I just got my hands on the latest LG P940 (Prada 3.0) - I was wondering if anyone knows how to successfully root this phone, as I am completely and utterly new to the Android OS.
I haven't been able to find any information on this phone.
Please advice. Thank you!
I too am interested in any developments

Update:
I tried to root P940 using the SuperOneClick - and just as I thought that it could probably work... It hung up at Step #7 and just displayed "waiting for device"
As such, I can confirm that SuperOneClick will NOT root this particular device.
Any advice on how to root the P940 would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you
Use superoneclick 1.7 with rageagainstthecage.
Before start you should run LG pcsuit.
I don't know why the lower version works, but it really works.

Sounds good! Thanks - the only problem I am having now is finding a working reliable download for SuperOneClick 1.7
Any advice?
EDIT: I was actually able to find a working download link for SuperOneClick v1.7 - and was able to successfully root my LG P940!
THANK YOU so much for your help...
Hows the battery life? THinking about getting it.
Thx
Battery life is definitely shorter than Galaxy S II. Doesn't last me a day, maybe slightly more than half. Now trying to find a way to root so i can remove certain apps & hopefully increase it's lifespan.
Haven't used the s2. Have a lumia 800 and galaxy nexus. Any comparison with those? Thanks

What about the camera?

I use this phone daily for work. Just over a day, maybe a day and a half of moderate usage which is an improvement on the optimus 3d.
Phone is very smooth and benefits from the extra ram over the 3d (doubled to 1gb for the prada device).
Have to say i like it but can't imagine it having much of a dev scene due to limited numbers of the phone available
Edit the camera is decent and stacks up well to the likes of the S2 quite happily, 8mp with a good response/shutter time, auto and touch focus and a half decent flash.

I've tried googling for a valid download link for SOC1.7 but every link that I found was blocked by my NOD32.
Did I found invalid links? or is it normal for NOD32 to block it.

I think you might have found something that is not SOC1.7 - because I didn't really have a problem with the root whatsoever, when using rageagainstthecage.
For anyone interested in the battery life for LG P940, I get a full 24 hours at the minimum. I have attached the 'battery chart' if anyone cares to look. My phone use involves WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, Facebook, Google+, Facebook Messenger, Emails, Google Music (streaming). More so, my emails are set to auto-refresh every 1 hour. And all the push notifications, for everything, is always on. The only thing that I tend to leave off is the GPS and locations.
The camera itself is pretty decent - although I am not a huge fan of the native application that it comes with. As such, I have started using Camera360 Ultimate, to make the best use of it.
The phone's interface and interaction is fairly smooth - haven't had any issues (as of yet).
Refreshing topic, what about LG P940 and new ICS?
How to root LG P940 Prada with ICS software?
Here is guide to root ics prada firmware.

I am about to receive my new archos 101 later this week. I am reading the forums, and so far i have gathered i will need to put android 2.2 on it, and also the android market. what other tweaks should i do when i get it? Apps i need to know about? This will be the first android i have owned so i do not know where to begin.
If there is a thread that addresses this question, please point me in the right direction. my search didn't come up with much as to a list of things that are essential to getting the most out of the archos 101. thanks!

Why would you be disappointed?
I had my archos 101 since November 2010 and I was never disappointed with it.
Its a matter of how you use your device.

For my Archos 70, when I'm at home I have the screen brightness set to low. When I'm out in the sun I have to turn the brightness up all the way.

Agreed. I've been very happy with my 101. And I tried several popular alternatives before this. Like the Viewsonic, Nook color, Huewii/Ideos S7, and some knock off chinese clone. The 101 beats them all.
thanks :-D
any news on what i need to do once it is out of the box? On my touch pro 2 it took me forever to realize that the first thing to do was flash a custom rom and other tweaks like OC'ing it. any thing i should do to the archos 101?
well...plug it in and charge it...
If you want root and ability to OC, etc...I think you need to jump down to the UrkDroid threads. I'm very happy with stock and hoping for some way to root it. If you don't upgrade the stock I think z4root works though...as well as some additional codecs, but then you are on Eclair. Upgrade brings Froyo. Can't give you much advice beyond that...just load the market apk and start installing stuff.

