Movies, you can get by ripping your own 3d movies and converting to h264. There are a few 3d movies with HTC Watch you can purchase directly to the phone. There are some 3d videos on Youtube you can watch.
Images, not that hard, just google image search 3d.

I can watch about 5 minutes of a video before I have to stop and deal with the headache.

It depends on how well your eyes adjust to it. I can watch an entire movie in 3D (I know, cause I've done it), and didn't have any problems. There's also problems with some images and videos that aren't adjusted properly, and they're hard to focus on. Those are the ones I have problems with.

Wow look at those misspellings! Guess I trust SwiftKey x too much. Bought it already. I'm already a bit dizzy just by finding the right spot when viewing 3d images.

Will the Evo 3D work in portrait and landscape?

The way I understand how those screens work, I don't see how it would be possible for the screen to have a 3D effect in portrait AND landscape. And if it doesn't, that could be a deal breaker. Like you'd want the interface 3D effects, but you'd also want to be able to watch 3D videos in landscape.
Anyone know? I can't find any info on it or any video or anything.
While I don't think anyone can provide official answers at this point in time, I would assume they would not make it so that you had to watch YouTube 3D in portrait mode, as everyone knows how ridiculous that is.
Also, see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSuD45mRl_o&feature=channel_video_title
It shows a video by HTC of the HTC EVO 3D, and it shows a movie being played in landscape, while the whole premise of the video is to showcase 3D abilities of the device, saying, specifically, before the portion of a movie clip in landscape, "3D movies in a stunning qHD display."
Thank god a new thread was started for this extremely specific question. I doubt it could have been asked in the 47 other EVO 3D threads.

Maybe anything that has the 3D effect will be forced to landscape (hypothesis)
If it's like any of the other glass-less 3D screens (LG Optimus 2X, Nintendo 3DS, 3D photo frames, etc...) it'll only work in 1 orientation. In order to work in 2 orientations, it'll need 2 parallax layers (instead of 1), or some other technology, and I don't think it's cost effective yet to do so.
If it will work horizontally what is stopping them from making it work vertically?

What I was wondering about is. Well, ok, the phone takes 3D still pictures and video. I take it that you can view these 3D stills on your phone and maybe a 3D TV?? What about the video? Again viewable on a 3DTV?? What about on your pc monitor? I guess printing hard copies is out huh? So, its kinda like a novelty and maybe gamer thing??? The only thing I would probably like is if the GUI itself is 3D. Thats what I'm looking at the most anyway.

As far as I understand it, these screens work like printed holograms. Your left and right eye are actually seeing different sets of pixels. So the screen is divided into two vertically-interlaced screens (which explains the poor viewing angle). If you turned such a screen on its side, the pixel rows would no longer be vertically interlaced but horizontally interlaced and your eyes would not be seeing the different screens and you would have no 3D effect.
From videos of the device it seems clear that it DOES work in both portrait and landscape, so I'm pretty interested in learning how they're pulling it off.

[Q] Stereoscopic side by side 3D MKV movies on Evo3D possible?

I'm seeing that all the dvd rips for 3D movies are called side by side stereoscopic. Pretty big files from what I'm seeing too (3-4 gigs). Are these the 3D movie files that are gonna be for sale? Or possibly another type?
I haven't heard of any 3d video content for sell other than Blockbusters 3d Video rental app of course. I have no idea what format it will read or make when you use 3d videos :/.
I'm not really surprised that the file size is so huge. If I'm not mistaken, to create the 3D effect, the makers of the 3D movies, when putting together a 3D movie, are just putting another copy of the movie, just slightly moved to the left or right. Which causes the 'in-depth' look of a 3D movie.

After reading many of the recent reviews, I have noticed that the Evo records video in SBS (side by side) 3D. So I have a pretty good hope that my collection of 3D mkvs can be converted and will be watchable in 3d.
So will RealD movies be able to be watched in 3D on the phone? I see that RealD is based on SBS, but it's meant to be seen with glasses. Also, does anyone know if the IMAX 3D videos would be playable?
I'm not even going to attempt to make an assumption about this, because I have no idea about whether it will work or not.
The stereoscopic RealD Format is a patented version of a side-by-side 3D formatting technology.

