Looking for nuance voice commands to use on dx2 on cm7. My understanding is its not blur but does need to be modified to work. I do have a backup from eclipse with nandroid or titanium. Wish i had the know how but unfortunately i don't.

Forgive me, I know this has been discussed by search turned up a lot of fruitless stuff to wade through.
Real simple: Is there a way to backup my phone 100% before trying a new ROM?
I'm not so much worried about contacts, etc... as I sync with Exchange at work. More about saving all customizations, apps, etc.... when I want to try a new ROM release. (I know I"ll have to re-setup all that on the new release... just want to be protected if I decide to go back to the previous ROM).
Thanks!!!
That's what a nand backup does
Backup - nand
Ahhhh..... always wondered about that, but my quick google-search came up empty.
So I don't need something like the app "ROM Manager", though it sounds like it'll make life easier.

Nope NAND is all you need.
One tip thought after to do a NAND backup and after to get a file manager installed rename the the backup to something you'll recognize. The way it work though the original name is a time stamp yyyyddmm-tttt. If that makes any sense. Just remember there can't be any spaces in the new name.

I try not to keep too many nands in my sdcard because they are like 200+ mbs each.

They do take up a lot of space. I move em to my harddrive on my pc and keep the one I use most on the SD.

All I do is nand the ROMs that work well and like. For example my goto everything works rom is Evil Eris 3.0. And and of course a keep ROMs that I know work backed up just in case. Also before changing ROMs do a wipe then restore. I find that sometimes there's a few apps that get left when switching.

That's too funny lol, Eris lightning is my goto Rom I keep on the phone also good Rom huh?

I'd like to run Eris lightening but because of all the red theming i have issues. I'm working with conap to change all the pngs to offer different theming. My issue is I'm red/ green color blind. Lol

If you rename your nandroid don't put any spaces. Just numbers/letters. And don't use rom manager.
Can nand restore apps back to the sd card? I am running the kaos rom...
I kinda have the same question... is there an easy way to backup all my apps (even the droid store ones) than restore them when installing a new rom?
btw what's the best app manager? I'm using linda atm

No spaces in the name huh?? That's probably why the half dozen nandroids I made and renamed didn't work...learn something new every day.

Download Titanium from the market. It allows you to backup all of your apps, data within those apps, and system data (settings, etc.). You can run a batch to backup everything and even schedule it to do backups at certain dates and times.
When you flash the new rom, go back to the market and install Titanium again. Do a batch restore and it'll install your apps and all like you had it.
Also if you use ADW or Launcher Pro you can back up your home screens and restore them so they'll be set up just like before. Note - you'll have to manually add widgets back.

I did come across titanium backup while doing searches and it's good to have some reassurance. oh and should I do a COMPLETE batch in the settings part or mostly do the ones in green?
This queston must have been asked 1,000,000 times but there's no simple way of updating roms from v29 to v30 to ect.?
I do complete batches.

Hello all. I am running eclipse 1.1. I subscribe to Verizon visual voicemail and when I install it from the market, it prompts me to uninstall because it says there is a version already on my phone.
i have handled this before by going into the build.prop file and modifying horizontalVVM from True to False. I save and reboot. This always let me use the market version of VVM. With this new install of eclipse...this no longer works and doe not allow me to use the market VVM. Not sure how to proceed here....any ideas?
BTW: Please don't tell me not to use the paid version or something like that because there is a free version or whatnot. I know this already, I just like the VVM service that Verizon offers. Thanks
It worked fine for me... do you have a backup copy from titanium backup???

I deleted it when i found this worked hahah. Now i do have the apk and Odex from the system dump....and i know how to manually install. The problem is....since the system is deodexed...it wouldn't work would it....hmm. i am beginning to learn how to program for android but shabby right now. Can I deodex that particular apk? I do not know how to do so...but willing to learn

I will make the prop edit on the next build so that you can download it from the market. I forgot to do this from when I was changing builds.
Thanks nitro! Any idea what to do in the meantime as a workaround? Im pretty surprised the edit in the build.prop file did not fix the issue.

