Dump .pit file - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've accidentally used a .pit file while flashing xxkl2 and now, i can't even revert to kg2 or any older firmware, it just errors out in recovery. I can't even install CM7 =/, goes to kernel panic mode.
Can someone try this out (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960946), and dump their .pit? I'm not sure if this works, but i'll give almost anything a go.
Thanks in advance.

Why not just try this:

[Q] i flashed wrong kernel plz help me

ok i flashed team whisky 2.2.1 4g based rom to vibrant later i flashed stock 2.2 kernel on team whisky site. I know it must have been a wrong kernel for the rom. But can any plz tell me the easiest way to get my phone back running it only goes to the boot samsung screen i cant get into clockwork but downloading screen. Please and thx plz provide links
You need to use put your phone into download mode, use Odin to flash .
update
the rom i had was bionix frost 2.2.1 is there some kind of way to just reflash a rom to get my phone back running
You can PM tomorrow, if you don’t have the files.
Yes,you need a tar file and using Odin
Your phone is soft brick! You can still flash but only by using Odin. Do you know how to use Odin
If you can still get in to CWM and you left the ROM on your internal SD, just re-flash. Everything should work after that. That would be the easiest way, followed by ODIN.
As long as you have a complete ROM on your internal SD card you should be able to get into recovery (hopefully) via the hardware buttons and re-flash that ROM with its correct kernel.
Otherwise you are stuck having to go with odin/heimdall and flashing it that way.
Goodluck.
how exactly do i use odin i downloaded it but what do i have to do first i still have a copy of the bionix rom on sd
Use the Vibrant Toolbox here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 It's the easiest way to go back to stock. Also, anytime you have a problem like this it's best to just Odin back. Reflashing through clockwork can leave alot of bugs.

Flashing Simply Honey Revolution 3.9

Hey guys so I am interested in flashing the simply honey revolution ROM on my samsung vibrant. But I am stuck. The instructions call for you to flash via Odin with the 512 PIT file. But when I download the light version for first flash in the instructions I find a .tar file. How do I flash this rom? Thanks for your help!
I have the same question, since I am used to work on the EVO 4G but not this phone. Any help will be appreciated. I already flashed a gingerbread bootloader, but I still need to flash this ROM.
Put the tar file in the pda and pit in the pit section.
just use that file but open PDA selection. it will flash it. also make sure you odin a gingerbread boot loader first.
Ok, understanding a little bit more. Right know I have the zip and the tar file inside that one. I don't have any Pit file mentioned. Also in the instrutions doesn't say if the phone needs to be in download mode or whatever mode. Thanks for any other info.
It should be in download mode to use ODIN.
Okay let me see if I have this process correct. From the page I download this http://www.multiupload.com/KP8HBPR20Z from under the instructions coming from eclair/froyo. Inside I see the .tar file. (not a .pit file). In ODIN i put the .tar file under PDA and click start. Once that is done I can download the bootloader and flash that via ODIN. Is this correct?
yeh
or you could use rom manager to flash whichever package you want after odining the light version instead of flashing the bootloaders
dont do it
I just went through hell flashing that rom and even BRICKED my phone. (well semi-brick, none of the buttons worked) I made the same mistake as you. Dont use the Simply_Honey_3.8_LightOdin file, use the one that is named simply_ODIN_HEIM . The light odin is bull****. Didnt work for me. I dont even want to guess why...
Good Luck!
Remember to open the .zip and extract the .tar, zip's cant be flashed in odin

[Q]I flashed the new ICS leak through ODIN and now..

