Went to Verizon store to buy a Razr Maxx expecting to pay full retail since I just bought the Droid Razr only two months ago. I opted to also buy the droid razr essentials tool box. So the Maxx price is 649.00 plus the tool kit 100.00 and a case for 20.00 Final Price out the door..... Get this 386.84!!!!!! Apparently If you purchase a tool kit and are the primary account holder their system gives you the phone at up grade price. (I do also qualify for a 20% discount from my work)
what should I tell them? Droid Razr essential tool box??? If this works, 390USD to buy a RAZR Maxx with no contract and with some other accessories is extremely good deal to do.
Will try my local Verizon Store tomorrow. Thanks OP!
What exactly is the Razr toolbox?

I also would like to know that.. never heard before
I have also never heard of this and was curious so I did some research. From what I can tell this is what you get.
1. HD Staion w/wall charger
2. Vehicle Dock w/3.5mm cable
3. HDMI cable - 5- long 1080p cable
4. Motorola EH15 wired stereo headset.
I am going to my local Verizon store this morning to check it out , and if I can get that deal I am going to buy a RAZR MAXX and sell my RAZR on ebay or craigslist for $250 - $350. I will let you know what happens .

Yes that is the tool box package. Sorry for being vague.
I also called a buddy of mine and had him come to the store and it worked for him also. He did pay slightly more ($410.00) because he didn't have the 20% work discount that I did through my employer.

No I did't know. The sales person says to me "I might be able to save you a lot of money." So he added the toolbox and then had a very confusing look on his face, called his manager over and he said well if that's what it comes out to....
The salesperson told me he noticed it earlier when another customer was in the store doing a price check but did't actually make the purchase.
I just bought a car dock, case and screen protector and got the upgrade price. $366 for all. This is the third phone that did this. Other was Bionic and Razr.

This makes it slightly less of a deal... Did they make you use the sim card and activate the phone before you left the store?

Just FYI it's just a regular HD Dock and not the actual HD Station which costs $99 by itself. I know this because I bought this kit shortly after buying my Razr. It also doesn't come with any power cable for the car. But, it's still a decent deal overall, especially in this situation.
The interesting thing is, I can't find the kit online if I select the MAXX when searching Accessories. If I go back and switch to the regular Razr, the kit shows up. So does the MAXX fit the same original Razr accessories??

Yes did activate but i was able to use my old sim and kept the new one so i can sell it with my razr.
Is this specific to the type of phone you currently have? I have the D3, and am finally looking intotransfering over to the dark side with the bigger screen and losing the physical keyboard. I really want the razor maxx, but paying full price is steep.
It's called the media & mobility package. I'm about to give it a shot in a few minutes and will let you know if it works.
I just got back from VZW Store got this deal 410.00 out the door.
No Luck
Tried a VZ store in Charleston, SC...No luck. They disappeared in the back for a while and came back and told me they tried and tried....but it wouldnt ring up like that. I never did get them to try ringing it up in front of me...but either way I walked out empty handed. As a launch day Razr owner, I really feel like I got screwed here and this would have eased the pain a little.
It's hit and miss depending on the store. I got mine but I had to try two different stores.

Tried to hop on this bandwagon today. It's quite hard to approach with something like this, especially since there is no documentation of it and it only shows up if you go through the ring out process.
I was told that this kind of promotion is illegal and even if it did show up at this price in the system, they would not go through with it. They feel its not right what-so-ever for anyone to get away with getting another phone for $299 with no upgrade. Like, seriously? I eventually talked someone into trying it, and they went through the process (unknowingly with a regular RAZR instead of the MAXX) and said, "See, it comes to $700 dollars, not the deal you are talking about". When the found out they didn't actually have the RAZR MAXX at hand, they went to the back, then came out and said.. "I'm sorry, we sold our last one today."
FYI, this was a corporate Verizon store the agent told me? Whatever the case it, some of these representatives need to take a chill pill.