Check out this thread over on forums archos fans .com . I found a lot of good tips here. (i dont have enough post yet to post an external link.) but under the top thread gen 8 devices there is a post titled newbie tips, and some general set up info.
Something that i have done to really help is upgrade to froyo, then go into the power management and set it to over drive. yes i kills the battery faster, but it seems more responsive. also a new launcher program helps too. i am currently using one called zeam.
I'd say get market, a launcher (adw, launcherpro, zeam) and if you are comfortable with linux, the urukdroid hack. i was a little disappointed with the laginess of my 70 at first, mostly the media scanning but the SDE and Uruk make me jealous of no tablet.
got it today, this thing is nice. i am sitll getting used to android though. I cant get it to access my windows shares though, i input my username/password correctly and it cannot connect...
also, how do i get the codecs on here? must i really pay for them?

Can't help ya with the shares, but you could try removing security from them for a bit and make sure you can connect. That's just basic troubleshooting.
With regards to codecs, probably not. It comes default with a lot of stuff and I can play almost every video/audio file I have. Only a few needed to be converted. Very few statistically speaking. I think the ones you buy are very specific. So try what you have first.
I've not had to download any codecs. The handfull of videos I have watched worked fine.
Zeam Launcher is a must for me. Fastest Launcher I have seen. Love it so much I put it on my Droid X and my wifes Droid2.
Market and Appbrain is a must as is Flash 10.1. Don't forget to do the "Market Fix" to get all the market apps to show up. Forget the stock keyboard as its a laggy POS. Swype does not work at all but Slideit works great. Well worth the price for the amount of hair you will rip from your head trying to get the stock keyboard to register your inputs.
thanks guys! i will look for the market fix soon as i have noticed a few apps are missing. including zeam.
Also, i cannot figure out how to tether this thing to my wm6.5 tilt 2.
i have always been able to tether windows machines, and i can even make a wireless network with it. however, the archos doesnt find my wireless router network, and when i connect it through usb or bluetooth it asks me for APN and username/password which i have no idea what they are.
any ideas?

I did get mine to tether to my touch pro 2. I had to use blue tooth and for sprint the apn is internet.com ( a quick google search should turn up other carriers) user id and password are usually blank.
I'd say autostarts with Archangel is a nice tweak stupid email app always loads at boot wasting precious milliseconds of my life
Hi All,
I have a few Atrix specific queries.
It might sound dumb but i really want to know.
1. Whats the actual difference between Atrix and Atrix 4G.
2. Tegra 2 - HP H.264 Video playback Issue , can it ever play HP H264 videos via some software update or 3rd party player. Link
3. Android 2.2 supports sharing mobile internet on a wifi network by setting the mobile as a wireless router or hotspot , does this feature work out of the box on atrix.
4. Is there a hardware required to be present on the phone for NFC or when motorola releases the Android 2.3 update , NFC will work on the atrix as 2.3 enables NFC on the phones.
I really liked this phone a lot but with so many unanswered questions cant make up my mind.
Will keep posting my queries here.
Thanks.

There is no difference between Atrix and Atrix 4G, Atrix is just the European version. Tethering out of the box will get you charged by Att, you want to root to avoid that. And the Atrix does not have a NFC chip.

If you jus start using the tethering than Att will add a tethering package to your bill. You want to root to get PDAnet which gives free tethering.

I think that what he means, is that if you go into the phone and enable/set up the tethering option, ATT will know this and switch you to the data plan with tethering.
This can be avoided by rooting the phone - which if you have access to a pc is extremely simple and can be done in basically a one-click process.

Any tethering app that doesn't let Att find out about your tethering.
I don't get what's the big deal with NFC. For one, the technology is hardly even used in the US currently... and even if it was, it'd still probably be few and far between. It's about as big of a perk to me as a gyroscope (Ha).... which isn't much of one at all.

Well.... if you have been following the iPhone world, think of rooting as jailbreaking. In short, it basically gives you access to and control of every folder on the phone's internal storage (or to a certain extent). Allows you to modify things such as the launcher used, themes, hopefully in time the bootloader, etc...

Rooting your phone will void the warranty if you leave it there, but the process is reversible and it is fairly easy to unroot and cover your tracks.
Rooting comes from Unix terms. Rooting gives you root access by making you the administrator/superuser.
The h.264 performance should be improved by a software update that is planned for the future. Heard that form a buddy with some information on such deals. It was known that the Atrix would release without the ability to do 1080p and such files but that a software release would unlock the native support from the chip.