well, besides the many bugs, my carrier internet 3G or any internet at all is failing, nothing works, add to that the fact that i can barely make phone calls due to lousy mic+speaker quality.
so, i wanted to restore my settings to my old ones, but when i entered CWM i found out i dont have the option to restore and its a different CWM
and i dont have a root.
so my question is -
how do i restore my system to the regular state?
thanks alot!
Can you still put the phone in download mode? If so, you should still be able to flash whatever firmware you want via Odin..
Flash the kernel that you had before with odin, assuming there's a tar version.
first of all if its a clockwork recovery you should still be able to restore your phone...that's if you backed up. if you didn't then go to the development section ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 ) and download your original firmware then flash through odin. should get you back to stock. and then re root, via your kernels.
hope this helps.
excuse me for my ignorance, but the kernal is KP1 for my information, if i put a different kernal, doesn't brick my phone?
i remember once when i did it and i got boot looped.
just asking, thanks!
if i flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
through odin, will it solve my problem?
Yes you can flash another kernel, via Odin flash the latest cf root. Once done enter recovery and restore away cf root injects cwm into the kernel.
As mentioned above, put phone into download mode then flash with odin.

Problem.
So i entered downloading mode, flashed Lite'ning 6.1 through ODIN.
I opened the device, i got bootlooped.
i said ok, ill try CWM.
i went to CWM, i tried restoring and it said it couldn't find the restoration files.. (not the excact name of the error, thats what i understood from it)
what do i do? T_T
SOLVED :
i updated my CWM to a newer version, and now restore works.
thank you all very much for your help, if anything happens, ill post in this thread again ^_^!

Did you wipe your data?
yes. i think something got messed up with the .pit file because i did not get the error screen until i flashed the .pit
By flashing the pit you wiped out every partition on your device except efs. Why did you flash one? You NEVER need a pit unless reverting from mtd or if you screwed up your partitions.

is it able to be fixed? can you give me a .pit file that will work, please?
Follow the instructions in this thread.

The US 4.0 stock rom should be posted there in the next few days. I used the instructions to recover my US 4.0 but I had to use a custom ROM that is buggy. I'm just waiting on the stock ROM.
what rom did you use? did you use odin or heimdall?
Wait for a stock US 4.0 ROM to be released.
I used heimdall and loaded the Klassic ROM. But for the partitions PARAM, CACHE and DBDATA I used the files in the international stock ROM from from zaclimon. I would not recommend mixing them like that. I just did it to practice for when we get a stock ROM for the US 4.0. Currently Android boots but the home button does not work (US version has a touch button instead of a physical button for home) and the settings process crashes on startup.

[Q] Please help! Bootloop

Hope someone can help me with this.
I totally formatted my phone including the internal sd card because I wanted to start fresh.
Now, when I flash a rom I get the yingyang logo blinking and nothing happens.
I downloaded an official firmware and flashed it in odin, and that worked.
So I decided to flash the custom rom I've used for a long time, but the minute i reboot the phone after flashing, the same thing happens.
And now, when I try to reflash the stock rom, i get a MD5 error in odin. Even though its the same firmware that worked earlier.
My phone is useless now, and I cant seem to get it up an running.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this?
EDIT:
Tried to reflash the custom rom with stock kernel and when the i9300 logo appears it hangs for a little while, then I'm back into CWM with the following message:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

Here :
Download a good copy of the stock rom from sammobile.com
Flash it in Odin
Go to recovery and wipe data+cache
Start your rom
Flash CF-Root or however you want to re-root + CWM
Flash your custom rom
Wipe in recovery
Should do the trick + fix the log error.

Thanks for the quick reply
But the problem is that I cannot flash the stock rom in odin because of a md5 error, which is weird since its the same file I used earlier today.
Luckily I had another ROM on my ext sd. tried to flash that now and that worked, so must have been something wrong with the other rom.
But what to about the stock rom issue?
MAybe try to download another stock rom?

The file was corrupted/changed in some way so the MD5 doesn't match anymore.
MD5 sums are often used to compare files to see whether it's the same exact file. If that happens just redownload it, bigger downloads = higher chance of corrupting. I recommend SamMobile for all Samsung related stock FW.
P.S Renaming the file changes it's MD5. I know right?

I did use SamMobile for downloading. The only thing I did afterwards, was moving it from my desktop to another file location.
Then the md5 error came up, so I downloaded the same file again, but this time I tried to flash it from the download location, but the same error
But now my CM10 rom work, so at least my phone is up and running again. Won't bother for now about the stock rom.
Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it
