Audible selections come back on after silent mode is inactivated - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been using this very nice phone for a couple of weeks now and loving it. Got checkrom v4 on it and it is running nice, with one issue.
I use silent mode when I am at work, so as not to annoy my office mates, with it coming on automatically using tasker. When I leave it is turned off, and audible selections is activated in the settings even though it was of before entering silent mode. Does this happen normally our have I stuffed something up in tasker? If it happens normally is there a way of preventing this?

I don't use tasker but not sure about that but when I put the phone on silent the touch tones remain silent.
You may also want to go into settings / sounds and lower the system volume which also lowers that. I find that the stock touch volume is too high.

Hmm maybe I phrased it wrong. I have the audible selections unchecked before I put silent mode on, then silent mode comes on, and they stay unchecked, but when silent mode turns off they become checked again. Its not a big deal to uncheck it but it just annoys me (yea I know first world problem!)
Might see if I can turn down the stock volume to minimal for this and see if it makes a difference, probably the simple solution to the issue (can live without touchtones on the dial pad).

[Q] Silent Mode?

Does anyone else have this problem?
I have an unlocked GS2, running XWKE7, it was supplied like this.
The problem I have is that it often goes into silent mode when left unattended! Not only is it silent but the vibration is switched off, something that I can't it to do myself! If I lower the volume manually, it gets quieter and then goes to Silent but it still vibrates. The auto switching problem makes the ringer Silent with the Vibrate switched OFF.
I had thought it might be happening due to being in my pocket but yesterday, I kept it out of my pocket all day and it did it whilst left on my desk.
I'm currently also using Launcher Pro but it was doing this before I installed LP.

[Q] Vibration turns off automatically

Hi,
I have the annoying problem that my s2 turns off vibration mode when put to silence. If you manually go under settings->sound->silent mode and put that to 'vibrate' it works for that time being. But the next time, it all go back to no-vibration mode.
Looking at my friend phone(s2), he got the option of two different mode of silent when using the volume up/down. One with vibration and one without.
I honestly don't know how to fix this very annoying problem. I just want the vibration to be active at all times!
Any hints that can point me in the right direction?

just change your settings to mute ringtone and media volume for a diffrent profile that you dont use
I tried that, and it doens't work.
I've also reset to factory default, with no luck.
In fact, when I put my phone to silent and manually go to settings to put on vibration( I can see the vibration icon on top). It still does not vibrate on notification, ringing nor sms. But strangely from third party application it vibrates, like whatapp messenger.
vibration work when I have sound on.
So the problem is that when I put it on silent it automatically turns off the vibration mode.. and when I manually put silent mode to vibration, it still doesn't vibrate, only on 3rd party apps..
It sounds to me that this is some software issue, but can't really seem to find any solution to this very annoying problem.
Anyone?

Probably you have a case or somehow are pressing the volume all the way down.
Remember either lowering the volume or power button plus silent mode are the quick shortcuts to enable Vibration mode.
Also when a call is received and the phone is upside down can make the ringing on mute.

In my case Timeriffic was automatically reinstalled from Google Play. the default setting was to set the phone to vibrate at 8PM Mon - Thu. All sorted now.

i had the same problem, you can activate or deactivate this option under settings/sound/automatic feedback
Hmm,
Can't seem to find that seting on my phone, so will have to hope that it was because of Timeriffic.

I know this is an old thread, but all of a sudden my phone seems to randomly switch sound on throughout the day, after i put it on vibrate. I wonder if there's a way to enable vibrate only via the notification bar, rather than the volume keys.
In my opinion the volume keys should only control the current volume, rather than the sound "profile" (mute, sound, vibrate).
Anyway i will be doing some looking into why this seems to happen.
1) you have a case which is pressing the Volume button down
2) Try turning off AUTO HAPTIC FEEDBACK
3) try resetting your phone if all else fails

i have same weird vibrating problems also. I normally set my phone to sound mode no vibrate. whenever someone text me it automatically change the mode to sound+vibrate I've been trying anything but to no avail this still persists.
and BTW I'm using GO SMS.
Even i have been facing this problem with various ROMs..what could be the issue? any help?
S3 auto turns to Vibrate mode
Hi,
For last 2 weeks, i am facing a same problem. randomly few times in a day, message default ring tone rang without any message and after a while (may be after few seconds) it turns to Vibrate.
the only thing new happened to my phone is, its board died all of a sudden (bgr[dot]com/2012/12/21/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-hardware-failure-262887/) and the Samsung service center has replaced it with new board. since then i am facing this problem.
I was using the Nova launcher before the repair, and now after the repair using the same Nova launcher.
Any idea? anyone else facing the same issue? btw, i have turned off the haptic feedback as well, restart the phone also, but issue still persists.
any feedback would be highly appreciated, thanks.

Guys, I am facing similar problem and nothing else is working. I think we should compare notes to find out what is the cause of this problem. Tell me what ROM are you running? Custom or Stock. If custom then which one? What 3rd Party apps are you running that can schedule tasks e.g Tasker, Scheduler etc. Have you turned off Haptic feedback and motion under your phone settings?
My Answers:
Custom ROM Yes
Ripper ROM (Love it and big fan)
Haptic Feedback Off
Motion Feature Disabled
3rd Party Apps Yes
Tasker Yes
Scheduler No
Call recording Yes
I have sam problem with NOTE 2.
Every last incoming call set my "default" sound profil .Depend what I have set ( sound, vibration, mute....) at the incoming call moment.
I found out that AVG antivirus is a problem???? I delete AVG and for now ( two days ) all is OK.
Maybe its the auto mute
There is a feature under motion that puts the phone in vibrate/silent when you "turn it down", maybe that is what is causing you problems? My phone was muting itself with no logical reason and deactivating it did the trick, hope it works for you

[Q] HTC One Sound problem?

