hi all ( I DID ALOT OF RESEARCH )
i haven't get my ace yet but i am planning to root it as soon as i got it ...
the problem is i am not very sure how to root it..is it like this ?
say my phone is on stock 2.2
1.download '' CF-Root Adaption'' from forum
2.enter recovery (by pressing middle button and power button )/ ( is this recovery xrecovery? )( does this recovery comes with stock ?)
3.flash '' CF-Root Adaption''
4.when flash complete the phone will be rooted and installed with cwm (?)
5.flash the rom (?) ( i wanna try ics stock v2 =D )
6.done
-are my steps correct ?
-will it be the same if it's 2.3?
-what are the chances for me to brick my phone ?
-if so how can i format my phone ?
-does SGA need to unlock bootloader like sony ericsson phones?
a little worried since i don't want to kill my phone again =(
FORGOT! thanks in advance!!
Well, the first thing you should do after buying your ace is to upgrade it to android 2.3 via samsung kies. Rooting is very easy. You just need to flash CF-Root after installing Gingerbread. You wont brick your phone unless you flash some wrong stuff.

oh..so there's a recovery with stock SGA ?? that's...cool! so samsung also support the root concept ? since they even put a recovery in their phone
oh and my steps are corect yes?
"-are my steps correct ?" partially
Get ADB working first. It will be usefull, if your phone does not respond to any buttons. You can than still login and wipe the caches manually and reboot the system.
If you don't have 2.3 preinstalled and want to use CWM based 2.3.x custom roms, then it is mandatory to make an update (ODIN is recommended over Kies) to an official version for your region first.
"-what are the chances for me to brick my phone ?"
The same chance that a plane would crush into your house (via ODIN) or for you to get into a car accident (via Kies). ...
"-if so how can i format my phone ?"
ODIN flashing
CWM rom flashing or format
adb format
-does SGA need to unlock bootloader like sony ericsson phones?
No aka CWM does it all.
"a little worried since i don't want to kill my phone again"
That's all the fun about, ain't it?
so in a way my way is fine right? so i use ADB like a bridge from my com to my phone?

you mean just download and install the stock rom and every thing will return to normal ?
yap the stock rom you have to flash with odin contains the whole original software
after flashing its like ure unboxing the phone after buying it
it will whipe all your data even the root acces and the cwm ure back on stock recovery afterwards.
http://www.android-hilfe.de/custom-...401-x-ice-cream-sandwich-htc-sense-3-6-a.html
if you dont know how to use odin look here in the xda forum for a tutorial
after flashing go to recovery and whipe data/cash
I installed CWM for testing a ROM from XDA.
Now I can't connect my device to the PC and it looks like I can't get in flashmode.
PC Companion isn't recognizing my phone.
I tried several cables and charging works - it even prepares the internal storage (notification bar) but I don't see my Xperia P in Explorer and in PC Companion.
It's strange, that the issues came since I installed CWM.
If I uninstalled it, would I get into flashmode or see my device in Explorer? I don't really like the ROM I flashed, I always get force close in several apps.
Also, when I wanted to flash with CWM I made a "X" for backing up my data. Can I restore my system like it was before flash? (While flashing, there were some messages like "backing up" or sth)
And last question: When I flashed CWM I got a message about ROOT, I had to chosse if I want it or not. I choosed yes, but it said "this cannot be undone". I googled and noone posted this ROOT question before. Is this normal?
102 views and noone knows how to do that?
U cant unflash a CWM unless u go back to your stock firmware as CWM comes with different kernels. And the reason why PC and SEUS wont recognize your phone is because you have unlocked it and rooted it with custom kernel. I assume you are using GB coz i faced the internal storage problem with GB stock and the mtp process which is actually stupid of sony. Anywayz, U need to flash the stock firmware again to make those work again plus if you dont want the CWM too. But if you just want to keep your root but no CWM then u got to reflash your stock firmware, go to fastboot mode, flash a stock kernel (GB and ICS have different kernels which u can find over xda), then fastboot your stock kernel again. This procedure will let you keep your root but wont use custom kernels a.k.a CWM. If you are into ICS then u can use the custom kernels coz it wont do any damages or hiccups while u try to connect your phone to PC.
FOR SD CARD MOUNTING OVER GB : SD CARD MOUNTER FOR Xperia S,P,SOLA (GB ONLY)
DOOM KERNEL :DOOMKERNEL ONLY FOR STOCK GB
ADVANCE STOCK KERNEL : ADVANCE STOCK KERNELS FOR ICS

I personally hate PCC. You can always find the latest firmware within hours of its first release, so its pretty easy to get and flash it back using flashtool easily. By the way, do check the links i provided later on my previous comments. Might help you

Cf root will give u root and CWM recovery, so u're be able to install custom rom
1. Download any version of CWM from here
2. Get desired rom (kernel too if you want)
3. Place everything in Externel SDcard
4. Boot into stock recovery (Power+Home+Vol up)
5. Use stock recovery to flash CWM
6. Backup Current stock rom
7. Wipe the usual
8. Flash Custom rom (Or just kernel)
9. Reboot
10. ?? Profit ??
Now you got Custom rom or Kernel + Full stock rom backup (can always get stock rom from sammobile if you lose it)

Thank u for the response. But im a bit scared flash or wipe in temp touch recovery. Because a friend of mine got his s2 super bricked while trying to flash on stock 4.04 kernel. does this emcc bug affect 4.03 stock kernels as well? So can i just flash the latest Siyah Kernel using ODIN ??
Any time you root/flash a Rom theres a chance to brick your phone. What -Grift- said is the easiest and best way to flash a custom Rom in my opinion. Just make a Nandroid backup, delete data and cache, install the zip file from your SD card. I've flashed 4 Roms so far with this phone, all successfully. Currently I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 on my DINC 2. Good luck on whatever method you choose.

