[Q] Wireless Tether - HTC Rezound

I came to the rezound from the incredible and had wifi tether on it too. I realize it works in infrastructure on the incredible and the rezound only works in ad hoc. But on the rezound it doesn't seem to work as well as my incredible did. And was just wondering if it was normal for this to be happening. Do any of you guys get on your laptop and it seems to hang up a lot when you try to load web pages? Sometimes it works fine for me and sometimes it just seems like it takes forever to load a web page. Or do i have some settings wrong on something?

The Rezound works perfectly fine in infrastructure mode. Mine is.
Running wifi tether v3.1-beta11 . And it's just as fast as my phone or better when tethered.

I just PM'd you on AC. But it's quick so...

No encryption ;(

Mine seems to have issues with google sites, even search. Can't access gmail at all on my laptop when tethered. Never had this problem with previous phones. Not sure what's up with that.

Thanks for the help. i did some snooping around and found out that apparently you must be running a custom rom for that to work. I was on stock rooted. Now on RezRom 1.2 and everything seems golden.

I am running stock rom and wireless tether is working fine for me...

yeah I need help with thiis as well, I can't seem to get any tether app to go infrastructure, I keep getting errors when trying a secured netsor and my ps3 can never find it when I try to connect. on my laptop is shows up as a group? Ido what its called, the icon is 3 monitors linked together. you can email me or something? cuz I've been searching and trying for 3 days. e mail is [email protected]. thanks in advance!

Wifi Tether works great in CleanROM 2.2 ICS

Dalvear...the GB kernel for this phone won't allow infrastructure do wifi tether. If you swap over to an ICS rom and kernel it will work. Simple as that.

You can have wireless tether on a custom GB ROM and kernel. I am on GB Ineffabilis and have had zero issues with wireless tether.

It still won't do infrastructure from what I've heard, only ad-hoc

Can you set up security and such without problems or do you need to leave the connection open?

See post #2. Personally I have no idea what ad hoc is or how to do it, I just turned on wireless tether and it just worked. It shows up on my laptop's available wireless networks and I connect to it.
EDIT: I just turned off wireless tether on my phone and then my laptop had a message that said "waiting for users to connect to your ad hoc network", so mine is ad hoc. Why is that a bad thing? I googled it but didn't get a grasp of it.

I have not been able to set up any security but you can see what's connected on the phone and allow or disallow them from what I can see. When I enable encryption and set a passphrase I can't seem to get to the point of entering it to connect and now I can't see the network showing up at all.

Ad-Hoc connections typically cannot act like a wireless access point (ie. multiple devices connecting to your phone effectively). Also, a lot of devices can't connect to ad-hoc networks. Laptops and computers are generally just fine with it.

On ineffibilis and I can tether both my laptop and my ipad at the same time...running wireless tether. Been doing this since that rom came out.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App

Ad-hoc is a device to device network, aka connect your laptop to a friends laptop without having an access point. There are limitations to it, although the number of devices isn't one of them. Mainly I believe its security and speed (I think ad-hoc only connects at 11Mbps).
And like stated above, some devices can't connect, i.e. a PS3.

I can't get mine to work either, is running an ICS ROM not helping?

Flyer not picking up hot spot

I have a Droid 1 and it is rooted. When I run Barnacle tether my Flyer does not show that there are any wifi signals in the area. I do not have trouble connecting to my house wifi but I would really like it if I can get my Flyer to tether to my phone.
I know barnacle is working properly because I am using it right now with my netbook.
After doing some more searching it seems like this a problem with all tablets, and the only fix is to root the tablet. So I guess I will be patiently waiting for root.
I can connect to my evo using the wifi tether app. I would suspect that its the barnacle app and not the flyer.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I can connect to my Desire Z WiFi hotspot running CM7.
Ad-Hoc
I think Barnacle creates an Ad-Hoc network and that may be why the Flyer doesn't connect. It works fine with my Inspire 4G which doesn't use that method.

I am in the same boat, droid 1 patiently waiting for a way to tether to the htc flyer
I connect my HTC Flyer to my phone with no problem.
Yeah the issue is that the wifi hotspot you created is adhoc. If you use the froyo built-in tethering, that should work.
I think the problem is the Droid 1 and how it creates a hotspot. Because I have used both barnacle and also wifi tether with the same results. My netbook can see it but not my tablet.
I am not sure why this is because I am also running CM7, but I guess it must be the way the Droid 1 is. And until the flyer gets rooted there is nothing I can do about it.

As in the one you have to pay for through verizon? I don't like tethering that much. lol. Id rather just wait then.
Cm7 has built in WiFi tethering. You don't need an app to do it. I suggest trying that under the WiFi settings. You don't have to pay for it.

I don't know. Tmobile doesn't charge. But I doubt you'd have to pay if it's a third party ROM like cyanogenmod.

I have a rooted d1 running Project Elite 4.2 flawlessly. I can connect anything including an iPod Touch to my droid via Wireless Tether app with the exception of my Flyer tab.
Why is the tablet different then everything else? It does not even see the d1.
Any suggestions other than changing ROMS? PE 4.2 has been the best on my phone.

Thats exactly why I started this thread. I agree PE 4.2 is amazing you should try some of the new GB roms they have really come a long way.
If we get the flyer rooted there are some apps and some .zip files out there that can fix this for us. We just need root access.
As someone already suggested, it sounds like the Flyer's wireless client doesn't recognize ad-hoc networking. Only infrastructure networking like hotspots, office and home WiFi.
Maybe there's and apps with better control of the wireless stack.

