Nice idea, hopefully it will help those of us used to Android devices. However, the amount of "how-tos" for this device is rather limited, and there is sufficient difference between this "Gen2" phone and the "Gen1" HTC phones like Mozart and HD7 for existing guides not to apply. With that in mind, and given that you have kindly listed stock ROMs, could I suggest that a guide on what can and can't be done be provided? I am thinking along the lines of how the stock ROMs can be flashed to these phones, given locked bootloaders and the inability to root etc. As an instance, I am interested in flashing a stock generic ROM to my current operator locked one, but have no current knowledge to do so. If indeed it is possible, which I gather from the Titan forum is not. Give me any SE, ZTE, Moto phone and I'm away... this is new but nonetheless intriguing. Cheers!

Im seeing allot of ROMs in the ftp but Im not really to sure of which one to choose.
what is your favorite ROM?
cheers
no one?
Does this mean everyone is changing their Rom's without knowing the direct advantages? that seems rather risky
See wiki page Upgrading for beginners:
Please do NOT ask which is the best ROM for you, the Hermes upgrading forum is flooded with this question and we can't really give you an answer: a ROM upgrade is only as good as the comments it has received from the users on the forums, see the top right column of the Shipped Complete Updates table for each ROM's forum link.

I had a quick look at that list and I noticed that there isn't a ROM for T-Mobile. So what ROM do I have installed on my MDA Vario II?
Also, on my old Wizard I had the Molski ROM installed which seemed to work quite nicely. Are there similar custom ROMs out there. Or are these less common due to the better spec of the Hermes not requiring such customisations?
cooked roms on the hermes still not exists, the bootloader checks signature of the rom updates and it must be signed with proper HTC key... not possible to flash a cooked rom until we can circumvent this.
My 2 pence... use the latest ROM from your carrier if possible. It will generally have better radio/data performance on their network. Also, you'll get the roaming/not-roaming intelligence. This, for example, allows you to set up different sync schedules in certain software based upon roaming which is important in my travels. I don't want push email chewing up data when I'm off network.
Thanks for the info. I thought there would be a good reason!
I just received my 8525 from ATT and its running the orginal software. I went to the HTC web site to down load the new version but the down load doesn't work or its to slow. Does anyone has this upgraded.
Thanks
anyone want to flame....he turned on the gas.

What I wanna know is why someone even WANTS the HTC upgrade.. lol.. why not go WM6.
As mentioned above, U'll be much better off with one of our great chef's cooked ROM's!
I agree with the others....you can learn alot by reading, not posting. Read through some of the threads regarding the OS's, including the HTC official release, and perhaps go to the WIKI here and read some more about all the different options available to 8525 users regarding OS's.
You can also use the links under my sig for more resources.
Enjoy!
@wynngo, forget about the HTC WM5 upgrades.. just go straight to WM6. Since your on AT&T, I suggest vp3g's cooked ROM. It's one of the best AT&T bred roms available.

I agree with Cirial; I've played with many of the new WM6 ROMs and have found VP3G's to be very stable, fast and so far the best of the lot on my Cing 8525 w/AT&T. I like it so much I put it on BOTH of the 8525's!!
i've just bought an HTC HD2....and i'm coming to htc from iphone.
i'm wanting to use a different rom on my phone. all the froyo roms have been letting me down. loss of signal, no wifi the usual. but ive been running them off my sd card...clrcad---haret.
i'm wanting actually flash the phone as i'm finding htc winmo a bit of a let down. i know it wasnt critically acclaimed but i didnt think it'd be as clunky as it is.
i have read all about hspl/sspl but i cant seem to find any tutorial on flashing the phone for noobs. like i said i am new to this and i appreciate the fact that the turorials are out there but i'm coming to a bit of a stumbling block.
when trying to find info on installing a modded/hacked spl...i cant seem to find any which relates to spl-3.03.0000 XE. I just dont want to brick my phone and want as much info as possible befre i attempt it. Any help would be greatly appreciated
htc hd2 (leo), network unlock (factory),o2UK contract sim, spl-3.03.000 xe, rom version 3.14.405.2 (04666) wwe, radio version 2.15.50.14.
Hey, first of all welcome to the world of proper phones
Sorry, couldn't resist.....
At the moment its not possible to flash android to the device memory, its not that far away though....
Finding a good reliable build is a lot of trial and error I'm afraid...
I've currently settled on the nexus one build, its running much better than any of the builds with HTC sense.
As for winmo, I'd reccomend flashing a custom rom, dutty's, artemis and energy roms seem to be the most popular, and installing Cht 2.0 if you haven't already.
Check the stickys in the rom development section for guides on flashing and such... if its a tmo us then check the tmo us section to make sure your on the right track.

