[Q] A Question For Those Who Did OTA Update - HTC Amaze 4G

For those who did the radio update, have you noticed Any difference in performance, battery time, or any noticeable improvement?
I have not updated yet, have no issues with the 1.07.550 radio just wanted to get some feedback.
Thanks.

I believe the ota was just to add wifi falling and improve wifi. It didn't have any performance nor battery inhancements.

The update just added the ability to use WiFi calling like the Sensation has, and maybe a few minor bug fixes. It wasn't a big update. I don't really notice anything different except I now have WiFi calling.

Thanks... Guess I will keep what I got, WiFi etc without the OTA..... I'm good, just seems there was nothing really different from what I have been reading.

You could root and apply a custom ROM.
Sent by accident from my Amaze using Tapatalk

actually the rom, kernel, radio, and baseband were updated too, the first two you can get by flashing a custom rom with the same base, the other two can only be achieved with the ota
i relocked my phone and flashed the latest tmobile ruu for the sole purpose of getting the new radio and i've noticed slightly better reception at home, by like a bar or two
another reason i flashed the ruu was that i had a few random reboots, now i havent had one after two weeks, restored from the backup i made before the ruu and flashed the same kernel, so it's def not the rom/kernel

I have noticed a little better reception in some places / rooms that I typically didn't receive much, if any, service before. Or it could just be a placebo and its all in my head.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G

Well, I get really good reception (68dBm-72dBm, even before the update) so, the only difference I saw was the WiFi calling. I didn't recall the baseband before the update, so I couldn't comment on it.

Best radio for new ICS leak

Not even sure if we have any choices here, but the new ICS leak has a weaker radio imao. I don't get as good of a connection in some places as before. Is there list of radios yet? Google no show here...

I noticed the same issues....strong on wifi at work but weak and slow at home and my mobile network suuucks...but i am happy to be ics'd finally....
I think the updated radio is improved. I was doing internet speed test against the OneS and it was just as fast if not faster than it. But WiFi (after testing for a day) is really shoddy. It's slow do upload anything data related after rebooting my router and modem. I get faster speeds with 4G on 2bars..lol

sub'd. I'd like to see what everyone else has to say about the radio. Like I said in the other thread, I get terrible reception at work and I really don't want to make it worse.

my wifi is tons stonger
The radio in this ICS ROM leak is definitely worse. I sit in the same place at work everyday, and where I usually use to get a consistent 4 bars, I get 0 - 2, and sometimes 4. It just fluctuates wayyyyyy too much. Data speeds may be a little faster, but if I have no signal, data doesn't do much good. Pings are much higher too.
Are there other options here. I'm not sure I can bare. My signal at home is not far inferior too, and I always had 3 - 4 bars, as I have the Cel-fi booster.

My wifi doesn't even work at all. Bummer.
I got a text today from T-Mobile saying that they have free signal boosters. Basically if you call them and say you have bad signal at home, they'll send you a signal booster free of charge. The catch? You need to live in a single family home, you need to have bad signal at home, and it'll reset your contract to 2 years from the day you request the signal booster.
(I just called and ordered mine earlier today)

I can definitely second this. With the ICS radio, my signal is about half what it used to be in the office. I also have issues where I have signal and a data connection, but the phone will still not make/receive calls or txts until I recycle the radio or restart the phone. I suspect we'll see another firmware out before the official release. My guess is that this is the hold up for a final release since everything else seems pretty smooth - even wifi calling is working great at home.

normally, a radio version from a prior build will work on a newer build, but not in reverse. once you updated to ics, you can not use a gb radio afaik
example
on gb firmware, can use ics rom with gb radio
on ics firmware, have to use ics radio on gb/ics rom
needless to say, were stuck with the ics radio until they update it
Mines works great, although i flashed a radio from Android HD not sure if that worked well after super wipe.