I have tried several of the gingerbread Roms with poor results. PE, liquid and cm7 all run great at first but become very buggy after a day or so. My d1 likes PE 4.2 the best.
Are there other tether apps that don't use ad-hoc?

Issue with connecting to Wi-Fi hotspot on Android Phone.

I have a T-Mobile G2 that has been rooted and it has a custom ROM loaded on it, I turn on the mobile wi-fi hot spot and have no problem connecting to it with my Prime but every time it connects it disconnects and I am unable to get online. I am running ICS on the tablet. It has no problem connecting to my wi-fi at home and work. It is unable to connect to my phone which is set as the mobile wi-fi hotspot has anyone else encountered this issue or can assist me with resolving this issue?
Ics broke the phone tethering. There are a couple threads in general that explain it better than i can and also have possible fixes

So you are using a g2x hotspot and prime is connecting to it correct?
I also have no issues, HTC Inspire 4G Prime is ICS Stock.
I think the problem is with your custom rom -- check your custom rom page to see if others are having this error. Try connecting a different device to your phone, if you have one, and you will probably get the same problem.
The only thing that ICS "broke" was wired tethering and adhoc networks/tethering, as far as I know ... wireless tethering (where your phone is a wi-fi AP) is working fine. I am using it without issue. As a matter of fact, I am typing this on my Prime from AndroidAP (wi-fi AP) which is coming from my phone.

It broke Ad Hoc tethering. Those with the tethering cooked into their ROM or as part of their phone built in are having less issues. Many of those of us that use a tethering app - not in our ROMS or part of our phones - got boned by ICS when it changed this ad hoc protocol.
+1 working with samsung epic 4g with random rom

I had no problem connecting my N900 and my IBM T42p to my G2 hotspot mode. It may be time for a new rom regardless.
Tried wi-fi hotspot on my G2 and it magically is working now.... I did nothing differently but hey it works right meow!

FoxFi is free right now

I installed it on my LTE Note and just shared my 4G connection with my (recently deactivated) iPhone. My phone isn't rooted and I'm a wifi hotspot!

been using foxfi since it came out and it is awesome, as far as I know it has always been free
I wonder if this way is easier for ATT to track or know if you have tethered somehow? I usually just root & freeze the ATT tethering manager which works fine and go through the stock tethering manager.
One of the main reasons id root currently is too tether my device for my PS vita etc on the go. But i wanna stay on the stock Rom for a bit so no reason to root if this works.

I agree. Other than having the ability to back up my saved games (Titanium) and removing bloatware, I am running out of reasons to root.
I do hope that this isn't some conspiracy by AT&T to find out who is tethering because THAT WOULD SUCK.
I'm careful with how much data I transfer using foxfi and so far I have not been warned by [email protected]
doesn't like htc phones for wifi
I have a htc inspire phone and a acer a500 tablet. I usa pdanet on the phone to allow me to tether to it from my laptops but doesn't work with the tablet. June Fabrics, pdanet's developer, has come out with a new version that reuires foxfi on the phone and the new pdanet on the tablet. When I click on the pdanet on the tabletnitntells me it work work with bluetooth and to connect using wifi. When I bring up foxfi on the phone and click on the wifi option it tells me the there is a "htc hotspot block" and to use bluetooth mode. Kind of catch 22. Oh well, two more mobile products that don't work!
Good tip

[Q] ICS with wireless tether for root users support

So as you all know ICS has been out for our phones for quite a while now. The roms themselves run great and seem to work seamlessly except for two major issues I have noticed thus far.....GPS and lack of wireless tether for root users support. For this thread I wish to talk about the 2nd one. Has anyone ran across an ICS build for our phones that support the wireless tether for root users app? The reason why I want to use that is because it supports the AD-HOC function which allows me to keep my current data plan and not add on an additional tethering plan. I know there are other wireless tether apps out there but not all of them support the AD-HOC function. It seems like all Cyanogen based builds will support this function but very few other ROMS/Builds will actually support this. Just curious if anyone out there has ran across this before and seen an ICS ROM that does support this. I cannot be the only one out there who uses this am I?
For anyone who is not sure of what I am talking about, google android wifi tether.
PS-After I purchased a bluetooth standalone GPS device my GPS works fine. I suggest other Vibrant owners out there do the same. I picked mine up on ebay for a little under 30 bucks. For that 30 bucks I get the peace of mind that I can go anywhere and not worry about getting lost or carrying around a whole GPS device and my phone. The thing sits tucked away under my stereo and my gps locks on fast and accurately.
IDK bro but I use barnicle wifi tethering...try that

Yea but does that work via AD-HOC, I would hate to get charged for tethering because I do not have the plan.

[Q] A couple of unusual issues.

I have successfully unlocked, rooted and s-offed my HTC One Max. However I'm noticing a couple of odd things.
One, nova launcher doesn't seem to stick as the default launcher without freezing the HTC sense app with TiBu. Any ideas as to why, or is this just a Sense thing?
Also, I used to create a WiFi hotspot using my laptop and a netsh hosted network, connecting to my old Galaxy Nexus without issue. I cannot get the One Max to connect with any combination of security and channels. I've tried connectify as well, without success. I'd love to see if anyone has an alternative.
Thanks.

Seems most of us are having the best results with the Wireless Tether Router app from the Play Store. It's costs about $2 There's another wifi tether thread that guides you through the settings. Haven't had it long enough to take it through any rigorous data connectivity testing, but it sets up fairly quickly with a great signal.

Thanks for the info, but my issue is that I get poor reception in our office, so I share my computers internet via its WiFi adapter with my phone, not the other way around. Still hoping to see ideas, as I'm thinking it may be a WiFi supplicant edit that's necessary.
