{WIP} Lag & I\O Fix - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I have been working on fixing the lag & I\O issues. With the stock rom if I was downloading a torrent the device would become unusable. I can know download at full speed and still use the device. I am even using spb shell launcher and it uses way more resources then stock launcher. I will release the fix in dev section once it is fully tested and tweaked.

Not sure if this is relevant to this or not but, my wife cannot play farmville on facebook. I have tried most browsers, and cannot get it to go. It freezes or goes very slowly on downloading the game. This is using the desktop version...

Is this different to the ATP tweaks that Saturnde made in developement section? That allows youbto change I/O controller modules. Or is this some new method you've come up with?

Archos 101 extremely slow?

I just received my Archos 101 yesterday, and after loading a few apps, some music/video on the external sd card, froyo, and LauncherPro, the tablet is extremely slow - to the point where it's not as 'responsive' as it used to be. Has anyone found anything (e.g. lagfix) that makes it a bit faster? I want to love this tablet because of the hell I had to go through with Amazon to get it, but it's really making me pissed off as of lately. Any help would be great - thanks in advance.
install os monitor, sort processes by cpu load and tell us if anything is eating all the CPU
http://www.appbrain.com/app/os-monitor/com.eolwral.osmonitor
I noticed the same thing on my A70. I switched from Launcher Pro to ADW launcher and it's noticably smoother without uninstalling anything else.
Why does os monitor show it is using 40% of my cpu?
Go to Settings / About Device
Register and upgrade your firmware to 2.0.71.
Go To Settings / About Device Power Management /
click on Overdrive
Go To Settings / Repair & formating / calibrate touch screen and accelerometer
do a google searck for gAppsinstaller_v4.apk
keep clicking untill it is installed on your device.
You will now have full google market.
Go to google market - Get Dolphin Browser - make it your default
go to google market - get vplayer beta to play all flash and other videos
recomended google market - get videos
google market - i music
Should be flying now - If running slow - go to desktop - click on system monitor - stop all programs - should be flying again -
tip - firefox is really slow and crashes?? dont install
When using touch screen never push hard - A light quick brushing action works best - or a light quick tap - always light on your fingertips -
tip - do not try to root - not necessary with overdrive setting - full root will come someday. No root is working right now for this firmware.
Good luck
David
i almost forgot
dont forget to go to android market and download and install adobe flash.
Try to erase all Mediafiles and reboot.
If your A101 is faster then you have a File that breaks the mediascanner.
Also if you are still on 2.1 the Mediascanner is running at every boot and scanns every file.
This has been fixed with the last FW.
Alright I did everything you guys have recommended and it is signficantly faster now. I think my biggest problem was that I didn't realize how sensitive the screen is compared to my Captivate. Also, is there any point in setting the cpu to 1000mhz using z4root/setcpu? (haven't been able to get that to work anyways, z4mod just freezes).
I got my Arcos 101 about a week ago and noticed the horrible sluggishness too. I tried doing the firmware update to Froyo and it was still sluggish. I'm now sure exactly what the option was called, but after the Froyo update, I went into settings and did a full format on the device. It reloaded everything from scratch, but I lost all of the 3rd party apps. So I called Archos and they pointed me to ftp://support.archos.com. There is a file called A101 HDD Contents.zip Just download it and unzip the folders. In one of the folders is the Archos customizations (apk files). Just install whatever programs you want and you will be back in business.
One other thing, you will need to set your CPU speed to Performance to get the 1ghz speed. The 2.0.71 build downclocks the cpu to 800mhz.
Oh, and I'm in the same boat with not being able to Root my device. Please z4root creator, fix this.
@dijitalm:
You don't need root for 1Ghz as you can easily set this in the normal settings.
And before you try again, neither z4root nor any other sw that uses rageagainstthecage is working.
The main reason I need root is to get my Tablet to see Ad-Hoc Networks. Specifically I have WIFI Router on my phone and my laptop sees/connects to the phone fine, but the tablet will not see the access point. I know that there are fixes for this that people have come up with but it requires root access.
Oh, and I have a Windows based phone (Touch Pro 2), so I can't get the bluetooth tethering option to work either.

