[ROOT] Root ICS beta - Motorola Droid RAZR

If you, like me, forgot to use RootKeeper before you upgraded to ICS you probably started to miss root soon after upgrade.
Luckily an exploit for Linux kernels version 2.6.39 - 3.2 have been released.
So I just packaged it with some nice scripts to install su.
Instructions:
(Windows Only)
Install USB drivers http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=0351f6a559431210VgnVCM1000008406b00aRCRD
(All)
1. Extract the zipfile
2. Enable USB debugging
3. Run the appropriate script file
4. Install superuser from market.
Credits to Saurik who ported the exploit to Android and also for finding the correct hex values for this ROM.
Credits to Max Lee and DooMLoRD from witch I took their previous root packages and modified it.
Windows and Mac scripts are untested so please report their workingness

Very nice! Been waiting for exactly this. Thanks!

many thanks !!! I installed ICS and rolled back to 2.3.6 beacause can't root and have many soft with root
I will re upgrade to the ISC one again and test your package

Not really sure if I do this correctly.
First I unzip the files; then debug on; connect phone to the pc; and finally run the "run-windows" file? Well it doesn't work...

This for Verizon? Cdma?

If you are on Windows you will have to install USB drivers but for us who are not
it's simply to enable USB debugging and run the appropriate script.
After that you probably want to install superuser from market.

There is no ICS for CDMA version atm... So obviously... You cannot root something that does not exist..

I missed two DLL files for windows, but have now uploaded a fixed version.
Also make sure that you have the USB drivers installed and that you manually install superuser from market (this is so you can get updates, if I included the apk in the packages it would stick to that version)
I wrote some better instructions to hopefully easier it a bit.
EDIT:
For CDMA, it would work if you guys would get the rom to. Well theoretically Motorola could patch the exploit before releasing a CDMA version but I find that unlikely.

I'm surprised by the quick finish
but now my phone are Rooted
THANKS !

Have you made sure you have USB drivers installed and that USB debbuging is enabled?

2.1 Root Method

ROOT achieved for 2.1 FW.
Sometimes the first method isn't always the best:
*edit*
A new app has appeared on the market called "z4root". This seems to root in one click.
Details are here.
Install this from the Market, press Root and you're away.
Old Methodm should it still be required:
This requires you to have 2.1 already (either Nordic, or other generic, or using Bin4ry's flashtool version here.
instructions and files as below.

Download the SuperOneClick (files attached) or original post here

Updated Superoneclick version 1.5.4
v1.5.4
Fixed superuser install issue
Added a prompt to tell you to allow superuser on your phone, for the test.
Fixed unroot.
It can take a while to ROOT - looks as though it is stuck in a loop. I thought it wasnt working but waited about 10mins and it worked.
If you wait longer and it still doesn't work, try untick/retick USB debug while it's running
Hey Presto - ROOT !
Thanks CVCHETAN for adding the attachments & tidying it up.. it was late
Remember you will probably want Busybox too - click Problems from within Titanium to download.
NOTE: If you're having no luck with this, it seems the PDANet client might install different drivers which help the process. If you're struggling this might be worth a try. Also ticking Unknown Applications allows it to send the SuperUser.apk has reported to help some users.
PdaNet Client is here.
Pre-requisites not mentioned in this post:
Working 2.1 X10
Drivers must be installed for X10 Debug mode - try adb manually to check
Some virus checkers might flag these files - this is because an exploit can be a security risk, but 100% virus free
You run this all on your PC - it connects to your phone and roots it from there.
Doesnt work for me, get failed! No ~~FU GOO~~ or something
Tried different versions of the app
Hmmm Barnacle isn't working quite as expected (even after setting athwlan0), but Titanium is definitely giving root...
will post a pic in a bit, have another x10 to update / root first
None of them work for me.

