Twrp or cwm - HTC Amaze 4G

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I have been using TWRP since rooting my Amaze, but have used CWM on previous devices. I do like the fact that xboarder got TWRP 2.0 (Touch) working and it's pretty sweet, but I'm wondering if I should maybe be using CWM if not just for the sake of being able to use ROM Manager... Any input would be great!

Cwr only because I an very familiar with it.

I prefer twrp, it's easier and quicker and the touch is awesome. But, I use an app called appextractor that it's amazing at reading your backups to restore data and apps, and it only works with cwm. If it wasn't for that app I'd use twrp.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App

I use TWRP now. I used to be a die hard fan of CWM until the app stopped working with the recovery. TWRP has much better compression which saves a lot of space, doesn't require md5 verification for restoring (which makes it a little faster), touch interface is very nice and you can even theme it!

I've been a cwm user as well but by some stroke of luck came across twrp before I found the correct cwm recovery. I was REALLY digging the psychedelic color theme on the non touch, but the touch is wayyyyy more convenient. Kinda drab, but awesome nonetheless.
Thanks for the input! BTW, what ROM have you tried energyRom yet?

energy rom has started to change my mind about sense!!! , my only beef with sense is the main dock (i prefer a 5 button dock), and also the inability to re-size widgets...I think all this is getting addressed in sense 3.5...atleast the dock I know for sure, and ICS naively supports widget resizing so hopefully even if sense widgets can't be re-sized the other widgets would be...

Have you tried an alternate launcher. Go launcher has a 5 button layout I believe.

I disliked sense too when I had mt4g because of how big the ROMs were (350 MB compared to CM's 98 MB) although CoreDroid was pretty sweet. But EnergyRom is brilliant with it's stability, battery life, and theme by NRG. Also Apaquette420 has a sweet theme for it that looks amazing.
Not to be a spokesperson here, but this ROM has me sold on Sense

I guess since I helped clutter, I better at least answer the question. I use cwm, but am now interested in TWRP. I used 4EXT on my mt4g, and twrp sounds similar. I may try it out tonight

Xboarders touch TWRP is pretty cool. It's nice not having to yae the hardware buttons to flash. No more scrolling with the volume and then fiddling with the power button to select.

Best Rom As of Today?

I've been on Viper since launch...
Haven't tried any of the others. Visuals are important to me as well as smoothness.

any rom would do. there all pretty simple at the moment, nobody has took their rom to the next level for this device.
Many devs are still ROMing for other phones and haven't journeyed to the LTE just yet.
only time will tell. And Ive flash just about all of the roms out now.

I will agree. My daily rom is MeanROM but I've tried them all and I think they're pretty much all the same. Only thing that's separating them are tweaks, they definitely all look the same. From what I hear the VenomRom will be the one that separates itself from the rest, when it gets released.

I had ARHD 6.6.7 previously. It was a stock experience with nothing new. Also my battery was terrible on it. Yesterday I flashed ViperS 1.0.1... And I must say that it's by far the best rom I have every seen and used. It's packed with so much goodies! So much customization options that you'll never get bored. And on top of that, it's also very fast. The venom hub and tweaks app is revolutionary.
So far, the battery is also doing great.

using the AOKP right now. dont really like any of the sense options there are right now. and i like the AOSP lockscreen too much. haha. waiting for that chameleon rom guy above was talking about. hopefully we can get a good CM9 Port going.

Dude you should try this rom. they've made this rom very light and now i usually have around 175 - 220mb FREE.
just 3 bugs so far.. which i have already reported on day one.
1- Facebook Calender Sync doesn't work.
2- Gallery and Music app fails to load and search files. ( most of the time ) its a pain though :x
3- No Predictive Text in the keyboard. ( you'll have to use the ****ty SwiftKey for that.)
I've flashed Mean rom... All I noticed was 2% drops in battery every few minutes.. And it looked like the same stock ics layout
What's so special about It
We need roms that have boot animations and tweaked batt life roms that tweak the ui something extra ordinary
Stock suits me for now until I see a tricked out rom one that physically just looks different to the eyes

Mine miltitasks ok but there is this issue of the browser reloading pages when you go back to it. Which can be a problem if you were writing something, or filling out a form, for example. In that case when you go back to the browser you have to start over. Not good.

CM10 just moments ago fixed video, so nothing major is broken anymore. I think the video is only standard def right now, but I bet HD video is coming within a few days. That was really the last thing needing major fixing honestly. I can't link you to CM10 unfortunately. Go to CM9 thread and look at page 149.

Well the release notes include the following statement: "Multitasking improvements to reduce background task killing," thus the question.
Good call. It is not fixed though, only slightly improved. Your browser pages will absolutely still reload, so forms partially completed will be gone.

Absolutely perfect in CM10, or any AOSP ROM (to my knowledge). That's the way it was designed to work - HTC are the ones who went and screwed it all up.

Best Evo View HC ROM?

