 3D being "crammed" down their throats, but it's not like the phone is more expensive than lets say the Sensation. In fact it's cheaper.
Overall, its a huge spec bump (understatement) compared to the original evo.

Exactly, well said! You remove the 3D which will have limited use I don't care who you are. This thing will be insane. I'm a sense fan, so I'm looking forward to 3.0. Like what you like, but you remove the bloated monkey from this phonethis phone and it's going to be a while before another phone comes out that would be as fast or buttery smooth as this phone would be.
* this post was not intended to start the "Oh yeah the Photon.. Blah blah." Or "Well the GSII.. Blah blah blah"... So please lets not start it I can view that crap on any number of also non related threads around here.
The only one thing I don't get is people only concern themselves over the 3D but when it comes to its power they just say its fast. They even go so far as to say it never lags even slightly. But they all hate on the 3D so to me this phone is awesome to still get a 7/10 or 8/10 cause remove the 3D and those are all 9/10 or 10/10. I do want the 3D because I will have fun with it, but It is not the reason I am buying the EVO. Its the community and the specs and 'I' like the design as well. I just hope it doesn't bother my already F'ed up eyes.
I like how they call it a "Lightning Review" as in, "We don't give two ****s about this unless it says "Apple" on the back, so he's what our 5 min with the device looked like"

Why is the Evo3D underrated

So I'm an new owner off the HTC Evo 3D and that is all just because this phone was highly underrated and that should be reason why you can get it now at bargain prices.
I got mine for € 289 but with promotions it could be even cheaper, like lowest price I had seen was € 269 but the upped it to € 289 so I needed to pay € 20 more.
But the HTC Evo 3D is better then the HTC Sensation ( XE ) because we have 1GB of Ram and that is much, because the HTC Sensation ( XE ) has only 768MB Ram and that is the same as what my old phone the HTC Desire HD had.
Yes the HTC Sensation got an 8MP camera and can make movies at 1080p and the Evo 3D got an 5MP camera ( Well two in fact ) and can make movies in 720P and also in 720P 3D movies.
Pictures are 5MP but they are off decent quality and what you expect off an camera on an phone, the DHD had also 8MP but 3MP more does not mean better quality.
But when I bought an HTC phone for my girlfriend I also choosed the HTC Sensation for her, that was just because the price, because I like the design off the Evo 3D better because it looks more manly.
So now my gf has the HTC Sensation and I have the HTC Evo 3D, which brings me finally on equal level with her and I finally have an front facing camera to. I still remember what people said about the front facing camera when the chat software like Skype did not support it yet, but I really missed it when I had mine DHD.
Now about biggest part off the HTC Evo 3D that is underrated and that is the 3D capabilities, the 3D looks really good on the HTC Evo 3D and someone on XDA also told me because off the 3D we have an really good screen which is much better then other screens like the one on HTC Sensation.
I already tried the 3D and even though we got to look on the 4.3 inch screen, I think it looks good, you can see the 3D really good, I tried avatar and when that guy jumped in the water you could see nice 3D.
So I'm going watch 3D movies on it and I definitely going make some more 3D pictures, especialy from my girlfriend, because what is better then seeing your gf in 3D when she not around you.
Making 3D movies I have not tried so much yet, but it looks good to when I tried it, because you can really see depth, so I can finally say that I got an valid reason of making pictures and movies with my phone, because it can take 3D.
For 2D I will stick with mine Sony Cybershot DSC-W350, because I still believe an compact camera does the job better, but the camera on our phone can take decent pictures to, no doubt about that.
underrated
I think the evo 3d is being underrated b/cos many people think the 3d is not good enough but for me i don´t really care abt the 3d.
What i like abt the phone is the hardware which is very important for me, i have dhd too and i feel evo is far beter than dhd.
I believe when htc release their sorce code we will enjoy this beast more
WELCOME TO EVO 3D
I think its just nice, now an can watch on the go 3D, just download some 3D movies and i'm watching 3D movies in the air plane.
For daily usage you will not watch that often on the phone. But I could now say like, oh I wanna watch the 3D version off that movie so I will go go lie on bed and watch it on the phone.
I wanted to post this image in the OP but I forget.

It's outrageously cheap in ASDA now!
Prices have dropped significantly. The usual price is now around 269€ where I live, but it has been on sale in some places for as low as 199€ which is just insane if you compare it to the handsets you'll get for that price.
I agree with the OP and others. The 3D capability is nice, but it was not the selling point. Name another phone currently available that has more RAM, better screen, and faster processor. There are not many. This phone, hardware wise is nearly best out there, even almost a year since releasing.

