maybe tasker is better. but i could not config it. verrrrrrrrryyyyyyy hardddd.....

You can try Juicedefender which is available in market. This starts the connection automatically when the screen is on and turns off data when the screen is off.

[Q] Automatic enable/disable 3G (battery drain)

Hi everyone,
Coming from Windows Mobile & iPhone system, I realized Android system doesn't automatically enable/disable 3G, thus it drains the battery if I leave it on, or have to go through the inconvenience to manually enabling it before starting browser, chat, or Facebook.
Since this is only my 4th day on the Streak, I'd like to ask if anyone knows there's a widget or app like this?
With many thanks,
Tom.
Tasker is a pretty useful app for that kind of stuff, I have it configured to turn on airplane mode on launching certain apps, but you can just as easily set it to turn on data and have it default to data off.

If i am not wrong the windows/iPhone never enable 3G or 2G automatically. you have to toggle 3G on and off manually
Two ways to do this. first, if it's a widget you want, there's one built in. Long press the home "room" and select widgets. Then select the Power control Widget. It gives you single button push for bluetooth, wifi, gps, active sync, and brightness control.
The other way is press on the little tray that has the battery and other icons in it, and you will see the button to turn wifi on or off, as well as bluetooth.
Juice Defender does what you want. It disables 3g when asleep, turning on periodically to check for email and stuff and enables 3g when your phone is awake. Very customisable too!

You can automate this with 3GBattery.

APP to auto terminate Data Connection Edge/3G

i am dead tired in finding an app that does the same ..However i m unable to find something even close..In All the phones i used before this while surfing if the data connection is not being used , the phone wud terminate the connection temporarily and when u click a new link the connection wud be setup again...I read a lot on the internet and want to stop battery drain caused by an "always active" connection..Its a pain..Anybody ANy clues ??? Tried Juice Defender Doesnt HElp !!
I don't understand what you want.
You want something that automatically switches Mobile Data OFF when not used ? And when you hit any app that requires internet to switch it ON ?
the first part like u said when a page is fully open and i m reading it and there has been no data access for a while , the connection shud terminate on its own and not by my going all the way upto the notification slider
I understand now.
Try tasker, you can do whatever you want with that app. You can control every part of the phone. I'm using it and I've got to admit that it is amazing. This is the kind of app that makes Android a beauty.
Juicedefender does exactly wat u said...
green power free is the best! i set it to open the data for 1 min every hour....you can customize it as you wish
try juicedefender + ultimatejuice, work nice for me
I accomplish the same thing using a firewall that enables when the screen turns off and disables when the screen turns on. What I've found is that it doesn't save any battery to turn off 3G when there is no data being transferred. So long as the firewall is up, I can leave 3G and Wifi on. I get about 70 hours of battery on the Optimus V using this configuration.

Tasker

Does anyone use this app? Seems it would automate almost anything on the phone. Any ideas or set ups on what automation works would be appreciated.
thanks

I use AutomateIt, it does a lot of stuff. Gonna go check this one out.
AutomateIt does all the same stuff, from what I could see, and for free.
I use tasker... I love it. I have tasks that puts the phone into silent mode when I get into my office, and one that turns the volume down low during night hours... the possibilities are almost endless.
Tasker is awesome! I use it to automagically turn on Bluetooth, GPS, but mainly got it to mute in meetings.
I prefer Llama. Its free and working great. Easy to set up, too

I think tasker has a lot of possibilities.. I have this app, but can not figure out how to program it for the life of me!
I would like to make it so when I pull the device out of my pocket, the screen will light up (light sensor trick)
However, I can not figure it out.. has anyone done this on the Atrix, and if so, would you mind sharing?
Main thing I use it for is Google Maps. I have it set to automatically turn on GPS as soon as I open Maps. I'll admit though..that trying to program Tasker is a task in itself..and I can never get other peoples Profiles to install onto my phone from their website.

Does anyone know why I would be getting an error "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped" whenever a tasker function is started?
I used the wiki page to set up the GPS to enable for Navigation and Maps using the Secure Settings add on. Whenever I start the Navi I get the error message, then have to exit and re-enter the app. After the first time, the error message does not pop up again, no matter how many times I open and close Navigation. The GPS works fine, and disables when I exit the app, but it's kind of annoying.
Thanks

[Q] Lightest data-toggle scheduling

I'm looking for one of those simple processes that turn on the 3g for x minutes every y minutes, I don't even need to change sync settings or refresh anything because I'd only use it for whatsapp, which syncronizes automatically as soon as 3g is on. I only check emails when I feel like it.
Soo, in the end I've found some programs allowing all this: juice defender, greenpower, 2x battery etc, but I don't really need all the other power saving functions such as cpu settings, brightness, etc, Everything regarding "battery saving" is already done by myself. I need only the 3g toggle, that's why I didn't simply ask "whats the best battery manager?" =). In the end, which is the lightest and fastest program to do this? I don't want a heavy process using too much cpu/memory, nor I want conflicts of toggle on/off when I'm using the phone, nor i want delays in toggling or loops being stuck after a while.
Another app I've found here on XDA is Data Easy Pro, it seems very light and essential to me, but it has very few comments about comparisons with those big apps out there. Opinions on who used it here?
And lastly, what about Tasker, setting just the 3g script by myself seems essential enough for me, is the program light, delayless and worthy?
Thanks!
Bumpity =(
me too
I'm also searching for an app which can turn on the 3g for x minutes every y minutes
Does anybody have an answer to this please?

Useful Tasker Profiles

I figured we could start a collection of our Tasker profiles that we all use on our G2s. I haven't seen a thread for our specific phone while searching, so I wanted to start one (if there is one and I missed it, then mods, please delete this).
So what do you all use for Tasker profiles? I have one set to turn data on when my screen is on and off when my screen is off, but that's it for now really. I'm not too handy with Tasker yet, but I'd like to get some others set up in the future.
Everything?

thanks.
can anyone explain how to set Tasker to turn my mobile data off when my screen is off, but to kick it back on to sync every X minutes and as long as there isn't an active transfer?

This is default behavior. Unless you're charged by connection time, it is pointless.

This isn't default behavior. What he's asking is to disable all background network activity when his screen is off. Which is pretty silly IMO, but perhaps he wants to monitor his data usage that closely.
Context: State Display->Display State: Off
Task:
Net->Mobile Data: Off
That should revert when the screen is on, so it will turn Mobile Data back on when the screen is back on.
If you really want to run every 15 minutes (for example)....
Context: State Display->Display State: Off
Time->From: 00:00 to 23:59 Repeat: 15 minutes
Task:
Net->Mobile Data: On
Task->Wait 1 minute
However, it might not be this simple. You might need additional logic, for example if Tasker is running the "turn data on for a minute" task and you turn the phone on, it might turn Mobile Data back off, because it'll revert the task. Things like this can introduce a little complication to such things, but not difficult. You could always check if the screen is on before turning off data, etc.
If you really want a way to check if traffic is being transfered, there's a post on XDA about it I found first thing when googling. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892232
G2 running CM11, disable double-tap wake during calls
I know this isn't a request thread but you guys seem to know your way around Tasker. CM11 has the "double-tap wake" option in Display settings but a common issue is that it isn't disabled by proximity sensor during phone calls causing the screen to turn on and go buck wild sending"face emails" and trading your fantasy football QB away. How can I turn double-tap wake off in a task?
Thanks,
Chip
this is a really useful profile, turns data off when screen is off only if there is no traffic, and checks for new messages or syncs apps every 10 minutes, does other stuff to, check it out