[Tool 7/27] Perm-Temp Root w/ R/W, Overclock 1.8GHz and HULU FIX [CONFIRMED WORKING]

First of all I am taking no credit for any of this. All I did was combine other people's work and edit scripts to make this tool that I believe works best on my phone. Plus HULU WORKS!!!
Dev's who's material was used:
panamaniac - Perma-Temp Root + HULU FIX
eugene373 - (TOOL) Perma-Temp Root with *R/W* & Stable!
Almighty1 - [Fix] Hulu working + Flash.apk April 22
coolbho3000 - [MOD] EVO 3D Overclocked to 1.8GHz!
agrabren - [GUIDE] Fre3vo / Fre3dom Official Thread
What I Did: I just combined (TOOL) Perma-Temp Root with *R/W* & Stable! with Perma-Temp Root + HULU FIX and [MOD] EVO 3D Overclocked to 1.8GHz!.
What it does: Basically what the title says. It will temporarily root you device, overclock it to 1.8Ghz and swap out the current flash player for one that will allow you to use Hulu on your device.
AFTER DOWNLOADING, FOLLOW THE BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
1. Plug your phone into your PC and select Charge only
2. Make sure HTC Sync is not running
3. Enable USB debugging by going to Menu>Settings>Applications>Development and checking USB Debugging
4. Unzip the folder titled "Unzip This.zip"
5. Open the file titled "Perm-Temp Root with RW + Overclock + Hulu Fix"
6. Run (Double click) the .bat file of your choice.
NOTE: YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE ROOT FIRST BEFORE YOU RUN HULU FIX OR OVERCLOCK
I am not personally responsible for any damage that may occur to you or your phone. Hopefully you are responsible enough to try and not break things and if you do not to cry all about it. That would be great. Thank you. When you unzip the folder it should look like the file that I've attached here.
I might be a noob, but I don't understand how anyone is able to change setcpu when it tries to OC the phone before SU permissions. Unless the winrar I have is corrupt and it's skipping it,
havent tried it yet (charging phone) plus im currently reformatting my 4G with MikG for the wifey and redoing my 3D after i get it charged up.
however.
i noticed you have only one overclock (do you need befor and after OTA?)
and only one script to root (no root and reroot. which doesnt really matter because if the file is already there it will skip it in theory)

personally what i do (maybe overkill) is keep the .apk for setcpu on sd card and when i know i am going to do a full reboot (not fast reboot) i uninstall setcpu, reboot, reroot, then install setcpu and do my profiles.
again this may be overkill but..... it works for me EVERY TIME ! (and i was using panam script till now)

First of all thank you for testing this out. I discovered why it wasn't working and have updated the Original Post accordingly. You were correct regarding the .dll files being in the wrong place but just moved the other files to the wrong location. Why it wasn't working on yours or others Windows machines had to do with the environmental variables. On my PC I have adb configured in my PATH. This was allowing adb to run with the .dll files in my android-sdk-windows folder. If you don't have adb in your PATH than it never would have worked the way that it was set up. I believe I have corrected this and it should be working 100%. Please give it another try and let me know if there's any problems.
Great thank you! This should work for everybody now. I've updated the OP.
Can someone please confirm as working?

For those of you who used the mac version of the root script from DroidRazrRoot.com, the script on this thread works to unroot as well. They are both based on DooMLoRD's method. I tried it, and it worked perfectly. Obviously you need Windows to run it, but for some it's a lot simpler than using terminal commands. I just borrowed my friend's Windows laptop, installed the drivers, ran the unroot tool, restored my phone to factory settings, and it worked like a charm. Just be sure to uninstall clockwork recovery BEFORE you unroot if you installed it through safestrap or any other method. While I didn't try uninstalling it after I unrooted, I'm not entirely sure if you can once you unroot. Now it's ready to go back to Verizon for data connectivity issues :-/

