[Q] [HELP] A Little help with my ace, please? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

[SOLVED]
Hi,
I was trying to install cyanogenmod on my bothers galaxy ace,
when I flashed clockworkmod recovery on It,
and heading to the recovery,
it holds on the Samsung word,
and never makes another move,
but the system was working properly,
I downloaded something like a rom manager from the android market,
and i found "Reboot into recovery",
I touched it, the device rebooted,
and stopped on the Samsung word,
I took out the battery and put it in again 5000 times....
and it isn't working.
Any HELP ? ..... PLEASE?
this is how my brothers ace looked the whole last night...
.

I empathise with your frustration. Ppl just don't take the time to read. However, do you know exactly WHY RomManager does this to certain phones. I've read plenty of warnings to not d.load it (and so I never have and I actually suffer anxiety when it comes up in the Market ) but I've never seen a real explanation as to what happens to make it mutilate peoples phones.

Excellent. Thanks. I just checked on their Market page and it doesn't seem like they make that clear there. http://bit.ly/nd8EIj
But I do appreciate that they don't necessarily have a responsibility to people that don't know a great deal about the process.

But.. didn't you even bother reading a guide before flashing a Rom?

Galaxy Ace have separate boot and recovery partition. The possible problem:
1. ROM Manager write the recovery image to the boot partition -> recovery bootloop but we can fix it.
2. ROM Manager (updater_binary or flash_image binary exactly) write Galaxy Ace bootloader (bml7) -> brick and only Samsung can fix it (or just a board replacement)
You must always use boot and recovery image/kernel including updater_binary and flash_image binary from trusted source. I knew all about this after brick my Galaxy Ace 3 times! Two times because wrong flash_image binary and one because touch the efs partition. I have read CWM source line by line to fully understood how it works.
A simple method to brick Galaxy Ace:
Flash CyanogenMod firmware for Galaxy 5!

[Q] New to the Ace and need help

Hi!
I come from the x10 mini forums. Had my mini pro stolen a few days ago and just ordered the Galaxy Ace. I have a good amount of knowladge for android but not for samsung phones. can somebody please provide me threads that help to root and install CWM as well as custom rom installation and possibly network unlocking.
Thanks in advance
hi and welcome
probably ur device will came with gb preinstalled. so use this for rooting.
look at 1st post, flash the upd_1.zip file via stock samsung's recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
then maybe u wanna flash cwm recovery v4.0.0.9
flash the ClockWorkModAce.zip file via stock samsung's recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
then maybe u wanna upgrade cwm recovery to v5.0.2.6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
and for stock rom, we only had cfroot kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197
but for network unlock, i'd say it pretty much dangerous for ace. almost everyone who tried to do it themselve failed and hard bricked the phone while purchased online unlock code doesnt work at all.
Thanks, could you recheck those links, some lead to same place

Last time I find an interesting - kexec - it allows to boot another kernel form current running kernel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kexec . And have a small idea - what about making a small kernel that we will put into boot.img with kexec and small menu like recovery menu that allows as to select the kernel. After we have multiple kernel on Ace, making a full dual boot is only a next step. I know it hard to make, but now I think it's possible.

Why is this technically any better than mounting /data/app ??? Indeed the argument is that internal memory is faster for random read+writes than SD card partition, so moving the whole of /data/ across is not an improvement, but a slight performance drain?