1 - Yes , is this yes for readable or hazy , i saw a video review on youtube of the atrix where a full site was loaded and the text was not clearly visible until the site was fully zoomed.
2 - You sure that the phone itself has no random reboot issues.
3 - So there are still some apps that still dont support the qhd resol , do they refuse to load completely or show some odd formating or show some borders.
* Sorry for all this lame queries.

1) Perfectly legible to me.
2) Mine has yet to reboot by itself after 12 hours of usage.
3) So far, all of them load for me but the graphics may not be sized appropriately. Words With Friends is a good example.
After reading all the issues faced by so many users , i am wondering if everyone is facing these issues on there atrix or only some.
Is it after rooting or on the stock phone itself.
How can motorola release a phone with so many bugs was there testing team sleeping or what.
Users complaining about phone screen freezes after alarm snooze , this is ridiculous
Music player , thats the most basic functionalty.
Motorola should have delayed the release if they already knew about these issues.
I am still wondering if everyone is facing all these issues on there atrix or is it that some handsets are buggy ?
I am having almost none of the issues so far. Only one I noticed is the camera is not great and can take bluish photos if the led is the main light source.
Hello guys,
I have been reading this forum for quite a while and found a lot of useful information here.
So, first of all thank you to all the guys who put some hard work in developing those programs to make our lives and our smartphones better!
So here goes nothing. Just got this LG Optimus LTE phone some days ago.
And it is packed full with apps I don't need and that Docomo prevents us to remove them. Thanks to this the batteries goes bye bye even faster than expected.
So I would love to get root access to get full control.
like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376233&page=6
I read some threads, followed some methods -like 4 or 5 different ones- but nothing worked so far... Anyone who had success in that matter?
Really want to get an Optimus LTE (L-01D) but need to know I can root it first.
type this URL in your browser: i can't post links yet. logsoku.com/thread/anago.2ch.net/smartphone/1324176244/
these guys seemed to have tried everything. Scroll to #45, doesn't look like the Japanese version can be rooted.
they tried a bunch of things as well but to no avail.
I'm just curious, but the reason why I want to root it is so that I can get the nook app on it so I can read. I was able to use VPN to download apps on my HTC Desire HD, but when i got the Arrows Tab LTE, i wasn't able to use VPN to get the Nook app. is it possible with the Optimus?

I don't use this app, so that would be a tough question to answer.
Thing is, since docomo pretty much installed and configured the phone as they liked -with a crappy Home, slow as hell, that can be changed though- I am wondering if they would charge you extra for tethering.
They might have installed something to check on that. But this is just a random guess.
After a lot of research, I found this thread:
h t t p : / / houchi.net/products/l01-root
I tried and I successfully managed to root my phone following the instructions.
Heads up, it's all in Japanese BUT, if you just download the archive file and read the content of the files at the root of the folder with a text editor, you can just copy/paste the different instructions to make it work.
If it's too much trouble for some people, contact me and I will try to put the instructions somewhere else in english and with the Mac version of command line (really the same as for Linux).
Did not have time to have fun with it yet, but I removed some of the crap that the carrier bundled with the phone.
I will still have to look why it takes forever to start comparing to a Galaxy S for example (4 minutes is way too long...).
i tried and not successfully, only install Supper Use. You can explain for my by English, more more details
superuser wont work without root, try gingerbreak?
Hi,
I have just received this tablet and it sucks.
But I paid much money for it and it took a very long time for it to arrive, so I just want to give it a try.
It runs android 2.3.4, but it has no android market. I managed to install the Market APK, but to my surprise, there was no way to add a google account, so I can use the market. Anybody knows how to accomplish this?
Second, I want to root this sucker. I tried SuperOneClick 2.3.3, but when I put the device in debug mode and connect it to the pc, it does not search for drivers, even though I have the android SDK installed. Anybody???]
Plus, if anybody has this device too, please share your experiences and maybe one day we have a developer willing to make a ROM for it.
I also have just received this tablet, I am a bit disappointed too (for the display quality actually), but I am trying to understand what I can make out of it.
I installed some versions of Google Market (and also the GoogleServices) but its seems unable to connect with my account. Will search some more if I can find some way to have it working, this post was just to let you know that there is also somebody else in your situation.
As always, any suggestion/step forward shared is more than welcome.

