I'm wanting to backup & format my SD card following a problem with Sense not loading described in another thread. Having read various threads about this problem it seems that some, if not all, revolve around issues with the SD card.
Through File Explorer, on the phone, I've selected ''Show all Files'' from within my SD card directory. However after connecting my phone to my PC thru active sync there are some files that are visible on my phone in the SD card directory which aren't visible in the SD card folder on my PC screen. I've tried to find the show all files setting on my pc but haven't been able to.
Thing is I don't want to backup my card then format it and possibly not backup all files that are present on the card.
Any help appreciated.
Hi there,
Two days ago I copied all the files on my SD card to my laptop, changed my card from a 2Gb one to a 8Gb and copied all the files back again onto the new SD card. I never even looked for hidden files neither on the phone nor on the laptop and it all went without any problems and all is working fine.
For sake of good order, I can't guarantee it will work with you as well, but it should.
Bye,
Itamar

Hi, thx for the reply. Think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and go ahead.
Cannot restore to 1.4.0 via [Stock Firmware]Restore Barnes & Noble Nook 1.4.0 from SD
I just wanted to post that I cannot get this, [Stock Firmware]Restore Barnes & Noble Nook 1.4.0 from SDCard (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190) to actually work. My Nook Tablet had the 1.4.1 update applied.
Since I have fewer than 10 posts, I could not reply to the actual thread in the Developers forums.
I have tried with two SanDisk SDCards, a 2 GB and a 16 GB, and neither will boot with the acclaim_update.zip file.
I have tried formatting the cards with NTFS, FAT & FAT32. With NTFS and FAT, the Nook will not boot. With FAT32, it boots but seems to ignore the SDCard.
Anyone else having these issues?
I believe that it has to be an SD card that has been in the Nook before and has all of the Nook/Android Folders on it.
Put a card in the Nook,
Boot it up,
Make sure that the "SD Card Installed" notification is on the bottom left,
Turn the Nook off,
Remove card and hook it up to your PC,
Copy the .zip to the Root of the SD Card (do not put it in a folder, just on the card; h:\acclaim_update.zip),
Put SD back in Nook and power back on.
From what I have read, this should work. If it doesn't I am sure AdamOutler or Indirect will be along shortly to help you out!
In the mean time, you might want to try running Indirect's one click unroot/factory restore. It will probably restore 1.4.1 since that is what you have already, but it could be a fun way to pass the time...?
I ran the one-click unroot on my Nook yesterday and it worked fine. I already had 1.4.0 with OTA's blocked by freezing the devicemanager.apk so when it unrooted/restored it still has 1.4.0
As long as you moved the file from the Download folder to the root of the SD card, it should work.
OK...here is what I did to get it to work. BTW...this only worked with my 2GB card...not the 16 GB...odd.
I inserted the SDCard and unmounted it and formatted it in the Nook.
After it was formatted by the Nook, I turned the Nook off, removed the card and copied the acclaim_update.zip to the root of the card via my PC.
I then inserted the card back and it proceeded to wipe the Nook. It booted and was at 1.4.0 but the N button didn't work.
I removed the SDCard and then did a factory reset (power + N for 8 times). It booted, I registered my Nook, downloaded my books I own, and then turned off wifi.
So as of right now, I am sitting at 1.4.0. Time to root and then research how to block the update from coming back down.
Thanks for the help...
for some reason I can't get this to work.
When my NT boots up, it just comes up like normal. it doesn't restore 1.40. Am I doing something wrong?
I also put in my micro sd in to my NT and erased/formatted it, then powered off my NT, copied the .zip file on to the micro sd card root and put back in the NT and powered up and got nothing.
By reading the previous post, it looks like the poster just copied the .zip file on to the micro sd root. Is that the case or did you extract the file in to the micro sd root?
I am having problems still. Nothing happens when I power up my NT with the micro sd card in it. Well, it powers up like normal. It doesn't restore 1.40.
I want to make sure I am doing this right though. I just copy the .zip file to the micro sd card, correct?
I don't need to extract the .zip file do I? I was just confused on that because 1 page I found said "Download file acclaim_update.zip, unzip and copy it to microSD".
I have tried on 3 different micro sd cards and no luck on any of them... Hopefully I am doing something wrong and a genius here can assist
No, don't extract the zip. You might need to try different cards. Some have reported better luck with SD than with SDHC.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried 2gb, 4gb, 8gb, and 16gb micro sd cards, and the Nook still boots with 1.4.1
I just tried kingbobyjr's technique of formatting the 2gb in the Nook. The 2gb is now FAT32, with the following files in the root. (The 5 directories were put there during the Nook format).
.android_secure (dir)
.dataviz (dir)
B&N Downloads (dir)
LOST.DIR (dir)
My Files (dir)
acclaim-update-stockrecovery.zip (I downloaded the original zip again, and it ended up with a different filename (acclaim-update.zip). I tried this file and it still didn't work.
I really hoped that the 2gb card would do the trick. What could be gumming up the works?

