i restarted my phone after doing a sd card partion by the above CW and it rebooted fine... then i used the clockwork app in my main menu to reboot in recovery mode...( as i thought of flashing the new cyanogenmod 7.2).....
i did a factory reset from here wiped cache pqartition and cleared dalvik cache...
i rebooted to check if everything is okay(i did not flashed anything).... AND NOW MY ACE is in REBOOT LOOP ...
''i read all available forums... did multiple factory reset and cleared cache and dalvik cache in each case but was of no use.....
i also tried to use my earlier NANDROID BACKUP which i just created before reset (i renamed the folder to ''Gingerbred ddkq6 22dec'').....but it said ---

You renamed the backup , that's why it has a md5 mismatch .
Change the name back to the original one and you can restore .
CWM 5.0.2.6 is for CM7 , use CWM 4 instead .

You're screwed if you can't remember the original backup name .
But you can try installing CM7 again , but mount /system and /data .

i haven't flashed cyanogenmod till now... as i tried to explore what i have done and found one intresting thing...
after i partitione my sd card 512 mb by CW5 ... and did a factory reset the memory size of my 4 gb card still stucks at 3.1 gb....(after factory reset it should fall to original value).. i tried format on pc but it remained the same...
any link with the problem coz of this??? (i booted without sd and had no effect)...
also shall i mount /system and /data before installing the updates by CW5 ... (i respect you).. but i havent read this in any CW5 tutorial.9i dont mean disrespect here)...
shall i jump to a lower CW version ???? if so how??? and if not shall i flash the cyanogen 7.2 or better hand it to customer support????

why the hell you people do partitioning stuffs and backups if you dont know how to fix it and what are they meant.......
your pc as i can tell have windows install will not recognize ext3/4 partitions on sd card thats reason why its still 3.1gigs... to get that there is some tool
secondly you have no choice than flashing your firmware or doing some advance stuffs to make md5 match with the backup
my suggestion would be flash the firmware with odin and for your information you will loose all apps and all contacts/sms .... this would be good lesson to you before doing something wrong and knowing nothing of

Look, small advice, dont do things you dont know much about, right?
Right here, you just lost all your data because you tried to do things without doing a proper research.BTW,after you do a wipe, flash the rom, when you do a factory reset, your stock rom is gone,so your phone doesnt have anything to boot into...
Be carefule next time
This mod will move dalvik-cache from /data to /preload freeing up some space and utilizing the otherwise unused /preload partition when running a pure ICS ROM.
Based on the SGS2-CF-ROOT-XXLPH kernel.
The kernel is untouched but the init.rc script on initramdisk is modded to mount /preload with same prefs as /data normaly has.
It does not wipe or format anything, exept the dalvik-cache.
After installation, wiping dalvik-cache from CWM actually works just fine.
Flash it with CWM.
/Cheers
Can you explain better the benefits of using this? It's unclear for noobs like me.

I haven't looked at the mod yet, but if the dalvik cache is sym linked to the other partition, then it wouldn't have to rebuilt.

i've not looked at it neither, but i have used sym links before, and the files in dalvik were duplicated, one for the old dalvik-cache, plus one for the symlink
eg
[email protected]@[email protected] and [email protected]@[email protected]
PS pls correct me if i am wrong coz i tried it couple of mths b4
Thanks all for the interest.
OBSERVE! Only for XXLPH kernel.
Answers to your questions:
* Benefit: you move away 100-300Mb of data to /preload and can use more on /data to use your favorite apps.
* No, there is no duplication of files. And YES the dalvik is rebuilt, but only on the fist boot, not each time, unless you tamper with the new paths, but the script takes care of that, so dont worry.
* kernel mounts /preload with same prefs as /data, and also in RW mode.
* the script takes care of all your worries (/system/etc/init.d/S99dalvik2preload). It is written so you can remove any directory/link (/data/dalvik-cache or /preload/dalvik-cache) and your phone still boots up and rebuilds the dalvik on /preload/dalvik-cache. A symlink is created to /preload/dalvik-cache from /data/dalvik-cache and all works just as before.
Works aslo with CWM Recovery "Wipe dalvki cache" since CMW seems to mount all filesystems and respects lymlinks.
Tested and works.
No worries.
Flash it and let me know what you think.
Installed, seems to work just fine, many thanks!

No, not every time, just on the first execution.
I fixed the rest in my script.
Or did I missunderstand you mate?
thank you bodhisattva99 you are the best ...
is this the same with "Integrate sys Dalvik into ROM" option from Titanium Back-Up Pro?
So how long does first boot take? I'm stuck on boot logo no matter what. Once I got to the boot animation and it kept going for a good 5 minutes. Reflashing it didn't help.

hi, if i remember correctly, since the path in init.rc points to /system/framework, so the files there will be processed to dex files. i then symlinked it to /data/framework and i found files like [email protected]@[email protected] and [email protected]@[email protected]
i cant remember what else i have changed at that time but, perhaps i was not satisfied with the final result and hence stopped testing it.
anyway, i am happy to see ppl tries to find out these kind of tweaks/tricks again
good luck and carry on

No, it is not.
That option moves the dalvik cache files for /system applications into /system
Hi, great work! I have taken the liberty of rewriting your script from scratch to a new and what I believe to be a more efficient one. There is a requirement of having Busybox installed in /system/xbin. I haven't tested it myself since I do not own an SGS2, but AColwill has tested it for me and says it appears to boot faster.

