I've seen this asked in another thread, but nobody answered. Don't know if it's because nobody knows or if the other user had mods that nobody wanted to address.
Anyway, I've noticed that some program notification icons are not showing up in the webtop-panel. Specifically right now I don't see Llama or Juice Defender. There seems to be blank spots where the icons should be. There are 4 other notifications there currently as expected, and when calendar events and emails trigger their notifications are also there.
I even think that Llama used to be there until some recent updates, but I'm not 100% certain on that.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen that, and if anyone knows if there is something app designers might need to do that webtop relies on to get those icons (not webtop specific since app designers shouldn't need to know about webtop). I don't want to bug app designers about it since they probably don't know anything about android-webtop interactions.

Does anyone know how I can disable threaded SMS? I absolutely hate "conversation" view, and just want the classic chronological list of all messages.
I tried Handcent, but I don't see an option to do it there, either.
Can anyone help?
I would suggest returning your phone and buying a flip gophone.
But seriously, I heard SMS Composer is a non-threaded SMS app.
Edit: I checked, yes it is.
I thought I remembered reading some unpleasant things about that app - I don't remember if it had to do with stability, lack of functionality, or something shady - but it caused me to write that off.
I'll be honest, I'm rather shocked that there isn't more support for this. I've certainly seen enough other people asking for the same thing.
On older Windows Mobile phones, you could change a registry setting to disable threaded SMS and revert to classic mode.
Is there something similar that can be done with Android? Or does an app need to specifically be coded for this?
GO SMS Pro
settings, Appearance, conversation customization, conversation style, list style
make sure when you launch GO SMS Pro you are running full mode (dont worry, it will ask you)
The app has to be coded for it. And SMS Composer has a good rating on App Brain. I don't see anything shady about it, really, and it worked while I tested it for a few minutes. I will admit I didn't get too into it though.
Edit: Seems there is another app called SMS Tray that does it, but I don't believe it is free and the Lite edition is a timed trial.
I don't mind paying, if it's worth it. Thanks for the reference, I'll have a look.
So I've been receiving these strange notifications periodically that are "recommending" bizarre applications. The notification looks like a star, and when pressed sends me to an application in the market. I've been on android for quite a while and I have never had this happen before, so I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems. Or maybe this is some "feature" that I'm not aware of.
I was reading in the Vibrant forums about something that seemed similar, and in that case it was caused by a separate application. I wanted to throw it out to the t-bolt community and see if anyone has experienced this and/or knows what would cause it.
Also, if this is something that has been previously discussed, I give you permission to flame me. My several google searches didn't bring anything up. Thanks in advance.
As a side note, I am knowingly marking this thread as a question while knowing that there are no question marks in the actual post. I think the question is inferred (this could possibly spur some philosophical debates).
It sounds like one of your installed apps is using AirPush to put ads on your notification bar. I'd check the apps you installed or updated recently to see if any of them are known to do this. I believe there are also some apps that can detect which installed programs are using AirPush as well, but I haven't tried any of them personally. If you search for AirPush, you'll see more info about it, as well as learn that it is basically universally reviled by users.
This is definitely AirPush. It sends ads straight to your notifications so as the person above me said, you should check out your recently installed/updated apps to see if any have this enabled. It's a pain in the ass to have that little icon up there all the time.
OP, don't be so quick to be flamed
I don't know where it is or how to get it (I assume the air push website) but apparently you can get a tool, so to speak, from air push that will opt you out of the ads and stop them from pushing notifications to your phone. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful as to where to acquire this, but what I read said that it's provided by air push themselves.

AirPush opt out
Thanks for the quick replies. I found out that there's an app in the Android Market made by AirPush, Inc. themselves that allows you to opt out. I installed it, and I'll see if it solves the problem.
As far as the flaming goes, I figure some people just need to get it out of their system, so I was giving those people an excuse.
Thanks again for the replies.
Hello,
I'm looking for an app to use as an "elderly fall alert". The scenario looks quite common, so I guess I just didn't make a good search.
I'd install it on an old phone, leave it permanently plugged to the charger and place it somewhere that should be frequently visited by an elder living alone, like the kitchen or the bathroom. If the camera detects no motion in the room for a few hours (considering nighttime & etc), it sends some kind of alert to someone... an SMS, email via 2G/3G maybe with a photo of the "current situation". Periodic reports would be good, so would be power out alerts (might cause a fall or phone might run out of battery after a while).
I found applications tied to special camera hardware and a lot of burglary alert apps, but what I want is a reverse function of that.
Does anybody know of an application like this?
Thanks!
bump
Please, nobody knows of such app?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here it goes. I just went to get fast food. While I was in the drive-thru, Google felt it important to give me a notification saying "Here's reviews about this place". There will never, ever, be a point in time I'll want this from Google. Ever. However, I can't seem to disable it without throwing out my local weather and traffic info. I'd appreciate if anyone could help me figure out how to tell Google to stop it.
These settings seem draconian. I had to *enable* web history, for them to realize I don't want them to show me any news articles at all either.
Or, is there an open-source alternative to GNow that'll replicate just those two features?
I'm seeing this on a stock Nexus 5X as well as a CM13 LGG3 on Sprint, so I know it's account related.
Hi everyone.
I posted this originally in the NOOK forum, and got some great help there, but was directed here to ask a more general question.
Ii'm going to ask people to cast their minds wayyyyyy back to Eclair.
This is opy/paste from the NOOK forum.
"Does anyone know of any Android 2.1 apps that will allow me to display messages on the NOOK, sent from my PC over WIFI?
I'm wanting to make a "magic book" that allows me to send clues to customers in an escape room, so I'll need to be able to disable any inputs on the NOOK end, and just have it as a text display that I can change remotely. Anyone have any ideas for apps to do those things?"
Somebody pointed me to an app that disables the IR sensors, effectively disabling the touch screen, so that bit is covered. I can design a cover too prevent access to the hardware buttons, so it's just an app that will allow me to send text to the blank screen via WiFi.
Obviously I'm a total noob, and have no idea where to begin looking. Can anyone help?