I believe "acclaim-update.zip" is correct. There was a file floating around with a different name that was not correct.

Try this file.
I couldn't get the one for goo-insideme.com to work even when named correctly. Don't know why.
Thank you. I am going to try that.
I have several micro sd cards... Well... I have 3 or 4 different cards. 2 are 2gb, and 2 are 4gb. All from different brands. I will post my results shortly.
Figured it out! At the acclaim download site, I went to the previous page (goo-inside.me/roms/TeamKomin/nooktablet) and noticed that the file name there is acclaim_update.zip (an underscore instead of a hyphen). I renamed the update file on my sd card and it then worked!
The name suggested by the download link wasn't correct (in my case any way).
I'm a happy camper. Now onto root and disabling OTA.
One Little Difference...
Gentlemen,
I used this procedure several times the other day using a 32 GB SDHC card.
Big difference I noted was that the file I downloaded was named:
acclaim_update.zip
Note that's with the underscore between the first two words.
I don't know what is really required, but after reading your posts I went back
and looked to see if I had read it wrong.
Might check the various threads to see which file name is correct.
Hope this helps.
Rev
NOTE: Others have been checking too, but I went back to the D/L site and it calls for an
underscore there. That may not be the only problem, but we can remove one complication!!!
success at last!
I tried using different SanDisk SD cards - reformatted, moved file, insert card, turn on Nook, NOTHING... lather rinse repeat. The magic was using my lowly 2G PNY micro.
Reformatted using fat32 - moved zip file AS IS (do not unzip) - turn on Nook - magically rolls back to 1.4.0!
When the nook is done doing its thing the "N" home button did not work, but resolved easily enough. Everything else went according to plan

Awesome work! THANKS!!
Tried Everything with no luck!
Have tried two different 2gigs,
a 4gig,
and a 8gig.
formatted with nook,
formatted with PC fat32.
Renamed file both ways,
downloaded file over and over.
I Have tried everything suggested in this thread at least twice.
Nook still boots straight up by passing any update.
Could there be something the 1.4.1 update that kills the sd update
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!:
Are you sure that the file is named acclaim_update.zip??
It seems many people who where having problems had the file misnamed.

Your file worked, while the goo-insideme.com one did not, just as you said. Thanks!
Still nothing but straight boot up (no 1.4.0 update)
Yes I have tried the one at goo, and the one deeper in the directory with no luck at all. I think it just isn't reading the sd card at boot, or doesn't like the file I am using...are there any other way????
very frustrating, but thanks for all the help!
Three different SD cards, 2GB, 8GB, 16GB, all formatted with the tablet once, added zip to root of card, no luck. Re-formatted with PC, added zip to root of card, no luck. One time I got into the restore, but it gave me a red exclamation point. I've tried all three cards and can't even boot into restore to get the red exclamation point.
I've also downloaded the acclaim_update.zip file five seperate times (twice from the dir, three times from goo), no luck.
Help!
All,
I'm S-on, unlocked and rooted on the latest stock ICS release. I updated Ti backup a couple of weeks ago and ever since then my rez has issues recognizing my 32gb Sd card. every once in a while it will be fine, but on those occasions when I reboot or swap batteries it only sees an empty folder named Titanium back up,
I did not see any empty folder when I looked at the sd card on the pc. through the card reader. all my expected folders and files were there. not sure what is going on but I'm about to try copying everything onto the pC and then format the SD card. and copy things back. but that is a time consuming PITA and I'd rather not do that if there is a simple fix.
any ideas?

I would back it up and then format it.
Hi,
I two days ago rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2). Before i rooted i transferred some files to my computer and i did same with my 4GB sandisk external SD Card, just incase.
So i took my SD card out and mounted it on my computer and then mounted it back to my phone and started to root.
After all was done i notice that all the apps that i had moved to External SD were gone (they were there but only as an android with the name "loading")
Now i can't even move new apps and games to SD card and i can't move them back since they "Aren't installed anymore"
What would cause this to happen, was it the rooting or the fact that i had unmounted the SD card before?
Also, now that i want to backup my stock ROM i can't do it on the SD since CWM doesn't recognize it. I can however backup to Internal, but i am planning to make a factory reset of my phone, so i can "start again" and it would be a great shame to loose my backup files.
Thank you for the time.
1st try your sd card in another phone to see if the problem is with the card or the phone.
If the problem with card replace it.
If it is with the phone, try rerooting your phone.