I just got my One yesterday and so far ive only had one problem. When I put it on silent or vibrate mode, Notification sounds still play for sms etc. is this a bug or just how the phone works? coming from a galaxy nexus where silent mode would stop all sound.

Mine mutes sound in vibrate. I haven't used silent.
Go into the messaging app press menu and choose settings. There you will find the options for notifications

i have the same problem n this is the second htc one im using n still getting this problem..when i put the phone on silent it will ring out laud when i put it on vibrate it will still ring out laud wtf is going on ??? anybody knows
Why should someone need to modify the SMS app settings? If you put the overall phone on vibrate, that should be the prevailing condition. Mine not only plays notification sounds when on vibrate-only, it also rings...LOUDLY.
I'm having this issue as well! Every time I change the profile, I have to manually set the sound options. When I switch profiles, the settings never save. Does this defeat the purpose of profiles?! Why is this even an issue?! Anyone find a solution yet?
Turn off "Pocket mode"
Nope, still resets all profiles.
The only thing I can think of is maybe the contacts that are calling you are set up as "VIP"?
I saw another thread that said those contacts will always make the phone ring regardless of sound settings..
It's not just the calls. When I go to sounds, I select normal and put all the volumes to max. I go to vibrate and set all of the volumes to mute. When I switch back to normal, the notifications and alarms are mute and the calls are max. Nothing ever saves. I just want normal mode to have all volumes max and vibrate to mute everything. I'm completely new to Android, but there's got to be a simple way to do this.
So you're saying that after you select the "sound profile", you also manually make changes to the individual settings after that?
Because my impression of the profiles is that they are pre-set profiles.. and once you change a setting manually it is not going to "save" that change. The sound profiles are just that: pre-set profiles that you cannot save changes to.
I could be wrong though.
That could be a possibility. I find it a bit peculiar that they give you the options to change settings, but doesn't let you save them. I'm hoping that isn't the case, but if it is is there a way to create your own custom profiles? And would there be a way to switch to those profiles using the quick settings coming out with 4.2.2?
Honestly I haven't been interested in the profile feature. I pretty much keep my phone on one setup which is 80% volume for ringtone/notifications and 60% for media all day I don't need to constantly change profiles. If I need minor adjustments during the day I make them on the spot. So I'd have to look into it

Thanks for the help. I just find it hard to believe there's no way to set your own preferences. I even downloaded a 3rd party app that supposedly allowed you to create your own profiles. I set the Vibrate profile to silence on everything, to test it I text myself and bam the phone makes noise. Awesome. I just don't understand how this can be, it's starting to get a bit frustrating.
So let me ask a couple of questions so that I can target the right solution for you -
1. Are you just looking for something that will 'silence' your phone during certain times of the day/night? Or do you need something more complicated than that?
2. Do you need the sound profile to also have the option to be activated based on location? or just time
thanks
I'm not looking for anything location or time specific. I just want to have the option to switch off all sounds and have vibrate only whenever I need it. And the option to swap back to normal, of which I would like to have everything on full volume. For example, on the iPhone there was an external switch that shut all noises down and switched the phone over to vibrate or silent depending on the users settings. There is no external switch on the HTC One, so I'm trying to find a quick way to do that internally. I thought that was the purpose of the profiles, but I guess I'm mistaken. There must be a way to do this.

Yes, that's how the profiles (should) work.
When you want to switch to silent/vibrate, just select one of those. But don't manually adjust anything after that. Only switch the profile.
But honestly, it just sounds like you need to hold "down" volume until it hits vibrate, or silent.. and then hit "up" volume when you want sound back. Don't understand what it is you're trying to do, sounds like you're over-complicating this IMO. Because you're not asking for anything special.

From the HTC One user guide
Changing ringtone settings
Switching between silent, vibrate, and normal modes
Do one of the following:
- To change from silent to normal mode, press the VOLUME UP button.
- To change from vibrate to normal mode, press the VOLUME UP button twice.
- Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Sound > Sound profile.
Lowering the ring volume automatically
HTC One has a quiet ring feature that automatically lowers the ring volume when you
move it.
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap .
2. Tap Sound.
3. Select the Quiet ring on pickup option.
Making HTC One ring louder in your pocket or bag
To help avoid missing incoming calls when HTC One is in your pocket or bag, the
pocket mode feature gradually increases the ring volume and vibrates when you
receive a call.
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap .
2. Tap Sound.
3. Select the Pocket mode option.
Right, that's what I thought. That this should be extremely easy. However, it is not. One way to do it is to hold the volume rocker in either direction and it changes the profile. BUT, when I switch it to vibrate, the notifications and alarms still make sound. Only the ringtone is silenced. That is not what I want. I want ALL sounds to be silenced, which is what I thought the settings would be for. When I change them it works, everything is silenced. But once I switch back to normal, Vibrate goes back to being ringtone-silent, notifcations & alarms - max volume. I hope my situation makes a bit more sense now. I would consider myself pretty tech savvy, so trust me when I say this is extremely frustrating. Thanks for your help so far though!

I just looked at it again and the "default" volumes for normal mode seem to be max volume and mute notifications and alarms. Why on earth would that be the default. Why would I want my alarms to be silent when its in normal mode. lol So I change notifications and alarm to max volume, switch the profile to vibrate and then back to normal. The volumes are then set back to max volume ringtone and mute notifications / alarm. WHYYYYY..
That's why when I want the phone on vibrate or silent, I just hold volume down. Then nothing makes sound. Not the notifications, ringtones, nothing. Using the profiles sounds like a hassle to me.
When I switch it to vibrate like that, the notifications, alarms and media are all still at max volume.