Just unpack and copy the four items to the root of the sd card. Turn off the tablet. Hold volume up en power button to begin flashing.
Nice dude... you scared me a little when I realized that it has chinese as the default language but I managed to set english quite easily.
Thank you!!!
Thanks!!!
You save my device. My internal sd was corrupted and i've tried a lot of solutions without success. Flashing this rom repair it.
allright, more users with this particular device.
Question, is the wifi on your's slow? My wifi is terrible. I can only get about 1mb/s a second. My router is a Linksys E4200 and my internet is cable 120mb/s.
It is slow with this frimware, the old firmware and the new (official firmware), no matter what.
Please share your thoughts.
My top speed is 1284 kbps with a line with 30mb/s very slow

Hi everybody,
Happy to find some users of this tablet. I'm really satisfied by this stuff. The 3D effect is nice and the performances barely good. I've put on the back a door hinge to create a kickstand
I rooted my device thanks to two little things : PdaNet to get a generic driver, then DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
@hyellow : Thank you very much ! Where did you get this rom ? I'm curious to know the modifications provides by this rom, and i would to follow his evolution

Thanks.
This rom is great, finally my Google account and better performances in the system and 3D player. 'm Waiting for the next version
Does anyone see in the 3D mode strange rainbow-like color effects? Is it a low-quality panel or is it my device that has problems?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
today all cheap panels 3d glasses-free are low quality with rainbow colors and duplicates.
Best view at 50cm distance with low tilt in the y axis, when you stop to see the rainbow effect is the optimal distance-tilt, best with a solid color foreground in the movie.
I got one 2 weeks ago from BRANDO.
I don't think it's expensive, the 200 $ get exact change to euros, so it's 160 euros with delivery included.
The hardware is Ok, not the best but quite reasonable. And the glasses free display really works with the included video and photo players. The screen is HD-ready resololution and the video works quite well with every format I have tried.
On the bad side: the screen gets scratched easyly just by using it. It comes with very little documentation in chinese and just a few apps installed and some more on the internal SD, included a chinesse market. The construction looks a bit cheap and the plastic back makes sounds when you catsh it.
Still haven't tried to root it, with the Android Market installed surely will get more from it. Does anyone know if there is a chance we could upgrade it to Honeycomb or Icecream?

Does this ROM pack with the original 3D player? Thanks!

yes, it has the 3d player. But make a backup of the 3d content (movies and pictures). because, that is not included.
Does anyone know if there is an SDK to activate 3D mode?
LG and HTC have them for their phones. I assumed this device only needed the image to be vertically interlaced, but it appears something needs to switch on for the parallax barrier to activate.
thanks

Thanks. Does it also fixed the internal SD problem and improved Wi-Fi performance? Do you know how to make a backup of the existing ROM before upgrade? Could you share any screenshot?
Trying to install this rom,
It boots to the sd install screen and gives an error
E.Bad Boot Loader Arguments "(null)"
E.unkown volume for path [/udisk/factory_update_param.aml]
E.Can't mount /udisk/factory_update_param.aml]
anyone know what this is?
have you put the extracted files on to the internal or external sd card?
It might not make any difference, but i put it on the external sd card.
Be sure to extract the rar file and copy it to the sd card.
So, I decided to flash cm11 on my v500, and I love it so far. I still felt it lacked some LG features, so I went and looked in the G2 forums. This is what I found working so far, tested with official CM11 nightlies :
- LG keyboard : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508384
- XPosed knock-off feature (double tap on the status bar to turn the screen off thanks to Xposed framework) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563976
- LG camera : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540030
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522889
- LG quick memo : it seems to be an older version than the one we got on stock, but that one works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41264383&postcount=20
There are also a couple of mods in this very section :
- QRemote : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568914
- Qpair also works with a simple build.prop edit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571429
Some other things might be working, such as the LGEhome apps, but I didn't feel the need to try. Feel free to roam the LG G2 apps and themes section and to report what's working, I will edit the first post with them. With a bit of luck, we can end up with an index of LG apps for Aosp roms. You can start scanning through this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591077
Now if someone could find a way to get QuickMemo working, I would be totally happy. Edit : got it ! Cheers !
PS : of course, I claim no credit whatsoever for any of these mods. All I did was read, download and flash ; all credit goes to whoever it belongs.