Does this work on all ICS stock rooted and custom roms like XXLPQ ans LP7? Thanks

May work, version 1.5 uses the SGS2-CF-ROOT-XXLPH kernel. I'm not sure which kernel LPQ/LP7 use. Have not had time to check it out.
I will make a new one for LP7 this weekend if i can find the time.

Hi guys,
As the title said, Galaxy Player 5.0 Wifi got soft-bricked during the flash process. Now, it stucks at the loading screen with the samsung text only. I can still get to the Recevery and Downloading mode but up till now I have tried flash many stock ROM, factory reset without hope. I believe that it's the software conflicting problem or problem with the bootloader
Please help me with this, my friend ask me to flash it to Cyanogen Mod 9 and I bricked his player. That's really bad for both of us. Before any thingies, it run on Froyo and on the back cover, it said YP-G70CW/ Made in CHina
Please help me with this soon ( any suggestion is appreciated
Hello my friend!I will say again:
ALWAYS WHATEVER IS HAPPENING,BEFORE FLASHING A NEW ROM YOU MUST BACKUP THE CURRENT SYSTEM FROM CWM!!!
If you have this, you may go to back-up and restore in CWM,restore and vouala you have again your current rom.
If you have not made a system Back-Up (also Nandroid backup) you will have to download a new rom, send it to your device in downloading mode and then install this.
I can suggest you the ROM CM9 that I use because its just awesome.Just a little prob with the preloaded microSD card.
What device do you have?INTL or USA?
Actually, I'm having the .zip file of CM9 from this topic as well : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957
However, even though I can connect my phone to the computer, use ODIN to root it and flash the .zip file after factory reset, etc. , the situation is still the same :-< It stay stuck at the samsung logo like forever
I believe I'm using an Intl one because it has hot physical home button. However, the back cover read: YP-G70CW Made in China. Therefore, I don't know which ROM should I flash??
do you follow ALL the instructions from this thread?

yes, i meant CWM, mistyped it..
I did them all too. However, for the Dalivik cache, it does not show up text at all, just a little flash nothing changes. What seems to be wrong here is that every time I finish an action, it show up 4 line of errors like: can't mount to cache/..../recovery.log. Is that the problem??
Yes thats the problem. You may have locked the internal SD...Try formatting you external SD and then pass your zip again, this may fix the problem
If system can't mount it's files, there is no way it will load.
I took the external SD card out, formatted it and flashed the CM9 again. No luck
The four lines of error read like below, they keep appearing every time I do something:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

Those errors are common within using CWM for the Galaxy Player 5. If you rebooted the device, it will most likely go away. There is no need for concern.
Hello,
I just installed CM7.2 RC4 on S5830i, and Gapps. Whenever I try to download a new application or update an already installed application, I get the following message "[Application Name] could not be downloaded due to an error (492)".
I tried the following to try to solve the issue but in vain:
Clearing data and cache of market and Google Services Framework
Wiping cache and dalvik cache
Formatting SD card (anyway apps were set to be installed on internal storage)
Factory Reset
Factory Reset then Wipe /cache, /system and /data and then reinstalling the ROM and Gapps.
What can be done about it?
This is a kernel error where it fails to mount /cache properly. It is not the ROM issue.
One solution posted by @marcussmith2626 on the SGY forums is to make a Nandroid backup from CWM first, then do an advanced restore of the cache from there. It should work, and has worked for me.

I have encountered similar problem and I solved it by using an app called "Cache Download to SD (root)". This app enables cache on the SD Card so that you will never get the Error 492 ever again. Here is the link,

Hope I Helped

Try the app I specified earlier. It works on any phone that runs on Android 2.2 & up and as long as it is rooted. One of the cause for this is as @NightRaven49 mentioned, the failure of the kernel to mount /cache partition properly. Another cause which I personally encountered is that some roms set the default cache size to 25 MB. So any app download greater than this size will give you this error. In general, this is mostly related with cache partition. Hope I Helped

My phone is a TassVe (GT-S5570I) and this method also works with Totoro (GT-S5360).
I have an i717, not a 55830, but I tried this fix anyway. It didn't work for me. What resolved my issue, was flashing the stock recovery, and wiping/formatting the cache there. Unfortunately, installing the stock recovery also installed a bunch of at&t apps (yuck!)
Hello everyone! i really need help please? My old S3 (i9300 UK) is getting passed to my son, the ROM in it was old and i wanted a newer one in it so the phone is ROOTED/unlocked and i tried to install the Omega ROM but every time on boot the phone goes Very slow and tells me that " UIDS on the system are inconsistent you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable.’ I always click on ‘I’m feeling lucky button" i have seen on this forum that other people have had this issue and i have deleted the " Cache partition" but when i reboot the same thing comes back? and tells me also Google play services has stopped? i am not worried if its a stock or a custom ROM but can anyone tell me how to either solve this or do a FULL ROM install please?
Many thanks )))))
Wipe "/data" in recovery. Don't worry as it won't wipe your ROM. But it will wipe all your saved data on the phone (SD Card data will be saved)