I sincerely apologize IF this is being posted in the wrong spot. I couldn't seem to find a better spot. I'll remove if it is.
I'm relatively bummed with the Eris feeling to lack in a variety of ways. Mostly internals. I want it to be snappier. I should've realized what I was getting into when I got this phone!
Anyways I was hoping someone could point me in the direction to getting a different phone for a good price (preferably without needing to buy another 2 years for verizon now). I'd trade or something. My eris currently has a crack in the right corner that doesn't screw with the actual screen at all, you can just see a crack.
I really hope I found the right place for this.
Thanks guys
If you are looking to trade up, you could always buy a Motorola Droid that is "Certified like new" from Verizon.
What are you talking about Nanajoth? More info on that plzzz lol

Love you guys!! Haha great suggestions, I'm planning on checkin them all out today, I'll let you know if I get anywhere. Literally the only problem I have with the phone is speed. Switching apps (especially to calling app) is quite painful. The look and general functionality is fantastic.
While browsing sites for a deal on the new Droid Razr, I found, 1. verizon wireless is going to announce black friday deals on their phones tomorrow 2. for a limited time you can get double the data for the same price (2gb = 4gb still $30, etc) 3. You can combine any or all of the verizon wireless deals with a 10% off monthly discount from studentrate.com (Verizon Discount)
I'm going to be adding a line to my existing account and I wonder if most of verizon's black friday deals will be for new customers only. I was also trying to decide between the Thunderbolt or the Razr. The Razr is like brand new so I expect it would be better. Anyone have one?
Razr has been great for me. Got it the day it came out & have no problems with it at all.

RAZR is an awesome device. There's absolutely no comparison with the Thunderbolt (maybe the Rezound).
If you're getting a new line and/or contract, go Amazon. From now until Monday all of their phones are $0.01, including the RAZR. They are also doing the double-data deal on Verizon, so $30 for 4GB.

Wow, I just saw you can get the same Verizon discount I mentioned about, if you order from Amazon Wireless, which until 11/28 is selling all Verizon, Sprint and AT&T phones for $0.01 (new lines only). Score!
I was looking at the Bionic too! What made you choose Razr over Bionic?

I can't think of a single reason to purchase the Bionic over the RAZR. The RAZR is the newer of the two handsets from the same manufacturer. It's faster, thinner, lighter, has a better display, and a better camera. The only downside (for some) is the battery is non-removable. You can still hard reset, but you can't swap for another battery. If you use extended batteries, that may be an issue. If not (I never have), it's a non issue.
The real choice is the RAZR vs. the HTC Rezound. I went for the RAZR because I like Motorola's build quality and I prefer AMOLED screens. The Bionic isn't even in the running.
Is it possible to buy on-line GSM version of it in the US (New York for faster shipping)?
Looks like Amazon had too many purchases and now the deal is gone. But I found that Wirefly is giving free activation, free shipping, and a free car charger with Verizon purchases.. Wirelfy Deal

I asked a VZW rep (which really doesn't amount to much, so take this with a grain of salt), but he seemed to think that the double data promotion would be around through the holidays.
Hopefully the rep was right. It would make sense to keep the promo going for the holidays.

Depends on when you actually bought your RAZR. I bought mine the 1st week of Dec. They are allowing you to return your RAZR by Jan 14th. There is a $35 restocking fee of course.
I don't understand how people are claiming they get 12hrs or more of battery life without turning off the 4G radio. I mean, what's the point of having a 4G phone if you have to turn off the 4G radio just to get decent battery life. I had an extended battery for my DX which gave me a days use. If the RAZR had a removable battery, I would have certainly bought an extended battery.

Yeah I am sure I missed my window, which is unfortunate. I totally agree. But I go to school where 4G hasn't rolled around yet. So I am forced to stick with wifi and 3G. Which I assume is why I get about 20 hours.
You know what would be really sweet? Is if Motorola allowed you to send your RAZR to them and they switch out the smaller battery for the larger one. I would pay for that.
Date is 26th....

I haven't yet bough a RAZR. I'd like to see in my hands first, how the MAXX looks like, if I think it's back is ugly,, I'll go with the RAZR.
From all that I have seen from CES pics etc the back looks the same but is thicker. It evenly tapers from the camera area down to the bottom rather than doing a quick thin out like our RAZR's do. It isn't as thin and imagine that it would feel thicker in the hands as well. If you want the new battery you will for sure need the new back as well, probably would fit as well.
I'm sticking with my RAZR, it's supposed to be super thin, that's the point. If the battery works for you it's not worth the change IMO.
I don't mind if it's thicker, I just don't know how it looks without the camera hump. (It may looks silly) Watching the video isn't enough for me to decide.