{TOOL}Auto_Flasher_V4.5---3/4/12 (Beta) Update 1.5Hboot support

Hey Kids, I figured it was getting kind of boring around here so I'm releasing a little tool I've been using for a while now. It's just what it says, an "Auto Flasher". It will flash any rom, any kernel, backup data, restore data, fix permissions, etc. With full wipe function or just a cache and delvik wipe. All from the comforts of your pc. Just plug in your evo3d with usb debugging enabled and some room on your sdcard and off you go. Oh, almost forgot. This will also Odex all your system apk's if you like. It's on the menu. Even if you have some odexed, it will skip over those.
Things to do first:
1. Run the AF4.5setup.exe. Choose a location (I like the desktop) to run it from. It will create a folder called Auto Flasher V4.5.
1.a Run the 2.08setup.exe and the 2.17setup.exe *(these are just RUU 2.08 and RUU 2.17. Download them even if you already have them. The exe will install them to the proper folder.)
2. Open the Auto Flasher V4.5\Place-Files-Here\ROM folder and copy paste your rom of choice.
3. Open the Auto Flasher V4.5\Place-Files-Here\Kernel folder and copy paste your kernel of choice (if your flashing a kernel).
4. Make sure USB debugging is on and you have about 500 mb on your sdcard.
5. If you need HTC drivers, look in the \Drivers folder. (Install them first).
6. Run the Auto_Flasher_V4.5.bat.
7. Sit back with a brew and watch the show. (It will prompt you a couple of times for some yes and no questions).
NOTES:
I had to separate the .exe's because of file size limitations on DevHost. If your not doing a firmware change then you don't need them. But I recommend you download them.
When restoring data, run your rom first for a couple of minutes. I found everything takes nicer.
When running "11. Fastboot Radio/Wimax Flasher" Please make sure you don"t interrupt this. You won't like the results. If something goes wrong, you will have to flash your radio manually because you'll be in a nasty bootloop.
This is a beta release. Many improvements on the way.
Disclaimer:
If you say I bricked your phone. I will laugh. Nothing this does can't be undone with a nand restore. So for the love of god, DO A NAND BACKUP FIRST!!!

Edit: For those who have downloaded V4 before 2/27/12, don't use the Auto_Flasher_V4.exe. There's some thing wrong with it. Instead, I've attached Auto_Flasher_V4.bat (unzip it of course). Place that in the \Auto Flasher V4\Auto Flasher V4 directory were adb.exe and all the other files are. Run that instead. Other wise redownload the whole thing again. New link is up.

I have downloaded this on 2 different PCs with both IE and Firefox and am unable to run the Auto_Flasher_V3.exe.
I receive the good ol' "Auto_Flasher_V3.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error.
Thoughts? I find it hard to believe that I have downloaded multiple bad copies.

That's odd. I'm not sure. What OS are you running?

Sorry about that. I figured it out and have made changes in V4.
Update V4
Just put up V4. Many improvements. Give it a try.
the link in the first page says THERE IS NO FILE.
please be kind to upload your latest version.
thanks very much.
New Link
For those who have downloaded V4 before 2/27/12, don't use the Auto_Flasher_V4.exe.

Link is up. Had to take it down. Sorry
Hey guys, I need someone with Hboot 1.50 to test this. I'm on 1.40. I believe you need to use the HTC Unlock Hboot 1.50 method first found here http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader . Then just use the tool. Thanks.
Will HBOOT 1.5 users be able to flash new radios/wimax with this without having to run the latest ruu? Thanks

{Script} Moto Milestone X2 2.3.6 Root

I have noticed that many people have had issues rooting their phone, especially recently. And i have also gotten tired of typing or copying the root method over and over after flashng in RSD and loosing root.
In response to that i have taken it upon myself to write a script for automating a majority of the process for all of us, making the process swifter than before. However this is not a one click root there are many steps nessecary to root our device. All i have done is wiritten a script to automate a majority of the process.
I will only test one version of the script, the ubuntu 12.10 version, because thats the only operating system i run and its easiest to test this one. i will leave the other versions to other people and to post issues with them as they arise so i may fix them
there are several versions of the script
*Ubuntu - 12.10 and up
*Ubuntu generic - 10.04-12.04
*Linux generic - any version of linux
*Windows bat file - Must download Motorola drivers
*Android - NEW ALPHA!! can actually be run from another rooted phone or tablet!! Scripts for general use coming soon! Testers are welcome! Check out the second post for details.
each version has the nessecary files to root your phone and including the script
These are not flash able scripts these must be uncompressed and run on a computer
Oh and feed back is more than welcome im not an expert at writing scripts or any sort of write up but i will do my best to fix any flaws or add suggestions.

