Therein lies the potential problem. I believe all the multitasking logic is part of the kernel.
Therefore, until we can replace the kernel (either via an official update from Motorola or an unlocked bootloader), we're stuck with the 2.3.4 kernel, which probably means, no improvement in the multitasking.
What really has be upset now is, Motorola is releasing a new RAZR called the Developer Edition which was the bootloader unlocked.
We didn't want to have to purchase a new frickin' phone! Unlock the bootloaders for the phones we already own, you putzes!

This crap that Motorola is pulling has sealed their fate with me: I will no longer get ANY Motorola devices.
I mean, I have to purchase another phone in order to have it unlocked? And then, it HAS to be the RAZR? No removable battery? No way.
I mean, HOW many versions of the RAZR are they going to release? Ridiculous!

Partly, but Dragonzkiller has gotten ICS (CM9) to boot up on the X2, but it's very pre-alpha. Probably FCs a lot. But, he is working on it. Eventually, we should see CM9 for the X2, but it won't be a full-blown ICS. Until the kernel is unlocked (if that ever happens), we won't be able to replace it with the ICS kernel which will better utilize the two-cores for multitasking.
This thread was not started about the fake but to find out exactly what the kernel has to do with ics. I noticed even dk's has the gb kernel. Was just trying to find out if we were really going to get ics cm9 from dk or just gingerbread with ics on top. Either way i still support dk with his efforts just trying to get educated, i will still use cm9 even if it's not entirely pure.

It's as pure as he can get it. Until we have a way to replace the kernel, we won't be able to get a completely "pure" ICS unless Motorola releases ICS for X2. In that case, we'll have a pure ICS kernel and then all DK has to do is what he did with CM7 - recompile the rest and get it working for CM9. But, I don't know if we'll ever see ICS for the X2. Motorola hasn't said yes or no, but if we do get it, it probably won't be until late this year. If we don't see it by the end of the year, my guess is, we'll never see it.
Motorola has dropped the X2 like a bad habit, which is a shame. Way to screw your customers Moto. That's why I won't be back.
I'm with you on the motorola bootloader deal. This will probably be my last moto phone. until my plan is up I'm stuck with it.

The one thing I like about Motorola phones is the ability to SBF if anything goes wrong. Do other manufacturers offer this kind of feature? If not, that would probably be the thing that keeps me with Motorola. But I agree. I hate that they aren't unlocking the bootloader for us.

You just flash the system partition image and kernel. Which is basically what the sbf does. You still get to keep your recovery too because its in the recovery partition and the system flash doesn't write it.

Yeah it is truly ics. The kernel has nothing to do with ics. A new kernel would make is run smoother and easier. Think of your kernel as you cars motor. The body a rom. Kernel makes the car move. So in essence it might be a different motor but its still that mustang body

Everything about this phone screams a port of the Atrix. This phone just doesn't feel like the successor of the DX, just the mash-up of the failure on ATT and the shell of the DX.

I just got the X2 and it's been running fine for me. It seems with the Tegra 2, this phone would possibly be able to handle Android 4.0 whenever it comes out. With the lack of development, what are the chances that the X2 will just ride with GB until its death? I like so far how the phone is working well out of the box, but in 1-1.75 years when the phone shows its age, I would like to mod it here and there to get some more life out of it.
No phone is future proof. The Tegra3 is around the croner for tablets, and phones wont be that far behind. I would bet 4g phones get the Tegra3, so if 4g is a negative for a select crowd, the DX2 may be the last great 3g phone. It will be interesting to see if they continue supporting a high-end 3g line.
I would imagine ICS would run fine on OG DX much less DX2. I would say there is a small, but possible chance a stock DX2 would die on GB. But the dev will bring it regardless.
Edit: And at this point I am 100% satisfied with everything I have flashed on DX2. What did DX have? Liberty and Apex. And yes a good bit of themes. But the devs here have a ton of scripts I never saw on DX and the themes have been coming fast, and are of good quality. The eclipse ROM has branched to AOSP, so both crowds should be happy. I personally stuck with 2.2 and couldnt be happier.

Per Droid Life, and Twitter, Verizon tweeted that they are in the midst of updating their Software Upgrade Timeline. Droid Life is stating they feel the X2 is a yes in getting it.