Go into download mode, connect your phone to your computer and use Odin to flash a custom kernel to your phone. That done, you have root and you're safe from the emmc superbug. (EDIT: although 4.0.3 doesnt have the bug, if thats what is bothering you) You can then flash a custom rom or whatever else you please. Use the TAR version of siyah v4.1.5 from www.gokhanmoral.com
Instructions on how to use Odin are available all over this site and on the web in general. Search and you'll get it.
If you don't wanna use Odin, your only other option is flashing temporary CWM. Search for rachmat3's method or use the one mentioned above. All three are equally safe provided you read up on the procedure adequately.
99.9% of the phones getting bricked is coz people jump headlong into the procedure without first bothering to educate themselves on how to go about it. They get what they deserve.

If noobs on xda have taught me one thing, its that smartphones just aren't for everyone.
Or just wipe only when you have flash the rom (custom recoveries are safe e.g siyah dorimanx)
Edit: AFAIK 4.0.3 are safe the bug is with leaked 4.0.4?

Thank you for the info. I know few things about rooting and custom roms. I have flashed so moany roms with my HTC. Im new to samsung and odin. Thats why i wanted to make sure before doing anything stupid.
Thank u all for the help. I successfuly flashed Siyah kernel to get root and CWM
Hi all
I have S2 with 2.3... I wanna flash new rom....before that what ar the things I should do ?
1. Root
2. Flash CWM recovery
3. Flash new rom
OR
1. flash CWM recovery bu Odin
2. Root
3. Flash new rom
which one is correct ?
thanks
First, find out which variant ( e.g. I9100G or I9100?) you have, files you will flash will differ according to that, and if i were you, i would flash the stock JB first just to be safe, and then just flash a stock kernel with custom recovery, then you can flash anything you want.
1. Search.
Install latest version of Kies.
Backup everything you want.
Connect phone via USB.
Check for latest version, few clicks, sit back & relax.
Really don't need to root to update.

Hi,
It's a noob question but don't worry since everyone used to be a noob
I would forget rooting or CWM or ODIN completley. Just download Samsung Kies from their website and it will update it for you to the latest version which happens to be 4.1.2 for S2. It's a lot less riskier than rooting and flashing. Good luck!
A lot of suggestions here that don't answer his/her questions..
@OP: there are guides everywhere. I assume you didn't read them as good as you should, otherwise you didn't have to ask them. Root your device if you really want to, and the things like CWM and flashing afterwards should become clear to you since they're all explained in these same guides. Good luck.
Hello
im trying to flash the recovery i have the galaxy s3 i9300 international actually says EU model wich means that works only with EU sim cards !! i have download the correct recovery file odin3v185 and i fallow all the steps ( installed drivers kies for windows 8.1 - usb debugging - power button + volume down for download mode and volume up button - blue on odin and its written added - and auto reboot is checked also apd select the apd and the tar file << CWM_6.0.4.7_Touch_GT-I9300 >> ) !! odin says recovery – pass green 0:05 !! but there is no recovery only the stock one in a strage way im going to the download mode again and there says 4 files downloaded … cause i tried 4 times….but no clockwordmode recovery !! i dont wanna root it just to have the recovery instead to back up my stock rom samsung's one and install the << cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-i9300 >> can you explain what should i do i need some help?? thank you very much !!
Imho stock kernel restores stock-recovery everytime. So you've to root. And if you do, choice TWRP-recovery. CWM is obsolete.
thank you for your replay !! so as you told me i understood that i have to root first... but i have read that instead to flash the TWRP or the CWM its not necessary to root my phone !!
So can you explain to me why it goes back to stock recovery and why its necessary to root??
and probably to give a step by step guide to fall to proceed to root cause i have read different articles and im confused now!!
thank you again!!
<<On some S3 models, there is a script that overwrites the recovery you flashed. If you get stock recovery, just simply flash recovery again using ODIN, as soon as you see “PASS!”, pull the battery before your phone reboots. Then do the buttons to get into CWM recovery and do the rest of the root instructions.
Put the battery back in and boot straight into CWM recovery, then when you reboot in CWM recovery, it will ask you to disable recovery script. Do that and you should be good to go.>>
Thank you again !! for me after that step works perfect !!

Don't understand this, but practically: by interrupting reboot after flash, you got custom-recovery without rooting?
Hi yes you can install CWM without root !!! i knew it before posting here and i couldnt understood why its not working!! i dont know why i never read that note probably cause it is in a root guide!! and not mentioned in most videos!! its not important to be rooted instead to install CWM !! this step that i past in my replay its coped from galaxys3root . com But cause i am a new member i couldn't paste the link here too !! its written there as a note in frequently asked questions under steps for rooting thas why its says after that proceed with root !! As it says some galaxy s3 models have this script and thats why this step with battery should be done !!
I have to say that cm-11-20150614-NIGHTLY-i9300 has some "lags" not something to be afraid but some freezes i thing !! and as a user with stock samsung's 4.3 android now the last hours i have nothing missed from that its complete!! i just thing to install cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-i9300 just to be more stable !!