Hmm. Others have gotten WM phones to work with BT tethering.
When I try to associate the Archos 101, they attempt to pair and then my phone says "it (the tablet) doesn't have any services that we are interested in". That statement on my phone is so enfuriating because I'll be the judge of what services I'm interested in having my phone use. My old XV6800 (Titan) did bluetooth tethering like a charm, and if it were still alive, I'd even consider going back to it.
Yup I'd be happy non rooting it if I could just get tethering to work.

I tried what is on post #5 here and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10022941&postcount=4
so far, the combination of both things have made a big difference in the performance of my A70. It's a pretty smooth experience now.
ADW and Launcher Pro
I'm glad my help with Launcher Pro helped you. I installed the new ADW Launcher EX yesterday. I will have to say, It is faster depending on the settings. I used the "Fast" [reset profile. Right off the bat it was flying faster than launcher pro. I would suggest that launcher now that it has been revamped.

Any Turbo 10.1 Tab Tips?

I've been running Overcome 2.3.1 for awhile now and I'm interested in possibly overclocking and/or using the V6 memory hack but I have reservations. I'm wondering what you guys are using that's stable to accomplish speeding up your tabs. I read about certain problems with Flash while using Pershoot's kernel and I haven't really found any substantial info on overclocking. I own SetCPU and have done it before but not sure what kernels support it on the 10.1. Fired it up on my Tab and it kept crashing and while changing the governor worked not much else was.
I'm not against changing ROMs to accomplish this but I'm not interested in buggy crap aka non-working camera/gps/usb charging.
Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.
update- installing pershoot's last hc kernel and then I'm going to try v6 - - any advice on what hacks boost performance the most besides OCing?
V6 isn't a hack. Its a script that modifys memory settings to increase settings. However, just run through the initial startup of V6 and it should automatically calculate the settings your tablet needs. Once that is done, you should also install the nitro lag nullifer (option 11 possibly) from the V6 script.
Also, task's v14 ROM is very stable and has few or no bugs and includes pershoots kernel. My wife uses it and she doesn't have any problems.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at Task. V6 is next on my list.
**update** I see that V6 is in Task so extra thanks. Trying Task Full now.
I'm running Pershoot's latest hc kernel (january) and so far it's nice. Only issue is when forcing OC to 1400 all the time. If I do that the system's camera won't load at all. 3rd party cameras work fine though.
Can't believe how fast and stable it is at 1400. Any lag I had before is gone. I was beginning to think many apps had memory leaks since I still had occasional lags using Overcome but OCing has made that disappear. Kinda shocked battery life isn't impacted at all either. Samsung really dropped the ball with the software on this tablet.
Not seeing the bump in HD mkv video decoding using BSPlayer that I expected.
Just a heads up- hack means modify, among other things. For some it implies some type of negative action but many people don't view it that way anymore.
No problem. And when I think hack, I usually think about something that isn't executed very cleanly and half-ass work-arounds are necessary for it to work (e.g. hack-job)

Yeah like the ROM Samsung released for our tabs. Then there's the half-assed professional meaning. Example - Those hack devs at Samsung.
So far I'm liking Task 14. Spent most of my time trying to defeat the media scanner bug. Tomorrow I'm gonna get on V6 unless the script is already operating.

CM9 support thread with stock kernel

This is a thread to discuss problems one may be having with cm9.
Enjoy!
Sent from my CM9 Nook Tablet using Tapatalk
I tested CM9 with stock kernel for about a month all the essential features worked fine the only problems I found were that the vpn conections don't work and there's always a lag in apps when you scroll up/down but that's releated to ducati and hardware acceleration also hd videos were choppy. Otherwise the games I played runned with an acceptable quality (dragon rush, duddle jump, draw something, crazy racers,...I know those games don't need a good video chip).
Sent from the toilet using xda premium app
I have used it from time to time. From my perspective there are a few features missing that I use frequently.
Getting your location via wifi in apps like maps, earth, etc.
In some apps and widgets you can't get to the settings menu. These include the genie news & weather widget so you can't add additional tabs or remove the stock tabs you don't want.
Rainey Days app won't run.
All this appears to work in the ICS kernal, but NT won't stay going long enough to be useful.
Thanks,
There's a cm9 support thread.