Were you able to get qremote to work? I know it can install and open but I can't get the it working
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Found a quick memo app working good. Here it is : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41264383&postcount=20&nocache=1&z=6897549643181264
OP updated.
As for Qremote, I'm not home right now and I can't test it. You could always try this method, it could well work with our Gpad :

I can officially vouch for that NOT working. Tried it on my G Pad and the installers ran into errors everywhere with the LGQRemote.apk.
I even tried flashing it but it didn't show up in the apps so I assume it failed.

Well then, I guess I'll have to get Qremote off the OP... thanks for testing though.

The link the OP gave for Qremote works for some and not for others. It didn't work for me but I can't tell if there were no tv's that worked for mine or the it blaster itself wasn't working. But I know that is not a sure solution.
I wonder if the stock lg video player would work on cm? I really like the search feature while playing a movie.
I could not find a working for my phone...if anyone finds one PM me please
Sent from my LG-VS980 using xda app-developers app
is there any way to get the calendar app ? i like the 6x6 widget of lg calendar (or any app with big calendar.. i tried acalendar but when i click on spesefic day it opens today not the spesefic date..)
The feature that I miss most is Wireless Storage. Airdroid will not read my ext SD card
Thank you for this post !
Keyboard LG is missing for me in Mahdi rom
Any chance of getting Smart Screen to run? It's really the only feature I miss from my old stock days, and so far I haven't found a comparable app in the play store.
someone can upload a newer version of Quickmemo please? I really like it and there's nothing on the market that even comes close.
stock LG notebook

Hello, can anyone tell me where to find the stock LG G Pad 8.3 notebook app apk. I put Cyanogenmod 12 on my tablet (much smoother now). The stock tablet really had too much bloatware and useless apps. But I really did enjoy the notebook app. If someone could show me where to find it, many thanks in advance!

You must be on the V500 or V510 since there's no CM 12 for my VK810.4G - all variants of the G Pad 8.3, so I can't provide the needed file(s), but any stock LG or other OEM app as a rule will not work with a different build of Android, as they require LG's framework files and probably other things and although you might be able to put those files in CM 12, they still won't automatically just start working.
Usually someone who wants to run some app that's not made for the version of Android you're running (CM instead of LG) need to port the app which means fiddling with it, decompiling it, reverse engineering it - generally a huge amount of effort.
Not trying to dissuade you from trying but just wanted to impress upon you that trying to run stock LG apps on a non-stock LG ROM is an uphill battle not easily solved.
All that being said, I prefer Google Keep for notes since it works with any Android build, and any PC that can run Google Chrome. You might even be able to access Google Keep without having Chrome installed if necessary - not sure, plus it has some of the power of other Google Doc apps, being able to share, etc.
Thanks for the quick response. I'd guessed what you've just confirmed for me: that each version of Android, and even each stock Android version inside these different benchmark versions (if that's what they're called?), need their software tailor-made. I've found a few apk for LGNotebook, but you're right, they don't work on my modded Cyanogen 12 G Pad. However, I did find an LGNotebook.apk for an LG G3 (or perhaps G2) which was running Android 5, and that DOES work on my tablet. However, their are screen size and stability issues, which seem to make it unusable really. I guess I'll wait for LG to release their Lollipop update later this year, and fingers crossed I'll find the Notebook app somewhere and it should work on Cyanogen 12.
Thanks too for suggesting Google Keep. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a useful note app(!). I'd love to find something simple like the LGNotebook app (which isn't all that simple, but you can copy and take photos quickly) or a hierarchical or even mindmap notebook that's just simple and functional without bells and whistles and an awful UI. I'll check out Google Keep. Thanks again.
You're welcome, and good luck in your search. Hopefully Google Keep will keep you happy. I use it all the time at home and work on PCs and on my phone and tablet. I don't use Windows Sticky Notes anymore, much easier to stick with Keep since it syncs to the cloud without any workarounds, and you can pin Google app icons to the taskbar so they're just as accessible.
Every build of Android that's not pure AOSP is actually merely based on Android. So they're similar, and even similar enough to run things that are meant to run on all of them, but each OEM like LG, Samsung and even Cyanogenmod, puts their own custom spin on Android with some apps that require frameworks and libraries that are made just for them.
It's like Linux. Well, Android is a version of Linux. But Linux for PCs, there's many flavors. Ubuntu, Red Hat... all based on the same thing.
