depends on your internet connection
Edit: To be more clear, if the speed your paying for is 4 down and 2 up, then its great.

Sorry guys I had a massive headache and it's just this forum is crazy can't we have a standard way to test wifi strength?

Yes, simple way is to do a speedtest on two devices ~ the Prime and another device.
First do the test real close to your router and measure the speeds of both devices.
Now walk away from the router to the furthest part of your house and do the tests again on both devices.
Finally compare the two devices and see just how much in percentages the Prime differs from the other device.
That way you get to measure the speed more accurately.

This is exactly the way to test... on my gs2 I get 21mb/s and the same on my TP 5 ft from the router. Now when I go to the living room I get 11mb/s on my gs2 and 4mb/s on the TP this is on Comcast blast 25mb dl speed so it varies on ur internet service but the further u get away from the router the signal deteriorates faster on the prime than on the gs2. And for test purposes my living room is approx. 25 ft from router and thru 2 walls.

I noticed the same thing, in my office 5ft from the router I was getting 17MB down and 19MB upload.
Outside by the pool, I was getting 5MB down, and 9mb upload. The signal was dropping from Excellent to Fair after going through a few walls.
Hope this helps!

my prime is exactly the same. get a few walls between the pad and the router and there goes the signal.. while the sgs2 keeps going strong

only device i could compare my tfp with is my computer with a wlan-n (150 Mbps) stick.
because of two medieval walls (up to 2-3 meters thick) i only get around 6mb/s down and 1mb/s up.
at the same spot my tfp sometimes got 5mb/s down (cannot remember up speed, had to send my prime back because of reboot issues) sometimes only 1mb/s.

Its not looking good for the 3D out there
EVO 3D has a 1,730 mAh battery, and with moderate use like calling, text messaging, emailing, browsing the web, and downloading a few apps (all on 3G, mind you), I was able to make it into the evening before the phone powered down. It's not the most impressive Android on the block in regards to battery life, but it should get you through the day. Kick on 3D or 4G though, and you're looking at a dramatic reduction in battery life.

Call quality is clearly not the focus of this device. The earpiece volume is loud, but I find that the wireless radio struggles in areas where the Samsung Nexus S 4G and HTC EVO 4G don't. Sprint is mediocre at best in my office, and the EVO 3D has trouble holding on. While standing in the same place, I regularly rotate between zero, one, and two bars of service.

Its all just a giant IPhone lovin Android hatin conspiracy. SCREW APPLE MAAAN.
Wow that screen looks nice. As for it showing a different number of bars then the other phones, meh. That doesn't mean much since they all use different ways of coming up with what a 'bar' means. Apple was getting slack for not having enough bars so they simply changed the algorithm to show more of them. lol
What would be nice is a side by side of the Evo 3D, an EVO 4G and a Nexus S all doing a speedtest with the same server.
I don't think people can call foul play anymore. Looks like the 3D is getting hit with problems from everyone. Oh well, I'm still getting this phone and have 30 days on what to do with it. If it sux, I'll just go back to the Nexus S cuz that phone was a great phone with incredible battery life.

I dont think people were calling foul play, just pointing out that a couple of reviews (gizmodo and engadget) were incredibly negative and obviously biased. We've hear from numerous sources that the call quality isnt great though this is the first I have heard of slow data speeds, perhaps they are using a radio from Samsung... Nonetheless, positive or negative, there are some incredibly biased reviews floating around.
We may be ignoring the signs, but I will still get this phone anyway!

Its not just bars though, xHausx. Call quality and signal reliability have been reported to be very bad. Thats a legit concern for those of us who need our phones to actually work as a phone.
I'm going to be waiting to see about this before I commit to the phone.

It didn't seem to slow sales of the iPhone... Seriously though, I agree if it doesn't work as a phone or for data (*cough* Samsung *cough*) than it certainly isn't worth owning.
My wife's Evo Shift was getting speed test results like that. It was only connecting to towers at 1X. I changed the CDMA mode to "automatic", and now it gets 2mbps in speed test. Makes me wonder if the 3d doesn't have the same issue.
I found the problem using a app called OpenSignal maps. When looking at the tower connections, it showed 1X on all of them.
Heres a couple threads about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014420
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/13612-stuck-on-cdma-1xrtt/page__st__20__p__114822#entry114822
If someone gets their hands on an Evo 3d with speed issues, they should check this asap.
I don't care what any review says. This phone spec-wise is beast! And once it gets rooted and the devs dig in...FO-GEDDA-BOUT-IT
Ive also seen two reviews that praised the call quality as amazing... so...
Another first impressions report.
Not saying that they're completely wrong, just saying that I find any "first impression" video -- good or bad -- to be questionable at best.
All we know from these is that call quality and signal reception is variable. Who'd of thought?
I guess these do show us that the 3VO isn't perfect, or even spectacular in its radio performance. But neither is any other phone on the market that I know of.

