Hey Guys,
Just wanted to share this app i stumbled across.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devasque.rotationlocker#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLmRldmFzcXVlLnJvdGF0aW9ubG9ja2VyIl0.
It basicly forces all apps to run in Portrait/Landscape/Auto.
Even works on apps that don't support landscape mode!!! and vice versa...
Must have for our TouchPads!! or any other Tablet devices.
xda thread for it. Don't forget to thank (or donate to) the dev.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412752
Worked perfectly on my logitech revue, now I'm able to use go backup and make a backup of my current logitech revue and restore it on my new second one.
So this works even if the app isn't natively in Landscape mode?

Upon finding out that I can't upload my programs made in app inventor to the market (currently google restricts this), I decided to help some other AI developers out and allow them to post their apps for download on my website: www.xxthe3dmanxx.com
Curently I am only accepting apps that fall under these requirements.
1) The app must be useful to the android community (no fart or porn type apps)
2) The app must be free (currently I have no way to accept paid apps)
3) OpenSource is recommended but not required.
4) The app must have been made by you.
5) Only app inventor made apps will be accepted.
If you are interested send me a pm with a description of your app and your name for (application credit), if your app is a beta please list known issues with it. If I approve your app I will send you info on where you can send your app. Also if you would like, once your app gets approved you can also send me an icon for your app and I will replace the stock app inventor icon for you (currently there is no way to do this inside app inventor).
Please allow 2 days for a response from me.
Thats a great offer,
OK well I'm trying to make a simple app that lets people record voice messages, like " there is ice on the road here" and allow other users to be able to see such warnings before they get to the point in question. I thought it could be used with a compass to determin the direction of travel.
With out building a whole navigation system, do you thinkthis could be achieved ?

I like the idea. Sounds difficult but just about anything is possible. Its gonna require a nice database. Let me know how it goes.
a friend of mine had the idea of making an app and thought that id bring it to life, well the idea is that it lets u choose which keyboard u want to use in landscape mode and portrait mode, example being swype in portrait and stock keyboard in landscape... can this be done?

Possibly the app would have to recognize which way the phone is and auto switch the default keyboard for you.

Except that Andriod security stuff restricts that. You can't auto-change the keyboard, you can pop up the dialog to select one, but you can't change it without user intervention.
It makes sense, as keyboards can steal passwords and such, so you don't want to allow a trojan to install a keylogger AND enable it. It would be nice if they would let you pick keyboards to enable switching between though.
This could be bypassed, but it would require a full custom ROM built from source.

That makes perfect sense. Its always the simple sounding apps that become difficult lol.

Hey guys, I am about to follow the root instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487
But before I do it I want to know what features could/will be lost in doing this. Obviously the auto-update (which makes complete sense). But in general I like the interface for now. It has its drawbacks, but I like the built-in mail client and the browser is fine for the most part. In the future I might also want to try ICS on it, but for now I am happy to use the built-in interface.
I really just want to root so that I can side load apps so that I don't have to pay B&N for apps that are otherwise free on the Android Market. That and I have never been a fan of auto-updates. But I want to keep the mail client and I especially want to keep the ability to read their entire digital catalog for free while I am in a B&N store.
Hell I would like to take that a step further and get it to work outside the store if possible. But I would settle for just keeping the original feature. I tried it earlier today and I love that feature.
So I would like to know if I would lose any of those features when I root this device. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Patrick
When you Root you can still use the stock Nook "Home" launcher. You can install a second launcher and switch between the 2 on the fly so that you have "Nook Mode" and Tablet Mode".
2 warnings:
1) when I rooted and added Gapps, something broke the stock email client and I was not able to find a quick way to fix it.
2) I have not found a way to get Android Market or side loaded apps to show up int he stock Nook "library" so they can only be accessed via the "search" function or my using an Android Launcher with a normal app drawer.
I use the Nook Color App Manager to add sideloaded apps to the stock Nook home screen and/or library. It works great.
There is a detailed artile at liliputing....Do a Google search for: "How to add sideloaded apps to your NOOK Tablet home screen, app library" As a new member I can not post a direct link. Sorry.

Hey guys it looks like the read in store ability works just fine still. I got this device rooted last night. Now iwant to see if this ability can be retained somehow while upgrading to ICS. It would also rock to be able to access the in store readable items from any wiring connection.
Thanks for the help!