Real D is meant to be seen with glasses because of the screen you're viewing it on. There is a reason we only have glasses free 3d on small devices. So far for glasses free you have a limited viewing angle and range. For the time being you can't pull this off at the scale of a theater let alone an IMAX. Intel had showcased a glasses free 3d tv that was around 37" at a CES a few years back. While it worked the viewing angles were poor for a television http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/10/intel-shows-off-glasses-free-3d-demo-now-this-is-more-like-it/.
Anyway 3D isn't shot in too many different ways. The biggest issue is what format your TV has to output the 3D to match the glasses. In the PS3 you don't have to make sure your 3D is recorded a certain way, you just have to make sure you choose an output format on your PS3 that matches what your TV uses. It should be the same here on the Evo 3D, except the Evo has one screen so it knows how to display the images for that screen. The basic principle behind 3D is you're showing two different images at the same time, one for your right eye and one for your left to trick you into seeing depth.
Uhh, thanks?
My question wasn't about how RealD or IMAX 3D work... but rather if we would be able to view those types on our devices with glasses-less.
I'm not worried about viewing them on my TV, because I have a 3D TV already, so I'm just asking about the videos on our phones.
If not, then we will be EXTREMELY limited it what we can view in 3D (other than our own recordings), as far as movies go.
So, does anyone know if we can use either of those two formats on our phones, or is this something that we'll just have to wait for the phones so we can actually test it?

Seeing as the 3D content is fully supported by the hardware and display I don't see why a stereoscopic player can't be coded. That's to say that this device will not support these formats natively. The most common are .m2ts & .mkv, they do weigh in pretty hefty with a 1080p movie averaging about 10gb (Avatar is like 16) It seems to me that the standard 3D format for the phone would be SBS since it has the SBS camera. With that being the case we can naturally assume that it will process these videos much in the same way your current 3D tv does (merging two images)

This is a perfect example of how the 3D in question is achieved. STEREOSCOPE means dual vision, meaning a different image is sent to each eye. Meaning two images spaced appart like your own eyes. The director of "House of Wax" 1953 (Vincent Price) had trouble when shooting the film because he only had one good eye and could not see the effects properly.

I think we will have to wait. But I should have an answer for you by the end of the day on Friday, cuz I will have a 3d converted MKV all ready to go.
Outcome
It is simple, MKV is not supported on the Evo3D. You need to convert it to mp4 format to be played.
When the movie starts it is being seen as Side By Side (2 images). Then simply hit Menue button (the one that looks like 3 lines) and then select view in 3D and it works great.
Now the question is when converting what is the correct format to convert it to (resolution for 3D). Over the next few weeks I am going to try the settings and see what is best, so far I used the regular conversion from one to one, just the format and it plays fine.

But I am wondering if it will appear double when trying to view on a non-3d device...
I'm sure it'll look "2d" to a regular pc/phone. Gleaming from the shots that were uploaded on picasa, I'm assuming they just look like lower resolution pics to the 2d crowd.
Thats a good question. Will it have the red/blue double video like non glasses free 3d devices. I will have to send a 3d video from the g-slate at work to my phone to see what it looks like. Could have different settings I guess but I would think it records the video in 3d so there wouldnt be a way to format it once its recorded to 2d. Just my opinion but I will check that out tomorrow.

I'm wondering if there will be a way that I can convert my normal movies(2d) into a 3d format to watch on the phone. Anyone know of anything like this?
It is simple, If you have 3d capable you will see it 3d, if not you will see it 2d.
If you take a 3d picture and wanna share it on Facebook, it will turn
2D(I think until Facebook, make photos 3d capable on their website).
In YouTube if you upload 3d you will see it 3d. You can browse HTC YouTube site and there is The EVO 3d comercial in 2d and in 3d and you will see something like if you take the glases off in a 3d movie.
About sending 3d content I think that will depend if the phone is 3d capable or not, but if not if will convert the photo in 2d.

