I am having a repeated issue I was hoping someone has seen or could help me with.
I'm on the default rom w/ the TnT Enhancement pack and overall I LOVE the device. One thing that is literally killing me is trying to get data to/from my device.
I have tried USB linking to my Win7 64bit system as well as copying data to/from with Astro and the microSD card and more times than not either during or after any file copy/move activity the device locks up, needs to be hard booted and then I'll get the 'scanning SD card' message in the notifications and the tablet locks up hard, and becomes unuseable until I reboot about 10xs and finally it starts to return to normal.
I've tried formatting EVERYTHING and re partitioning to 2048 & 0 w/ clockwork and doing a fresh NVflash and reupdating/TnT Enhancement, etc...with similar results, so I'm not sure at this point if it's my microSD the internal card, some sort of hardware or overall software issue.
I love this device, but I'm borderline frustrated enough to return it, only problem is ALL the other tabs are WAY too expensive for what you get! ($400 is reasonable $600+ is stupid - I can get a laptop for that much - which I already have, and the tablet isn't nearly as capable/more just convenient)...

I'm kind if unclear about your problem. Is it hanging only when you're copying stuff between /sdcard and /sdcard2?
I'm asking because you mentioned USB, but I didn't think you could xfer directly to/from /sdcard2 over USB.
If that is the case, have you tried a different microSD card?
Jim
I've tried USB xfer from computer to /sdcard as well as using multiple microsd cards to transfer data to the internal gtab memory, all seem to have the same results, when moveing external data to the gtab, it suddenly seems to cause some sort of file system corruption (as best I could guess). last round forced me to go as far as re-doing the entire device to bring it back to a stable state!
Since you mentioned returning it I would suggest exchange as this sounds like a problem with your device. Could have a bad card reader or the card is just not seating correctly
Hi,
A couple of comments:
- does the enhancement pack you have have that dataloop thing? I've seen some posts mentioning corruption w dataloop. Maybe try w/o the enhancements?
- for the scanning /sdcard2 thing, maybe try adding a file named .nomedia (period followed by nomedia) in /sdcard2. That's suppose to prevent the mediascanner from scanning the dir plus subdirs.
Jim
I'm about done with this thing. I've tried everything I can think of and I can't get away from the thing locking up (from full stock OTA gtab to the TnT custom ROMs).
1)The first Gtab I had the screen wasn't responsive to touch (had to hit it two or three times to get it to recognize you wanted to open an App. returned to SEARS
2)The second Gtab I got, when I powered it on for the first time it had a line across the entire screen in the LCD of bad pixels (dead pixels/whatever - something was wrong with the screen) - took it back AGAIN
3)This Gtab locks up whenever I use the microSD or USB transfering files to the thing. WILL BE RETURNED
I'm convinced that these things are the biggest pieces of sh!t on the planet. I've spent (and I'm not even stretching the truth) probably 40 to 60 hours trying to get this thing to work LIKE A NORMAL DEVICE - all I want is something to: browse the web, view videos and read epubs on - I'M NOT ASKING FOR MUCH, a simple device that can't accomplish THOSE SIMPLE TASKS - SUCKS.
I'm happy to think that the money viewsonic (or whomever) spend to build these three BAD devices is out whatever it cost them, given my trouble. TiD!
how to fix
Go to settings, applications, system applications, media storage and clear data. It worked for me.

Dude, I've been telling people on here for days. Go buy an ipad and leave us gtab fans alone. My benchmark is at 3000's while having half a dozen apps running and I'm happy with it. My screen is too sensitive to say the least.
This morning I woke up and my phone was running Entropy's 12/1 DD kernel with unnamed ROM. AT&T seemed to be having tower issues, and it that appeared to have caused my battery to drain a little quicker than normal. Happily, my Galaxy SII uses a standard micro-USB connector for power instead of some proprietary (and likely patented) connector. So, I plugged it into the cable I usually use to charge my wireless mouse. It just worked.
After I had a full charge on the battery, I was feeling like I wanted to play around with a different phone, so I rebooted into "recovery", did a backup, and flashed my latest compile of the cyanogen mod 7 code. This is truley a tinkerer's environment, with settings for nearly anything. I also really like the "rings" lock screen in cyanogenMod. It's also nice that I can play with the source code and change pretty much anything I desire. After setting this up and tinkering for a while, I decided that I needed to go back to my "daily driver" phone. I tend to get slightly worse battery performance when using cyanogenMod.
So, a quick reboot back into recovery, another backup, and then restored my previous kernel/ROM/settings. Everything is just the way I left it. The next time I decide I want to tinker more with cyanogenMod, it's a trivial matter to reboot, backup the current state of my phone, and restore cyanogenMod to the exact state it was in earlier.
Perhaps tomorrow I'll play with one of the concept ICS ports that were put in the wild a few weeks ago. Why not? It's fun to think different. Or, perhaps I'll put in a completely stock ROM and kernel... I can do that, too.
I know that whichever ROM and kernel I use, it'll be easy to back up and restore things. I know my email will work, I'll get my text messages, and my voice mail will function. Best of all, it'll do those things my way, not the way some self-proclaimed dictator decided for me.
There's been a huge uproar lately about some software by a company called "Carrier IQ" and phone companies essentially spying on their customers. Apparently, this involves all kinds of phones and wireless companies here in the United States. Some companies are saying they do it, some say they don't, and others say that the users can opt-out by turning off an option. None of them have mentioned if they use something other than "carrier iq" to spy on their users, however. They probably do. None of them have offered ANY proof whatsoever to back up any of their claims. I'm glad I'm able to check the logs on my phone directly, see what processes are running internal, and determine for my self what might be going on.
In the meantime, I've plugged my headphones into my phone and I'll sit back and enjoy my music. Perhaps I'll change around my playlists while listening to them on my phone. It's good to be able to do that without requiring a computer.
Thank you, Google.