I fully agree with that statements above this phone is amazing. I just bought 2 more evo3 d's for my kids at 49 dollars each, all other phones that have compareable specifications are 200 dollars and above... Evo3d is the best bargain out there give you the most bang for your dollar

Yeah I could, but it doesn't hurt if its in the third post. I think some countries have cheaper prices, like the UK, the webshops in NL who sell HTC devices at much lower price are usual selling imported models from the UK or DE, you literally get deceived by those online webshops, you think you are buying an NL HTC, but in fact its an UK model or from another EU country like DE, FR, it overcame me, then you get an ****ty travel adapter with it because UK does use other power plug.
The pricedrop also has it sidedown for people who payed the full price, because they will lose so much if they would want to sell it, where as the people who buy now at discount price won't lose much.
I even sold mine HTC Desire HD, so this upgrade only costed me € 109 and an new silicon case from € 1,20 and one spare battery for € 2,50 all from ebay.
Would HTC still produce the HTC Evo 3D? The HTC Desire HD is also still sold and at an similar price as the HTC Evo 3D is being sold right now.
But HTC Desire HD was released in begin off Q4 2010 and the HTC Evo 3D was released in begin off Q3 2011 I believe. I just checked price off HTC Sensation and that is now € 350, so in my country the price difference between HTC Evo 3D and HTC Sensation is not so big, but where I bought it, in Germany there is about € 90 difference as the HTC Sensation there costs about € 380 ( I only look on internet ).
fast phone alright, but battery life is poo

yeah at 207quid it's a steal!
I had DHD before, was really happy with my phone and wasn't going to upgrade it until late 2012/early 2013, thinking the Evo 3d can't be MUCH better than the DHD.
And I was so wrong, as much as I love my DHD, Evo 3D is just so much better. Much better screen in terms of resolution and brightness, dual-core, larger battery capacity and 3D as well!
I'm still in shock that I got this at 207quid, only paid about 70quid for the upgrade.
Yes I am very happy with the phone and it's MANY features and capabilities, 3D being only one but I do love the 3D features. I love the games too, just bought Shadow Gun on the market for .49 !!! It's incredible!!!! Didn't know our phone could run games that look this good. Plus throw in Chainfire3D, which I just bought, and you get even more game options. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with this phone!!! I'm surprised it's not more popular, however I did notice that EVERYONE on CSI MIAMI has one!!
I didn't really rate 3D before but I do actually think its pretty cool for photos etc.
Shame I have no 3D TV or anything yet
I have been watching Avatar in 3D yesterday, looks really good though, but I can see if you watch 3D the screen uses alot off energy, but still its really nice to watch 3D.
You see an movie on an very other way.
Darmstadt, Germany got it last week for 199 €
thats not even 1/3 of the htc-official-price (699 €).
so thats damn nice.
i got mine for 269 €.
yes, the evo 3d ist underrated. because the marketing was bullsh*t. or...there wasnt even marketing in germany.
i heard about the evo 3d because of engadget.com
otherwise i wouldnt even know about it.
it got more ram, which surely is a great deal for newr android versions.
got s3 cpu plus adreno 220. quite nice. not as good as sgs2 but surely a damn beast in this price category.
in germany, there isnt a phone, that is that nice and that cheap.
next thing would be sgs+ oder sgw..they cost about 280 oder 300...
the evo 3d is a truly winner, but treated as a looser....
htc, burn in hell for that treatment and the lack of marketing!
I blame Sprint. Releasing the iPhone killed it.

i feel like stupid that i paid 369€ for evo 3d in cyprus.
When my contract has been finished i hesitate to change carrier and buy a sensation XE or a Sensation... price was too high so i signed up to a new carrier for 32€/Month for one year, and got my Evo 3D for 99€...
i think hardware differences between sensation or sensation XE are not worth the difference of price... and 3d is funny !

Was the EVO3d a failure?

Why doesnt sprint even sell this anymore? Why has no other phone company put 3d on their phones?
It sux that I can only share 3d videos with other evo 3d users. What happened here?
A short answer would be yes, was a mass failure in the business sence.... The LTE was originally gonna be 3d enabled as well but with lackluster sales of our 3d model that plan was nixed quickly. Too many buyers thought that it was nothing more than a gimmick as did myself . I would much rather had a the 8mp cam on the original EVO as it was indeed a far superior cam.

It more likely had to do with the 3D capabilities not being utilized. I have so few apps that use the 3D features (less that do it correctly). The EVO 3D is a great phone in many aspects, but never received the 1st party and 3rd party support it deserved.