So. It randomly started working. I alternated true and false about 3 times with multiple reboots....it eventually started working. Go figure

I would like to use CM7 however when I try to download Hulu Plus from the market it's not available. It is available in the stock and UnNamed roms. I haven't tried any other device specific apps, I assume the same goes for them. Is there something I can change in the build.prop to get this to work? I would like to get regular updates for the apps as well. So I'm not looking to just use an apk off of the internet.

If you ha e a nandroid backup of your stock rom and IF you didn't use titanium backup to save all your apps and data THEN go back to your nandroid backup and restore to unamed rom, make sure you have backed up the hulu+ app with titanium. Then go back to your nandroid of CM7, open tibu, restore the hulu+ app. I don't use it but I saw someone else post that when they restored their app from tibu it worked fine. Once it is installed you SHOULD still get/have available any updates as normal.
Disregard this IF you already backed it up with tibu and just restore it.
On another note yes you can change your build prop so you can get unseen apps. I am not sure what changes you would need to make though. I used to do that on CM7 with my captivate when Netflix wouldn't show up with CM7. But that was corrected a long time ago.

I have used my backed up Hulu plus app on CM7. Just want to know if I would definitely get updates as long as its attached to the market. Can anyone confirm this?

Don't think you will get updates sideloading like that.
Did you try using airplane mode trick? Wipe cache, enable airplane, enable wifi check. Don't know if that will help or not but its worth a shot

I am pretty sure it will work for you. Like I said I was using the hacked Netflix app well before it was available on our captivates a d when it got updates I was able to see it and download it. Then it wouldn't work saying it wasn't supported in my device. Then I would change my build prop again and it worked fine. I have also had apps that I have sideloaded from xda and once they were available on the market or bad updates I would get the updates and use the apps with no issues. I would bet you will be fine once you have it working.

"Your voicemail inbox is full. yada yada".....my voicemails aren't downloading phone
Does anyone know how to get voicemails to download to the visual voice mail app on phone? I have cm7.2 and ran the vvm fix so I have the app but when I run it I only get a message saying it is full and I need to delete or unlock locked voice mails to make room. There is no voice mails so not sure what I need to do. I googled but I don't see anyone asking the same question. Thanks in advance.
I tried the "[email protected]" in the compose section, but I don't think that did anything either.
I had this same issue. I used titanium back up and backed up the vvm app from a blur rom. Then restored it to cm7, not using the vvm fix zip. I still get the 9016 text, but the app does work and download voicemail properly. I don't get a ton of vm so the text is isn't super annoying to me.

I think I read another post that someone said the same thing. So you had to load a blur rom, then used titatium backup to save it then load your backup back on and upload it? I was able to get the vvm app on it, but I can't seem to take it off. Do I need to uninstall it somehow? Or can I leave it on there? Can someone like yourself send me the backed up blur app and I can use titanium backup to just install, would that work?
Yeah..with a blur rom running I backed up the app. Then after fresh install of cm7 I restored the app and data. I think the data is the key part so not sure my backup would do you any good. This is the only fix I've come up with.

So is a stock type rom the only one that has it already working? It must be linked to your phone and account then is already activated so that's how it does it. There was a file I downloaded that it supposed to also activate it but it failed to install. I wonder if titanium backup can remove installed apps that I can't right now...
I'm trying to download the blur rom, but it keeps going in circle back to xda site, but never starts downloading....I want to see if I can take the app right out of the rom and just drop into my app folder and fix permissions. But maybe it needs to be activated to the account then backed up with titanium backup...
It's my guess that your last sentence is correct. I think any blur rom will do. I used Rocko's I believe.

Was it the Rocko Eternity project? Was it the unlocked Rocko3.0? I couldn't tell if that was a blur rom.
Anyone know how to get quick office back on phone for free while using cm9 ROM?

If you do a Titanium Backup before you flash CM9, you should be able to restore it.
Yep, restore it via TB. Works fine on CM9