Take care

Well, android does come with a form of 'java'.
Hi there folks,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my Vibrant phone. Or, rather, I've always had this problem with this phone:
There is an extreme lag to the interface, sometimes with it barely responding at all for 10 or so seconds.
This problem was present even on the stock ROM/kernel/image , straight from Samsung/T-Mobile, enough so that I've also tried CM9 and CM10 ROMS.
This lag seems to be present in almost every system of the phone, to a varying degree; for example, when I pretty the button to turn the screen on, it'll take 1-2 seconds for the LCD to turn on (OLED?), but the the backlight will remain off for another 1-3 seconds. And when I open the Call Logs screen, it takes 10-20 seconds for all the phone numbers to be converted into names from the Contacts list. There's plenty more instance where the UI and UX are really seriously affected by the lag, but those are two examples that jump out.
Since I don't know anyone else with this phone, I don't have a point of comparison, I might get some YouTube video of some of these latencies to try and better demonstrate what I'm describing here.
Seeing as this has happened with two very different ROMS and configurations loaded onto the phone, I'm not worried that I may have gotten a bum piece of hardware. Is there any sort of truly objective test that can be done? Something to verify the flash mem access speed, or verify that there are no faults in the RAM, or any such things?
Has anyone else experience this kind of a response from the UI? Is this just a fundamental limit of what this phone can do?
sorry to here that but when you got the phone is when you should have made the call back.... but in question have you ever used odin to go back to true stock firmware to see if maybe its a software issue and not the hardware of the phone try using this guide http://team-passion.com/index.php/wiki/general/15-how-to-use-odin-for-vibrant or search around for odin tutorials that you should try back and make sure you back up everything before you do anything save all your stuff to your PC if possible numbers everything back it up using titanium backup or Rom toolbox both work pretty good make a nandroid back up and save that to computer as well then start the trial and error process hope you can resolve this need help feel free to PM me good luck

How to make a true system image?
Thanks for the input guys; it makes sense that perhaps I should do a true, true nuclear solution reformat, reconstruction, etc.
Is there a way to make a true "image" of the phone as it is now? It's not really clear what Titanium Backup is doing, so I'm curious if there is a way to make a full-on 16GB (or more) duplicate of the phone's entire flash memory, so I could switch back to it, if needed? Something akin to doing a 'dd if=/dev/sda of=backup.dat' in linux.
I'm going to have to return my Nexus 7 16 GB tablet back soon because I've filed an RMA with it.
I was wondering what steps I can take to ensure a smooth transition to the new tablet. I've already performed a Titanium Backup and synced it to Google Drive. I will be able to pull down the info from Google Drive and start right back up with the new tablet, right?
Is there anything else I should be doing? I'm going to end up resetting it before I send it back. Should I also go ahead and unroot it (if that is even possible)?

So I have a XZU_GPe that I used unmodified for about 4 months. There was nothing interesting going on with it. Although I did have the device encrypted as a requirement to get my corporate mail on it. Then last month I decided to start tinkering with it. I unlocked the bootloader via the Sony website (sadly without backing up the TA partition) and flashed the CandyKat ROM from the forums. It took much better advantage of the hardware than the stock Android did and I was pretty happy with it save for a few minor bugs. Then after running that ROM for two weeks, I decided to add my corporate account back on and encrypt the phone. The phone became unusable after. It worked fine after being powered on, but several minutes after the screen locked, it would power off. The only way I was able to get it back on was to connect a UBS or Power cable and hold down the power button for a long time. Basically anytime I shoved it in my pocket it powered off.
I promptly flashed Cyanogen and ended up with a working phone again. Two days after, I tried adding the corporate account again. The phone seemed to work perfectly fine for a day, then started behaving strangely again. Now, the phone goes dark anytime it isn't plugged into power and locks. However, I can power it back on at anytime by holding down the powerbutton for a long time (no cable needed!) I could wipe the phone and start over with a fresh Cyanogen install, however, I'd really like to get my work email on the phone and can't figure out why it's behaving badly. At this point I am not even really sure where I should be looking.
Any help appreciated.

I wouldn't run a custom rom if I needed to use encryption. The stock rom would probably be serving you well.

If push comes to shove I'd rather skip the corporate email and actually be able to do things with my phone. I tried just rooting the stock ROM, but it proved as resilient as it was ugly. The "security" built into the newest Android versions kills me. I have an SD card that has moved through 4 phones so far and has all my photos and other important data on it. Being forced into saving everything "to the cloud" or losing it when my phone dies has sent me down this path.
Thank you for the response.
I really have no knowledge of encryption for email security, so am just taking a stab in the dark here. Would installing a remote desktop app that would access your home pc work? That is assuming you have one with your work account set up.
In my opinion, people who make custom roms test them for stability as much as possible, but them going as far as to test them while encrypted is not very likely.
IMO these Xperia phones are temperamental anyways, I'm on my third, and all of them have been buggy. I had to ship my Ultra back to Expansys yesterday because it wouldn't quit freezing/rebooting.

Easy to root, just follow the guide that is stickied.
I feel the best bet for working encryption is Stock or maybe CM, I know I've not tested it on the Carbon builds
IMO most stable aosp ROM I found for Xperia is the ported GPE 4.4.4 rom. Not a single bug for me and if I were you I'd start there.

The OP is using a GPe device, and installing ROMs intended for the Z Ultra not sold by Google will not work. Going back to stock for the OP is the same as us installing the port of the GPe Stock ROM.