Content drives phone features. Not enough 3D content really killed the concept. Kind of a failure on HTC's part not get developers on board before the launch, IMHO.
Without numerous 3D devices there is no reason for developers to generate 3D content, without 3D content there is no reason for manufacturers to develope 3D devices. Since only two phones (that I can think of) came equipped with 3D screens in the US, there was never a boom of 3D content, and thus, never a reason for other manufacturers to introduce 3D devices.
HTC, LG and perhaps even Sprint should have offered something in the way of 3D content to attract adopters. However, 3D users were left to forge our own path and we never found a suitable use for 3D besides showing our friends a 3D picture and saying, "Isn't that cool!" That just isn't enough to make 3D a needed addition to a smartphone.
That being said, the Evo 3D is still a great phone and compares favorably to many phones being released today. So why did Sprint decide to give it the axe, especially considering the OG Evo lived well on into the life-span of the 3D? I would say LTE has a lot to do with it. With Sprint moving to LTE there was no reason to jeep the 3D on-board with the arrival of the Evo 4G LTE.
Both WiMAX and LTE (or even 3G) were never a problem for me since I don't have them in my area, or will any time soon unless I jump to Verizon, so for now I'll stick with the 3D nobody seems to want, I still think it is a great phone.
I kinda went on for a bit there, huh? lol.

Fantastic post, I completely agree with this. 3D just never really caught on (at least in the US) for a variety of reasons. I'm sad that they sacrificed a better camera for 3D, but what can you do?

I agree as well. I also think that 3D on the unit was pushed without a big "this phone works in 2D just like any other phone" disclaimer. Many of my non-phone-savvy friends had heard of the Evo3D, but thought it was full time 3D. If they would have sold the phone sans 3D, I think it would have had a much better outcome. It was the best phone at the time as far as hardware is concerned.

Took me a while to get mine in the right comfort zone..
Im on the eVO LTE but kept my 3D as a back up.
Been waiting for ICS so i can see how much better it will run with that.

My opinion is. The 3d feature was a failure not the actual phone.
I love my evo 3d its performance is great and the screen is amazing.
when i bought mine for 100 buckets i didn't care much about the 3d feature but more on the performance.
I don't know... I came from a CDMA Hero. For the first few weeks, my 3D felt like the most powerful phone in the world to me. Now, I'm constantly getting annoyed with things. No official support for CM9. None of the custom ROMs really offer what I want (because I want a functional CM9 ROM...) and now the Sense 3.6 ICS ROMs give me trouble with my university's Wifi security, so I can't use Wifi at all on-campus. With Sprint's crappy network and signal penetration, I'm stuck on 1X when I am standing by a window. It's very, very frustrating.
I really wish there weren't 18 months left on my family's contract. I'd love to switch to a GSM provider. I honestly wish I had a GS3 or even a GS2. Used a friend's GS2. I could see tons of stuff running in the notification area and stuff all over the homescreen. It was running like butter. I was seriously jealous. I don't even want to think about how nice a GS3 would be at this point.
My 3D will get me through the next 18 months... but I'm definitely going to recommend my family switches to a better carrier.

I walked into the Sprint store with a 4G the got run over by a car and there wuz a party. The guest of honor waa 3D - how could I sleeze outa honoring the guest of honor.
Last thing I cared about wuz 3D pics. A camera button - epic.
I luv the phone, sans the gimmic. and yes iTz, I've grown to luv the 3D pics too.
Now ICS without sense 4 iz criminal HTC/Sprint. The phone can handle it and U Oit2us -
Well I for one like my 3D and have no desire to jump ship until the LTE network hits my area (Probally 2025) or a 3D LTE EVO hits the market. I use my 3D and my mhl adapter to play 3D movies onto my 3d tv. I currently have limited 4g access at my Home so until that stops I'm pretty happy