Hi.
This is my first post on xda, and I am hoping to learn a lot whilst I am here.
I am not expecting any help here, but there has been small hype about getting android onto this phone. And I understand that you may be critical about noobs like me expecting an easy fix from you.
I appreciate that the idea makes no sense from many perspectives, this is mine.
I purchased the windows 7 phone 3 months ago, I was a complete idiot and fell for the sales pitch, the salesman promised me the earth, he said I would be able to WiFi Tether on the next update, he told me it would be better then the android evo 4 that I wanted.
As you are probably aware, I am a complete fool. I have however spent many hours on the phone with a certain mobile phone outlett, and my provider, neither will help. And I am stuck with the phone till 2013.
The phone's buyback price has gone down to 1/3rd what it was on the day I bought the phone.
I have now made it my mission to get this phone to run android. I feel so strongly I may even remove the windows logo from the bottom of my touch-screen.
I have already researched some, and expect days more research before I'll be able to do, whatever it is I need to do.
I am and will be keeping a log, of all my research, and hopefully can use what I learn to help people out later on.
So....
Any comments, or questions or support?
CleverNoob
I have picked up a few things. And therefore want to clarify,
I don't want to dual boot the 2 OS's, I want to REMOVE windows 7 and replace it with Android.
From what I gather this means I need to develop an android ROM to work with the mozart, and then Flash it to the phone...?
So my logical mind tells me to look for the android ROM that works on the most similar spec phone.
I am however aware that the firmware or something is different in the mozart, from the HD7 and does not allow for certain android commands to work, therefore the ROM (gingerbread?) used on the HD7 will not be remotely compatible with the HD7?
It seems that there may be a few options for the actual flashing of the ROM already available... So I am going to concentrate on learning more about ROM development now.
If anyone wants to correct me, point me in the right direction, or hurl abuse at me... feel free to do so
I do not know all that much about ROM development.
What about drivers though? Sure it is fine for the chipset as there are Android devices with the same chipset (CPU and GPU)... Although the WiFi, bluetooth, radio etc. I guess it's built into the SoC?
Drivers for the screen, capacitive buttons, camera etc?
I think if you look around, you should be able to find a phone similar to htc mozart and the name which comes to my mind is Nexus one and htc desire...
Although it depends on you that you extract drivers from the OS of both of those android based phones then extract drivers from your mozart and compare if they have same chipset....
I really wonder if it's possible to do all this virtually instead of physically installing OSes on phones for development purposes.
You didnt give up did ya mate!
All of the Australia Telstra Community who got Conned into buying the Mozart over an iPhone due to This Service Provider not having a Contract with Apple are 'root'ing for your Success
just checking if i got it right...
you want android in the mozart just to enable wifi tethering.
well, FYI, its been done and done bro, just unlock your device and install any of the excellent custom ROMs here. my notebook is tethered to my mozart right now.
but if you want to further explore the capabilities of the hardware, no worries- many good samaritans are already doing that. explore the development forums here and thy shall learn!
take care!
Tethering is working now, even with Telstra and no unlocking (7720).
This is my first post too! I was about to post something like yours. I have an HTC Mozart too and I want to install an Android ROM on it though my reasons are different.
As a software developer I have no experience about ROM development but I'm very interested.
So what did you do until now? Any success?
I am buying a used AT&T HTC One with 1.26.502.12 version on it. I am not new to rooting (have a Nexus 4 and S4 I-337 rooted), but my questions are specific to HTC One since it is the first HTC device I will be owning.
1) I keep seeing the term S-Off... can someone please explain me what it means? Is it same as boot-loader unlocking?
2) I have seen some threads suggesting that the newer updates to HTC One are difficult to root.. Is there something I can do to block these updates when I get the device, so I can quickly root/recovery it? (For Galaxy S4 I-337, I used this method to block the newer updates - is there something similar for HTC One?)
3) I am looking for a good ROM that is closer to the International HTC One experience, minus a lot of HTC bloatware. I am considering Scott's CleanROM.. what other ROM's fall in the "like stock HTC" category? I don't mean to compare ROMs - I am just looking to figure out which is best for me.
Thanks!