That's the thing, I have had the booster for almost a year maybe, and it works pretty well, but since switching to this ICS leaked ROM, my signal is terrible, even with the booster.
I have S-On, HTC Dev Bootloader Unlock, T_Mobile ICS RUU leak. My Data improved and more consistent. I use to get anywhere between 2MB-4MB to now 8+MB. WiFi worked like usual. I haven't notice any signal loss(Knock on wood).
I was S-On before with HTC Dev Unlocked Bootloader. Then just re-locked it, flashed T-Mo ICS leak, flashed 4Ext Recovery, Su, then Busybox. All is well. Initial setup went through WiFi. So, I don't know, maybe just got lucky.

So just what did Sense 4.1 solve???

Been running the lastest update for a few days now and maybe its me but this last update didn't fix anything. Yes it gave us the option to get rid of 3 dot menu but that is simply a cosmetic thing. My phones seems to run exactly the same as before update, programs still reload when I try to "multitask" back to them, WiFi still loses connection for no apparent reasons and I'm still getting 3G dropouts. Just trying to see if anyone actually saw any improvements.

Didnt it also free up some memory and display it differently? Since Im a flashoholic and change roms like women (I wish) I have noticed smoother performance across the boards. When I was on the old base Id get occasional stutters but with this new base every ROM including stock its way smoother than the older base and mine sleeps better than before.
You won't ever fully get rid of the multitasking issues until you get rid of Sense. I have been running CM10 for about 2 weeks now and couldn't be happier. No more Sense, the phone is like a completely different creature. It runs the way it's supposed to now.

WiFi issue I believe may have something to do with what chip is being used, because I had no issues with the EVO 4G WiMax, but have had issues with my old iPhone 3gs and EVO LTE. Connected with IP Address, but no transmitting data. Have to flip WiFi on and off to reset.
Using Airlink 101 AR670W with custom Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std
On the 3G dropouts, I noticed it drop out about every 30 minutes (not moving, connected to IRC channel)
It fixed hotmail sync, that is the biggest fix I have noticed.

Did you install the new firmware? The radio was a major fix. Also, Sense 4.1 is about 80mb smaller than 4.0. Freeing up alot of memory. I experience no lag at all on the new base. Not that I hold much stock in quadrant scores but on the old base my scores were around 5000 but the new base I have scores around 6000. My phone flies now with no lag and no overclocking with awesome battery life.

On the original firmware I was sure there had to be some kind of memory leak, the phone just kept running low. Instead of trying to figure out if there was, I unlocked and jumped ship so I never confirmed. Really, I would not be surprised if it was something to be patched

Official International Firmware vs AT&T Firmware Thread

Now before I post my findings, note I'm comparing firmware and not specifically any ROM that is on either forum. After spending some time using both 1.29.401.13 and 1.26.502.10 I have noticed differences between the two. I know which are better threads are frowned upon, but I feel that having a thread like this would be helpful since we're in the rare situation where the International and US phones can use either firmware due to having the same hardware. All other thoughts are welcomed, but as always you're mileage may vary.
AT&T Base
- Touch sensitivity not that strong
- Data speeds are often double what I got in the same location as I had with an International base. One of my tests I got just over 10mbps down on HSPA+.
- Boomsound slightly louder with music player.
International Base
- Performance is slightly snappier
- Data Speeds not as fast
-Battery life slightly better.
-Camera quality is also better.
-Touch sensitivity improved
-Boomsound is slightly quieter but seems to be more refined.
All in all, I'm sticking with the International for the moment as it's positives to me out weigh it's negatives. Notice how I haven't posted benchmarks, because I believe in only testing real world usage. But, if anyone wants to do so you're more than welcomed.
Once 1.29 comes to the AT&T model, hopefully the differences between the two are pretty much nonexistent (with LTE on the AT&T model as a plus).
I also noticed the quieter boom sound, I'm on TrickDroid right now and thought something was wrong with my speakers, I like the att boom sound more.