I'm looking for a Honeycomb ROM with normal battery life (Jelly Bean drains 30% per day even without using), rooted, and if possible bloatware / de-sensed.
I'm looking through the threads but there's a lot of broken links and everything's just really old anyway.
Is there a ROM like this available? Not just on this site, but perhaps hosted elsewhere too?
Man this place is dead. The AOKP Roms have pretty good battery. But I love HTC sense so I just deal with the battery.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I normally don't believe in "best ROM" threads, as there is no such thing. The best ROM depends on your personal needs and expectations. But I also understand this forum is dead, and seeking some current opinion is somewhat justified.
I've been using CleanROM for a while now. Scrosler makes great ROMs. As the name implies, its just a cleaned up version of stock HC, with some performance enhancements, and not too many mods.
I was using Honeysense HC for a long time before that. But it was starting to lag really bad over time. Even a full wipe and re-flash didn't help matters. Not sure if it was the ROM per se, or something else. But the lag is what prompted me to move to CleanROM. Honeysense had some good battery life and features, and worth a try.
Tried LeeDroid as well. Think many people were on it, and it too has some nice mods and features. But the app drawer was way too crowded for me. Think the dev was going to put out a flashable mod for less crowded app drawer layouts, but it never happened.
There are other ROMs of course. And they may well be awesome. But I just never got around to trying them.
Hi,
I'm currently using cleanrom HC. Sense minus some of the stock apps and with a small amount of refinement.
I'm quite pleased with it. Very stable.

[Q] CM or Viper?

Hopefully this is the right section for a question like this...
I'm currently running stock ROM, s-off using Dirty Racun method. I'd like to switch up to a custom mod because I'm frustrated by the lack of customization on stock. I'd like to know which of the 2 ROMs is most like stock and basically, which you prefer and why. Not looking to start a war thread here so keep it civil, options more than welcome though. I'd like to make use of the following features so if one doesn't have them, please let me know:
Wake-on-volume
Overclock
Thanks in advance for your input

I personally like CM right now, though both are excellent ROMs in my opinion. I just prefer the overall "feel" of CM and I love a more stock experience...I find Sense a waste of resources that could better be placed elsewhere. though you can opt out of it with Viper. That being said, I would give them both a try and see which one suits you better! They are both amazing, it's really just a matter of preference...

What are best practices for switching back and forth between CM10 and Viper? NAND backups, but what about Titanium? Can that be used to preserve SMS messages? Or is it too unreliable to do titanium backups between the different types of ROMs? Thanks for your input.

you shouldn't have a problem with titanium between the 2 roms just make sure you fix app permissions
PACman, paranoid kicks ass
I have reached that point where I no longer care for the benchmarks and stuff. I don't use my phone for intense gaming or app usage anymore so as long as the ROM is smooth, can do some multitasking briskly and has no to little bugs, I am ok.
Currently, my favorite is CM10.1.2 because it can do gapless playback in Google Music and I am a sucker for it! I am a fan of PAC-rom too but I am not sure if it is stable for our phone.
Go for CM10.1.2 with a 3.0 kernel for the best of both worlds - stability and the latest Android (mdm series CM 10 is great).
Personally I prefer the CyanogenMod ROMs (more official to get deeper) because you can customize the hell out of them. They do have the overclocking you are looking for, and yes, in one of the recent updates, they put in wake-vol-buttons. I like it because the themes are just awesome and the support is excellent. Nightly updates and nightly fixes (for the most part). There are somethings that I would like CyanogenMod to fix such as the external SD card usb mass storage not mounting on PC. That is a major drag. That is the only thing that I can think of right now that I hate about CyanogenMod. Hope this review on it helps!

What is your setup?

So been thinking about trying a custom rom but not really sure since there isn't much to pick from so I'm looking to see what everyone else is doing and how they like what they are getting from there current setup?

shockingly I'm using TouchWiz. My only complaints with it are the inability to flick away desktop icons, no play store in the top right corner, and the folders are annoying. Why not just leave the stock folder function?
I use Apex Launcher overtop of TW which gives me the customization i want but still maintains all the Samsung functionality that is really pretty cool. After coming from AOSP Roms on my Gnex, its kind of a nice change of pace.
I rooted and removed some bloatware and verizon stuff I knew I didn't need.
Installed novalauncher and called it a day. I plan to stay with the stock kernel. I might be a little jaded coming from having to reformat my last few phones every few months once I started flashing roms.
I am completely stock, no root yet. Just testing her out to see if I am going to keep it first. Battery life and signal issues plagued my last two phones, so those are what I'm testing. So far so good.
Can someone explain what TouchWiz is? I don't see it anywhere on my S4. I'm coming from a Thunderbolt.

Rooted but still on stock ROM, using GoLauncher on top of TouchWiz, Swiftkey dark theme keyboard, haven't removed/frozen bloat yet (but will soon, just rooted yesterday). I'll be eventually loading a custom ROM but waiting out the alpha/beta builds.
Really enjoying the two finger swiping/gestures, though i don't use them much. Comes in handy on the notification bar for quick toggles, and Toucher is a pretty cool app especially when themed properly.
Not a fan of all the notification clutter, but thats just my OCD kicking in.