I have to agree with this list. Although I don't think the x1 down will receive ICS to push users to get newer devices.
It better also come with an unlocked bootloader IF we get ICS!

True, very true. But, to have an official ICS means possibly that Dragonzkiller and company can REALLY go to town on CM9 for the X2!
Motorola better not stiff us on ICS like they did the boot loaders.

That's because ICS was a major upgrade from Gingerbread, especially at the kernel level. It was more of a rewrite than an upgrade.
Hence, this is looking for ICS libraries. It's possibly also looking for an ICS kernel which we don't have AND won't have unless Verizon decides to release ICS for the X2.
We are at the mercy of Verizon on this one.
Remember, CM9 will still have the GB kernel, not an ICS one since we cannot replace the kernel due to the locked bootloader. Again, at the mercy of Verizon AND Motorola on the locked bootloader.
I've been waiting for Chrome on Android for the entire time I've had an Android (about a year and a half). I just came across an article about on another website, read the whole thing with excitement, and then shot a baby when I read it was only for ICS. WTF?! That's very disappointing to me. Any thoughts as to why they did that? Maybe because it's beta and wanted limited exposure at first?
If they just now started working on getting chrome out then it really doesn't make sense to release it on gingerbread and ics. I would expect that it would be released for their newer os rather than the one that is going to be phased out. Maybe once they get all the bugs worked out they will release a version usable on gingerbread, so phones that won't be updated, or even new phones that aren't as powerful as the phones sporting ics, will be able to use it.

Because we are stuck on the gingerbread kernel, CM9 may not work unless Motorola releases ICS for DX2. As stated earlier, apk needs libraries from the ICS kernel. The only other option is to hack the actual apk.

Yes, the JB and ICS kernel are the same, we have to wait for the developers to get us a working build of JB.
thank you for replying with this information. and thanks to all the developers for building the roms.
I looking at my magic 8 ball and it says a JB ROM is most likely in the distant future.
I have never built a room, but i would think this would take a lot less time then ice cream sandwich, especially if its the same kernels and radios. Now undoubtedly if we get official jellybean it'd use newer kernels then we have now. And since we can use the same radios and kernels, i would think the locked bootloader wouldn't be an issue. Ah ok. Well, yes. I don't think it'll take as long as it did with ICS, but then again, you never know.. There could be some major hiccup along the way and delay it, or it could be done by tomorrow.. I'm hoping for the second one in that But we'll see
Personally, I think that we won't see Jelly Bean from Motorola, if we get it, will be thanks to the dev community...
i read somewhere on a XDA port for galaxy nexus i think. That JB is almost the same as ICS but it need a modification in ramdisk to work, unless what it wont boot.
So without an unlocked bootloader and/or KEXEC we're done
I am trying to get my head around porting ROMs...but my severe lack of knowledge has been a roadblock so far. If someone can and want to join hands in this venture, they are more than welcome...PM me with the details and we will take it forward...
Always remember, great things have small beginnings.

I know that some of the code for the DX2 has come from the Atrix forums because (i think) we share a processor with that phone right?
Does this news (of a leaked ICS from Motoblunder) mean anything for us?
Would the seventh seal be broken and the moon turn red as blood if I tried to flash this to my DX2? (Or just a regular bricking?)
Anybody have an opinion?

I was wondering the same thing. It seems that a lot of things are ported from the Atrix
I do believe that a lot of stuff is pulled from the Atrix. But it doesnt change the fact that we still have a locked Bootloader. Without that, I dont think these kinds of things would help us fully. Maybe a little bit more code can be pulled from it to make our ROM better but again, our bootloader is still locked so we cant change the kernel or anything.
And also, DO NOT FLASH THAT ROM ON YOUR DX2! ROMs are not interchangeable. Flashing anything made for another ROM will ruin your phone.
I wonder if the camcorder could be ported over?

I doubt it. I would think the camera has something to do with the drivers. And I dont think we can install drivers. Dont quote me though. I'm just guessing.
i knew these questions would appear soon. but yeah, this probably wont help us much since, like said above, we dont have an unlocked bootloader, and the only things different between the atrix && the x2 is that the unlocked bootloader, the x2 has 512 mb of ram && the atrix has 1 gb
That ICS leak also comes with the appropriate ICS kernel for the atrix, flashing it on the dx2 would do no good.