Technically, yes, because he was using the 3G radio. Also, technically, those speeds would not fall under the 3G "range". 200kbps sucks.
its a good thing you quoted that he gets the worse service in his office, yea so much for those speeds. Other reviewes have said the phone gets 6-8mb in good 4g areas, which I am in. I could care less if someone with no coverage got ****ty speeds.
80% of the review reported great data speeds. is this thread based on someones review who gets no coverage in his officre, really?
As for call quality, the good reviews have also said in good coverage areas the call quality will most likely be fine. I am sure if there is a wide issue they will adress it in an OTA. I mean it is probably using the same chip as original evo so probably the new radio for senes 3.0, hopefully they will sort it out. I haven't heard anyone say it is really bad, unless they are in really bad coverage area.

GPS issue Part II Solved

The answer was in front of our eyes the whole time ladies and gents and I can hardly believe ASUS let it slip past them before it was too late and they just shipped them out anyway instead of having a "real delay".
GPS signals simply cannot penetrate the all metal design of the Primes casing (also the reason for the weaker WiFi signal with your basic in home routers that your laptops and other electronics have a stronger signal strength then the prime). If you have a TomTom or a Garmin go ahead and put them in a metal box and tell me how well they work. If you look at the design of the I pad it has a plastic window and or other tablets with GPS ie Galaxy they have a plastic case this explains the eventual locks to satallites and then drops its because the signal is so weak in the first place.
I will be returning my Prime and wait for the new designs that ASUS is probably working on as I type it would have been nice if they could have let us know but it is what it is.

I thought the reference to the GPS upgrade referred to the GPS problem. Did I miss something? Here is the quote:
"According to a statement by the company, "no such product exists on its current roadmap" -- and keep in mind, that roadmap navigating comes after a GPS upgrade."
I am not a troll. I like my Prime, but I would like if it didn't have any problems with GPS and Wi-Fi. I am hoping that Asus can fix all the issues, and I am grateful for people like Gary Key on this forum trying to help us out.

It wasn't THAT funny but it was a cute reference. ASUS used the word "roadmap" and they took that as an opportunity to refer to ASUS' mishandling of the GPS situation.

To bad under ICS they busted ad hoc tether - something many phones using tether apps rely on - unless your phone is on a ROM that has a native cooked in tether or you have native tether on your phone many are SOL right now until we can get it fixed.

It is hard to disagree really!
Obviously the TF700T has better Wifi and GPS based on what happened with the original Prime Release in Taiwan. Just look at the new design. I also bet the upgraded Prime will not have the "Serial Number Unknown" problem since Asus will be sure to make sure that doesn't happen again, at least when they find how to fix it.
Also, I wonder if the new casing for the TF700t will have a bit more room, or not apply so much pressure to the screen/glass. The Light Bleeding on mine appeared to be from the glass pressing so hard against the screen. If I simply pushed on the edges of my prime, ONLY ON THE SIDE WITH LIGHT BLEED, it would get worse. The sides without light bleed did nothing when pressing on the edges of the screen.
Diecast17 must be new here.. let me explain it:

You obviously didn't use it.
The Transformer Prime works for me, I don't use my tablet as a GPS, simply because my car has a better navigation system, and I rarely use that. TFP seem to costly of an item to risk it as a car fixture to begin with, it's a tablet computer after all.

