A co-worker just got a t-mobile galaxy s 2 and wants me to possibly root it and install a ics rom. Can anybody get a me a general idea as to which was is stable with all features working? He does use 4g. Thanks
Do him a favour and don't flash anything from these forums on it.

No ****. Thanks. Moderator please delete....
All ICS ROMs are still in BETA stage so are likely to cause problems.Read all the ICS threads first before flashing as there is no officiall ICS release ROM to use to make a stable custom ROM.
Symbian.
In other words, stay away from current ICS builds.

All the ROMs in the dev section except a couple are touchwiz ROMs. Please read the OP of the threads

Which one do you recommend that is close to the stock Rom, thanks.
Your question is confusing, and, like most first-time posters, doesn't include enough information.
What do you want this ROM to do? Do you want a "vanilla" ROM (without TW)? Do you want the stock ROM (stock ROMs for the GT10 all have touchwiz)? If you just want a stock ROM, why not just go with the one thats on your GT10 now? If you want a custom ROM, you need to say what you want it to do to get recommendations.
Bah, just look in the development section. There's only 4 or 5 ROMs there. If you don't know what you want then just pick one and try it.

Though it cannot be said close to the stock ROM, I suggest Galaxy Task ROM
Galaxy Task is the only one not themed so it is more like stock Touchwiz than other ROMs.
There are only 2 ROMs in the Dev section that are not Touchwiz and they indicate that. Alterbridge, Task650, and DutchDanny all have created awesome Touchwiz ROMs based on the current release of Honeycomb 3.2. Out of the 3, Task does not theme his anymore and is actually done by bOOsted in a separate thread. Dutchdanny released KMN stock without theme that you can check out.
Both are great and really it is up to you which to keep after flashing them.
Is there a reason it HAS to be stock? Just curious...

There are no stable ICS releases for SGS2. You can find two ICS roms, one leaked from Sammy and another is CM9.
Though alpha CM9 is pretty stable .. check out the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410400
Learn how to restore before flashing an unfinished Beta rom on my phone would be my first step .

LOTS more reading!
CM9 is good, but it sounds like it's high risk for you at the moment - it's not all plain sailing if and when you get there.
Why not wait a few weeks for a more stable version.
I would say your better off waiting mate, maybe flash vertumus's ics theme until a stable version is out.

Hello,
3 weeks ago,I got a GT-19100G galaxy s2.Pretty happy with it,everything is great except for TW of course So I need advice at whether I should get the official ICS update when its released in march(also thinking about giving the LB leak a try) which will use TW as far as I know or root my phone and flash the CM9 and get andy's costum ICS.Andy's ICS looks pretty nice but I don't wanna root my phone specially that I never rooted any device before(my previous device was nokia n81 8gb LOL).Or maybe I should just wait for the official release and get some sort of ICS themes or something.I'm currently running Android 2.3.6 baseband I9100GDZKK1 and Kernel 2.6.35.7.So what ya think ?
root..flash CM9..after ICS offiaclly released..flash back stock rom and get OTA..easy right??
Would be easy if I knew what the hell is OTA
Edit:Oh,I googled it.Its over the air.Well, why would I root it if I will flash back stock ROM again in 2 weeks ?
Personal view would be wait for ICS then wait for the modders to mod the official release .

I was thinking about that too...I think I'll just do that But just to be on the safe side,is it completely safe to root my phone and install CM9 ? Bcuz my phone is new and if anything happened to it,I'll kill myself.
FYI, the i9100G is not the i9100, therefore ICS leaks and CM9 will not work in your phone. If you do flash CM9 or one of the leaks your phone will be damaged. The i9100G is sort of crippled ROM developement wise from the start due to it's lack of Exynos in favour of some old TI-OMAP. Your only choice is to wait for Samsung to released ICS for your phone.

Lol,how is that possible ? O-o Does that mean I can't install any custom roms or its just the cm9 ?

IIRC, there is only one ROM available for your phone and that is SuperROM (Android 2.0.3). All other ROMs will brick your phone.
That's right. You can only install custom roms that are specifically written for the I9100G. And there aren't many of them. Someone on here said a couple of weeks ago that there are two (don't quote me on it tho).
If you flash a rom meant for any other SGS2 variant, as Xethor said, you run the risk of bricking your phone.