Stable ROM suggestions

Can anyone recommend a good stable deodexed ROM with init.d support? I want something I can install and not have to compromise functionality with. I am not looking for a science fair project. My intention is to run supercharger V6 and apply the other services tweaks. I am beyond sick of the stock android limitations. God forbid I run half a dozen Google play store updates at a time, it makes the entire tablet run like complete **** until it's done (harsh words for harsh performance).
I am throwing in the towel on keeping the stock ROM, though I saw many improvements with the most recent update (random reboots are a thing of the past) but I want to get rid of a few additional minor annoyances and zeppelinrox's scripts will likely fix that for me.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
You can add support for init.d by installing Pimp My ROM and getting it to enable it on any rooted ROM.
All of the ones I've tried have worked great, try some and find which one works the best for you.
Go for RasBeanJelly ROM and the latest Trinity Kernel. You won't be disappointed.
The ROM itself is too stable and too fast. With addition of some tweaks such as lock screen and Nav bar shortcuts.
For Trinity Kernel, well, you can never go wrong with Trinity

[How to?] remove bravia engine from stock rom: Terrible SwiqiSettingsService

Hello,
I already put this in "Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" but I think it's a dev subject.
So:
I'm trying to make a slim ROM starting from stock 207, without BE, sound enhancement, etc.
Using Elixir (Wakelock does not shows everything) I discovered that this apk uses a lot of CPU, it's the champion.
Then I tried to disable all bravia stuff in settings and also in build.prop (swiqi2.enable=false): no effect.
I also deleted /etc/be*. But this process continues to eat cpu all the time, when you watch a video or simply scrowls a list. It seems that it filters the whole video flow.
Last step: freezing SwiqiSettingsService. In this case, video playing becomes very very laggy (totaly unusable, using stock player or Mx gives the same result), BUT the phone becomes so much responsive.
If someone knows how to totaly wipe bravia/swiqi stuff from the phone (or want to investigate that) ... it will be a great improvment for those who don't care about this kind of "enhancement".
Thanks.
Some news:
Uninstalling GoogleBackupTransport.apk, you can also uninstall SwiqiSettingsService.apk with no lags in video playing (also need to disable the things in 1st post).
I have no idea for an explication ... but it works fine until now ...
This is more for the Cross-Development section

Until now I didn't see any side effect, but it can make time to discover one...
I'll post my system/app list later.
An other problem is that there are dozens of posts on xda talking about system apps safe to remove with bad informations in them.
I never found a clean list wich explains each funcionalities of each system app, and more important their dependencies between them.
You can make a test using "system app remover" for example: turn off all enhancement in settings, then remove GoogleBackupTransport and Swiqi. If you have troubles you can put them back using SystemAppRemover.
Next step for me is to evaluate if Stamina is important in the way I use my phone: basically I like to use functionalities manually. If I want to sync I enable sync, if I want to use data connection I turn it on and then off, etc...
Stamina is certainly usefull for who let the phone connected all the time, but in this case I don't know.
this is what i am looking for long time. some one clarify it more?????
@sambastrakan
you made this thread when super vivid mode from z3 was not introduced yet
I had tried freezing or uninstalling swiqisettingsservice and video playback will lag :crying: until BE libs are completely removed via android tweaker 2
but since super vivid mode is ported, freezing or uninstalling swiqisettingsservice still give me enchanted color and without lag
i've tried both in movies & mx player
btw, did you notice gaming performance & ram improvement after removing such features?

Thanks for your advice. But I'm running CM11 for a few months now: no more problem!
From what I remember I had about 480Mb free RAM with my "slim" 207 fw. But I remember too that in an other attempt (clean install then uninstalling apps) the lags were back ... So GoogleBackupTransport was not the guilty .... Actually I don't know how and why I had no lags in a previous slim rom version (without swiqi). Total mystery ! And no more mystery with CM11 from MrSteve555.
Draw lines settings.apk because not much point getting the apk and remove the lines from build.prop if there still lines the wild in their configurations.
Thank you :good:
