[Q] Can I mount NFS folder? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

We have a filesystem at work which I use very often. On my Windows laptop I simply mount an NFS drive (map network disk). Can I mount an NFS folder in ICS? If not, is there any other way of accessing network disks?

I've used File Expert to connect to network drives. Works with windows and Mac networks just fine.

Like Windows you'll need NFS software installed to do that, and Android doesn't come with them any more than Windows XP did. So few people if anyone have tried an NFS mounter, people usually use CIFS/SMB - which is what Windows networks usually uses for file shares and maps, not NFS.
Samba File Sharing in the market for anserver to make your prime accessible to other systems.
Any app that can deal with SMB/CIFS shares, like most big name file managers or CifsManager (maps network drive[sic]).
SSHFS is also possible if you have a SSH server and the right software on the client wanting to mount. I have both on my tablet. SSHFS is like mappig a network drive but more secure.

Yes, you can mount a network drive to your device if it is rooted. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442928
Or you could use this tweaker to load the cifs and md4 modules (by checking their boxes in the app), then use the cifsmanager app to mount your drive.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473520

sigh, people need to realize CIFS(SMB) is NOT NFS ...
For the OP, it looks like the kernel has NFS_FS enabled, but you'll want/need nfs-utils built in order to mount (and you'll need root). (note: NFSv3 and NFSv4 are not enabled in the kernel, but a dev could probably build those modules easily enough).

Thank you for your comments. I have mixed up things in my original post. I use NFS from my Linux box, but I mount Samba share from my Windows laptop. I have found an app called AndSMB that allows my accessing Samba shares from the Prime. However, it doesn't mount a proper network folder, it only allows browsing network folders and downloading network files.
I believe CifsManager can mount a network directory, but it needs root access. Is it true that every software mounting a drive/directory would need a rooted system? I don't really want to root my Prime...

"Seeing" network locations

Is there any way to browse and/or transfer files via wifi from a windows 7 pc to the G Tab. I am using File Expert to root browse, and it does have a tab for network drives. How do I get them connected. I have several drives on several machines on my network that are visible to each other.

If you use a custom kernel, and you add the cifs kernel module, then cifsmanger (in the app store) can mount shares.
Wifi File Explorer:

Simple, gets the job done
You could also use Samba to make your G-tab a network share on your computer. That is what I do and when I need to access the g-tab, I just open my network on my Windows 7 computer and it is just like any other network share. You can't access the external sdcard (sdcard2). This will not allow you to access the root of your g-tab but I find that that is a good thing... can't delete system stuff that way!

+1
EStrongs File Explorer (Free on the Market).
From your GTAB you can connect to your Wi-Fi LAN to Browse directories, Copy, Move, Edit files, Folders etcc.. that are shared or visible on your network.
It even supports Bluetooth and FTP protocals.
Drawback.
Even though you can see network files from your PC via your GTAB you wont be able to see files and folders that are on your GTAB via your PC on the network.
There is a method for that capability but I've yet to tinker with it since the blog I found it on is from November 2010.

CIFS Manager with OSX SMB

Hi,
Does anyone have any idea how i can get CIFS working with my OSX SMB Server? I have probably tried every option and keep getting an invalid argument.
I set up my IP as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Downloads and the mount point as mnt/cifs/Downloads, put in my login and pass but the thing just won't connect. Im running OSX Lion and this is driving me crazy. Is there some secret setting that I'm overlooking? Some special **** that needs to be done to get the phone to see my Mac??
Im running KingCobra v1.3 (Rogers ShooterU stock kernel w/ CIFS support).
Im hoping someone with some more experience can help me out.
Also want to point out that ES File Explorer can connect to the SMB Server and stream from it just fine. Only issue is that i would like to use CIFS to mount this drive so i can play my 3D Movies with the stock player as if they were on my phone.
Thanks.

[HOWTO] Access internal filesystem via ftp or mount to Windows?

Hi
Is that possible to mount root filesystem to Windows or access it via ftp protocol? (using whichever cable, WiFi or BlueTooth)
This had helped me too much. I'm having additional fonts and ringtones so I might easily update the phone content with my PC.
Try airdroid.

Does it support root access?
I have tried this long ago and I think it only supports access via web interface.
Yeah I found it in description
"Enjoy below features after installation from the comfort of your favorite web browser on Windows/Mac/Linux computer or other devices:"
I need it as ftp or mounted filesystem (eg. as network drove)
ur right,it it only supports access via web interface ...personally i use Samba Filesharing for Android ... this is by far the best way to access phone storage as i can mount sdcard as network drive....and it's free.have a look at it.

[Q] Smb mount & system permissions

Hey out there,
I need some advise regarding mounting a local samba share folder on a tab/phone.
I manage to mount a share from my server to the /mnt/cifs (or other folder in cifs) of the android device but can't manage to get it seen by the app i intend to. I used cifsmanager to easily mount the share.
I also managed to mount via the terminal the share folder but it can't be seen by ES Explorer (or other app) except when mounted in folders owned by "root".
My aim would be to have any app (like music player) to see the content of the mounted share and use its files. And in the long run to have the mounting done automatically done when at home or when away sync some folder via sftp and access all using the same protocol.
After searching for days now I don't manage to find any answer about this problem. It doesn't seem to be possible (and I find it logical) to mount in /storage or other folders owned by the "system" user.
Can someone helps me to understand the mounts and permissions on Android and more specifically in Cyanogenmod or at least redirect me to the right location?
Thanks guys
My device: ASUS TF300T
ROM: Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly

[Q] App that would allow me to mount windows network drive as local folder in Android

I am trying to use my SNES roms in windows network drive in supergnes app. I do not see a way in supergnes to access network drives. So, I want to mount windows network drive as interval folder to android. Please let me know if you know of any app that can do this for me.
Thanks in advance.