Damn...I had to get it since its the only S2 version available here. Why samsung ? Why would u make different versions of galaxy s2 ??!!! :/ Well I guess I'll just have to depend on launchers.I got Go launcher EX,launcher7 and ADWLauncher. If you by any chance know a nice ICS theme, can u give me the market link ?
At first I also didn't knew the difference between I9100 and I9100G. I bricked my phone by flashing one of the I9100 ROM. Then I figured it out, unbricked it again. And now i'm running SuperROM with ICS Domination v2.0 theme.
I9100G sucks big time, both in hardware and software.
Only four ROM's are available for 'G' variant:
SuperROM
Juffo ROM
Galaxyrom rc4
Darky ROM
Can't believe it took 6 replies for someone to point out to the OP that the G version is different to the International model. Lucky he didn't brick it. So glad the T version is the same except it requires its own modem.

Hello guys,
It's been a month since I'm using Official ICS ROM of Taiwan/Singapore, I9100ZSLPG TGY...
It gives me a good battery time from different ICS ROMs like Britain's and Polish's...
Well my question is which ICS ROM are you using and how stable and great it is? Also please tell me about the battery timing which is important as I'm looking to flash again to a different Official ICS ROM...
And please no suggestions about Custom ROMs.
Thank You.
if you are happy nothing to update really. just stick to it.
once 4.04 comes out flash that.
if your still icthing to change try new LPD ROM, but as iv said you wont feel any difference

I think you should try the XWLPD firmware posted on Intratech's thread. People have been saying that its battery life is the best so far. I have only just flashed it a few hours ago so I can't comment much but here is a detailed result done by a reliable XDA member.

Can the XWLPD firmware be used by someone in North America (Canada specifically)?

Is your model GT-I9100? Shouldn't be a problem. I have been using the Netherlands ROMs in Australia..
Or if you use a GT-I9100M then there's this thread for you.
GTI9100M and GTI9100 are the same phones, just the M is carrier branded to a few Canadian providers.
Does XWLPD provide stock ICS experience/look? The Canadian official ICS ROM we have looks too much like Gingerbread

If you want the ICS experience try either Nova or Apex Launchers. All Samsung ICS ROMs will look the same, mainly with the TouchWiz which I believe Samsung did not want to deviate much as it sets them apart from other manufacturers' skins.
We get a lot of these threads, several per day actually..
Please just try the ROMs and then figure out which one you like.

Hey all. Quick question for ya. I am going to flash one of the JB roms to my wifes galaxy tab 10.1 this weekend.
She is currently running task's honeycomb rom. She has been running that for a good 5 months now.
What order do I proceed to get her to JB??
Must I flash an ICS rom first then flash a JB rom??
Do I need to flash a JB bootloader or an ICS bootloader?? If so where can I find them. Been searching the forum with no luck.
Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Specifically the orders or anything I have overlooked.
Thanks in advance,
Nycorduroy
not mandatory to have an ICS step, you can directly go to JB.
you just need CWM, you probably already have it if you are running task's rom.
backup your app (titanium is a great tool in my opinion)
copy rom file to your tab
make a full wipe (+cache +davilk)
flash rom
reboot and enjoy

This does not belong in the Development section. All questions need to be put into the Q&A section. Please do that from now on.
With that said, I am not sure about the bootloader but you probably need to update your version of CWM recovery, and you can find out about that as well as the bootloader stuff in the threads for CM10/JB. Pershoot's threads are probably a good place to look as well.
Edit: well someone got to it first, follow their instructions as well

Yes, Pershoot stated in Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10 Preview thread that you need to have a US HC or ICS bootloader in order not to have charging SODs. If you have a US bootloader you should be fine if not flash a stock US HC or ICS rom via Odin before you flash CM10 (you'll loose all data on the tab). Alternatively there are flashable US bootloaders but I've never tried one. I can't put the links because search feature is is temporarily unavailable.
Finally, You could still get charging sods and some wifi problems etc. even if you came from a US bootloader. Pershoot says a small minority will face these issues no matter what. A hard reset fixes these issues temporarily. If you could wait a little bit more a new cm10 is on the way with 3.1 kernel which is supposed to work fully functional. But still, I think current CM10 is the best rom available right now.