Ah, wow. Thank you so much for this. I didn't root my Milestone X2 2.3.6 on ACS Wireless for 6 months because I was afraid of breaking it (again.) I wish this was around a few months ago
Hopefully this helps everyone root their phone in a much easier and safer way.
By the way.. Does anyone have any suggestions on a working MX2 2.3.6 ROM? I'm still using stock, and I hate it.
there aren't any roms based on 2.3.6, doubt we will see any soon

Try eclipse its not 2.3.6 based but it runs wonderfully on the mx2. As for the script its mostly an untested product. I've runt the Ubuntu 12.10 one once with little issue but the rest I haven't tried. Just remember its a two part script that requires the running of both pieces to work.
As to having a rom 2.3.6 based there really is no point we have fully functional roms that run beautiful with what we have not to mention that there's no real point in going back if we get a kexec or second boot working as further versions are going to be based off of a newer kernel and version of android.

I'm now rooted thanks to this script by Lrs121! I strongly recommend those new to the process of root to use this script because it works!

Got my phone rooted after a couple hiccups due to not reading carefully. A great tutorial; just make sure you follow the steps to the letter.

I'm glad it was able to help. I tried to make certain things more autonomous but unfortunately it does have to be specific, and handled as such. So there's not a lot of flexability in how the process is done by the user and by the script itself.

I've tested some superuser managing apps and so far the only one that works for our device is chainsdd's app. Clockworkmod's and chainfires supersu do not work well or at all. Please use the chainsdds app from the market or keep the one that the script installs as they work best.

A new script is coming soon. It will be an android to android script where you can root your phone using another phone or an android tablet. Thanks will go to the guys who have developed the p2p-abd tools. If the fast boot binarys are included

Alpha for the arm aka android script is up. Testers are welcome to play with it. This is a very very basic build. Nothing is automatic, will be worked on as I go. The download, requirements and minor change log of what's included can be found on the second post. that post is now change log and unstable versions. Read what's included on the the log before trying. If you want to try but don't have and otg cable flash the preinstall img using a computer and play around with the arm adb binaries. Credit for the arm versions of the adb and fastboot binaries go to the original developers, they will be listed as I find the correct threads and sites I pulled them from are found.

Sorry. I meant to get back to you earlier, I've been busy. No. I'm running Windows 7. Used the Windows Pack and ran through the instructions/README and got hung on that last step when the script wouldn't run.
I have a bootable CD of a few Linux OS's should I try one of those instead of through Windows? Is there a specific OS that the Linux script doesn't work on. I am a fan of LinuxMint and CentOS but I also have an Ubuntu CD as well.

Hum I wonder what broke the windows script. Um really its up to you I can try to tear it apart and see if what's wrong but I'd need specific information from you in what's happening. But I'm a better Linux script writer so the Linux scripts are a bit more stable. Ubuntu 12.04 and up is best because the repositories have adb and fastboot included and can be installed. Both of which the script requires to run but any of the linux ones should work.

On a side note I think I I figured out what's wrong. If I'm right correct me if I'm wrong, you tried to run the android-script.sh script from windows. If I'm wrong then I think the issue may be due to permissions

Please help.
I recently received my Motorola Milestone X2 running 2.3.6. I have followed your method to a T. After the adb shell cmd, I receive no Superuser prompt. Then, after typing in the /preinstall/su cmd, it says: file not found, or file does not exist. I cannot remember. Can you help?
Thanks,
Jeremy