Just a question i thought someone on here may know the answer to.
Does anyone have any information or anything that hints at the fact of the RAZR Maxx HD coming to the UK?
I already have a RAZR but ive always wanted a RAZR Maxx, and now the addition of this phone to the US market has got me very excited and hoping it will make its way to the UK, even though they seem to be changing the specs of phone over here (UK) compared to over there. (US)

I certainly hope so - the RAZR i, which is a modified RAZR M (as opposed to HD) really isn't very interesting at all. Since the RAZR HD uses the MSM8960 SoC it has more or less global support for LTE as well, so getting it over here shouldn't be much a of problem. I'm guessing they have a deal with the US carrier to keep it exclusive for some time.
I hope so too, I mean I was looking at getting the RAZR i but then when I found out its only a single core (admittedly at 2.0 Ghz) and the same screen which the RAZR already had I was a bit disappointed with it, and switching on to T-Mobile now so I can get 4G I am hoping it does come out in the UK because I shouldn't take much to get it to work over here

I'm gonna pick one up next month ($650+tax for the device iirc).
I think the LTE won't work here (it's probably the 700/1700/2100 version, but with the latter two disabled), but after seeing EE's pricing and usage allowances, I have zero interest in an LTE service right now!!

I think exactly the same, i was under the impression that T-Mobile and Orange was going to be took over by EE then an upgrade for compatible devices to 4G LTE service. Thats why i switched to T-Mobile. Then when i found out you have to have a separate contract for like £30 a month for like 500mb I instantly thought forget that. Im pay £21 a month for unlimited minutes, texts and data, it'll do me for now
I actually asked Motorola this and they have no plans to bring the Razr Maxx HD to Europe (would post the link but I can't being a newbie.

I've just bought a Razr Maxx, because I simply couldn't get a Maxx HD or they were ridiculously expensive. I have a HTC One X, but the battery life is just so poor and I tend to travel a lot. The Razr i just isn't very impressive and I wanted the battery life. Ordered it from ValueBasket. Free delivery and it came all the way from Hong Kong! So were these phones just simply never released in the UK?
I had a HOX before but sold it due to the horrendous battery life. Tegra 3 + 1800mAh battery = failure.
Maxx HDs go for a reasonable amount on eBay, but obviously there's the risk of getting stung with import duty...
But would the Maxx HD work properly in the UK?
I am toying with the idea of bringing one back with me from the USA. Turns out you can buy one from Amazon sim-free, but it will still have the Verizon logo on it (which I don't really care about, as long as it works properly on O2 over here!)
Should work fine - it's SIM unlocked outside of America. There's a thread here called "Maxx HD in Europe" or something with loads of people reporting success with it.

I've just looked on Amazon.com - now showing as $99 - but looks like you need to take a contract with Verizon
Why won't they release this phone in Europe!!!! I think would be a sleeper hit once everyone worked out the battery life is awesome....as I understand it.

Old news, actually, and it's useless since you're out of pocket for the full cost and they'll reimburse you whenever (could be weeks, months later). Motorola blew it with this ICS fiasco and screwing people in the process. It's already been worked out that the so-called $100 rebate thing works out to like $25 or so in the long run, and it's just a joke overall.
You'll note that page linked above says "we’re planning to roll out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to most of our devices first offered for sale in 2011 or later." and was just updated today, yet there is another page that's been up for weeks now that says the same thing but doesn't use the words "most of our" so, it's Motorola being stupid again. And it's not some damned typo either, but they can't be held to their own word and I and many other people are simply done with them for the most part.
I own a Photon and it'll be the last Motorola hardware I ever put actual cash into owning because of their flipflopping and basically lying to people over this whole situation.
If they want to give me a RAZR MAXX HD for all this crap, fine, I'd be happy to own one I suppose (even in spite of the many failings it has), but that's a foregone conclusion at this point.
Also, they changed it again apparently: originally it was going to be cash back to you in the form of a check and now they added that second section:
Provided in the form of a Verizon Wireless Gift Card, Motorola Visa Prepaid Card, carrier credit, or other equivalent at Motorola’s sole discretion.