Returning Prime today

I received my Prime a week ago and I am going to return it today.
I have the latest firmware updates, including the GPS "fix" which changed my GPS capability from marginal to absolutely useless. And I have the bluetooth wifi issue, although it only occurs with one of my headsets. Two newer headsets do not cause the problem so it's not an issue. Neither is the GPS since I don't really need it on a tablet. And I really like the ICS UI on the Prime, and with ADW EX on top, I love it.
However, the overriding problem is general poor wifi reception. One of the things I do every day with a tablet (in addition to read email, browse, and play words with friends) is watch video at night in bed, using a tablet to not disturb my wife. My old crappy (albeit with CM7) Nook Color does this flawlessly and has full bars of wifi at this location, which is about 20 ft from the wifi router, but through a wall and a floor. The Prime shows one or two bars but stutters so much on streaming video (from netflix, youtube, other internet, or local server) that it is unusable.
I think that once it was discovered the Prime had so many issues, Asus' first priority should not have been trying to roll out half-tested firmware updates but to release the bootloader unlocker as quickly as possible. I have far more confidence in the devs at XDA to fine tune the software of a device to get the best possible performance of the hardware than I do with any manufacturer. And I should have followed my own rule on buying mobile devices, and that is to not consider buying one unless there are XDA roms available for it. But, it was quad core! And ICS! And hi-res! I got caught up in the excitement and ignored my own advice.
Now I don't know what to buy. Maybe wait for the 700 series, or just get an OG transformer once the price drops.
Cool story, bro.
I'm having an omelette this morning with some really spicy jalapeno cheese and some nice uncured ham. It should be really good. I think I'll enjoy it immensely.
This morning, I took a big dump, at first I thought that I would delay doing it till the evening so that I can a better version (after lunch) but I was having so many issues and my stomach was making noises so I decided to just go.
Moral of the story: No one gives a f**k whether you keep your Prime or return it. There are already countless threads like these, please stop posting this s**t.
Hmmm interesting
going to the gym now, then watching some tennis.

Goodbye from this forum then, we wont be seeing you around anymore. All these issues still haven't put me off cancelling my order.

Just stupid and no one cares!
My life is complete now that I know the info reported in this thread. Thanks for that!!!! We are glad you are gone....please do not return. You don't deserve to have such power in your hands. Do us a favor and don't get the TF700 either, you can't handle bleeding edge technology. As a matter of fact....just close your XDA account.....you have nothing to offer us.
Not to mention there is already a thread about this!!!! you should be banned from XDA!!!!! that's my VOTE!

I think the fact that he specified "sucker" implies pretty strongly that he did not disclose the defects.
Oh, and, about that iPad 2 the guy bought and light bleed:

Sorry, also forgot to mention the iPad 2 and dead pixels. No need to link all of the stories, here's the Google Search link: https://www.google.com/webhp?source...303290c933ce3a0&biw=1366&bih=643&ix=heb&ion=1
And Apple's official policy for dead pixels on the iPad 2 seems to be that there have to be three of them before the thing can get replaced (with some wiggle room on a first replacement): http://www.tuaw.com/2010/11/05/apple-dead-pixel-policy-leaked-one-for-iphone-three-for-ipad-g/

My bad. I should have looked for threads on this topic before posting. But from the responses it appears poor wifi performance on a wifi-only device is not much of an issue for some people.

For some folks WiFi seems to work fine. For others, the signal and speed degrades rapidly as you move away from the router. Much worse than other devices for me.

The responses to your post have nothing to do with the Prime's performance, and everything to do with your creating another thread harping on the same issues that already exist in many, many duplicate threads. Why should anyone feel the need to respond to you about issues that've already been beaten to death?

This is what Sprint LTE will look like on your phone

This guy managed to pick up a Sprint LTE tower in Athens GA on his nexus. Granted, he's the only one on the tower, and he's practically right on top of it, but damn.

I thought Sprint had their LTE towers locked down for the moment? Or is that just on the EVOLTE4GSTILLHTCNOT3DBUTGOODFORME?

Given it's going to light up by June, I'm sure Athens is lit for testing.
There are probably other areas as well in testing.

I thought we were going with E4GLE.
You will only see those numbers if you are the only person on your tower.
Where I live was a 4g test market for wimax so I am hoping it is for LTE as well... and now that it is confirmed the bootloader can be unlocked it is twice as hard to wait to get this beauty in my hand.

Well I'll be happy with 5mbps that's what I had on att and is really good as long as you get the same result everywhere that's my problems with sprint right now if I could get 1-2mbps I'll be happy

Lucky to all those who live near those juicy towers... PR hasn't even gotten 4G yet
i would drop comcast and use this phone as my modem.
thats insane.
Don't get your hopes up too much yet, this is their LTE in Texas...
It's still good but it's no 30 Mb/s
That's only cause he is probably the very few connected those are the max speed for 5hz channel. I expect it to be pretty much about the same as wimax speeds with better upload and maybe better latency. Oh and also with the same great battery drain.

Battery drain will not be there long as ur in a city with the sites active....just like Wimax if your connected you are typically fine. The drain comes from having to reconnect so often and search for signal...
Also the SoC will mediate decently the LTE as its built into the die so its not an extra chip sucking the battery like with Wimax...