My First Impressions on the HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello guys! After months of false starts, broken promises, sudden price increases ("Yeah I can do $300...well okay how about $320 and you pay shipping?"), and other bits of misfortune, I have finally gotten my hands on this amazing device. So I thought I'd share my thoughts on it after giving it a few days to try out. You never know who would be interested in such an opinion.
**warning
This thread is absolutely useless and is only your friendly neighborhood XDA News Writer sharing an opinion. Feel free to not take it seriously.
**Note
Yes, I am aware the phone was released awhile ago. This is my first impressions personally, not world's first impressions.
Okay, since I suck at review-type posts in general, I'm going to start typing now. Stop reading at the end or when you're bored
Screen:
The screen is gorgeous. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The size and resolution of this phone is simply beautiful.
Camera:
Above average but not "omgzorz amazing". It is good enough to skip buying a point-and-click. Not good enough for photographers. Thankfully, I am not a photographer. The features for the camera are nice, but I'm not an Instagram person (or even a photo filter person). So half the stuff I realistically use, and half I probably never will.
Form Factor/Hardware/Buttons:
This is by far the thinnest phone I've ever owned. I came from the Galaxy Nexus (which is a great phone too), and this one is so thin I actually had problems handling it for the first day. I kept forgetting the phone was that thin. Personally, I like the capacitive buttons over the on-screen buttons. I know all my screen real estate is being dedicated to apps. None of that "4.65 inch screen...but really you're only getting 4.3 inches because of the soft buttons" crap. Everything else is well placed and looks good. The kickstand is way better than the OG EVO. The back plastic plate isn't nearly as hard to get off as video reviewers seem to make it sound (read: they're pansies ).
Performance:
Holy crap. Once I got it tuned to how I like it, not even Google Voice lags (it lags in Bluestacks running on my freaking 8-core processor for Christ's sake). When I first got it and it was first activated, I had some hiccups in the app drawer and pinch-to-zoom in Chrome. I've since installed a custom ROM (MeanROM), set the governor to ondemand, clocked by processor back to 1.5GHz (stock MeanROM comes 1.7GHz OC), and I've had no lag at all ever since. Usually a phone I own lags in some way that's slightly annoying but not a deal breaker (i.e. when scrolling a list in Plume, that slight "pause" when you switch the home screen right after turning the screen on, or taking unusually long to make menu selections). This doesn't seem to have that problem.
Battery/Temp:
The battery on this thing is incredible. Yes, it's not removable. I never used multiple batteries anyway. I actually moved today and the phone held up like a champ. After packing up my computer and TV, my phone was my only source of entertainment for a good while. At the time of this writing, I have 35% after 14 hours (on track for ~20 hours, if I felt like waiting that long). It was at least moderate usage. ~250 texts, frequent messaging via gTalk and Facebook Messenger, SNESoid gaming, a Billiards game I like to play, 25 minutes in phone calls, over 2 hours in screen on time with about 60% of my day spent on WiFi and 40% on 3G. Includes some random web browsing (I recovered my Xbox Live password with my phone browser and checked my bank account a couple of times), app updates, and general phone stuff. Screen shots below:

What truly impressed me, though, is the temperature. I'd expect something so thin to vent heat well, but I also expected to get warm. It simply didn't happen. Once I put my CPU clock back to regular 1.5, my phone was an ice cube all day long, dropping down to as low as 20C, or 68F. My computer doesn't get that cool when it's turned off and tossed in the now in the snow. Admittedly, I wouldn't know, since I've never done something so stupid as to toss my computer in the snow. Screen shot below:
TL;DR (performance): I got a 6400 on Quadrant running MeanROM overclocked at 1.7GHz. My emulators run at 60fps and they stay there. My phone hasn't risen above 30C since I first turned it on (minus 5 minutes when I was restoring apps via titanium backup and when I flashed the custom ROM).
Call Quality:
I got 3 phone calls. They were all loud, clear, and wonderful. Didn't have to max out my speaker volume like with prior devices.
WiFi/3G/4G:
WiFi connects quickly and I don't lose signal ever. 3G is almost 2 times faster than it was on the Epic 4G Touch (in speedtest.net tests I neglected to screen shot. I got 300kbps down on Epic Touch, 550kbps down on EVO LTE...not great numbers but still better is better. Obviously YMMV). I have no 4G LTE where I live (damn you Sprint).
*Added*
Music Quality:
This is my first phone with Beats enabled. I freaking love it. I mostly use my phone to listen to music while in the car. Beats itself is a tad bassy, but I used my car's equalizer (primitive as it may be) to dial down the bass a bit and I got one of the fullest, best music experiences I've ever had with an Android phone. I blame it all on Beats, but hey this phone has it lol.
Root Stuff:
Creating a backup in TWRP 2.3.1 took 133 seconds (about twice as fast as it does on the Galaxy Nexus as of TWRP 2.2, I never tested on TWRP so it could be faster now for the Nexus). Restoring 45 user apps in titanium backup was faster than I've ever seen it go. I haven't had to restore a backup yet, but I imagine it's much quicker than I'm accustomed to. The S-Off process looks like it's going to be a lot of fun (currently just HTCdev unlocked) and I can't wait to try that out. I might make a video or something, who knows.
My pros:
1. Quick as hell.
2. Cool as hell (in both looks and actual, literal temperature)
3. Handles all games, all tasks, and all nonsense well.
4. My goodness I missed having a kickstand.
5. No connectivity problems (signal, data, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc)
6. Battery lasts for a really long time considering I used it more today than I ever will in a single day until I move again.
7. Great HTC build quality.
8. Sense 4.1 = best HTC Sense ever (it's still bloated, but not nearly as bad as older Sense)
My Cons:
1. Non removable battery isn't that bad, but I'd still like to battery pull when I need to.
2. Charging to 90% takes like 30 minutes. Charging from 90% to 100% takes twice that long for some reason.
3. Facebook as a system app? Oh hells nah!
4. That plastic back plate is ugly. And a finger print magnet. And it called my mom fat.
5. It doesn't pay my taxes for me.
Summary:
This is definitely among the top 3 best phones I've ever owned right up there with the OG EVO and the Galaxy Nexus. I include the OG EVO because it has one of the greatest dev communities ever. this phone doesn't have that huge dev community, but the devs we do have are talented and awesome (I know, I write about them quite frequently). Can't wait to start flashing random things and see what I can make this phone do.
Thanks for reading, don't forget to tell me how stupid it was and rate the thread a 1 star lol.
TL;DR
Please keep your crappy opinions to yourself.
(just kidding)
Thanks for the post and for reminding me why I love my EVO so much! If you like MeanROM, you should really give ViperROM a try, it runs like the road runner and has glorious customizations.
And, if you're not a huge fan of the Sense camera and wouldn't mind using an AOSP camera, definitely try the Paranoid Android ROM. You'll be surprised how versatile our EVO can be combining our awesome screen with the ability to customize how apps are displayed (each individual app can be run with a different DPI and in a separate workspace like tablet mode or regular phone mode)

