Toggle 2g on stock rom? - Xperia Play Android Development

sorry for double post, but i think it rather belongs in here, plz delete thread if not so...
I installed Toggle 2g on cm7 rom, and it worked pretty well, switching to 2g mode after 5/10/30..mins of standby. Great app in my opinion that prolongs the batterylife very good. It uses Injection. Now i got back to stock rom and wanted to ask, if someone could make a version working on stock. There is some instructions on the thread, but i didnt have success, because i dont have a zip of the 0.62 stock rom for CWM, only the ftf file for Flashtool.

Thanks a lot!!!

Nobody else interested in this?

I'm intersted. I think 2g only mode is disabled ion the Three network in the UK so I would like to know how it works and if at all on this network

As far as i know, 2g (for second generation) is just the old standard internet connection, supported everywhere in the world and sucking less energy out of the battery. In a gsm phone 2g is gsm and 3g is umts/hsdpa, donno how it is on a cdma cellphone...

This would save me a ton of battery at work

I tried resigning our phone apks to make the programm work without success.
Anyways im now using superpower again.
Old xda programm, but it works, though its not as smooth as toggle2g because it shuts down connection and afterwards switches to 2g /3g.

I'm using Data on demand which sounds like it does something similar to what you're looking for. Its free on the market and can be set to turn off data with screen off or turn data off as per a set schedule. I've been using it for a few months now

no, data on demand totally switches off data connection, so that you cannot receive emails or chat messages as long as the display is off. toggle 2g just switches the band to a lower signal, so that the speed is lower and the power consumption goes down as well, but the speed is still high enough to receive mails, facebook stuff, twitter, weather... and when you switch your screen back on, you get back the full power of 3g

In that case it sounds like what you've found would be better for me too as as you say, data on demand doesnt allow even mms when screen off

Non-sense toggle data widget

Does anyone know if there is a widget comparable to the sense "mobile" widget, that will turn mobile data on/off, and works with the Eris? I've tried toggle data widget and switchpro and neither of them work. Thanks!

I used to be looking out for one, but I found out I always had one!
I assume your on a vanilla rom and dont have sense? use the control panel. there's a button with a circle and 2 arrows on it.
now this doesn't actually turn off 3g, it turns off active syncing. active syncing is what drains your battery when you aren't touching your phone. so if you turn it of, it will be exactly like if you turned 3G off all together. but! doing it this way, you can open up the browser, and it will still automatically load.
like, if you turn it off, your phone wont be using 3g to constantly check on your new emails, but if you went to the mail application and hit refresh it will bring in the new emails for you.
Thanks, actually I'm trying to convince myself I could use a non-sense ROM. There are many things that I love about sense and the mobile widget is one of them.
I'm on pageplus and only have 50mb of data, so I like to keep the mobile connection off unless I need it for some reason. One time I was listening to pandora over wifi and all the sudden my data usage was maxed out. I believe the wifi radio was turned off after 15 minutes because of one of the phones settings (I've since changed that setting and haven't seen this problem). Needless to say, since then, I've been paranoid.
The suggestion to disable syncing will help but I would prefer to cut the connection completely. That way, any app that might happen to be running in the background (That I no longer need) won't be able to suck away at my limited data. Or, if wifi get's turned off automatically for some reason
Are there any other suggestions?

Thanks rv, I've actually tried that one and it doesn't appear to work on the Eris. Other people have reported the same in the reviews.

I am on page plus also, and i faced the exact same dilemma trying a non-sense rom. I couldn't find anything reliable. I know its not as convenient but what about just pushing the power button for 2 secs and then selecting turn on/off mobile network from that list. I have to do this in sense sometimes because the mobile widget doesn't work occasionally.
For those that are using roms that still have HTC Framework, then a shortcut is to long press the end call button and select the last option. Which is Mobile Network ON/OFF
Atleast that's a workaround but not a complete widget replacement, sorry
Check out beautiful widgets, it's 1.99 but it might have what you need.

u should try droidwall. am on pageplus too and use this one to control the data usage. u can block some or all apps from using 3G and restrict them to just wifi. its free. try it out

Yeah that will work fine, I never noticed that was there... but do the AOSP/Cyanogen builds have this option?

I actually have beautiful widgets, but there isn't one to turn off data.
Just to post an update for anyone interested:
SwitchPro widget works great at least on White Widow. I'm assuming it works on any AOSP ROM. I tried it with a stock sense rom previously and it didn't work for me, so I'm assuming that it doesn't work with sense.

Grey H, full 3G and no internet service!

So as the title says, I'm experiencing times when I have full 3G (I don't live in a HSPA + area) but the H its greyed out. I can make calls and send texts, but can't access any websites. I'm running ginger blur 3.5 but was experiencing this prior to loading it as well. I'm not running any battery saving apps that may be disabling the internet usage. Usually a reboot of the phone will get me service. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!

This might not help you.. I use a widget that can turn on/off mobile data and sometimes it gets a little screwed up. If I go into settings > data > data manager (I believe) and manually turn it off and back on it sometimes fixes my problem. You could try that instead of rebooting sometimes ..not super helpful advice but ya never know.

Did you configure the APN already? Did you try your SIM card on another phone to discard a problem with your line? Is data enabled in data manager?
Check those. That might be the issue
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13838602&postcount=5
works perfectly here, no idea why you have to do it though, obviously you need to make sure your apn settings are correct aswell.

Anyone else notice this cool wifi setting?