Can someone give me links to some cool games for my hp touchpad with cm9, like dead space, fruit ninja and other popular games, i would really appreciate it.
which one'sthe best?
It would be great if we can come up with the top 10 Widgets of the month,, first get the consensus as to which Widgets must be included and allow users to vote. And at the end of the month or so post the results. This would be a great idea.
Must have App and mods
ROM Toolbox is one of my favorites because of the easy customization. I use the free version that can be found here https://market.android.com/details?...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
With this app, you can change you theme, moboot, boot animation, dpi and overclock your CPU. I set mine to 1512 and its fast and snappy.
Great APP!
One more that at this point is a thread, but the OP is developing an APP. This link connects you to MindSplits thread for moboot and boot animation Modding. He has some awesome work and its easy to install. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464159
Cheers.

I definitely agree! I've had Rom Toolbox for over a year now and it's without a doubt the best $5 bucks I've spent on the Market. The built in App Manager alone is worth it because you can back up your apps AND data, so when you restore an app all of your settings for it will be restored also. Plus it lets you do a batch restore of apps and data so when you flash a new rom you can restore everything to the way you had it in just a couple of clicks. It also lets you do advanced functions like break market links and freeze apps. It's the best app to have if you have a rooted device in my opinion! I'm glad someone else appreciates it like I do! Also to the op it's against the rules to post links to warez, but if you're looking for some suggestions I could name a few. Modern Combat 3 is incredible on the Touchpad especially with a ps3 controller and the same goes with GTA III and Shadowgun. If you want use a ps3 controller with your emulators or games, get the app called Sixaxis Controller. It's another must have app in my opinion! You can use your ps3 controller on almost all of the emulators for Android, and you can set up touch profiles for games that have touch screen controls. On top of that you can use the ps3 controller to navigate the touchpad, for example I have L1 and R1 set as volume up and volume down and I have L2 and R2 set as next track and previous track. You can find them all on the Market and they definitely worth the coin and then some
Hey Guys
Thinking of upgrading to this tablet from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S due to the much higher performance when gaming.
Was just wondering if anyone has an ETA of Root access for this tablet? I use multiple root apps like Six Axis controller, folder mount, greenify and titanium backup.
Does the playstation 4 controller that you can connect to it work with all android games or does this only work when remotely playing playstation 4 games?
Last one.. Can every app be opened in 'small window mode' I have installed a root app on my tab s called MW Commander that enables me to use any app I want in a pop up window.
Any help would be most appreciated
Thanks
abillybob
There is root access, check one of the threads here in the Q&A sub-forum.
Controller should be usable for all games, but haven't tried since I don't game much.
Not every app can (by default) be opened as a smallapp. Only designated smallapps can. I don't know of the root app you're speaking of, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
The mw app is samsung touchwiz devices only. Might be a dev thats done a sony version somewhere on The playstore though

Thanks everybody for your help
The only thing I can find on root on here is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-tablet/help/enybody-root-t3154926 though it doesn't seem to be a simple/easy process and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing what has been suggested. I was hoping for a flushable .zip of some sort and a custom recovery. None of which seem to be out yet which is a shame Have any of you guys successfully rooted? How did it go?
That's a shame about the PS4 controller. I'm guessing though with root if you use the app six axis controller from the plaster you'd be able to hook up a Playstation 3 controller to play standard games all ok?
Thanks for that, as far as I can see I can't find an app that would do the same as MW Manager (I can't seem to add any app to work with small apps) which is a shame but could be overlooked if the other two would work ok.
I was hoping that someone can help me with a couple of Ready For questions:
Wanting to try out Ready For PC that is present in the newer Motorola phones, does anyone know if it is possible get the APK and try it out? This phone does wired Ready For just fine when used with an external display.
I also wonder if anyone has any app recommendations or knows of any apps that allow the use of widgets on the Ready For desktop when connected to an external display? I really like being able to dock my phone and use the phone simulator on the display while opening up another app or two to use while working, but I think using the standard desktop widgets would be killer. I have tried a few apps meant for DeX without much luck, the only one that has been useful is SecondScreen to change the density of my 3200x1800 14" touch display that I am using with the phone.