Read more first, then ask questions. C'mon guy. Your smarter than this.. I know it.
To clarify, I'm not talking about sharing via a service like YouTube.
I'm talking about video and photos recorded in 3d (from the cameras) and how the original file will be viewed on 2d devices. For example from my laptop if I copy the video to it.

I'd like to say, in theory, with a game that is rendered in three dimensions, you could program it to just use two different camera angles... but um, it'd have to be programmed into each one i'd guess... so yeah, no, prolly never gonna work.

Correct. Now the trolls can go away
In theory the display driver could be coded to display any opengl app in 3d, without changing apps. The driver has the complete 3d model, and two perspectives could be rendered. This would produce an accurate 3d projection for any ogl/el game.
The only thing that would appear odd is if the dev wasn't careful with the z plane on some objects ( 2d overlays, etc). It would appear fine in 2d, but 3d they may be way close or far out.
The 3d games aren't even POP OUT 3D so I don't know what the other guys are talking about. If you even play the included 3d game you can easily tell it just adds depth....I see why there would be a difference in other games, there will just be aded depth.
I thought NVIDIA's 3d stuff was a similar hack which is why they had varying degrees of compatibility among various games

I doubt spiderman was completely rewritten in 3d format. I would imagine it was just converted. I know instant 2d to 3d on a capable television doesnt look bad at all. Even some 2d to 3d clips are pretty good if done right, so I dont see what all the negative fuss is about. I was disappointed before launch, when I realized this phone didnt do 2d to 3d.
Oh yeah, games like call of duty that switches to 3d, doesnt have a completely seperate game on the disc, and it looks good.

even in the movie theaters 3D isn't like OMG **** IS COMING AT ME kind of deal.
it adds "depth" and somewhat "clarity"
i remember Terminator 3D , now that was 3D .
the EVO 3D has limitations , makes stuff minor 3D. requires a lot of resources for full 3D . nothing a phone can handle atm, not even computers can handle it. full popping out , i think that hand is gonna grab my face 3D .
would you sacrifice half your battery life permanently with no fixes for full 3D on all the time? how would your eyes feel? looking at it everyday all day? i'll super glue 3D glasses onto your head . everything will be 3D .
the 3D effect is simply an angle, and depth as people say. that is all. makes you see more than just a flat angle. you can see the sides of the flatness, making it 3D

But how can you remove already recorded videos in 3D to play in 2D? Maybe there is a but what am I missing. And before you bash me, I have done a search everywhere on this topic and I cannot find the answer.

Well you see, I recently took a trip to Mexico (various places) and I could not help taking 3D video of various natural places I went (ie water falls, huge rocks, canyons things of that nature) But now that I am home, I would like to convert that video back to 2D for playback on my non 3D tv to show the family. There is no feature on the phone to convert the 3D video to 2D like with the pictures. Right now my only option is to upload the video to Youtube and play it from there because youtube gives you the option of taking the 3D off. When I play the 3D video off my PS3 or from the EVO 3D streaming feature, you see both left and right video. Makes it hard to watch.

Thanks for help.

Oh sweet.. did you happen to actually upload any of the 3D versions to YouTube? Link if you did!
In terms of doing this from the phone. No, not possible. But there is PC based software that can so it. http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stvmkr/ try that, I saw it in my searches for video conversions. Obviously not convenient. :-\
Honestly, I don't see why this feature isn't just available. Its just removing one of the images from the video. Can't be that hard to do that right?!
Are We Not Phones?

I wonder if that PC software will work with the mac..... I did post a few videos when I had wifi in parts of mexico. Here is the link to one of my videos. HERE the videos from your EVO 3D.
Thanks for the tip!
Enjoy
Just play the 3d movie in galley, while its paused or playing, click the screen, click the 3d icon on the top right and it plays in 2d.

.....
oh my god.
no **** huh?. apparently if it's recorded from the actual phone, it's as easy as hitting the 3D icon in the upper right hand corner.
I kept doing it with stuff I converted and it would come back as a SBS video. I feel retarded now.