A friend of mine, who also has the 3d, noticed that there was a setting in the wifi settings that enables you to set your phone to connect to the strongest wifi signal. Just go to wireless and connections, go to wifi settings, press the menu button, go to advanced, and select best wifi performance. I never noticed this and thought it was awesome since we have a ton of wifi networks at work that are better in certain spots.

I had been wondering if there was a description somewhere that tells exactly what that setting does. I always thought it ran the WiFi radio at a higher current in order to keep a better signal. Are you sure it has anything to do with always picking the strongest signal?

i use an app called green power, its free,it turns off all radios(wi-fi,3g,4g in the paid app)when ur creen turns off and automatically turns them on instantly when u unlock ur screen, does wonders for my batt.life.
It's better to keep wifi connected when the screen is off as it uses less energy than the 3g radio

I'd still like to know your source for the info saying that this setting evaluates the signal from all wifi sources and picks the one with the best signal. This setting is not outlined anywhere other than to mention that it uses more battery. Is it just something you turned on and you noticed it did that... or did you read it somewhere?

Disabling "always on mobile data" will prevent you from getting push email from apps like K9 mail. Won't it? I mean, if I'm waiting for an email and I want to hear a chime when it comes in (I have K9 set up that way), it'll never come through if there's no wifi and I uncheck "always on mobile data". Correct?
Mike
Push email still works. Or At least gmail does..

If you have a spot where this would help, check it out. Mine does it at work. We have a customer wifi and a service wifi that get better strengths in certain spots and it will switch back and forth.

Someone should do a couple runs of Speedtest with this on and off to see if there is a real difference in throughput.
Also, turning off "always on data" does not stop Gmail from syncing, and it does wonders for battery life in my experience.

Correct. Whenever you turn your phone screen on though, data will reconnect and stay connected for a couple of minutes, any e-mails that were waiting to be pushed to your device will then get sent. You won't get any notifications if you never check your phone all day, but I'm usually getting a text every once in a while which I turn the phone on to reply to.
You'll get immense battery savings with always on mobile data turned off as well.

Anyway my question is. is there a way to make everything auto like when you are not using internet automatically turn off 3g or 4g and when u use it automatically turns on 3g or 4g and my talk and text insted of going in to setting and menually turn on

Easily accomplished with an app in the Market called Tasker. It's over $6 but worth it to me. There's also Locale, SettingProfiles, etc but Tasker seems more feature-rich and more actively dev'ed.
When I was not rooted I was getting great battery life using Juice Defender, spend the little bit of money to get the Pro version. It will come on at a time you select to search for gmail or MMS as soon as 15m or every hour, it also has a night sch where it never lets the internet connect. You can also block apps from reaching the internet which I did often on App that wanted full internet access (yea right), it will also turn off WiFi after screen off if you select that as well. It has a ton of options and like I said was getting great battery life while lettting it manage my phone. It will also reconnect to the internet as soon as you screen on. So there you go Auto everything.

Your phone can do that by default if you go to wireless settings → press menu button → advanced settings → disable wifi on sleep.

If your connected to WiFi it will use less power than 3g or 4g, its when your not connected and its searching for a connection that it eats up battery. I toggle WiFi on as soon as I'm home or around WiFi and off as soon as I leave.
Thanks guys fir the info I will try that

Are this stats normal? Please tell me

Hi all ,
I have a brand new mini pro, brought a week ago, and i'm experiencing a battery issue.
I really like it, but the battery runs out in the afternoon.
I've tried to change every kind of rom and kernel, and i changed the battery too.
No improvements.
Please tell me if this stats are good.
I am afraid my phone may be broken.
Thanks

Looking at awake and screen on stats I'd say it's normal. U gave it a heavy beating by the looks of it, or probably some rogue apps making it awake most of the time. But i doubt it's a rogue app because the awake and screen on graph matches each other so it prove u use the phone.
Unstable data traffic may draining battery. Also wifi, sync stuff, gps, n brightness. Check it out.
And u can use some tweak too.

Stay in 2G , u have the same problem like me poor signal 3G/H i don`t now why but the phone realy has poor signal problem compared with other . Better battery u can get if u disable the data (in service they say to disabel but it is a smartphone why to buy smartphone without data?) and disable facebook autosync .
Thanks for reply.
I need data, so i can't disable, but when i am at home, i use wifi instead of data to save battery.
Auto sync is off, facebook is neither installed, brightness less than 50%.
And i don't have background apps running.
Should i use 2g instead of 3g as someone said?

Sure. If u use 3g and you're in a country with poor signal quality your battery will drain faster.
In Italy we have this kind of situations with many operator so we use 2g and when we need faster data (youtube or browser) switch to 3g network
R it may be a hardware problem if none of the above r working take it to sony...it maybe a hardware prob
It not hardware my minipro was compared with Samsung S plus , Gio, Moto Defy , Iphone 3g all with the same stok rom and with same aplications (whatsapp , yahoo , facebook) on 3g (H) and minipro it was very unstable most of time he stay in 2g and other phones stay 3g all the time , the grafic in battery stats say that ...well on other phone don`t have this problem for exemple my Defy and Iphone in elevator have 3g but mini pro have 2 line on 2g an if it was in call it disconecting , the phone was in service 3 times more than a month for test but nothing ....this is the phone .... after 4 months of using i sellit to buy HTC status and my battery last 1 day with facebook yahoo whatsapp a little browsing and sync so this is a smartphone not sony who tell my to stop data ...hello it is a smartphone it depending by internet connection i need that mail sync ...i need browsing ...i need chat why to trow with 190e for a smartphone if u can using ...?