Do either firmware allow you to change network bands?

IN NYC I noticed no difference between data speeds on the AT&T rom compared to the international rom (I'm running renovate)
I still haven't seen a definitive answer on this, I've heard people saying two things. If I have the AT&T branded 32GB, unlocked and rooted, etc, am I able to install the International stock ROM? Or any ROM from the International version for that matter. I'd like to try the international ROM, but I don't want a brick.
Not untill we have s-off. If the rom in the "international" section says its compatible it is. Once we have s-off we can flash the ruu for international i believe

Just to clarify....RUU and ROM are two separate things. Yes, you can flash an international ROM on your bootloader-unlocked ATT One. Flashing the RUU or actual Firmware (radios, etc.) is not recommended until we get S-Off.

So what exactly is necessary to get the 1.29 update with touch-sensitivity improvement released to non-carrier phones?
Did this update fixed the " Beats Audio" snap crackle and popping sounds while watching YouTube videos? This is the only flaw my phone has and I have 3 days left before my 14 days are up. I'm trying to decide whether to keep my phone or exchange it.
My phone is absolutely flawless and I don't get the popping sound with Beats Audio off, so I'm leaning towards keeping it.

Beats Audio is a gimmick, trash, marketing... It's boosting things pretty high causing you to hear the hissing, popping and such. I would suggest turning it off and installing PureXAudio, sounds much cleaner. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211163
Seems network performance does degrade after a bit of use... very odd.
Can we flash international kernels? I'm thinking about trying out the one again but only if I can flash the kernel that turns the HTC to the menu button....

ICS WIFI

I'm kind of new with the TB. The used phone had the OTA on it when I bought it.
The WIFI on this phone really sucks. If I look at my router log, it constantly disconnects and reconnects.
I don't see anyone complaining about it. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it so far. I think when he sold it to me he did a factory reset so I don't have the issues that others have.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Make sure the wifi isn't set to disconnect when the phone sleeps. Its in the advanced wifi settings.

Thanks...I've been playing with that. I was hoping for something else that might help.
The only other thing I could suggest is changing the wifi scan interval. Lower the number so it scans more often but its also possible that ics and your router don't agree.

Check your Radio versions--the Tbolt can be pretty temperamental if you aren't on the right combo. Santod has a link to the most recent ones over in the development section. Download, rename to PG05IMG.ZIP, reboot into bootloader and flash.
Also, are you sure you're running the most recent OTA? The earlier ICS builds were pretty janky.

Hey, whatever works; glad you found one that plays nice with your hardware. I'm not sure if it's still true, but in 2011-12 Tbolts had a reputation for being temperamental--it seemed like the radios were all very slightly different, hardware-wise, and things that worked on one handset wouldn't necessarily work on another. I've personally had good results with Santod's most recent pack (the decompressed version on infectedrom), but lots of people still swear by the radio from OTA 605.9.
Second this there were a bunch of tbolt that were defective

Radio issues after kitkat update

I have been thinking that radio performance after the latest kitkat update does not seem to be as good as the previous version.
i seem to notice that the phone takes little longer to switch to 4G/LTE signal compared to the previous version. I have not tested if the phone has problems maintaining the 4G signal, does anyone else notice this or any other sort of radio issues?
About a month ago i was sitting with my friend with his original HTC one and noticed the same behavior and i think that has now replicated to the MAX too
its annoying to find the signal stuck at 3G and the internet speeds are terribly low in 3G when compared to 4G.
anyone ...
I'm on Verizon in the US so I don't have 4.4 KitKat yet, but what you are describing sounds a lot like what I've been experiencing for a couple months. I was hoping that the KitKat update for Verizon would contain newer radios that performed better, but it's interesting that you're also having radio issues with the One max.
Could dropping the phone result in this sort of behavior? That's all I can really think of, as most other users don't seem to have too much trouble with the radios on this device.
phone is just as awesome as it was before the update.