If it ain't actual cash in the pocket, it's pretty much useless to me.
Now it looks like we could only buy photon q if you stick with sprint

motorola no more
This is total BS. They came up with win-win solution. Sell more new phones making $100 less in profit on each, and make it a lame excuse for eliminating upgrade development costs. This is such a blatant disregard of the existing customers. How is it possible that a phone released on August 19, 2011 became and stayed outdated exactly 2 months later, when ICS was announced on Oct 19, 2011

Funny... I just posted a comment on the motorola-posts-list-of-phones-not-receiving-jelly-bean-confirms-which-phones-will-get-the-update page of the droid-life . com site. I said that JB upgrade table looks like ICS upgrade table a year ago. The one that got edited in Q3 2012 with Photon 4g no longer in it. My post stayed visible for 30 seconds and then was promptly removed
No real surprise, they can't even get the entire division on the same page, literally: one place says "most phones offered in 2011 and later" (which by using the word "most" gives them some room to maneuver with) and another page says "phones offered in 2011 and later" which means every phone they released in 2011 and up to this point in time.
That really irks me for some reason, it's the literal interpretation of the left side of the mouth doesn't know what the right side is saying.
Why even worry about that BS buyback program? If you have a MoPho, you're on Sprint and you have nothing coming from Motof**k. And the fact is, if you really want ca$h for your device, you'll get $150+ from eBay. Instead of whini g, we should do what we can to supportmymoto.com

Well, no, I'm not on Sprint, and many people like me aren't either considering the Photon is unlockable for domestic GSM use in the US (even though Sprint really didn't/doesn't like that happening). I use T-Mobile without issues, and I didn't get this phone from Sprint either so for me, Sprint is 100% irrelevant in this situation.
As for selling it, I've got mine listed on craigslist for $100 right now because I don't deal with eBay/PayPal and their ripoff tactics, plus I'd prefer cash in the hand but, still no bites. Sooner or later someone will most likely contact me about it - I mean a dual core smartphone for $100... what's not to love?
I'm just curious as to whether I'll be able to trade my Photon for $100 toward a Verizon Moto phone; if they'll allow me to get the rebate while crossing carriers. I'm done with Sprint in March when my contract comes up, but I still love Motorola. Not even sure if I'd need to root, as the main two reasons I root are for free hotspot and titanium backup, and I didn't even use titanium backup last time I went back to stock. I do love the Razr Maxx HD for its battery life and screen, and I still like Moto for the quality and reception.
^ Motorola doesn't care if you cross carriers. You just have to send in your Photon. So as long as you buy the new phone, they don't care. I'd leave under good terms, they might not honor the rebate if the ESN is bad. So yes, you could trade it towards a Verizon phone.

What if you could apply it towards an HTC instead?

Not when your phone has cracked housing and scratched screen and you are very definitely in a Verizon area with not a lot of Sprint customers (Arkansas used to be Alltel headquarters until VZ bought them). I've seen photons nearly identical to the condition of mine on ebay for 125. I won't be able to trade mine in until March when my contract is up and the phone will devalue further. At that time, if the phone is still in the same condition it is now, I might be able to get a few extra bucks off ebay or maybe Craigslist if I get someone stupid, but the convenience of just handing it to the VZ person and getting my 100 bucks off a RAZR MAXX HD beats the effort behind making an extra 10 to 20 bucks.

Just my personal taste... the Photon is my favorite phone I've ever had, and I have always liked the Moto smartphones (except for the QWERTY's) but I couldn't get them before because I was on Sprint. I didn't like my wife's HTC, and I didn't like my Epic 4g, my wife's Nexus S 4G, or my friend's Epic Touch. All had signal issues. The Photon is awesome with reception, and my buddy's Moto phones have always been the same.
I don't feel so betrayed by the lack of upgrade to ICS. The phone works fine until my contract is up and I can get away from Sprint.