I plan on trying all the ROMs eventually. I needed something trustworthy and stable because I moved the day after I got this so I didn't have time to really troubleshoot potential issues with the more experimental stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it

Nice to read this. I'm due for an upgrade in about two weeks and I've been debating between the EVO LTE and SGS III. I'm leaning towards the EVO as it stands right now. I've had a chance to play with both and I've also read some online comparisons. Both seem to be great phones.

Get the S3, EVO radios have too many issues especially with LTE. If you have no plans to use it for LTE in 2 years, and live in a very saturated signal area it is a great phone.

I've been reading about those issues. I've also been looking to see when LTE is coming to my area (Birmingham, AL) and it's not on the list of upcoming cities to even get it. Of course, we never officially got Wimax, but parts of the city have it.

They are both fantastic phones and it's going to be really tough getting an objective opinion on either of them (fanbois will be fanbois). For my purposes, I live in a saturated 3G area with no immediately 4G plans coming (although I do get WiMAX). I've experienced exactly 0 radio problems ever but I've also only had it for like a week. I got this phone because:
1. People on eBay, XDA Marketplace, Craigslist, etc seem to think that the Galaxy S III is worth $100 more than the EVO LTE when it's almost identical hardware (1GB of extra RAM and .05 inches of extra screen space is not a justifiable reason to charge an extra $100, even Motorola knows that).
2. I've missed having good build quality along with good specs. My last 3 devices were Samsung phones and while the phones are nice and sleek and gorgeous, it just irritated me that my phone was made entirely out of the same material as most children's toys. It's strictly a personal preference and I advise not making a decision based on it...but yknow. Other than build quality, OEM skin (TW vs Sense), that extra 1GB of RAM and that .05 inches of extra screen, there is literally no difference between these phones. Both have excellent 8MP shooters, both have the S4 dual core processor clocked to 1.5GHz, both have HD screens, both have front facing cameras, neither use on-screen buttons, and they both have those "little features" like NFC. So when it came down to it, I decided I'd rather have build quality over an extra gig of RAM (that I'll probably never use since I"m a kill app-aholic) and an extra .05 inches of screen (because, yknow, you can tell the difference). For others, they may want the extra gig of RAM...depends on what they want.
You can't go wrong either way, especially since you have an upgrade due and you'll get charged (closer to) fair prices for these phones instead of the ridiculous prices owners online are asking for. Best of luck and I hope you make the best decision for what you need and want. Don't let fanboyism get in the way!

Thank you sir! I'd love to see some Warm goodness and some warmblood goodness as well One of the best themes from the EVO 4G. There's a few devs who's names I recognize and I'm glad to see you hanging out in these forums! I need to go hunting to see if you've released anything
